Dream, I LOVE making costumes!! Can't wait to see pix of how your new sewing projects turn out.
Tina, I'm ready, girlfriend. We'll talk...
-
My girls are active in something called LARPing. Live Action Role Playing. So they are different characters. My youngest is a zoologist who thinks she is a pixie. Hence the costume.. it is going to be really gorgeous. As for my black and white, the top does not fit so I believe it is going to be become a full length skirt.... cause I can do that. I have not touched the calla lily material but the inside of the shopping bag is red glitter.... and that leaves the red leather which is apparently also a costume but can double for an interview outfit if she should ever get an interview for a job. I cannot believe I am posting on the fashion thread.
Pepi is Pepi Susan (Buchalter) Lucas. No other name. Sorry.
I have been promised pix so I will email to Saint and she will post....

I wondered if anyone happened to have caught this on tv or heard of it before: http://thefashioncode.com/
I'm really intrigued. Some of what they say is pretty much the same thing you'll see on WNTW. Just curious. Thoughts, anyone?
-
I am a very loyal WNTW fan and when I finally started dressing by the "rules" I had people falling all over themselves to tell me how great I looked. I even had some say "Wow, you've lost a TON of weight"! hehehehehe Just how bad did I look before!? At 51, I've had people guess my age in the 30's and I am a larger size as well 14-16.
-
HaHa! Same here Barbe. There are probably only two things I still wear that would be against the rules. 1) Some days are just meant for jeans, tee shirts and tennis shoes, and 2) Capris. I live in AZ and they just work way too well to give up on those 110 + days. But even those when paired with a top that follows the rules look nice.
What's interesting about the Fashion Code is that it tells you how to taylor all of your clothing to YOU. So, weight gain and loss are not a factor. It's 10 bucks to buy the code, I havent done it yet, but I'm really tempted. The people on tv all had their same outfits on, but altered to fit the code and the changes were simply unbelieveable!
-
Oh, that looks interesting. I'll have to mosey over and see that. Of course, not having cable TV, I could never watch the show. Thanks for the link.
Edited to say I just peeked at the link. Great examples. I never, never, never wear skirts below my knees and certainly never wear long length skirts. Frump from the word go.
Oh, I just remembered I bought that 50's sundress! I wonder if it's frumpy as long as I don't wear it with flats? Must wear high heeled platform sandals. Still haven't found any I like. I saw that payless had a cute paid so must investigate.
Off to sewing class.
-
This code is interesting. It looks as though they tailored the clothing to fit the ladies - before their clothing was way too big and frumped up.
And these rules? Oh geez, I've never heard of them. Jean and capris are against the rules Commando? I love capris and I think you can make them look cute. And jeans? Today I have a pair of tight dark wash jeans, long length with high healed black wedges (the ones a few pages back) and a white tuxedo blouse with a thin black belt. I think it looks nice, but I've never checked out these rules. Interesting. Are these rules on the show WNTW?
Now, I do wear long skirts. I have this great long almost bohemian? looking skirt with beading that I wear with a tight black shirt and boots. Not frumpy at all!
Tina - what sundress? The red one? I forget. What about the wedges that I have? They are so comfortable, three inches high, but they have a T-strap (one of your don't wants). But oh so cute.
-
Both dresses I am making are to the ankle.... and they are the least frumpy things I (will) own. The black and white one will be done in a couple of days. The pink-to-red one will take longer.
-
Pictures to follow....

Pictures!
Promise?

Okay, I visited that Fashion Code site and found a couple interesting things. One is that one of the models (the trench coat) goes to "skinny jeans" for her after shot. That's cheating! Also, you'll notice all the after shots are using high heels, even the boots!
It seems in this case less truly is more. Shorter sleeves, lower necklines, shorter jackets, shorter skirts, narrower skirts. The more skin showing, the thinner you look. I do know for a fact that I always look better in a sweater with 3/4 sleeves, BUT, if I do too short of an arm, I've lost all proportion. So how can they have a "code" that works universally for everyone?
-
Oh, Raye, you could never be frumpy!!! Not with your height and figure. OTOH, *I* can look very frumpy in anything with too much fabric. Short people have to be very careful about the amount of cloth they are wearing. Take it from me, the 80's oversize thing was not a good look for me. LOL OMG talk about ridiculous.
Now, I am all for the short length skirts as long as they don't show excess fat or your behind. If you have chubby legs, maybe just at the mid-knee is good. And, shorter rather than longer jackets are much more flattering to my type.
I took a look at the payless site and they have just the shoes for me marked down to $9.99 only not in my size: 7. They do have size 7.5 so I think I may take a flyer and order them.
barbe, I'm with you. No universal code can work for everyone but they DO have to have a hook of a headline to suck you in, right?
-
I will catch up on the two pages I've missed if I have time at work later, but I NEED A FAVOR.
can you guys click this link and vote for me?

Hi there!
Beth - I voted a couple of times before it told me I had to wait 23 hrs. You were at 18. Whoo Hoo! Good luck!
Tina - I'm jealous. I need to take a sewing class. I actually do machine embroidery, but am challenged by hemming.
Raye - I mean the rules Stacy and Clinton give people built like me. I'm on the short side, so a longer, loose fitting Capri makes me look short / fat. As for the jeans, I live in them too. On WNTW tho, they tend to frown on jeans, tees & sneakers; but dark wash with a nice blouse and shoes are always good. I'm just saying those might be rules, but I'm not always so good at stickin' to ‘em.
Barbe - They actually talked about the heel when they were on TV. On some people they even just added an inch. But the code isn't universal. It's all based on an individual's measurements. If you've ever heard of the "divine equation" or "golden ratio," (http://www.layersmagazine.com/the-divine-proportion.html) it's based on that. Supposedly Da Vinci painted Mona Lisa using the divine equation. It's a theory that's been around forever. So, what these two women did was figure out a way to use the equation based on an individuals height, shoulder width, and something else that I cant remember right now. Anyway, they basically just recommend tailoring clothing, or purchasing items that hit you where the code says is most flattering, to minimize "problem areas." The people they pulled out of the audience and tailored really looked amazing.
Anyway, I don't know if I want to spend the 10 bucks. It looks interesting tho and just wondered if anyone else had heard of it. If I decide to do it, I'll keep ya posted.
Gonna go vote again. See ya soon! -
OMG! My shoulders are SO wide I had to get a uniform jacket custom made once! I look best in really, really tall shoes, but I just can`t wear them on a regular basis....
