I woke up with BED HEAD! My hair is actually long enough to get messed up! (Barely - ha ha!)
-
Carberry, I'd take thick and furry. Mine is so thin on top. It seems a lot thicker in the back. I feel like Fuzzy Wuzzy.
-
Isn't BED HEAD a good thing??? Congrats MamaV!
I was goofing around last night, and tried to put a TINY elastic band in to make a ponytail...right on the top of my head, where it's longest... Couldn't get it wrapped twice, but I'm getting much closer!
I might have been able to pull it tight enough, but I was afraid I'd end up ripping out some hairs, and then they'd NEVER grow back!
-
Yep, carberry, I'm being compared daily to every furry critter out there. It's growing in a faux-hawk, longer at the top than the sides - my emo students want me to dye it purple - just the faux-hawk...not gonna happen. I wanted to grow it forl 8 wks PFC, so my DD trims it this coming weekend. Wow, 8 wks.
-
Lago, I am going back a few posts....I had to laugh at your post about not being able to go to lunch ... you should post under you know you have had BC when...... you can't meet for lunch because you are getting nipples LOL !!!!
I hope everyone has a great week !!!
-
LOL! That is a good one for that.
-
Too funny Tracie.

jackifp, I am one of those who has decided not to colour my hair, and at 52 I am learing to embrace the salt and pepper look. I have never been into the hair and makeup thing, but for a few years I did colour my hair, a lovely auburn shade. But, it just got too expensive and time consuming to maintain, so I let it go. Before chemo I had mostly brown hair, with some gray in it, and now it is coming back mostly gray. When I had the real chemo curls, I saw my mother looking back everytime I looked in the mirror, but since my last haircut, the curls seem to be gone and I am liking the short look. Even my dh says that he likes it, and he is a long hair guy. I was shopping for some clothes yesterday, and the sales clerk who was helping me said that the top I was trying on went beautifully with my hair, and then she asked me if I got it done like that or if it was natural. Rather than going into detail, I just said that it was natural. It made me feel great.
-
Hey Lilly-- I am 8 weeks from last treatment. My top is thin- still see the pink of the scalp and sticking streight up. The rest seems to be coming in just fine. Is that how your hair was also until this past week?
-
Checked out your hair update Lago....looking good - I swear you are getting younger with every picture!!
-
marjie just wait. Midwestern winter is tough on my skin. Between the dry air and wind I'll look like 50 by February… Oh wait my birthday is in February. Make that 51.
I do think the further away I get from PFC the better I look. I also feel better so I'm sure that has something to do with it. Of course remember I also had surgery June 24th and Shingles in April. All that is stress on the body.
BTW that last picture I didn't smile as big so less wrinkles around the eyes and the lighting was less harsh.

I am 4 1/2 months PFC. I have been going topless at home, shopping, etc for about one month. This weekend I was on call at a local hospital, yesterday I wore the wig and today I decieded to go for it. One of my patients did not recognize me today, I did surgery on him yesterday! I had a conversation with a new doc at the hospital yesterday, today I said hi and he did a double take. I think tomorrow I will go to the office without the wig, I think. My hair is very short (dark) and straight. I did have some temporary color put on last week at an Aveda salon, to cover some of the gray around the ears. I guess I just need to do it, no turning back now.
-
I am two weeks PFC and discarded my wig about 5 days ago. I just hate the dents I get in my head and the sweatiness & stickiness of the wig. So far nobody's paid much attention, so I guess v. short haired women don't cause too much of a stir around New England. Anyway, it's cooling down, so I'll be wearing more hats!
-
Christine... I too am 4.5 months PFC... have been topless since July... And people compliment my haircut... Most people I tell them it was not a cut, but chemo... others, I just say 'thanks'... I would never cut it this short on purpose, but I guess it is finally at the length that some women might?? Go for it... and don't look back.
-
Anyone notice that as the weather is getting cooler, you have a cold head and neck? I have gone out with a cap the last couple of days and I found myself wishing for a little hair on the back of my neck!
Funny experience today - I was wearing a hat and walking around Marshalls. All of a sudden, this girl - maybe 9 or 10 - yells out, "Mommy, I know why that lady is wearing a hat! She's BALD!!!"
Well, I just burst out laughing and then it was even funnier when I thought that the poor mother was probably mortified.

Reminds me of the card my co-worker's 6 year old made me: I hope you feel better, and I hope your hair grows back. Love, Kylie LOL Was funny, the women in work laughed at it; the men said you better not give that card to Kay. I thought it was funny.
-
Christine47, congratulations on being brave enough to go topless at work. Are you a surgeon?
Like you Christine, I am 20.5 weeks pfc. I am so frustrated with the slowness of my hair growth. It is probably in the normal range according to others that I see on this site. My plan is to get extensions but I think my hair needs to be longer than the bare inch it is currently, or shorter on the top.
LuvRVing, I know about the cold neck as I was hairless in winter here and really felt it, especially in bed at night, and wore a cap constantly at home during the day. Now we are in spring I don't wear the cap as I hope having the head uncovered might be more nurturing for hair growth.

so good to see how well everyone is handling the hair issues and keeping their sense of humor. It is so nice to have hair again. I now wake up with bed head every day. Also it is very curly and i look like a poodle but it looks nice if i blow dry it smooth. That being said, I spent a weekend at a car show and it rained the whole time and my head was super curly the whole time even though i blew it out every morning. It is nice to have bad hair days again.
-
LuvRVing kids say the darnest things. You seemed to handle that just fine. Glad you can laugh about it.
Just took the polish of my fingernails. They are not doing as well as my hair. Tomorrow I remove it from my toenails because I have an appointment with my podiatrist Tuesday. You all think I look so good because I'm not showing you the icky stuff. Maybe I need to start a Nails Nails Nails- another question thread

lago, yes, please start a nails thread. my thumbnail has done the weirdest thing and i would love to compare it to others who have had nail problems.
-
YaYa someone did. Here it is: Nail Issues Due to Chemo
Maybe I need to post an updated photo of my fingers and toes. Guess I'll wait to put polish on tomorrow so I can take some photos. Getting better but my nails aren't quite ready for "topless" yet.
-
Lago - the Nails thread is a good idea! I had someone ask me about nail problems with Abraxane and it made me think of you. So far, my nails don't seem to be affected by Taxol. (((Knocking on wood!)))
Michelle
-
i have a big black spot on both of my toenails. I am thinking it is left over from the chemo and is just growing out now. But I asked my PS and he said to have my primary doc look at it. I am jsut gonna wait till next week when i see my onco.
-
Had both my big toenails turn black and start lifting a few months after my taxol ended My podiatrist had to cut them done. They are starting to grow back now with the nail underneath. I didn't have any problem with my fingernails. I did start taking Biotin (for Hair, Skin, and Nails) supplement. I am not sure if that is what did the trick to keep them strong.
-
My fingernails and toenails all had black spots and oozed and lifted. My onc did prescribe my antibiotics at one point in case it was infected, but that didn't help at all. I never cut them off or had them removed. I sometimes wore bandaids on the owrst ones, and I kept them painted dark for months, and I think it was about 8 months PFC when my fingers had totally grown out and were okay, and my toenails took a couple of months longer. It was one of the worst side effects I felt during and after chemo. Really gross and I was so happy to go back to my light colored polishes for the summer. My nails are totally back to normal now - 13 months PFC.

Hi there - I haven't posted on this thread yet except one question - I just have stubble now (3 1/2 weeks PFC). Once I get any hair I'll post more because it's fun for me to watch and hear from all of you who have hair now! One question - did you guys get bald bald, like cue ball bald? I always kept some stubble and am wondering every day if this is the stubble I always had or might it be growing. Unfortunately I think it's the former. Also, I read about Biotin and I've heard of coconut oil on your head to make hair grow or grow stronger. Any opinions out there as to whether any of these things really work? Thanks for your info ladies. I think you are all beautiful and strong and enjoy watching your pictures.
-
bcisnofun - I have just one more Taxol to go, and I've had stubble the whole time. I've kept hair in a few other places, too
Michelle
-
bcisnofun, I only had a few slick spots then this white peach fuzz came in during chemo. About 2 weeks PFC came black stuble but in patches. I am almost 9wks PFC and you can see the beginning of dark brown growth everywhere. And it is itchy!
I was told to take biotin, b12 and something else. So strangely enough I take biotin and a prenatal vitamin.
This weekend at work a few coworkers noticed my new hair under my head buff. One even said they were going to tear up.
When I ws at pool two preteens were making fun of my baldness, the mom was mortified. I pretended not hear them but I did cry. And every once in awhile I see very young children stare at me and rub/pet their heads which I think is cute.
I usually make jokes out of it, My nephew was born when I was diagnosed and I have a race over who gets hair first. I have a picture of his head and the caption says "He is winning by a hair!"
