National Security, of course!

I'll have to start listening to Rush. Hmmm...I wonder who will be on the radio when the inaug takes place. Think Rush will be on? I love it...Barney Frank's theme song! HAHAHAHAHA!
-
Shirley, of course I heard the song, just never saw the performance. Andy Williams poppin his cheek was hilarious!
I thought Barney's song was "banking queen". See now we are back to disco. I can relate to that.
I vote for national security. I think this is the only thing the feds should do. I want them out of my life otherwise.

Looks like Frankenstupididiot is winning because ballots have been counted twice. Yep. And, seems they're not counting military ballots.
http://www.vote.com/mmp_printerfriendly.php?id=1291
With claims of outright vote fraud, double voting -- they are even rejecting military ballots cast by our servicemen overseas to help Franken -- Franken now claims a lead.

I'm going to bed after I post this, but this looked so good and can be fixed overnight. My friend cooks steel oats. She cooks more than one serving..maybe enough for 4 days. And this being done in the crockpot..looks easy and good and healthy!
Overnight Apple-Cinnamon Oatmeal 8 servings Ingredients 4 cups water 1-1/2 cups apple juice 1 cup steel-cut oats 1/2 cup regular barley (not quick-cooking) 1 tsp. ground cinnamon 1/2 tsp. grated fresh ginger or 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 cup packed brown sugar 1/3 cup coarsely chopped pecans, toasted 2 medium apples, coarsely chopped Honey (optional) Fat-free milk (optional) Directions 1. Line a 3-1/2- or 4-quart slow cooker with a disposable slow-cooker liner. In slow cooker, combine water, apple juice, oats, barley, cinnamon, ginger, and salt. 2. Cover and cook on low-heat setting for 6 to 7 hours. Before serving, stir in brown sugar. Top with pecans and apples. Serve with honey and milk. Makes 8 servings. 3. WOW! That's big enough. Sorry!

Coleman is suing. I can't see why they won't count the vote from our people in service to our nation. When it's this close every vote should be counted especially from our guys and gals fighting wars for us. Then we'll see some dumb judge say they don't need to be counted because he/she is from the party that won. This entire process makes me sick. I don't care who wins, count all the votes! I hope Adams, Jefferson and Madison can't see us now.

Looks like Obama is going to get his first real test the day after the coronation from non other than Putin. Putin is cutting down gas supplies to Europe, especially put the squeeze on Poland. Seems they may be running out of gas, right about Jan 21st. What will the savoir do when half of EU will be without heat? Another Cuban missile crisis for a rookie president? Well, Obama says he will be able to talk anyone out of causing trouble, but I doubt that the thug Putin is going to listen. Well, at least Obama has Rhambo and a slew of other Chicago thugs with him, and they know how to make those cement boots. Instead of Lake Michigan, they will just have to use the Crimean Sea.
Can't wait for the fireworks today when Mr. Burris goes to Washington. It will be fun to see dingy Harry with egg on his face.
Way to go Shirley! Glad to see you having a hearty healthy breakfast. Can I substitute for all that sugar??
-
From what I've read Soros is helping fund their lawyers.
Why would anyone vote for such an idiot?
Rosemary, I agree..just do it right regardless of who wins!
-
Linda, you can do whatever you want with that recipe. Some say Stevia is okay..but it tastes like doo-doo. A little honey? Add a few raisins?
I don't have the oats yet. I'm gonna find me some though! My friend says she gets them from on of the grocery stores here. If not there I'll have to go to a health food store.

This is beyond stupid.
EPA COW TAX COULD $175 PER DAIRY COW TO CURB GREENHOUSE GASES
Farm Bureau warns just this one rule may increase milk production costs up to 8 cents a gallon.
http://www.businessandmedia.org/articles/2008/20081230165231.aspx
By Jeff Poor
Business & Media Institute
1/5/2009 3:55:30 PMCall this one of the newest and innovative ways your government has come up with to battle greenhouse gas emissions.
Indirectly it could be considered a cheeseburger tax, but one of the suggestions offered by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in its Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) for regulating greenhouse gas emissions under the Clean Air Act is to levy a tax on livestock.
The ANPR, released early this year, would give the EPA the authority to regulate greenhouse gas for not only greenhouse gas from manmade sources like transportation and industry, but also "stationary" sources which would include livestock.
The New York Farm Bureau assigned a price tag to the cost of greenhouse gas regulation by the EPA in a release last month.
"The tax for dairy cows could be $175 per cow, and $87.50 per head of beef cattle. The tax on hogs would upwards of $20 per hog," the release said. "Any operation with more than 25 dairy cows, 50 beef cattle or 200 hogs would have to obtain permits."
Kate Galbraith, correspondent for The New York Times, noted on the Times' "Green Inc." blog that such a "proposal is far from being enacted" and that the "hysteria may be premature."
But Rick Krause, senior director of congressional relations for the American Farm Bureau, warned it's certainly feasible - especially based on the rhetoric of President-elect Barack Obama and the use of the EPA to combat global warming. Such action by an Obama administration would take an act of Congress for livestock to be exempt.
"The new president has been on record as saying that he really supports regulating greenhouse gases out of the Clean Air Act," Krause said to the Business & Media Institute. "So, we really have to keep an eye on it. Legislation would really be the only way to exempt it at this point - the cow tax."
Krause said it is difficult to quantify the cost that might be passed directly to the consumer by farmers from the legislation, but predicted it would mean higher costs for dairy production.
"It's hard to figure what it would do to consumer prices since farmers, unlike other industries, really can't pass their cost along directly like utilities and things do," "About the only thing we could realistically come up, in terms of any of this stuff - it would add between 7 and 8 cents per gallon of milk costs to farmers. So it would cost them 7 or 8 cents more to produce a gallon of milk."
Even the Department of Agriculture warned the EPA that smaller farms and ranches would have difficulty with limits as much as 100 tons annually on emissions:
"If GHG emissions from agricultural sources are regulated under the CAA, numerous farming operations that currently are not subject to the costly and time-consuming Title V permitting process would, for the first time, become covered entities. Even very small agricultural operations would meet a 100-tons-per-year emissions threshold. For example, dairy facilities with over 25 cows, beef cattle operations of over 50 cattle, swine operations with over 200 hogs, and farms with over 500 acres of corn may need to get a Title V permit. It is neither efficient nor practical to require permitting and reporting of GHG emissions from farms of this size. Excluding only the 200,000 largest commercial farms, our agricultural landscape is comprised of 1.9 million farms with an average value of production of $25,589 on 271 acres. These operations simply could not bear the regulatory compliance costs that would be involved."
-
By taxing the cows how will that stop them from FARTING!
Excuse me, but I've got to go hug a tree.
-
Shirley - it sounds like the carbon credits - they will tax the farmers and then use the money to pay for solar or wind energy to offset the amount of gas that the cows produce. How in the heck do you measure that (the gas)? The end result will be lots of small farmers giving up their farms because it will be too costly for them to comply. The bigger farms will find a way to pass the cost to the consumer resulting in higher food prices - just what we need.
The recipe sounds delicious - wonder if you can use old fashioned oats? I will have to try it.
The senate election in Minnesota is a joke - they made sure they counted the duplicate ballots along with the originals which should have been thrown out and now they won't count military ballots - bet they know it would help Coleman.
Also heard yesterday that Hillary might have a pay to play problem. Looks like she got legislation passed in the senate that helped a big donor to Bill's foundation - the timeline looks a little suspicious.
I vote for national security. I think part of the problem with the economy is all the tinkering that the government does to it to try to keep it going full steam ahead all the time. Just like a balloon - you need to let a little air out from time to time or it will eventually burst - just like the economy has done recently. The economy goes in cycles - they should just let it go on its own - we are keeping failing businesses in business and that is the problem.

Ladies, I wonder what the purpose of the troll poster is: is it to make us go away? is it to irritate us? It certainly is not posting to gain us over to the other side since the words are not conducive to agreeing. I think the person wants to irritate us, like a thorn. I think the person is doing it for entertainment value.
How about we ignore it? On the other thread, they do a good job of ignoring people that have incited them or argue with them. Can we take a lesson from that? They are the Positive Obama thread and will respond if you have something not argumentative to say .... We do not need to fall into the trap of the troll. If the troll has something positive then respond. If not, IGNORE IT.
-
Arlen Specter has put the congress on notice that they'll be looking at Eric Holder big time. I'd like to be tuning in to that. They caught a statement from Holder that needs more information.
About Hillary being under the gun also. She had an earmark that was a tad suspicious. It wasn't brought up during her campaign. I guess no one is not guilty of earmarking money for friends in business. I was waiting for it to come up, but it never did. So I'll be watching her hearings too. I wonder if there is anyone on these committees without curious earmarks that can bring up hers?
The fun and games are about to begin.
-
Rocky, we need to ignore ANYONE who tries to incite...ANYONE! And we do not have to post to each other what the troll is saying..just ignore it. Good idea. Maybe our BPs won't be going up. Now, how to stop watching the news!
-
suzfive, I agree with you.
Now, for the tax on gas. Didn't someone here post that they were thinking about putting something in the cars (gps) to see how much we drive? That IS definitely INVASION OF PRIVACY. We don't use that much gas unless we take a trip to dd's. But I still don't like it!
-
suzfive, the recipe..I think you probably should use steel-cut oats because they take a lot longer to cook. And the steel-cut are better for you. I just haven't gotten them..forget to look. My friend makes about four days worth because of the length of time it takes. Then she just warms them.
What's a disposable slow-cooker liner? Where do you get them?
-
I like Rock's idea of soaking the oats overnight and then cooking in the morning. But I still just eat regular oats. I know they are not as healthy but they still taste good! I eat mine with just cinnamon, nutmeg and a little honey.
I have this theory: We all know that O did not want Hillary anywhere near the WH but his hand was forced nominating her for SOS. What if he was okay with it, knowing that all of Bill's dealings with overseas donations would have to be made public as she is vetted. If anything shady comes out, he can deny her the post and get rid of her in one swift move. The guy is so shady I would not put this past him. This is how he got the Ill. Senate seat to begin with. First he had Rhambo sell out his dem opponent, then went after the rep. and the next thing you know, he had no competition. He is already trying to eliminated his competition for 2012. He will bide his time the first 4 years, making everyone think he is a centrist, then after reelection, he can put forth all the liberal stuff he wants to. Our only prayer will be if all these scandals finally get people to wake up and see the dems for the crooks they are, and start voting them out. Wake up sheeple!
-
Shirley, 5400. You won
-
Ok, I tried the soaking the oats overnight --- it didn't work although the cooking time was lots faster. I only had to cook them for about 5 or 10 mins as opposed to 30. I am going to try the rice cooker next!!!!!!!!! The raisins I added sure plumped up, they were delicious!

Found this on e-how on how to discuss Politics
Instructions Difficulty: Easy
Step1 Choose your side. Do your research and make educated political decisions. Examine the intricacies of the national policies that affect the world and the inner workings of the local issues that are important to you. Or you can just blindly fall in line with your parent's political party.
Step2 Present your views thoughtfully and articulately. Politics are complicated and often colored with many shades of grey. Once you have explained your position, your opponent is bound to listen to reason. If that fails, punch him or her in the face to prove that your opinion is quite clearly the logical one.
Step3 Listen to what your opponent has to say; this is a two-way discussion, an exchange of ideas. Allow him or her some time to layout what they think is wrong with the country. Then reply with, "So's your face".
Step4 Remain calm. There is no reason that the discussion of politics needs to escalate to a level where it gets out of hand. Even though the other guy won't give in at all and is obviously an idiot.
Step5 Stick to your convictions, unless the idiot is right.I just about spit at my computer when reading 2 & 3

I've heard of the disposable slow-cooker liner ... my slow cooker is easy to clean so I'll save my money.
-
That was funny, Rocky!
Yeah, I thing cleaning a crock pot is easy. The pot can be soaked too. And what are those liners made out of? LOL

Oh and Sherri -- I'm for Economic Stimulus
I think that National Security is doing good (thank you Bush) and that if Obama continues to maintain our intelligence here in the States and abroad, work with the Europeans and Brits, we can continue to outsmart the terrorists. I do not think that the war is doing the best job at keeping terrorists out. The cells are mostly outside of Iraq.
I don't think raising taxes and giving money/tax rebates is going to stimulate our economy. Getting the banks to lend money and forcing the banks renegotiate the loans is the ticket. I know people were stupid when they fell into the ARMs but I don't think at this point it will hurt anybody to readjust the mortgages and make them fixed. Even people who are having a hard time should be able to get the rate down. But for people who bought at too high a price, I would guess the bank needs to renegotiate the value and let them get a loan for that.
What is sad is that I see people getting their houses short-sold but the bank wouldn't let them have the loan at that price ... My friend is doing a short sale and now someone is buying it at a price she could afford but some stranger gets to buy it and she has to move. Oh well.
-
It's been a buys day at work. I just got around to seeing all the posts.
Rock,
It is unfortunately obvious that Obama does not plan to "maintain our intelligence" judging by his nominations. That's why I saw the errors of my way and left the other thread, where the main topics of discussion is : evil Republicans, Bush, the devil what Michelle is wearing and how are the girls are adjusting to the new school and occasional pictures of Obma as a hunk. Now I have to give it to them Bush never looked that good in swimming trunks. One has to admint the truth no matter how much it hurts
But what about today events with the junior senator from Illinois that was refused his seat! The Democrats refused to admit the ONLY African American senator, who is very outspoken about this and not afraind to fight. It's getting better and better.
-
Rock,
I like step 4 the best. This we see a lot of.
Vivre,
To me, Clinton has a lot of explaining to do. I don't think Obama would ask her to leave as much as letting the Senate hearings to it for him, but if he's waiting for that to happen, better luck next time. They won't touch her. She's going to have a free pass. I dislike the fact that they can get away with almost anything.
Today, Sen. Reid just about told Coleman to give up the fight. He hinted very strongly. Sure, if it went the other way would he be advising Franken to do the same? Reid didn't start out too good. To me his speech was caustic, blaming the Repubs for their filibustering. So??? He and Pelosi expect sheep? No one to mention, sorry we just can't afford that boondoggle? I don't know how much I can watch of this. Just think, we pay them to be stupid.
-
Rocky, I feel sorry for people too. And, I feel sorry for my dh and myself. We're in a mess, but not something I want to talk about here.
Rosemary, I saw Reid speak a little and then couldn't listen.
ilj, hmmm...never saw President Bush in swim trunks. I rather like the way he looks. I'm originally from Texas so I like his "twang" too.
-
Shirley,
.. ever saw President Bush in swim trunks. I rather like the way he looks.
You know I think you are onto something. Bush should blame his PR team for this. Perhaps if they got him some shots like Obama's plus Laura would have worn upholstery looking dresses like Michelle they might have been liked better by the left crowd.
-
Ok. Here is my theory on Obama's securtiy nomination. As I recall he originally planned to nominate another person who was actually qualified for the job, but was rejected by the left for his association with Bush administration, So let's say he goes ahead nominating Panetta knowing full well that he is not qualified and most likely would be rejected by the Senate intelligence comittee headed by Feinstein. Then Obama would tell his supporters on the left, "You see I tried. ".The left will belame evil Republicans and sellout Democrats. And then they can nominate the current Deputy Chief supported by Feinstein and other senior members.
The fact that Obama did not even discuss this nomination with Feinstien is very suspicious.
-
I am reading this really funny book called, "The Darwin Awards. Commemorating individuals who improve our gene pool by removing themselves from it."
It is stories about really stupid people who get themselves killed doing idiotic things, like the couple who thought it would be exciting to do in the middle of the road, until they got run over by a bus. With today's political climate, I thought this quote from the book was fitting:
"We are all born ignorant, but one must work hard to remain stupid." Ben Franklin
