Trying hard to lose the pounds!!!!!!!!!

I've never seen Stacey and Clinton recommend flat shoes!
On the plane I saw a British show - 'What Not to Wear'. Suzanne and Trini are the hostesses. They had sisters turn each other in!
Have you tried jjill for pants? They aren't so low rise.
I think people get used to high heels and then they can wear them all the time. Not me! -
Rose,
I've not seen that brand--where can you buy them? -
They're around. I've been to one in Kansas City so they are national. Try www.jjill.com.
I'm not totally keen on buying things mail order when I haven't tried them on, but maybe it'll generate some ideas. I look at the catalog more than I buy things from there -- but they are very diligent about sending me a catalog!
My other favorites for pants sized for real people are eddiebauer.com and llbean.com. I am short so I like places where they have several inseams.
LLBean has some duct tape decorated with fish that I'm thinking about sending to our New England relatives. -
My sickness of a couple of weeks ago has held! The weight's still off and some more has also dropped. Hoping to keep it up, but...
Now companies are starting to bring in the Christmas goodies; it'll be hard to stick to my radishes, celery and carrots! Party tomorrow night too!
I managed to find some cords that work; just in time, really cold around here now. -
Fashion update - wore the new boots to DHs Chrisymas party tonight and DID NOT break a heel!!!
-
Kari - Did anybody remark on how tall you are?
Ginger - For me the thing is: do you like the goodies? Gift baskets usually have totally tempting things (often not enough quantity of these) and things that could sit on the shelf forever. Be sure the later sits on the shelf and not in your mouth!
If it's sweet and chocolate them I'm a goner. -
Hi to Beach Cottage,
Congratulations on deciding to control your weight...are you taking Tamifoxen? Estrogen will make you gain weight, so will antidepressants like Zoloft. But there are alternatives, for ex, Prozac makes you lose, and I've heard Arimidex is good for weight loss...and you can exercise.
But eater fewer carbs can help a lot. I was plump when I was a preteen, and have been working long and hard against the battle of pounds...with success! I was involved in a study in college where I working with a pyschologist who was studying the etiology of hunger, and he found it was strongly linked to eating carbs. Rats fed a pure protein diet ate a lot less than rats eating a pure carb diet. So I've used this info on myself--if you cut out all bread, rice, potatoes (everything white) and just eat meats, vegies, fruits you'll be miserable for a couple of days, but then your hunger will vanish and you can lose weight as long as you don't break your diet and upset the body chemistry. I eat some carbs: Swedish high fiber crackers instead of bread, and old fashioned oatmeal for breakfast, and they don't seem to interfere with maintaining good blood sugar. Most high fiber carbs seem to be good carbs.
Exercise is very, very important. Have you noticed how people and pets age? They just kind of fade...it's because their blood isn't circulating, they're less active, they're losing energy, they're minds aren't working as well, and I could go on and on. When you exercise and get your blood pumping you correct all that...and you feel more alive! It's a great antidepressant. Exercise and strength training.
Have you tried Curves?
Good luck and god bless. 12 pounds is a great start! -
I agree on passing on caloric/fat treats you're not wild about. We got a tin with all kinds of Hershey's candies in it on Friday and that's tough for me--I have a chocolate weakness too. Somehow staying with the dark chocolate doesn't make me feel less guilty!
-
HI
I have gained 20 lbs since I have been on chemo. NOT working since JUNE didnt help either. I am now going back to work part time after New Yr.....hopefully lost all 20 lbs again, lol. I wish all of you the best for the Holidays and for the NEW YR! -
Individually wrapped candy is easier for me to control. I have a tin of dove chocolate in my desk. I have one each morning, about 9:30. Can you snag a few for your consumption and put the rest out for your parade of patients to eat for you?
I keep the tin in the drawer so I don't see it otherwise. There are mice in our building so if you keep food in your office you need to keep it in a tin or you might have a surprise you aren't happy about!
I find it helps me to know that one is OK.
I find being at work keeps me on my plan. I pack lunch (keep it in a zipped bag because of above mentioned critter issues), and that's what I eat for the day. -
The candy, etc., is for staff, employees. There's one I can count on to help out with the goodies big time! Can't put it out for patients, many of whom are diabetic or have chol and weight problems!
Keeping busy is a good distraction. I have a half of banana, left over from breakfast, about 10 am. Keeping busy works on keeping the metabolism up and staying away from the goodies. -
Better snacks help. Keeping an eye on your fiber intake is also useful because most tempting things don't have any at all. You can mentally disqualify them as possible snacks.
People leave goodies in the xerox room this time of year and I try to stay out of there. -
The cookies I'm tempted by are in our lunch room which is down the hall--I just have to walk the other way to dh's office frig where the veggies are.

Every since I was diagnosed I have had a very poor appitite, probably due to the stress and was really getting worried about my getting enough protein, etc. I didn't want to do soy supplements because I worry about how soy influences us estrogene positive gals, so I opted for a Whey isolate mix which actually has almost no taste so it can be mixed with anything. Even in high stress situations in my life in the past when I wasn't eating well I didn't lose much weight, but since I have been doing the Whey stuff I have lost 15 pounds (which I needed to do). The Whey seems to provide me with a go deal of energy and seems to be very easy to digest. One scoop of the stuff provides 40% of minimum daily amount of protein.
I did a google search to see if there would be any possible reason breast cancer patients should not take it and could find none. In fact, there were some references that Whey might actually help shrink some breast cancer tumors. Don't know if that has any basis in reality, but it doesn't really matter, because that is not why I am drinking it. -
Imagine the day we can just change out the type of bacteria in our guts and lose weight? I hope that day comes soon:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061220/ap_on_he_me/diet_obesity_microbes
"In one of the two studies in Nature, Gordon and colleagues looked at what happened in mice with changes in bacteria level. When lean mice with no germs in their guts had larger ratios of Firmicutes transplanted, they got "twice as fat" and took in more calories from the same amount of food than mice with the more normal bacteria ratio, said Washington University microbiology instructor Ruth Ley, a study co-author.
It was as if one group got far more calories from the same bowl of Cheerios than the other, Gordon said.
In a study of dozen dieting people, the results also were dramatic.
Before dieting, about 3 percent of the gut bacteria in the obese participants was Bacteroidetes. But after dieting, the now normal-sized people had much higher levels of Bacteroidetes close to 15 percent, Gordon said."
Sign me up.

Finally went back to WW. I took a month off because of my surgery although I really could have gone back 2 weeks ago.
Have been pigging out but only gained back 3 pounds.
But I am still not allowed to exercise for another three weeks because of my recent exchange to implant.
And my friend who goes with me has actually lost another 3 pounds so she is ahead of me.
Which means that it is time to get serious....maybe tomorrow ! -
I have to say I struggled with my weight all my life! I could look at food in another room and gain weight from looking. In Feb I decided I wanted to lose weight, so I started walking 4 to 5 times a week, and had gotten up to almost 3 miles on my walks with my two dogs (that in itself is a workout), I was dx with bone mets in July and started arimidex, since arimidex I have been losing alot of weight without even trying. I have lost over 80 lbs in total now and it is still dropping! I am going to be so excited when I hit my goal weight. It sucks to lose weight this way, but I will take it any way I can get it!

I used to work out in a gym. After BC I joined Curves and love it, but now find that it is difficult to go after work. In January, 2007 I am going to try going at lunch time since it is ONLY for 30 minutes and I work about 7-10 mins from work. That still will give me time to clean up with those nice wipes, towels and shower gels they provide. I am looking forward to January.
I was working out there and dieting 1200 calories a day (B4 Holiday time and parties)and lost 15 pounds, dropped 2 sizes and quite a bit of abdomen), now I am afraid to go and get measured. I gained all the weight back and wear size 12 again. Want to lose B4 Hawaii trip in April, 2007. Any ideas or suggestions ladies would be GREATLY appreciated.
Love and Luck to all of you. This is a GREAT thread. I am going to add it to my favorites NOW!

Thank you Hilde for the info on Smiley download. I just did it and it is so cute. I added this thread too to my favorites just a few days ago.

After New Year's I will be hitting the 1200 Calorie a day thing again. I did so well on it too until Hubby's and my Las Vegas trip in October. We discovered you can get excellent "full" meal steak dinners 16 oz Porterhouse for ONLY $9.95 24 hours if you want. From then on it just took off.
Happy New Year to all of you and good luck with the weight control in 2007!

For me, everything changes with the holiday rush and stress--just don't seem to be able to pass on the food, and time for the gym can get squeezed out. But Jan. 2 is coming and company will be gone. I'll be back to every day exercise and eating lighter! The holidays take a toll.
Today's paper is filled with ads to join health clubs. We notice about a 2-month increase in busy-ness at ours -- Jan. and Feb. Either people reach their goal more quickly than I do or they fall back on a resolution! Good luck to all! -
I have 'company' until mid-January when my son goes back to college. Plus a birthday in early January.
I think any leftover cookies are going out in the new year cleaning, and I"m going to back to my routine at they YMCA. -
I've done terrible the last few weeks. No exercise with all of the hustle and bustle. Just too busy. I havn't worked out in about 3 weeks now. Just when I was starting to get back into it. I go to vegas in 2 weeks. I am 10 pounds short of my goal for vegas. Hope to get back on the wagon the 2nd, and lose a couple for vegas.
-
Well January 2, 2007 is now here and time to start losing pounds once again. This yoyo dieting is crazy, or better known as the "Prom" diet. You know the type "we" all have done for that "special" occassion.
I wish everyone luck with their "loss of pounds" and if we are all here to coax each other WE CAN AND WILL DO IT!
Happy 2007
Judy -
I'm getting dinners planned out.
If I know what I'm having then I can watch portions more easily, be sure I have a vegetable to go-with, and avoid last minute eating out. -
Hey everyone! Long time no see I know. It is time to get back on track with my fat content of food. So far I am getting thick again around the middle, my exercise is up finally, goats running away tend to make me work harder than I used to.
Rose how are you doing? Thanks for the Christmas card! -
Cowgirl!
I was just thinking about you yesterday and wondering where you have been!!!
good to see you back! -
OK, today will be my last "bad" day, time to get back on track. (Had a taco bell lunch, steak dinner and brahms desert - not going to calculate those points!!!)
I did not make 168 by the end of the year - am up to 172. I'm ready to start cooking again - getting tired of eating out. I have been good about riding the bike so all has not been lost - just decided my pity party deserved good food!! Now I will deserve to eat right and be healthy. -
I guess it's time. We've got a Cowgirl to round us up!
I love taco bell too. -
I lost a lot of weight during chemo last year, but since last spring have slowly but surely regained (I was about 20 lbs overweight to start with, but never worried about it, happily accepted wearing size 16 - I am 5 feet 7). Now I am 30 lbs overweight and very distressed about it - chemo put me into menopause (even though I was 55, still got my period) and I am taking tamoxifen. My weight is all in the middle. I also love sweets (bake weekly!) and find that I eat when stressed.
