Did you guys hear about the interview Chris Matthews did with Michele Bachman? I watched it live with my mouth agape? I felt like she was the incarnate of Joseph McCarthy. Here's the youtube of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FoSdubULhA8 . Anyone who knows a Minnesotan, encourage them to see this video and and vote for El Tinklenberg http://www.tinklenberg08.com/  rather than the homophobe who wants members of congress investigated to see if they are pro or anti american. I know nothing about this guy, but he's the democratic candidate and he doesn't believe congress should be investigated to see who's pro and who's anti american, so he's better than Bachman.

Good Lord. Snopes.com is our friend. :)

To be honest, just seeing the name Thomas Sowell would ordinarily cause me to skip right past it. But if it's on the internets then it's true, right?  Kind of like using Wikipedia as a source in a paper. Next we'll probably see stuff from The Onion posted as fact. (although the story of John Mc Cain being left on the campaign bus was pretty funny.)

I hope Nancy (?can't remember) deletes the posting.

I just listened to the Bachmann interview.  Wow.  It isn't much different than saying all muslims are terrorists.  Scary stuff.

Little-G, you said this VERY well!  I'll be quoting you:

...what a joke that campaign is.  And for them to start spewing this "socialist" stuff.  They may want to look at themselves and see if the word Fascist comes to mind.

PIP, that Bachmann interview was appalling, wasn't it?  Chris Matthews was really pretty clearly appalled with her -- "Are there members of the U.S. Congress that you think are un-American?"

Really reminded me of "Good Night and Good Luck" and the whole McCarthy era.  Wow.

Ok, I'm confused....I didn't hear Biden's speach but from the tidbets I got it sounded like he was McCains running mate and not Obama's.  What was going on with that?

Here's a direct quote of what Bachmann said on Hardball:

"What I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look. I wish they would. I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out if they are pro-America or anti-America."

This is what she wrote in her own defense today:

It's like a political version of the children's game of telephone. I make a statement in an interview. Chris Matthews distorts it - as he is paid so well to do. The liberal blogs contort it even more. The speaker of the House and other Democrat leaders utter absolute lies about what was said in the interview. Then the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee picks it up and runs with it, buying $1 million for negative ads so that they don't have to talk about the issues.

    She goes on:

But when you can't win on the issues, you steal the election with a couple of lies and $1 million worth of mud. And the media reports and Democrat responses to my interview on "Hardball" have been echoing the outright lies of the liberal blogs. Is it really any wonder people are so cynical about politics?

Can't win on the issues?  Did she really write that with a straight face?  Hope she's toast.

Please understand, I know that is an offensive post, the most offensive and distasteful I have ever done.  But It is also equally distasteful for someone to say Gov Palin will show up posing in Penthouse or Playboy.  Please some discourse needs to be civil.  Not racist not demeaning, not sexist.

You counter a post that you find offensive with an even more offensive one?  Why not post your second message with your first, if your point was to educate us progressive women about feminism and civil discourse.  Why not simply object to the supposedly offensive remark?  That's what we do when you guys post your racist photos and diatribes.

If you find it objectionable, you're entitled to report it.  Yes.  Better that than posting a racist remark.

    IBCspouse,

I have ready your comments on the republican thread, and while I do not agree with you, I had respect for your opinions. As a black woman, I have been thoroughly insulted by your post. As a intelligent human being I find it beyond appalling that you would post such a thought, and especially on this thread.

LAphoenix, I just came here because saw where IBC posted and wanted to now what he said.  Then, I went back through the posts to see WHY he said it.  I couldn't believe what he was saying.  Now, I'm back here to post and UNDERSTAND WHY he said it and he explained to you WHY and I shall repost it because I didn't know he had already explained why.  BTW, I think you should report Little-G's statement too.

First, I'm going to say that IBC is an honorable man, a man who looks afte his sick wife.  How dare you to even report him.  Can't you take care of this yourself.

    Little-G wrote:

Personally, I think this woman is happy just getting her 15 min.of fame and having everyone tell her how hot she isWhen she dosn't win VP, we'll be seeing her in an issue of Penthouse or Playboy.  The troll would have been better suited to pick her as court jester.

That remark is beyond sexist.  It's full of vial and venom  =  HATE.  IBC was ONLY trying to make a point.  I believe for the very first time I will use my report button too.  And before Little-G has a chance to delete her message I have the proof.

Where on the republican (yes, ya'lll call is REPUG..should we call you DIMS?) are we spewing so much hatred for your candidate.  We don't talk about his big ears amongst other things I probably could come up with, but would be ver distasteful.

Your message is full of vitriolic language.  Acutally, I find it repulsive.

    Little-G wrote:

The repulicans are SPEWING anything.  You guys are angry because Obama has finally caught SAYING IT..SPREAD THE WEALTH AROUND = SOCIALISM for which the American people are not in favor of.

NOW, GO AHEAD AND IGNORE MY POST.  BECAUSE YOU CAN'T COME UP WITH A DEFENSE.

BTW, it's been posted right here on the Obama thread about the porn flick that's coming out from Hustler and I think you guys found that amusing.  At least as far as I read you didn't defend Governor Palin against such vitriol.

Instead of just "talk" why don't you guys post things that are worth reading so you can CHANGE OUR MINDS?

    I'm done.

    Cherryl,

to you I appologise,  I just strongly believe that sexist and racism are offensive.  Bigotry has more than one face.  I tried to make a point, I never come to this thread to state opposing views or bash your candidate.  Whoever is elected will still be my President.

What is going here?  This an Obama thread.  I don't understand why people who are not in favor of Obama have the need to post here?  I am all in favor of Barack's opinions on the "wealth" of this country.  I have nothing to defend on that.  I am offended of what more and more seems to be racist comments coming from the Republican side and the idea that women will be happy to have ANY woman represent us.  Your colors show more each day, and they are not red, white and blue.  Why are you offended on the comments of the troll's side kick?  She is an attention grabbing women.  15 min. of fame where ever she can find it.  My opinion.  If you disagree, that's your opinion.  That's what democracy is all about!!!! I am not going to delete my message.  I don't think it's that far out of the box from what she's doing now.    We'll all see who's right on this as it plays out.  However, I hold my opinion strong and have nothing to defend or delete.  I may hit the ignore button on you however.  That's my right as well.  Have a happy day!

ibcspouse: There are lots of African American women who read this board.  Do you want to guess how many of them found your stand-alone remark offensive?  As a woman, I didn't find the Playboy comment objectionable.  Palin paraded around in a bathing suit in a beauty pageant for crying out loud.  She allowed men to rate her body to win a contest.  She's no feminist and no friend to women.  In fact, she laughed when a radio commentator called her female opponent in Alaska, a bc survivor, a "bitch" and a "cancer."

Shirley, I reported the first post and responded to it immediately upon reading it.  It was a gut reaction based on that post.  I didn't see the second post until later.  The first is still an objectionable post that should be deleted as an affront to this community.  It wasn't something personal between ibc and me.  I don't know him except by what he posted here.

Wow ... don't know what happened over here.

Funny thing, I'm a dem and I usually stick to the Repub thread.  Now both threads get on my last nerve.

That interview with the congresswoman from Minnessota and Chris Matthews was on last Friday.  I saw it live.  I could not believe what I was hearing.  At first I thought it must be a joke or some kind of weird campaign drivel.  But, the U.S. senator from that state was on Hardball last night or was it Sunday night and confirmed that what that woman was saying was indeed what she believed.  The senator also reported the congresswoman has stated lots of other things along these same lines in congress over the past couple of years.  Nothing new there.

First of all, Matthews treated her quite fairly.  Didn't lose his temper, didn't talk down to her, didn't role his eyes, etc.  She dug her own pit.  Noboby misquoted her, noone put words in her mouth.

I don't know what's happened here with IBC spouse or what the posts up above are all about, but I do know that IBCspouse is a good person and a good a caring husband.  So back off about the husband stuff.  He happens to be at the hospital with his wife right now.

What the hell has happened here.  These threads are political discussions.  That's all.

No matter who wins this election, our country will move forward.  You know why ... because we're Americans.  The PEOPLE of this country will ensure we ultimately move forward.  We will not have a dictatorship or facist regime.  We will not have a socialist country.  We will have either a democrat or republican president.

    Again,

I didn't read what was posted about Palin above .. but my gut reaction after seeing her on SNL and watching her on TV for the last 2 months is that she likes the attention.

I am and was a Hillary supporter.  When she didn't win the primary, I switched to McCain.  When he announced Palin ... I was floored and decided to stick with my party.

I guess I missed something here also.  I will say this, I don't agree with IBC on political views but I have found him to be a very caring man for his wife who is ill.  I find that very commendable.  Like I said IBC, you and I will never agree on our political points but other than that you seem to be a very good man.

OK, this is what I was about to post before I got sidetracked:  If anyone's interested in sending a get well postcard to Obama's grandma, here's the address.  The campaign is asking for postcards instead of letters, so they don't have to deal with the envelopes.

Well, going back to marginal tax rates from 2000 doesn't seem very socialist to me. Taxing capital gains at the same rate as earned income isn't socialist to me. Why should someone who gets most of their income passively pay less in taxes (as a percentage of earnings) as does someone who earns most of their income actively (i.e. through a job)?  I don't believe there is any real, substantive proof that a reduced capital gains tax generates anything more than more in-pocket money for a few....certainly not jobs.  The mother of a friend - extremely wealthy - always voted Repub until the Bush tax cuts came into effect. She was disgusted that her rates were cut for no good reason....she didn't need anything more.

Recognize that tax rates are marginal rates....you pay x% up to so much, then a higher % on the next chuck of income and so on. The highest marginal rate does not mean that one pays that % on all of their income.

Let's talk about who received a stimulus check this year. I didn't. Not one penny. Thanks to me and my taxes, someone else got a check. Bitter?  Not really...mostly a realist...because that's the way it goes.

I have one of those gold-plated health plans that McCain mumbles about. So what? I made the choice to trade salary that I could have earned somewhere else for great benefits. Tax those benefits?  Why?  There's no way I could buy the coverage I have for $2500/year. NO WAY. Hell, I know someone with a 20% co-pay - she had $800 co-pays for every neulasta shot. Criminal. No one should go bankrupt paying for medical care. I would be uninsurable or with such a high deductible and/or copay that I wouldn't be able to afford going to the doctor.

I don't know how someone could get the impression that we're angry over here. Not even close. Disgusted maybe with how low certain people go (pro-America?  "communist" No VA?)  I wonder how many people up in arms over tax rates would even see their taxes rise.

Ms Palin is a non-entity in my eyes. She's power hungry (not that there's anything necessarily wrong with that), unable to see that she's there for show, not substance, has shown remarkable misjudgement in dealing with people and situations in her home state, relishes - yes - relishes being in the public eye and the MILF crap. McCain is a bitter man - always trying  to do good for daddy, to have daddy like him. Well, we've had that kind of President for 8 years now, and I, for one, do not want to see it ever again.

I liked Hillary Clinton, I like Bill Clinton, if she were the candidate I'd support her just as much. Think about how she was treated - feminazi anybody?  murderer? dyke?  Like Jon Stewart said about the Right - Oh - we know anti-women stuff - we've been feminists for what? 2 weeks now?

Obama's the candidate...and I'm supporting him. Not drinking koolaid, I read, listen, try to understand both sides, and there is no way on God's green earth I could ever vote for That Man or That Woman. I don't believe everything I read, far from it.  Those who think the media is left wing - what a joke. Big Business is not left wing. That Obama's gotten a free ride?  Ha.

No, not angry....and you know what? If my kids were to vote Republican I'd be disappointed (I like to think I raised them better than that Wink), but I wouldn't talk of disowning them just like I don't abandon friends who vote differently.  Life goes on...maybe now some of the Repubs will get an understanding of what it's been like for the rest of us this past 8 years.

I don't know about anyone else but I went through some severe hardships and lost my house early on in this crisis.  I tried to work with the bank yet they refused to discuss anything with me unless I could come up with "X" amount of money.  If I was having touble keeping my loan up to date due to a job loss how on earth would I come up with this money.  Since they wouldn't work with me I lost the home that I loved.  I have been a renter since. Once I was re-employed it took awhile but everything got back on track.  I just wish the bank would have worked with me.  But now I can't buy another home that I could be earning equity in and instead I am paying other people's mortages, helping them earn equity and a few bucks in the process.  Just sucks!  Our economy has been the absolute pits for a very long time!

I am self employed, and so pay my own health insurance.  I pay almost 800/month for 4 of us.  However, if I use it, I end up in more medical debt.  I paid the first year of dx, after rads and all, $40,000 out of pocket. I still have about another 12,000 to go which I am paying off in installments. I do own my home (as much as the majority of us "own" our homes).  I am in a place now where I should have a bone scan, but I am delaying it as long as possible.  It will just go to my deductible and then I will owe even more. I don't want to loose my home in order to pay medical bills.  It dosn't seem a fair trade.  This is just one piece of the injusts going on in America.  That is just one of mine. And LuAnn's above.  I can imagine how many others are going on.  While the good ol' boys are eating steak and drinking the best.  It seems to have been how well they cared about each other and staying on top.  Not the lower level people like us.  After all, we are just the worker bees designed to keep them where they are.  It's BS and its over!  "Sharing" is a good word!  Remember?

BinVA- this thread seems to get into trouble when the repug trolls rear their hateful heads in here. Most of the repubs are respectful of the thread, but when the bigots and the haters come on things tend to get tense. I do believe Palin LOVES the spotlight. Maybe she'd be happier (and the world would be better off) if she went back to being a sports broadcaster.

LAP- Bachman's better off not saying anything rather than trying to deny her words that were on tv straight for the horse's mouth. I hope she gets defeated in a landslide. I hear she's getting well deserved bad press in Minnesota. I have to wonder why a man without breast cancer would come here to a mostly woman's community on the threads that don't have to do with his wife's illness and throw his weight around. Is it something chauvanistic that he thinks his self proclaimed greatness around?

I hope the trolls (repugs) go back under their rocks in 2 weeks. Win or lose, Obama voters, we need to keep this positive liberal thread going because the hate won't go away Nov 5th.
