Positive Obama thread

Little-G, I promised myself I would not come back here. However, I want you to know that the republican (REPUG) has NEVER turned away a person who is trying t push Obama OR our buttons. I really can't remember if you ever posted on the repub thread, but if you have we post back to you. Perhaps the best thing to do is ignore all the Obama supporters who post on our thread.
I dont care what Palin did as a beauty queen. And oh, BTW, did you hear that the FAR left is giving Alan WHATEVER-HIS-NAME is a hard time for doing the SNL skit with Palin. I hope this proves to him that some of those people are nuts. Oh, and he was going to move out of this country if Bush was re-elected. I see he's still doing well here.

Give me some evidence...EVIDENCE...RED MEAT...why you are voting for Obama. I don't see anything here except for empty posts and hateful ones at that. I'm not a troll. I am a member of this board. I suppose you, AMY, want to suppress freedom of speech. Gee, what a great country we'll have.
Shall I post what Biden said about the first six months of Obama's presidency. Do you want some facts about what happened to Freddie and Fannie and why they continuted down that avenue which distroyed our country? Do you want some facts about why high risk poor minorities were given loans when they couldn't afford them and the dems had even admitted that there would be some foreclosures? Do you need some facts about how Obama was deep? deep into ACORN? Are facts what you call "negative, hateful or racist?"
When my dh and I moved here to N.C. we lived with is brother and sil. After finding jobs we rented a furnished small one bedroom trailor which we were tickled with. Almost every penny I made went into savings..no buy closes..no buying jewelry,..not buying shoes. Then we had enough for a downpayment on a small home that we financed for 20 years. We eventually moved out of there because we had three children.
And guess what. We may be moving out of this house because in a very few months we won't be able to afford the mortgage. Why? Because we spent so much money on our children's education. healthcare, dentist, braces, etc. We would refinance to keep our heads above water. This house WOULD HAVE BEEN payed for by now. So, am I supposed to think the government should bail us out?
Do I want to lose my home. Hell, no. We raised our children here. We have fond memories and now my granchildren comes to Mimi's and Pawpaws house and loves it. We'll be stuck in a small apartment.
But, I don't want rich people's money. We have never been rich. And the little money that we had is almost gone.
So, there, even repubs have problems, but we are not blaming Bush for all of it. He also tired to warn about Freddie and Fannie in 2003. Do you need the facts on that too?

Shirley,
I am one of the ones who usually ignores your posts. But this latest one caught my eye, as you seem absolutely livid about being ignored.
I can't speak for anyone else, but when I read your screeds with all the ranting in bold type and snide words, I cringe. Why would anyone want to debate with someone so angry and close-minded? It really isn't civil.
I work with and am friends with many republicans (in my industry, Dems are the minority by far) and we can have discussions about our differences without going off the deep end. And we respect one another's view points. We know that trying to defend our party in all cases and attack the other party in all cases is irrational, so we don't go down that path. It's a much healthier discourse than where you are headed...

Donna, I am very sorry that you feel you have to ignore my posts. I have always had respect for you. I remember why hell you've been through and also losing your brother. I felt deeply saddened by that incident, and terrible for all the months you had to endure the physical pain you went through. I also remember you losing your furbaby. I cried as most of us do when one of us lose furbabies. I am not a monster.
Yes, I was infuriated when I saw the "Penthouse" post. At first I saw IBC's post and I knew it did not sound like him. So, I further investigated WHY he would post that. That was before the "I've reported you" post and before, I'm sorry and I'll delete it.. from IBC.
Also, I believe it was you who told me I raised smart girls..because two of them were voting for Obama. You were being sarcastic, but that's okay. My daughters were taught to think for themselves. My oldest and I just had that conversation a couple of nights ago. And thank God, they do think for themselves, but also ask my opinions about things. And I am a very lucky woman (Mom) to have three daughters who I KNOW love me. Enough bragging.
Please read again and tell you, objectively, if you really think this is/was an appropriate thing to say no matter how much you dislike this woman or how much you disagree with her politics. Even my oldes dd doesn't think all this mess is appropriate...the porn movie. I will tell her about what Little-G said and see if she thinks that's appropriate. I know she won't.
Yeah, I get angry when I read such nonsens. I cannot remember everything we've posted on the repub thread, but I wish someone would tell me where we've said demeaning things about MO ...I mean demeaning..not controversial. And the same thing about BO..demeaning.
Thanks for not ignoring that ONE post.
Shirley
When she dosn't win VP, we'll be seeing her in an issue of Penthouse or Playboy. The troll would have been better suited to pick her as court jester. And picked someone he really believed in for a running mate. Again, what a joke that campaign is. And for them to start spewing this "socialist" stuff.

Shirley -
I know you have a good heart and have always been a big supporter of sisters in this journey, myself included. I just think that emotion and frustration are making it difficult for many of us to keep things on a civil level.
As for the Palin/Playboy comment - I can't say that I am offended, but I do see how her supporters could find it offensive. What is "offensive" is not a black and white issue. When I have been offended in the past, I voiced my opinion to the particular poster and to the mods. Since I have seen people get completely freaked out when their post is deleted by the mods without knowing who reported it, I have decided that whenever I do report a post, I will own up to it and publicly declare why I did.
But I am definitely not the arbiter of what is offensive or not. And God knows that my glass house is not "stone-proof", so I try not to be too judgmental. I try to ignore the stuff on both sides when it starts to sound inflammatory or derogatory. If I were to speak up everytime I thought someone crossed the line, I would be opening up myself for the same scrutiny - and I would fail, miserably, to pass the test of always keeping things civil.
That's my long-winded way of saying that I hope we can all be friends after this election is over - and words we write on these boards today can either keep that possibility open, or close it completely, depending on how personal we get with one another.
As for ignoring your posts, I always skim them, if nothing else, to make sure that you haven't converted your DD's to the "dark side"
(JUST KIDDING!!)
Peace.
-
Donna, two of my girls as far as I know have not been converted. One will be coming home and registering and voting the same day. However, her residence will be in Denveer because they will be moving all their stuff there. But, I know she will not register twice..LOL I'm not sure about the voting and registering the same day here in N.C. I'll have to look that up for her.
Geez, I looked back over my previous post and boy did I make a boat load of mistakes.
Okay, I'm done here. And I'm sure most of us will be able to be civil once this nightmare is over.
Shirley

Just for the record, my husband and two sons would vote for Barack Obama if they could.
-
little G the only thing I have to say is why do you spew hate and venom. Some of your post has been the ugliest I have ever read. Please have some respect for other human beings. What has Palin ever done to you ----NOTHING
-
is it a full moon? All the trolls are out tonight? A big ole temper tantrum, because they're losing the political election. My goodness, they sure live up to their reputation. We won't let their ugly words ruin our place here. Obama has more grace and class in his little finger than the repugs.
djd- I ignore shirely's posts too. Too much negative energy from her.
Spar, do you want to know what Palin has done to me? It's not what she's done to me it's what she's done to this country by being so grossly unqualified, yet accepting the nomination. She has become a token woman for the republican/rove machine. Palin is either too stupid or too arrogant to realize she's in way over her head, you betcha. She was chosen for her vagina and she's done nothing to show that she's more than that. She hasn't shown intelligence, been articulate or even shown a knowledge of the office of the vice president. She hasn't shown an ability to think on her feet. She is very good at throwing zingers. She's frightening and so are the people who buy into her hate filled speeches. So, no, she hasn't done anything to me personally, but I love this country too much to think of her as VP or even president should she need to step in. It would be a disaster for the not just the USA, but also the world because Palin and McCain have shown no inclination that they are willing to work as partners in a world community. We've had that for eight years and it doesn't work. We need to build back our reputation in the world so that we can form international coalitions to work against danger in the world. Might doesn't make right.
-
Well I guess you can consider me another troll. I'm a liberal by nature, but I have to say, that some of the comments in this thread, by O4P and LittleG are reprehensible. JMO.
-
I'm a Democrat and I don't hate the military. Far from it. In my world, vets wouldn't have to fight for benefits, be drummed out of the service because of PTSD, the child of a soldier/sailor/Marine who died in the line of duty would get full medical, dental, and a free college education all for as long as they need it.
I won't vote for McCain because of what he believes, because of how he speaks, because of the slimy smirk he gets when someone says something that he doesn't agree with, because of the disrespect he's shown thousands of my coworkers, because of the lobbyists he employs, because the "retired generals and admirals" he says support him are paid lobbyists for a company which competes with mine, because he flew an Airbus airplane as his campaign plane, because he mistreated his first wife, because he used the 'c' word in referring to his wife.
I say damn you to anyone who believes Democrats hate America, the Military, the flag, mom, apple pie, whatever. You don't know me, my background, my life. I say the pledge of Allegiance, I sing the National Anthem AND I even know the words.
It's a sad day when someone loses a job, a home, a life. Whether they live in a small town, or, like most of us in this great country, an urban area, they're still as American as you or I.
Words sting, they bite, they last. Think about it.
-
I see we are ahead by a wide margin in the polls tonight!!! No surprise, but it is good news! I also seen an interview with the side kick. A 3rd grader asked her what the position of the VP would be. She got the answer wrong. She dosen't even know the job qualifications for something as important as VP, for a postion she is running for. I think she makes my case for herself, over and over again. Polls also show her as being a huge drag on the Republican party. Again, no surprise there either.

Difference of opinion amy, I think Palin has shown great strength, courage, and humor and I betcha she will be a great vice president. I am not a troll, I am a breast cancer survivor and do not appreciate being called names. Where did your class go? I love my country too and my God and my military and I am still entitled to my opinion and it is Palin will be good for this country

I had trouble following the narrative of the video. It seemed to be jumping back and forth without explanation, but I got the gist of it. If you're interested in getting another point of view, Shirley, you could read this, which is a written response to the video:

It seems to me that the financial crisis was a perfect storm of many forces. We all lost money, we're all angry.
-
It;s hard to tell what went on - actually confusing. If I'm not mistaken, the title of this thread is "Positive Obama Thread." If you don't like Obama, then why come here and say negative things? It's close to the election. I believe we all feel a passion for the person we are choosing. I just happen to disagree that McCain is the best choice.
As a breast cancer survivor, I do have issues with a man coming here and try to bully women who happen to disagree with his political beliefs. So really IBC spouse, why even come over here and say nasty things? Yes it is commendable that you are taking care of your wife, but that doesn't excuse you for making awful statement to and about African Americans and other women who are here because they do have breast cancer. Your motives are unclear. At least to me.
I heard on the news yesterday that Palin has become McCains biggest crutch. Watched a tape of her talking to a group of students and she doesn't even understand our Constitution for Petes sake. There is no doubt as it is being voiced by both sides that Palin was a mistake.
So lets see - we have been called Un American, socialist, dictators, terrorists, and communists? Instead of talking about the issues?
I don't come here to prove why I like Obama, or dislike McCain. Having very little computer time all those endless posts proving one's point? I don't even look at them. Don't have the time, nor do I care.
I don't come here to change someones mind or prove someone is right or wrong. I come here because I enjoy talking about why I like Obama. The latest polls are favoring Obama with the largest numbers yet. That made me smile yesterday when I heard it.
I went to the other thread and didn't make any negative statements. Was just trying to talk and was not treated very nicely. Freedom of speech is important to all of us. But we must remember this is a breast cancer support board and there are just some things that should not be said. Can you imagine what a new person thinks when they come to this site for support and read some of the nasty things being said. I certainly don't come here to be bullied by a male caregiver.
Im sad about Obama's grandmother. Was hoping she would have the opportunity to see the grandson she raised become the next President of the United States.
Edited to say - I already late for my shower. I type quickly and have not checked my spelling or sentence structure. For those who are critical of that - you have my deepest apologies
Nicki.
Frogs have it easy. They can eat what bugs them.
-
Well said, Nicki.
So Palin spent $150,000 on clothes for herself and her family since her nomination. I wonder how republican donors feel about that. This is in line with her taking money for living at home as a per diem while governor. Different rules for seem to apply to Palin than she expects from others.
little g- amazing that Palin still doesn't know what the VP job is and she's spreading that misinformation on to 3rd graders. She's no better than a poorly written sit com character played for laughs and slap stick.
A republican on Morning Joe this morning said Palin was chosen for the game of American Idol vice president and the game changed to Jeopardy and she can't compete.
Barack is live via satellite on the Ellen Show today.
-
Obama is holding a rally in our town this afternoon. Yay!
-
Anna: I'm so jealous! Don't get many rallies here in Illinois.

Laura,
I just saw your post, and my dear sil sent me one JUST LIKE it, only it was OBAMA on the sign that the dog was peeing on. ONLY, I have the grace and the taste to NOT post it here.

I am a Registered Independent, one of those "swing voters" that both political parties are so interested in! I also have a daughter that attends college, and is a political science major. So, we have alot of interesting discussions - both pro and con on each party.
The major concern I have with John McCain is his policy on healthcare. My health insurance premium costs $12,000 per year. I also live in a high cost area so the money that McCain says will cover my family's premium ($5000) wouldn't go far in the Boston area.
The economy has also hit me very hard ...my husband sells houses (or used to). Now, we can all go back and forth about WHO is responsible, but it is both political parties. From Clinton to Phill Gramm, they all had a hand in this disaster. I really believe the regular American citizen is not represented in Washington. We have yet to get an apology from any elected offiical (the former SEC chairman did take responsibility) on the economic mess the country is now in. Only 6% of mortgages are sub-prime - there are alot of other factors that contributed to this mess.
The one solution is to eliminate lobbying and to institute term limits for Congress. Of couse, that will never happen. But most importantly, we need leadership and the American people want a leader they can believe in.
My kids future depends on the country turning around. The regular American family is hurting. My husband works 3 jobs, my daughter is attending a prestigious private college on mostly merit scholarship (thankfully), and I have to feed a 15 year old son - anyone who has a teenage son knows how much their food bill has gone up over the past year. And then there is the oil heat that the New England area is dependent on. I had a fill-up last week, and it was only $3.13 a gallon. So, that's approximately $540 ... that will last a few months.
I will be voting for Obama as I think he will help my family the most. Any candidate who has had to earn his way through life, not by the family they were born into, is someone who I can respect.
-
Murphmort, thanks for your post and congratulations to your daughter for her merit scholarship and acceptance into college! Very impressive. I hope my daughter does as well.
Rachel Maddow ran a little clip of this Zydeco song for Obama. I love it! I proudly admit to being a member of the Obama "Kumbaya" club (except this one's got a good foot-tapping beat).
-
For everyone offended by what the Obama supporters have said here, I suggest you go back and read the title. You know it is going to be about Obama, whay we will vote for him and why we think McCain and Palin are so awfully wrong for this country. If you don't like what is said here, I have a suggestion for you: DON'T FREAKING READ IT! It's like walking into a bakery and being upset that they have (gasp and swoon!) cupcakes. Cut me a damn break...
I used to read the Repulbican thread and, yeah, I did comment on occassion, but I realized it was futile. Now I don't even bother reading it. Could you please show us the same courtesy? Or, if you absolutely MUST read it, keep your comments to yourself, gheesh!
-
Shirley,
I'm late in answering your question, but why do I have to explain why I'm voting for Obama. I don't believe any of us have asked why you and others are voting for McCain. Do you think we're going to change our minds because you are jumping up and down mad? And why a re you gracing us with all this crap?

Good morning Obama ladies..........first of all I would never come to this thread and bash Obama............yes it may be true that I don't agree with his political policies concerning our country but that is my opinion..........but I do have a few questions that I hope that you ladies may be able to help me with..........first of all why does Sarah Palin "scare" the left so much?........she is just a Conservative woman in our National Political scene.........there are several..........I just don't understand how the left response to her is so vial..........Sandra Bernhard states that if she comes to New York she will be gang raped by New York blacks.........not only is this a horrible statement it is raciest at its core.........Madonna gets on stage and states that she is going to "kick her ass"..........PDiddy is "scared" of her..........really..............why?...........I could understand PDiddy being scared of her beliefs or maybe better not agreeing for what she stands for...........and what because she was in a Beauty Pageant then that makes her a candidate to pose for Playboy?.........a terrible sexist statement..............and Amy yes she has a "vagina"...........and so what?........I'm sure she also has her breasts and a brain and all her other body parts............and so what if McCain picked her because she is a woman.....what is so horrible about that?..........I don't agree with that concept........he picked her because she is conservative and he needed to reach out to the Ronald Reagan Conservatives in our party because McCain is not a conservative but none the less you certainly have the right to believe whatever you want.........I mean didn't Obama pick Biden because of his foreign policy experience...........its politics...............so why are you ladies so hateful about Sarah Palin?........I mean the McCain/Palin ticket is not going to win anyway so what does it matter?..........in my opinion it just makes the left look really small and not what they portray that they are.........tolerate........open minded.......acceptance.........for all people..........Shokk
-
shokk - I can only speak for myself, but personally I am not "scared" of Sarah Palin. What's scary to me is that McCain is so desperate to win (screw "country first"!) that he has luanched one hail mary pass after another. The first one was his selection of SP as a running mate. She clearly doesn't even know what the VP's job is, and her limited knowledge of world affairs his laughable.
You are right - they won't win, and SP will become the answer to a future trivia question (i.e,, "what vice-presidential candidate claimed foreign policy experience because Russia could be seen from Alaska?") But hey, at least she got a heck of a wardrobe to take home after the election is done.
-
Felicia - well said!
-
LAphoenix - thanks for the pat on the back, but I truly put it all on my daughter. This is her third year of college and she did work on Hillary's campaign last winter. She is very excited about the election, and is taking a class this semester entitled "Elections & Electoral Behavior". Not my cup of tea, but she loves it. She received her absentee ballot and took a picture of it. LOL!!!
-
Have you Republican's considered the fact of how OLD your pres. pick is?? Have you done ANY checking into the qualifications of his side kick? Can you honestly go to bed at night, look yourself in the mirror and say "yes, she is fully qualified to run this country?" It is an insane thought and I think we are insulted that this was thrown at us and held on such a holy grail because she is a woman. She is beyond under qualified for this position. She can't even explain to a 3rd grader what the position is!!!! I think that is what we find as offensive. This is not the church back sale we're talking about, this is leading one of the biggest powers on the plant. And there is no way she can possibly carry that out. She may be a woman, but I do not look up to her.
Here's an article from what I mentioned yesterday:
The Palin Implosion Continues
By David Knowles
Oct 22nd 2008 8:57AMFiled Under:eRepublicans, John McCain, Featured Stories, 2008 President, Sarah Palin
It has been another dizzying 24-hours for John McCain's vice presidential pick, Sarah Palin.
Last night, two damaging stories broke. First, The Associated Press revealed that Palin had inappropriately used Alaska taxpayer money to pay for plane travel for her daughters to attend functions to which they were not invited. After the fact, Palin went back and altered expense reports to make it look like her kids were part of "official business." One such taxpayer-funded trip was to watch Todd Palin participate in a snowmobile race.
Next, Politico reported that the RNC has so far spent more than $150,000 on clothing and accessories for Palin and her kin. The Palin's personal shoppers have shelled out $49,425.74 at Saks Fifth Avenue in St. Louis and New York, and a whopping $75,062.63 at Needless Markup Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis. All this, as most Americans prepare to spend a whole lot less this holiday season.
Before these stories hit the wires, Palin's latest interview was making the YouTube rounds. In it, she claimed that, if elected VP, she would be "in charge of" the Senate, and would "really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes." Watch:
Well, I guess she and McCain could always try to re-write the constitution.
Also on this momentous campaign day, Palin issued an apology for her "real America" stump speech. Last week, Palin told a crowd in rural North Carolina:
"We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in the pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, very pro-America areas of this great nation."
Her linkage of authenticity to small town zip codes didn't sit well with many patriotic, hard-working city dwellers, as so brilliantly captured on the Daily Show, and yesterday Palin tried the old, "If anyone was offended, I am truly sorry" routine.
"I don't want that misunderstood," Palin said. "If that's the way it came across, I apologize."
There is only one group in the country who still thinks that Palin was a wise pick for VP. They are the staunchest among the GOP base. The ones who cry out for more character attacks on Obama. The dead-enders. So says a new Wall Street Journal poll, anyway. When was it released? You guessed it. Yes, October 21 was one hell of a day for Sarah Palin.
