woohoo AEM!
-
Leftboob - thank you - Yup, we did finish the same time - I hear herceptin could slow the growth a bit, but it should take off reallyu well well when you're done - I've got to do tamoxifen. I also heard that might slow it too?
-
AEM47 you look great! You have beautiful eyes!!!
-
Teakay - it does feel good :-) that wig was really bothering me and I realized I was scratching my head all the time because the hair was coming in. It did take quite a bit of talking to myself this morning...and then Ativan finally talked me into leaving that wig behind. I was also woindering if it was messing with the new hair since it was so itchy with the wig on.
Funny part is, I am a blond !!! go figure this color??..never thought I'd hear myself say this, but I think I like this new color better. I can't wait till it really fills in and there is some sort of syle.

Oh I remember the first day out very well and I was a nervous wreck, but friends encouraging me along the way really helped to get me over the hump! Tomorrow will be much easier!! And the next day and the next--until you just don't think about it that much anymore!
I am a blond blonde too--mine didn't come in as dark as yours, but mine is darker than it was and grayer! I like your darker hair!! I am keeping mine darker too. I am four months pfc and I have between and inch and a inch and a half of hair! I put this medium hold wax hair stuff made by Aveda on top to help tame it because otherwise it sticks straight up!! I think that I am starting to get the chemo curl though because my back is now taking on this strange wave pattern!!! We just gotta be patient and before we know it we will be getting it styled!!!
-
You look beautiful just like that!
-
AEM...you are a stunning brunette!
-
Gorgeous AEM! You finished chemo 3 weeks after me and have much better coverage than I do. Go girl!
-
Congrats AEM!
-
You are stunning AEM. I finished April 5th and have about the same as you. Congrats on going topless and welcome to the world. It feels like freedom!!
-
AEM47.... You look great......
Your hair is growing in beautifully! -
AEM: WOW! You look beautiful. Your hair is really growing in. I hope to be that far by Thanksgiving. Finish up tx on 6/28. Are you taking biotin?
-
Congratulations, AEM! You look fabulous and if you're going out in the world looking as confident as you do in that picture, you've got nothing to worry about!
-
Aem you look awesome, hope I will be there with you soon! Topless at last!
-
AEM you look awesome. Your eyes are incredible. What have you done to stimulate hair growth. I am ahead if you by five weeks and I don't have as much hair. Do you have any tips for us? My husband has more hair than me:(, heck the two year old sitting next to me at the school awards has more hair than me. Lol. I so want to get rid of that wig!
-
Thanks guys :-) It was scary, but I think you're right it will get easier. I did have some fun while wearing that wig... I got some strange looks from some who had recently asked me where I got my hair cut... and now realize I was full of shit when I sent them to SuperCuts down the street. I'm okay with them never talking to me again.
Some that said they loved my hair, I would tell them if they gave me a minute to take it off...they too could have that style....some I just straight out told it was a wig...or that I loved this style so much since it was the only style I ever had that I could take off at night.....that seemed to puzzle alot of people.
But I got alot of strange comments like " wow...that's alittle different look for you " I got the impression some people thought I actually went and got a summer crew cut and dyed it...lmao. I should have sent those people to super cuts too. I also had some people who normally would greet me in the hallways, look very uncomfortable...I don't know why, but I kinda enjoyed that..hehee
But overall most were very encouraging and supportive which put me more at ease as the day went on. It really is a strange to feel unrestricted again outside of the house.
Kjibery - yes Biotin 2xs a day 5mcg each
-
Whatashocker3 I use Nioxin 1 both the shampoo and conditioner and have been using it since I lost my hair - every day even while I was bald. It took care of all the irritation from going bald right away and I think it helped and is still helping - also Biotin, B-150's and 1000 B-12 - Also used Rogaine and once a day I throw moroccan oil on it and massage it in. Not sure what may have been the biggest help, but it is visibly growing...so I don't dare sto anything yet.
-
Last summer all my facebook friends that didn't know what was going on all of a sudden saw my long bob profile picture go short. The loved the new pixie. They had no idea what had transpired the past year. When people say the short hair looks good most truly mean it.
-
I don't know why when people compliment me on my "hair" I feel compelled to tell them it's a wig....
-
Aem47, terrific head of hair, you look marvelous!
When hair looks like that and you go topless, there's always going to be a few people who think it's intentional. One well-educated woman at work, who knew what I was going through, even asked me if my hair fell out or if I'd shaved it. That was almost a year ago, and I don't think I'm ever going to forgive her because what she was saying was 'did you shave your head to get attention?' and that really pissed me off!
-
AEM, you look freakin adorable and that is a lot of hair for 8 weeks. Congrats on going topless!
Oh, and the T cracked me up. I wear my husband's hanes the same way.
-
JoanQuilts...look in the mirror and practice:
observer: "Your hair looks nice"....Joan: "Oh, thank you.'
observer: "I like your hair".....Joan: "Gosh, thanks!"
-
Joan - LOL, don't feel too bad, I feel the same obligation. I wonder what I will feel obligated to say when they compliment my buzz cut when I finally go topless!
-
Geez Aem you have inspired me to start taking something for my hair regrowth, you look great. I have one more taxol treatment to go and am hopeful that it will really start growing after that. I am getting hair and nail vitamins from Costco, and am looking at these shampoos. This Nioxin looks popular but there are so many systems, anybody know which system of shampoos is best? I am not ready to deal with minoxidil just yet.
-
Great pics, AEM. You look beautiful, strong, and confident.
I hope I look half as good when I get where you are.
-
While doing some research on hair stuff I came across this stuff called Thymuskin. Anybody have any experience with it? It is unbelievably expensive but says that it will prevent hair loss from chemo. I am too late for that but was wondering if any one tried it and had any luck or in anyone has used it after hair loss to help regrowth. I am skeptical, so many of these beauty products are crap and are taking advantage of desperate people with prices like that.
-
jpm...you are still on Taxol and you have a regrowth like that? Oh lucky you....by my last Taxol, I had a little white fuzz., mostly on my chin!
-
Yes! So happy and surprised! I got the fuzz on my face too. Nair for face work but gave me a mild rash for a couple of days...
-
after almost 5 months, I shaved it...so far it hasn't reappeared. I was afraid of rash too from NAIR...hope I don't have to use it eventually. Fingers crossed!!!
-
AEM, you really do look cute.
JoanQuilts, lol. I know what you mean, but yesterday a woman at my gyn office was like "I love your hair!" She had no idea, so I said thanks & went back to my book. She proceeded to ask if I blow it out, flat iron it, and wanted to know which products I use to keep it so smooth and shiny. I gave one word answers & she finally gave up. I probably seemed a little rude, but I do what I have to do to get myself past uncomfortable situations these days.
