Hikergal I know that "theladygrey" used cold caps and apparently had good results. You could send her a private message for more details. There is also a specific thread called "Cold Caps Users Past and Present, to save hair" if you do a search.

I started taking Biotin tablets right after chemo. I was taking 1000mg but have upped it to 2000. Its hard to say if it helps but it can't hurt. My nails are growing well and the tips are quite white. Tyring to get alot of protien in my diet, lots of water.
-
Myleftboob - I will be watching your progress closely as I am 4 1/2 weeks PFC and am still smooth as a baby where my hair fell out.
-
Kjiberty, I'm taking 1000 mg of Biotin daily and have been since chemo. Who knows if it helps, but I think it's helping me, so that's what counts, right?
-
Thanks dragonfly1, I checked out the cold caps section. Not so worried about losing it, just want a guarantee it will come back. Wondering if taking Biotin, a good diet, and being easy on my hair as it tries to regrow will be enough to make sure it does.
Wave Whisper, thanks for the Biotin advice. I have been taking a hair, skin, and nails supplement since I tend to be a bit thinner on top and it only has 5 mg per capsule, taken 3 times a day. Where do you purchase your Biotin, at any health food store?
-
Hikergal I've been taking 5mg Biotin since several years before diagnosis when my hairline started to recede. I took through chemo and haven't stopped. My new dermatologist was pleased to see I was taking 5mg of Biotin. BTW my hair not only came back but also a lot of the receding too. It looks great. I always had thick hair. It did come back thicker too. I thought for sure I would be one of the ones that it wouldn't come back but it looks awesome.

kjiberty.....I have the same issue with my hair as you. I'm 2 weeks after Round 2 and the hair that I had left is actually growing! I still have alot of hair at the nape of the neck, too. I haven't been completely bald yet. I wonder if I'll lose any more? It looks really weird.
-
For the ladies ahead of me... I am now 8 months PFC and my hair is still growing straight up (Look more like Don King every day) When did your hair start laying down???? My hair is now about two inches long stands straight up with then ends bending over..
-
Thanks for the biotin input, Ladies!
-
Karen, a big OOPS on my part!! After you asked about where I purchased my Biotin, I went to look at the bottle. With my glasses on, this time. The first thing I saw was that it was a 5000 rather than 1000. Then, when I looked more closely, I saw that, in smaller type, it said "MCG," or micrograms, not milligrams! So all along, I've been saying I was taking 1000 mg of biotin, when I've been taking 5 mg a day, just as Iago has.
Sorry for any confusion, ladies.
-
WaveWhisperer: I was thinging yours was a little off. Thanks for the update. I am going today and buying some. I think I am going to buy some SmartLash or something by Peter Thomas Roth at Ulta today to promote eyelash/brow growth too. Don't know if I can nip this loss in a bud, but maybe it will help stimulate new growth.
-
Ossa my hair was quite "puffy" for a while. I found blow drying it flat helped as well as a little hair spray. When your hair is so short it takes just a couple of minutes to blow dry.
I purchase my Biotin from the Vitamin Shoppe. 2X a year the have buy 1 get one free on the vitamin shoppe brands so I stalk up on all my supplements. I think it's September and April.
-
CVS has the BOGO too quite often. I am pretty sure the biotin helps. I ran out and did not take it for a few weeks and my nails got a little brittles.
-
I have a "brush cut" type style (2 mos PFC) and I woke up this morning with bed head!!! To funny.
-
Last night I had a bad hair night! My little fuzz was sticking out on one side and wouldn't lay down. I have never been so happy to have bad hair!
-
I am 4.5 months PFC and the hair is just starting to lay flat but it has no body ...not thick like it used to be! Then again I used to colour it and that gave it body. Used to be so easy to manage.
Am I forever gonna be cursed with the cowlick on the top of my head?? It is still way too short to get a professional cut.
-
lago thanks for your experience taking biotin thru chemo. I am so glad your hair came back thicker. When did it start coming back?
Carrol2, looks like I am beginning the same regimen as you, TC followed by Tamoxifen. When did your hair come back and did you take supplements for hair during your chemo?
Wow M m4 babies, that is great that you haven't lost all your hair? Are you doing anything special with it?
Decided this morning to forgo the cold cap therapy, it seems so cumbersome and expensive. Seems like I am hearing some great ways to help with supplements, etc.
No problem on the dose WaveWhisperer! Thanks for clarifiying.
Think I will stick with the Hair, Skin, and Nails supplement. It is made by Nature's Bounty and I think I bought it at Costco.
kjliberty, let us know what you find out about the eyebrow/eyelash growth promoter.
Love all the bad hair days! I feel more optimistic as I start chemo that I will be ok.
-
Hikergal I think it might have come back during chemo. I never really paid attention till after chemo. The first picture I took was almost 5 weeks PFC. My hair grew rather fast even on Herceptin (faster once I was off it). Granted my hair always grows fast. Here's the hair transition linky. I need to update. I'm keeping it short but right now it's the longest it's been… need a hair cut. The texture is back to normal since January but I haven't taken any photos this year.
-
Wow Lago...that's cool.
SAN
-
Ossa, I am three months PFC and after it was about a quarter inch long, it started laying flat down and I can't even spike it!
-
Hikergal......No, I'm not doing anything special. I did lose most of my hair, I'm just not shiny bald. It's just weird how some spots like my nape and my sideburns still have dark hair. Plus, I have alot of sporatic dark hair all over so I have the brillo pad feel. Not like when I first buzzed it but it's strange because what's left is growing longer. Think baby chick......lol......
-
Lago: All your pics are beautiful!
-
I DID IT ---- 8 weeks and went topless today to work for the first time. My friend Ativan helped me out...but I did it and got some terrific feedback :-) Boy that was almost as hard as losing the hair..lol
LAGO how do I get a picture off of my desktop and onto here?
-
AEM...congrats...welcome to the world of "topless"....onward and upward
-
yeah AEM...it feels amazing doesn't it!!! Way to go
Maggie

Kjiberty you're so sweet. It's because I picked out the best ones
I have added a picture from today but I can't seem to get it to load yet. I'm getting it cut tomorrow so I though you might want to see my hair "long".
AEM47 you have to host your photos on a server somewhere. Photobucket is free. Here's a tutorial on how to do it: linky
Guess you figured it out while I was posting. You look awesome
-
Thanks Lago - I tried flicker..I think it worked. It kept doubling the pictures, but I hope they are visible.
-
AEM47
What a stunner you are! Great coverage. I think we finished chemo around the same time didn't we? I was done April 20 but I don't have near the coverage you do. Fortunatley for my DX I'm on Herceptin, not so good for my hair growth it seems.
-
AEM--Looks great!!! Your're beautfiul!! That is pretty much what I looked like at two months!! I wish I knew how to post pics or I would do so! Congrats!!! Feels so good and freeing doesn't it???
