Thank you for your replies. I actually am planning on getting a second opinion at Fairfax Northern Virginia Hema/Onc. The doctors there also come to Lake Manassas Cancer Center which is right around the corner from me. It just seems as if Georgetown is so reputable and i don't want to compromise my care by going somewhere else. But it's good to know that others are using other drs and facilities in the area.

    Mikita,

I had a mastectomy and an expander implanted at Hopkins in November.  Please let me know if you have any questions or want more information.  Did they tell you about local lodging?  I stayed at the McElderry house and it was very close and nice.

Wow...has it been that long since I've been on this thread? I need to add it to my favorites so I don't neglect it...

Sorry for the false alarm Nancy, I was able to log onto my old screen name and find it so I could bump it...but I couldn't post from there. Here's hoping I haven't gone past my allotted "5" per day with my new name...hope you are all well and we can work out a get together when it gets warmer...

Not a lot to catch up on other than the new faces...welcome Beth, reeney and one other  I think? Sorry, it's late and I have to uproot everone on the bed to go p so I kind of lost a name I think...

Sorry there was confusion and none of you could have joined us at the Olive Garden...I haven't been there in years...they have so MUCH to choose from now...and it was sooo nice to enjoy a glass (or two...) of wine.

Hi Dawn...No...no food court pizza for me babe...I'd rather spend a bit more and get something I enjoy than eat just to eat. That food court is just bizzarre for such an upscale mall??!!

I hope everyone is well and surgeries and appointments have gone smooth.

Hopefully we can do a meet up again soon...It's about my only social outlet these days :)

Lefty - I live in Ashburn (about 20-30 minutes from Fairfax) and I lived in Pittsburgh twice!  I loved it.  Occasionally I still visit there.

Flyrzfan - is that a puppy?  Is it a boxer or mastiff?  Absolutely adorable!

Monique - thanks for starting this last year.

I would be up for Olive Garden.

    Hello to all:

Hey Dani ~ so good to see you post! How have you been?

Just checking in to see how everyone is making out these days...I'm still doing the weekly Herceptin treatments but I do seem to be doing better on the weekly infusions than I did on the every 3 week ones.

Hope the snow hasn't been to bad for you guys...my puppies and I enjoyed running around in it (ok, they ran I mostly watched).

    Take care all...

I was at the Scottish parade in December, too weird!

I go to see the parades and an added bonus is my cute cop is working the parades!  This time I will only be bringing one son.  Maybe we should all meet up for coffee right after parade?

lefty- We could meet at the Starbucks at the bottom of King street?  It is on the left if you are walking towards the water front.

Let me know and let's see how many ladies can make it!

Hubby reports in at 11am so I figure the parade must be starting at 12pm, anyone know for sure?

navygirl- wow good to hear from you too1  Oh my I will be so happy for you when you have finished all your treatments!

I am with you loved the snow, I went with my friends 7yr old sledding, my teens did not want to go with Mom.  They went with their friends instead.  Some days I miss the days when they liked to hang with Mom and Dad!

Let see how many can go to Alexandria on Saturday for the big parade.  Warning parking will be difficult.

The metro to King Street then the free shuttle bus down King Street is the best way to do Alexandria -- MY opinion.  OR get a bus ticket when you get on the metro (machine near the elevator),  any bus that goes down King Street (there are many) will be 35 cents.   IF you get a transfer, you can ride back up King Street free, if within 4 hours.  MUCH cheaper and less hassle than parking.  Don't forget most of the streets will be closed for the parade...

The  Starbucks on King Street -  near the river at Union Street.   It has a few tables on the sidewalk.

Should we think of somewhere with more room.  In case quite a few ladies show up?

I am parking at Police kennels.  It is a hike, but then I could use the calorie burn!  LOL!

I plan to go after I organize my taxes.  Want to meet at Madelines across from the town square?  not sure what I am going to wear, as laundry is sloshing around as I type. it will be casual - jeans and who knows what else.

Yes I know Madelines.  I will be leaving Stafford about 11am parking at police kennels and walking downtown.  I will let you know what I am wearing, i will pm you my cell number.Do you know the parade route?

    Cop husband dosen't know!

He said he would call me after he gets to his assignment and let me know!  Parade does start at 12:30 so we probably should meet up after or maybe during if it is close to route.

Danix5 - sorry for the late response. I got my second opinion with Dr. Maran at Lake Manassas Cancer Center in Gainesville. Really like it there - not just the dr but the nurses seem really nice too and on top of things. I am scheduled to start chemo at the end of the month. I think the Lake Manassas facility is much more comfortable, laid-back, and has a more social atmosphere than the very clinical environment i saw at the hospital in Baltimore where i considered treatment.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Let me know if you'd like someone to be with you at the center in Gainesville.  I live south of their right on route 29.

That's very sweet of you - i truly appreciate the offer. I have a feeling though that i'm gonna have people fighting to be there with me at chemo sessions. I only have 4 so i'm gonna have to split them up somehow. Not that i don't appreciate the help and the concern and the love of my family, but just am feeling overwhelmed sometimes.

Just found this thread. I live in Leesburg. Bilateral with immediate DIEP in September 2005 at Mercy in Baltimore (Friedman and Chang). Chemo plus Herceptin, finished in spring 2007 in Fairfax (Broome). I am now followed by Dr. Wilkenson in Fairfax. Hope all of you are doing well.
