Guess where that brings me? To the beach of course!!!

Catching up & glad to hear that you are safe from the unseasonable weather shennanigans, all.

My SIL Scott, daddy to these three Buckeye grandkiddos is in the Ohio National Air Guard. He is a pilot. He helps fly the HUGE, massive large cargo type planes. He had been the 'boom' pilot to refuel planes mid-air, before going back for additional training.

My SIL Zac, new hubby to DD2 (the newer newly-weds) is in the Navy, stationed in Annapolis and his regular assignment is to play the trombone in the ceremonial Navy band -- which is a full time assignment, but truly as "safe" as one can be.

Scott is the one who gets assigned 'away' on these numerous trips. There have been times when his unit has flown the wounded to safety and better medical care, but he's just in charge of the plane -- not the patients. This is his first 'assignment' to Iraq. I attempt not to know too much about what/where/when etc etc.

Enough about that!

Friday is here in full force and I think it's time for some levity.

I bought MissyTwizee a little day-glow-green grass skirt that has been the hit of our time together. It is equally as thrilling worn on one's head -- a la clown wig.

So I'd like to invite our weekend dancers to warm up.

She does love polka dots. Seriously.

She ALWAYS chooses polka dots when it's an option.

Which of course I think is so funny!!!!

She used to call them "spinkles". Her sheets are polka dots & so are her curtains.

I wish you could hear her teenie-tiny, whittle voice say, "polka dots." (poo-ka-bots)

She is still so itty-bitty, not yet in the 1 percentile club..... so whatever she says seems so mature from her bitty self -- though she's nearing three!! Well, they are nearing three. Her twinzee guy is 100% football player, tackle 24/7 and quite the jester.

I don't know if any of you Beachettes ever visit the poetry thread, but I just posted one and copied the post for you guys. I wrote it this evening, and it was inspired by last night's fierce winter storm here in Tennessee. It is also about surviving adversity. Love to you all.

The Living Tree

Fierce winds blow

Blustering howls into the night

My destructive foe

Tries to uproot me from my great height

The forces come upon me

The cyclone twists and comes near

My branches may break

But I am not broken with fear

For my roots have grown deep

So deep, far, and wide

That I am not root-bound

Though I have nowhere to hide

Standing strong and still must endure

I am sustained with faith and abide

For living water my roots have procured

For the earth was soaked by the river I cried

My roots are now deep

So deep, far, and wide

That I'll survive winter

And in spring bloom with pride

We went to Oahu and Pearl Harbor 5 years ago a inspiring experience.  this trip was 10 days to Kauai where we walked swam and relaxed everday.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend, had a great trip but work is swamped so back to reality but oh so nice to come to the Beach, will try to hang around in my flip flops a little more often!!

Carollynn, I absolutely love Kauai, everything about it. Thanks for sharing. I visited a tropical garden there that had peacocks everywhere, just roaming freely. We were allowed to gather peacock feathers that we found and take them home. I don't remember the name of it. Was that where you were?

we have ice plant yuck..I am also remembering when I was a lifeguard. We

had no huts..lots of sunburns as they didn't have sunscreen in the 1950s

Thanks, Lisa! You were a lifeguard? That's so cool! Do you have any life saving stories? I actually like all the ice plants along the coast. They bloom such a brilliant violet. There is an oceanside garden with drought resistant flowers at Del Mar beach that I loved so much. It is set on a cliff, and you get to it by a little gate right by the children's play area. Have you ever been there?

SoCal they plant the sea oats to keep the erosion down. Long time ago... before they did it at most of the beaches... I used to pick it  It's now endangered.

Lisa, you have shared pics of some of my favorite spots most dear to my memories. I used to run by the railroad tracks. In your first pic, you can even see part of the track (left side) with grey gravel next to it. It was heaven. The second pic in the distance is Del Mar Dog Beach  (the happiest canine place on earth), and the far away cliff has a lookout bench that I used to hike up and sit with my multi million dollar view for free. We also watched the fireworks from Del Mar Fairgrounds across the street from the beach every 4th of July. Thank you so much for sharing them!

Lisa, how have I given you the urge to travel?  just curious.  The places I takes pics of are all easily accessable and 99.9% of them are in South Australia where I live.  Where I go, so goes my camera.  I learned a long time ago, that, I would invariably see something worth snapping and wouldn't have the where with all to make the memory.  I now have passed up my large camera because it is too heavy to cart around and I treated myself to a compact digital about three years ago.  I just love it, but I still miss the perfection of my old one.  Your flower pics have taught me a new way of photographing things and manipulating light......I just love it!

Lisa, thanks! Those are the tracks that brought me a lot of joy. I would start off at Torrey Pines Beach, where you can access the cliff, and then run to Del Mar's Park on the cliff. When I was feeling strong, I would then continue on the sand of Del Mar, and then hike up to my perch on the cliff above Dog Beach.

I would have days where I could see pods of dolphins playing in the water. Occasionally, I would see the blowhole spray of a whale. It was so beautiful. I didn't ever bring my camera on those runs, just my car key strapped to my shoe lace. So, thank you for a pic of those tracks!
