Ladies -
I just ordered the Smashbox Photofinish through Sephora - cannot wait to get it. I ordered the "clear" - didn't realize it came in so many colors! I hope I made the right color choice. Looking in the mirror today, I see my powder (I use Lancome's Dual Finish in Matte Amande III) creasing under my eyes, making me look ancient, prompting me to place my order for the Photofinish.
I am thinking of going to Florida for a little mini-vaca and was thinking of a bikini wax (not a Brazilian). How painful is this? I don't want to worry about all that shaving and missing areas that I don't see until I'm on the beach in the bright sunlight.

-
Hillary - I love your avatar!! You look so joyous and fun.
Raye
-
Tina! i am sorry. I forgot to mention congrats on making your decision on having the free TRAM!
-
Tina, "onward and upward" ... LOL yes, hopefully those boobies will be upward!
-
I just waxed...very hard to do with a growing belly..it was like gymnastics....but I am proud of my pain tolerance...and then I walk out real quick to grab a paper towel and my husband goes..umm what is that blue wax doing on your ass cheek? I guess I sat in some...lol
-
A pointer from a minimal makeup person: "Almost Makeup" by Clinique. The person at the counter will help you chose the right color. It has sunscreen and evens out your skin tone.
-
Raye99:
I get bikini waxes and I don't find them that painful. Some women it does bothers. So just like chemo, I guess everybody is different. I've decided to go on-line and get my own waxing kit and do it myself from here on out to save money. I bet once you start waxing, you won't go back to not waxing. It feels real fresh and clean. LOL
-
LMAO at the blue wax on your butt...
-
Emelee - haha. That must have been a site, you waxing with your baby belly!
Yes, I want fresh and clean - and no worries about strays. How does it feel growing back?
This conversation is apropos of the day!
-
Okay, I was wrong about the Chanel foundation. It is the Teint Fluide Universel and, damn, it's been discontinued! This has happened to me before with their Aqua Blush. So annoying. Anyway, they do have the same shade in their other foundations, including Pro Lumiere. It's the Voile or Soft Bisque.
Marin, the cotton gloves at CVS are in the aisle with the gauze bandages, NexCare stuff, etc.
How many times did you chemo girls lose your eyelashes? Mine are just growing in for the THIRD time. Do I have this indignity to look forward to again?
Oh, and thanks for the encouragement on the free TRAM decision. I'm scared to death. Think I'll post over on the recon. board.
Tina
-
Tina,
Are you ER or PR+?
I ask this because I am triple neg, so I do not take Tamox, etc. I only lost my eyelashes once, when I finished Taxol. I feared I would lose them again and again - everyone was warning me; but it's been almost 14 mos and they've stayed (knock on wood big time here). My theory is that because triple negs don't take the estrogen suppressant meds, we don't lose them again. Could be a total bs theory, we just might all be different.
-
Raye, I am weakly PR+ but not enough to warrant taking anti-hormonals because of the bone destroying side effects. So, I'm on nothing but love.

My chemo was 4DD A/C only, no taxanes.
Tina
-
You sure are! ha. High on luvvv.
hmmm, I guess we are all just different. I had A/C and Taxol and Taxol seemed to have caused my lash and brow loss. I am at a loss
. I hope once these lashes grow in, they will stay, Tina. -
Oh, forgot to mention that I went looking for that collagen filler that Rocktober mentioned. Well, I went to CVS and found it at 19.99 and the CVS brand at 14.99. Bought the CVS, with some hesitation, as I don't normally like store brands.
Well, I've used it for two days/nights on those tiny forehead lines and it really does seem to work! The lines are still there, of course, but look softer. The brow furrows still need work.

Just back from my local RiteAid and couldn't find Rimmel white eyeliner. I found two white eye pencils -- Jane and NYC -- and bought them both. I'll let you all know how they work!
As for eyelashes, I'm like Raye ... lost them all once only (finished chemo in May 07). I've got through two periods where I've lost a lot of lashes, but enough new ones had already grown in that it was barely noticeable. I also hope I'm through the worst!
Hillary -
Hillary, the Jane, and NYC liners sometimes break easily, and so do the caps. Don't over sharpen them. If they don't work, you can find the rimmel in Target for $3.
Tina, um, hello? You're talking to the reconstruction queen. One phone call from me, and I will get you so prepped, you'll feel great.
All I ask is that you grab a pen and a pad, and find like an hour of free time to talk, but I'd be more than glad to call you, and ease any fears, and help get the house set up etc...
-
Tina - That's great! I'm sure you'll be very happy with the results. You're brave...I'm still too chicken to even think about it! Thanks...I'm glad you checked out the site. For some reason, I can always come up with product/design ideas! It's a lot of fun!
Raye - Of course...I chose a very flattering photo for my avatar. I don't look as young in person. I'm going to be 48 on March 5th!

OMG - Blue wax on the a**! Too funny! The first time I did a b-wax at home, I had a huge chunk that I couldn't get off...down under! I freaked out thinking that I may have to go to the ER!
LOL But now that I'm used to it...no problem. In fact, I'm leaving for MX on the 23rd for 8 days...gotta get that wax out. As for pain...at first it was painful, but not any more.
Raye - The hair grows in very slowly...so gradually you hardly notice it at first (unlike after shaving) - atleast that's how mine is.
After chemo I crossed my fingers...hoping that would be the section that DIDN'T grow back.
Marin - The injections did not work for me! Wrinkle's still there. Now I'm questioning their technique/ability. Hmmmmm... I am stopping in there tomorrow to ask about it. If it didn't work in my chin...I'm reluctant to let them do the spot between my eyes.

-
All fillers and injections don't work for everyone. It's the same with fat injections in breast reconstruction for revisions. Sometimes, it just doesn't take.
I've had radiesse injections in my nipple to beef it up, but it didn't really do the job. My PS has mastered this new nipple technique that he thought up, and I saw a few of his patients last week, and I couldn't believe their nipples. I looked at him, and I was like, Um, I want a do over. I told him I want LIPO too. A little on one hip, and I really want some of my back done. You know that roll that comes under the bra line?
Yes, I took the right step (finally) to get back in the gym, but still, I'm all for LIPO right about now.
-
it ended up the bare minerals makeup does not agree with my skin. before the end of the workday yesterday, i had to go into the bathroom and use public bathroom soap to wash my face. the makeup felt heavy, itchy and my skin started to break out.
i sure love the way it looks...but not the way it feels; admittedly, i have real sensitive skin.
my sister loves it and it appears dotti does too.
-
Tina - with you being so high on the luv, why are your brows furrowed darlin?
Hillary - I like the Loreal Kohl eyeliner pencils myself. I use dark brown (cocoa or something like that). Sometimes I'll put some liquid eyeliner on top of that if I'm feeling I need a little more darkness.
Laura! 48! That is not old by any means, but you look soo young. I am not going to do my first wax at home - I'd probably take something important off. Maybe my 2nd.
Beth - if I ever decide to get recon, you'd be the first person on my list I'd want to talk to!!!!
gsg - sorry to hear the Bare Minerals didn't work out. Maybe Clarin's? That line is supposed to be good and natural, I do believe.
-
gsg - You can return it...I've used the Maybelline mineral powder and it works well.
Raye - OMG - I am crying laughing! "I'd probably take something important off". LOL I think it's a good idea to have it done prof the first time. Like I posted earlier, the first time I did mine...I FREAKED OUT! Honestly...a couple of "things" were stuck together and I thought I was going to have to go to the ER and have some "things" amputated! LOL OMG
I have found that vitamin E oil works great when applied afterward.
-
ha Laura. OMG - I know it!! Stuck together - haa. That would scare me to death. Not to mention it's so hard to see what is going on down there!
-
How embarassing would it be to show up at the ER with this problem! OMG My Mom was an ER nurse for 28 years and she said they actually had a dude show up with batteries stuck up his a**. My first question was: "what size batteries, Mom, were they D, DD, C, AA, or A". LOL Yikes!
-
Well, I came on here to thank all of you who recommended Poetry Wax from Sephora and I see that the topic is appropos! This was the first time I've tried waxing in forever and I was sure it would be torturous, but compared to laser, it was a complete breeze! In fact, I started getting obsessed and started slapping the stuff on everywhere. I finally had to stop wen I realized it was 10pm and I still needed to do all of my laundry, give myself a pedicure and eat some freakin' dinner. Time flies when you're having fun, huh?
Guess I'm all set for my weekend with J!~Marin
-
I'm so glad you like it! It's the BEST!
I just used it - took 15 minutes..no pain and no bruising..although check your butt to make sure you didn't sit in it

I also get caught up and lose track of time...I'd love to try my legs..we'll see.

I love the mineral foundation powders. I have not used bare minerals, but L'oreal, physician's formula, neutrogena and "jane". I find the best coverage with L'oreal and the Jane foundation seems to have a brightener or something in it that really perks up my skin tone. Neutrogena's mineral blush is great. I use the brush that comes with the foundation to apply it. When I have added blush and highlighting powders, I take another brush I have and kind of "buff" it all out. The all-over face brush I have was actually a dollar store purchase. It is intended for travel and has a lid. There is a sleeve that slides down over the bristles of the brush so you can get the lid on. I push the sleeve down close to the end of the brush to make the bristles dense and more stiff in order to buff out the mineral makeup/blush. I finish it all with a light misting of witch hazel and rosewater. I have also discovered that it is easy to get too much of the mineral foundation on and then it will look cakey. I usually start with a very, very light layer in the areas that need the most coverage and then add a tiny bit more over my entire face. It is extremely important that your moisturizer has "soaked in" and that you tap the applicator brush several times. I tap mine almost to the point that it looks like there is no makeup on it. People often comment on how healthy and good my skin looks. If they only knew what it looks like under that miraculous mineral makeup!
I have a question. If you only wanted to spend, say $20 or so to get a good sampling of the eyes, lips, face cosmetics and tools, what would you get? My skin is dry and I have trouble keeping lipsticks on. My eyes are my best feature, but my contacts seem to prohibit the usage of many cosmetics. Are the ELF products good with contacts?
Thanks!
-
OK, dumb question about using the white eyeliner .... by inside edge of the lower lids, do you mean inside as in closer to the nose or inside as in between the lower eyelashes and the eyeball. If it is the latter, how do you get the white eyeliner not to make your lower eyelashes white?
Thanks!
-- Hillary
P.S. I tried some of the ELF products -- they were so cheap -- but found them to be icky. I think it's worth it to spend a bit more for better products. My local RiteAid often has sales on the basic cosmetics, so you can get things for a couple of dollars, especially when combined with coupons. -
yes- in between the eyeball and the lid. And avoiding the bottom lashes is tricky, but doable.
I put mascara very lightly on the bottom lashes, so it goes right on top of the white if I get it on the lower lash line.
If you don't like the look of heavy black mascara, try a light brown shade, thoroughly wipe the wand when you pull it out of the mascara tube, and just do one to two light strokes over the lower lashes, to take off the white spots.
Also, if you get mascara on your eye lid or face when applying it, taking a q-tip (and I know this sounds gross but it works better then water) you stick the q-tip in your mouth (hopefully you just brushed) and there's something about saliva that takes the mascara right off where it doesn't belong.
-
I never have trouble getting the white liner on my lower lashes because I pull the lid down in order to get more of it covered (maybe this is why I have huge bags under my eyes?
). As for getting mascar off, whether it's on the lower lid or I stabbed myself somewhere inappropriate
with the wand, I dip a Q-tip in liquid eye makeup remover (I use Neutrogen or Lumene, whichever is on sale at CVS) and it comes off and conditions the skin as well.I have a question for you more frugal posters (after I went out and spent freakin' $50 on Poetry Wax - but I love it, as above!).....My skin really sucks. It looks tired and splotchy and almost grey, so I know I need to exfoliate it or perk it up significantly. I absolutely cannot afford to go for a facial or even to drop $100 on a microdermabrasion kit. Does anyone have any "natural" or inexpensive suggestions? I exercise tons, eat really well, but don't get nearly enough sleep, so I know that's the first thing I can address. Any other ideas?

Oh, saliva works great on a mosquito bite, too, when nothing else is handy. My old grandmother taught me that. Saliva and a little bit of salt rubbed in is even better.
Raye, the furrows are from old age.
