emmac - I'm sitting here picturing you at the pool with the kids making fun of your baldness and I want to jump in the picture and hug you. I'm sorry that happened and I bet you are beautiful. As for your nephew, I love the race and the caption! I hope you win the hair race!
-
bcisnofun - bald, bald cue ball here! Now I'm 2 months PFC and have about 3/4 inch. It's all laying down now too!
-
Did you feel that earthquake about 45 minutes ago? Sorry that was just me jumping for joy! After 9 months of cancer treatments, I am DONE! Did you hear me? I am DONE! DONE! DONE!
-
MamaV you have to come celebrate with us. I finished my last Herceptin Sept 6th.
Oh and to think I thought that earthquake was a CTA bus going by.
-
Yeah, yeah , yeah Mama v! So happy for you!!!
-
Congratulations, MamaV!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Congrats MomaV!
-
By the way, I had someone tell me that she liked my "haircut" today. I instantly thought of about a million responses back, but just said "thank you."
I've tried several times to attach a picture, but as of yet, have not been successful. Will keep trying though because this hair of mine is getting crazy curls and waves. If I don't comb it right away after washing it, I've got a major mohawk. But if I gel it, it just looks dirty.
-
"thank you" is hard when we all know it looks like crap, isn't it?
-
5 month post chemo and still wearing a wig. My hair is only about 1 inch long and so curly that it looks silly. My MO nurse actually laughed when I showed her today. I can't go in public like this. Will it ever be normal?
-
mamav - congrats on being done! You're 2 months PFC and have 3/4" hair? And it's laying down. You keep me hopeful!
-
mammav yes I felt it all the way her in NY, you are awfully small to be making such a ripple!! Yay for done with treatments. Party like its your birthday!
bcisnofun I take the biotin, not sure if it helps, but my hair is coming in really thick, which was not how it was pre chemo.
-
Oh, carberry you give me hope. I had very fine hair pre BC and am really hoping for it to come back thick. It seems to be on the back of my head, but not the top.
-
Dawn - you know, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, as they say. I think sometimes we are overly-sensitive to the different look that is thrust upon us. People who don't know the history are looking at us from a completely different perspective. My daughters insisted that my hair looked really great when I got it clipped just before chemo. I thought it was awful and made me look old, het they have continued to insist that they liked it. They are great girls, but they would not hesitate to tease me if they thought it looked funny. I thought it made me look "old".
I look at these two pictures - the clipped hair and then the wig, and I see in the bottom picture someone that looks 20 years younger. It's almost hard to imagine I'm looking at the same person! But then, I am 61 and the clipped hair picture shows hair that may be more "age appropriate." I am hoping when my hair comes back, that I can learn to like what I see.
achpurple - I find the easiest way to post a picture is to use the copy/paste function. Just click inside your picture, right click the mouse and select copy. Then click inside this text box, right click and select paste. This does NOT work with Firefox, I typically use IE. You can also post a picture using the tree icon in the grey toolbar above the text box. You will need to have your picture uploaded to a site like Picasa, Flickr or Shutterfly. Then you copy and paste the link into the box that asks for the URL.

Can someone tell me what bed head is? Does that mean it is flat all over? Are the recommendations protein, B-12 and Biotin for the hair? Thanks
-
Bed head - when the hair is smushed, bent, flattened in all the wrong places after sleeping on it. You know you have to do something with it that usually involves styling product, washing and restyling, etc. Kinda like "hat hair"!

Michelle its not the cut its the color. did you always wear your hair short, cause its very cute? I like the brunette color on you...verrrrry young. I had alway highlighted my hair and it eventually just became one blond color...now coming in original brown and my daughter commented on how glad she was that i was back to my original color.
-
I think it's also the hairdresser's coverup around you in that pic, Michelle too. It would be a much diifferent look if you were in your clothes.
-
Thanks everyone! Had a great celebratory dinner out last night and DH and kids are planning a huge party in October!
kathylyon - you made me laugh. Bed head means my hair was messed up! I am so happy to have hair long enough to get messed up! Still wigging it for now though ... we'll see how long I can take it!
-
Carberry - I've usually had my hair about the length of the wig. And yes, that drape does nothing for me...lol. Here's a picture of me this past NYE with "fresh" hair color. The wig was based on this look:
Pretty close, really!

MamaV- I am so happy I made you laugh and I am happy that you had bed head ( now that I know what it is). I am not there yet. I am in 10th week PFC. How long did it take from your last treatment to get your bed head? Did you take biotin or B-12 or any of that sutff?
-
LOL - bed head may become the new "target" for hair growth achievement!
-
Ha ha! I love you guys! My first "bed head" was this past weekend. I was 10 weeks PFC last Thursday. I noticed my hair getting a little jacked up when I'd take off my towel turban after a shower (It always made me feel like there was a head of hair under there) just last week. I swear it was overnight. I take Tamoxifen, thyroid meds and a daily multivitamin. That's more than enough so I didn't add anything else. I am hoping to shed the wig by Christmas but we will have to wait and see!
-
my hair finally looks like I did it on purpose vs having it fall out.. and grow back
the other day at work I saw a customer I had not seen in over a year, before i was diagnosed, and before chemo.. he said "wow, you chopped all your hair off!!!" i could of thought of a million responses, but he is not a close acquaintance, just a customer, so i said "yeah, i did" thinking he is going to say something about my old long hair he says "wow! you look wonderful, you can totally pull it off! and it makes your face look so much happier not hiding behind all the hair!" this coming from a MAN! ha!! made my day....
-
by the way, i just uploaded a new pic for my avatar.. this is me 6 months pfc!!! woooohhooo!!
-
I think your friend has hit on something that explains why everyone tells us we look good with little hair There is nothing to hide our features - all of our face is right out there. So if we're wearing a smile and short "do" we look good! It's something I will consider down the road...keeping my hair off my face.
-
Great pic hdangelbaby! You look great. I want some hair so badly. I am 5 weeks pfc (although it started growing back a bit on taxotere). I have to wait six months. Uggh.....
-
I am 10 1/2 weeks from my last chemo and my hair still is not growing back. Has this happened to anyone else.
-
I am sorry. I am 8 weeks PFC not 5, I guess I'll blame it on chemo brain. Not too far behind you. I don't have much hair yet either.
-
We need more hair growth pictures on this "Hair" site girls!
