kmmd,
N. Meridian road is one of the roads I take to work everyday! I lived on the corner of Williamston and Germany Road in high school and obviously still live in this area. I would love to do the Komen run at the end of April but am not sure of how to sign up or get involved. I'll have to check into it.

Kmmd,
Well, I've signed up for the Komen race in Lansing on April 25th. I'm a team leader and am going to get a team together to walk/run. Let me know if you decide to do the race and maybe we can meet each other that day.
Suzette

I don't know much about the Lansing Komen Race, but alot of us here get together every year and do the Komen Race in Detroit. It is the end of May and we have a blast! Our team "Wings of Hope" will be up and running soon. Our Sweet Sphynx does the organizing for us.....!!

Hi Michigan friends!
Nancy, that is awesome thinking abt a team for spring! I can't wait and know it will be such a super group! Thanks to you,Bonnie,Denise,Sue and everyone! Have my ticket ready and waiting for the snows to be over! Hope things go well for everyone there!
Denise,so very sorry for loss of your mom. She was such a witty and neat lady.
Bonnie,hi to you, family and bet little Zachie is getting tall. Won't be long before he will be taking off running all over the yards...such a cute child!
Best to everyone...hoping those icy, snowy days are soon finished...one can wish, right? We have had two snows,in NC,but nothing like yours. I am sure our four inches would be just like a dusting...ours is still on the ground,in spots, and may melt by June! LOL

Hello Everyone!
I went ahead and set up the Team for 2010. This is Wings of Hope's 5th year, can you believe it?
We will look for Kathy's Klub, Warrior! Look for us also. Wings usually makes a great sign. Kats made a wonderful video and signs in the past.
To join the team:
http://www.karmanos.org/detroitraceforthecure/index.asp
Select the big "Register Now" button
Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the next Register button.
Select "Team Member Registration"
Select 5k walk
NEW THIS YEAR!!!! They have a selection for "M" t-shirts!
Problem: I cannot sign myself up as a team member! This is too funny since it gets stuck in an endless loop of asking for information and signing in - which I already am. I may have to write RaceLadyJan and get back to you.

Iris is our first member of Wings of Hope.
I was able to join the team and update our team website and personal site. If anyone wants help with customizing their site, please let me know. I found tons of pictures with wings. Winged Teddy Bears, Iris.
When you join, if you are doing fundraising, be sure to give your personal website and not the team page. The team page will show all contributions but individuals get freebies for fundraising. No pressure to fund raise, as always.
Team page (I'm still fiddling with this)

I love the pictures on these sites.
Dianne
-
Well - thanks Diane! I'm wondering if the black background is too startling. Don't want anyone to feel like their entering a porn site. Not that I would know about such things.
Warrior - it would be nice if we could meet you and 'Kathy's Klub' at the Race. Our group has lunch at Hockey Town after the race. If that is someone you would want to do, you are welcome to join us.
How about that snow!

Hi girls,
My post just vanished......this laptop is weird I swear! I was typing away and everything vanished except "hi girls"..............ticked me off, I'll be back when the pouting stops!!

,Hey Girls,
See if I wipe this note out like yesterday! Hoping all are well and surviving this winter. Seriously, don't think we can complain to Much compared to the folks on the East Coast.
If I haven't already, sending out a 'welcome' to Dianne, Warrior and Suz. As we always say, "Sorry you had to join us, but glad you found us."
Great on the Site for our team Nancy....you're always on top of things for us! But you know how much we appreciate you!
Had to chuckle though....the only one who has actually signed up is our adopted Michigander from NC! Good job Iris!
I'm signing up when I get back from AZ. HOWEVER, I am not walking unless I lose some major weight. SERIOUSLY....I'm so mad at myself for all that I've gained in the past year. Sure wish some of us lived closer and we could start a walking program a couple times a week. This isn't a 'oh she gained 10 pounds' complaint............way more. Maybe putting it in writing will get me moving in the right direction.
Haven't heard anything from Sue or Wendy in a long time. Hoping all is well with you.
I've deleted part of this twice so thinking I will send it off before it takes off on its own!
Denise
-
Denise - You're in AZ?! You probably didn't hear that we are under another foot of snow. I think the East Coast isn't used to all this snow. I've been there when they were paralyzed by a few inches. Lightweights! (No offense to my East Coast friends!
)
I've been hand shoveling my drive and down the block and it's the only exercise I've gotten this winter. I'm all for starting a walking club. Bella was my excuse to walk. With her gone, I've turned into a slug.
Would anyone want to meet even once a week at a central location to walk? Kensington Park has a nice path. Would it be doable when the weather gets nice?
The Wings of Hope team is slow to start when it's hard to imagine walking in this snow. Everyone gets motivated in the Spring.
xxxooo
Nancy
-
I think I can officially join this group now - I finished my chemo treatment this week! I'm so relieved it's over. Kensington is a great place to walk...I'll watch for a date with that! Spring is right around the corner ... so no excuses for us !!

Hello Michiganders,
I just found out about this thread from Faith (she said to name drop and tell you all she said hi). She was telling me about the Detroit Komen 5K and I am interested in walking too. I live in the central Michigan (St. Louis)... anyone near by? I saw that DianneMS is in East Lansing, that is where my PS is and about an hour from me. I had a BMX with TE's and SNB on right side on January 8th of this year, so I am still going through my reconstruction. I have been posting on the Surgery: Before During and After: January Mastectomies a lot since just before my surgery and all of my Team January ladies are awesome, but none from Michigan, so it's kind of nice to see some familiar places. I'll be checking back often to see if anyone is near me!
Paula
-
Hi Paula,
I live in the Lansing Area, a little town called Williamston and work at Michigan State University. Did you go to Sparrow for your surgery? I'm not walking in the Detroit Komen (too far to drive and then do the walk and then drive back home), I'm walking in the Lansing Komen 5K. Glad to meet another person from the mid Michigan area on this board.
Suzette
-
Oh, there is a Lansing Komen 5K? I have just heard about this, I thought the Komen was just the 3-day walk and then someone told me about the Detroit 5K so I thought it was just for there. Have you walked in the Lansing one before? Is it like the Detroit one? That would be alot more convenient for me too... do you have a team or are you walking individually?
I actually had my surgery at Ingham... my BS was Dr. Carol Slomski from the Lansing Breast Care (or something like that) and my PS is Dr. Lee Colony, he is right by Michigan State. I have a cousin that works for Michigan State, but I am not sure what, I know that she used to work for a bank and then switched to MSU, I'll find out where, maybe you know her. Kellie Neal? Anyway, it is nice to meet someone else from Mid MI!
Paula
-
Carol was my surgeon too. I haven't decided if I'm going to have reconstruction yet so haven't even talked with a PS. I do have a team walking on April 25th in the Komen Mid Michigan 5K - it begins and ends at the Capitol. If you're interested in joining me, PM me and I'll give you the details and the link to my team.
Suzette
-
Well, if you decide to go ahead with reconstruction, I have so far loved Dr. Colony, I'll let you know when I'm completely finished! I'll PM you to get those details... Just talked to a couple friends at lunch that I was thinking of doing it and they both want to do it too, so might end up with a my own team, but we'll see, would still like to see your link. Thanks!

Hi everyone,
Saw my name mentioned and I know, I haven't been on the thread in a while. Been quilting and taking care of my rescue kitties. Keeps me busy and out of trouble. Haven't signed up for the 5K yet but intend to do so. Rick & I were in NYC last weekend to see David perform at Lincoln Center and if I can do all the walking I did there, the 5K should be NO problem. I will admit that my shins HURT SO BAD on Sunday when I started walking outside of the hotel room. You know, that "I've got somewhere to be" walk? Oh my, it wasn't funny at all. Rick just mentioned this morning that he wondered when the walk was. Don't know if that means he plans on doing it again or not. Hope so, but I think he felt like a fish out of water last year, even though you all made him feel so welcome. We'll see. I think training walks at Kensington sound great. I'll be in whenever I can. I've got to make sure I schedule my back block so I'm at the best point for the 5K though, otherwise it's bad news. Was there ever a "get-together" scheduled? Sorry I missed it if there was and if it still is to come, I would love to try to get there. I miss everyone! Just wanted to check in so I could get the 5K date on the calendar. Take care friends..see you soon.
Wendy
-
Me again, just found out when putting the walk date on calendar that Rick has a meeting scheduled for that day so he will not be able to walk with us. Bummer. I am willing to drive if you want to carpool again. I can take 6 people. Just let me know. Take care and enjoy this beautiful weather.
Wendy

Hi all!
I escaped to Sunny AZ and it rained all day yesterday! Chilly today but atleast the sun is out! Atleast I get to see my little GD!!
Hey Nancy.............count me in for the walking. I'm finding it harder and harder to make my size 8 feet carry this body around......We'll talk when I get home!
Thanks for checking in Wendy, I know none of us come here often, but I didn't remember seeing any posts from you in quite a while.....................What, Rick didn't enjoy being trapped in a van with half a dozen, hormone deprived women!!!!
Now I'm looking for Sue.................anyone heard from her? Guess she doesn't know that WE WILL come looking for anyone who is MIA for long!
Saying Hi to all...
Denise
-
HELLO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Did everyone leave Michigan and forget to take me???? Hoping everyone is doing good..............thinking it's time for a luncheon, any takers?
Denise
-
Okay girls...................Nancy, Irene, Sue....................don't make me call you! I WILL DO IT!!!!
Denise
-
Hi Girls,
A warm welcome to our newbies. I see some of you are in central MI. I am south of you in Hudson. I know most of the girls here are closer to the Detroit area however we do plan some of our get togethers at a central location. The Detroit Komen walk is well worth the drive. Some of us meet the morning of the walk in Livonia or other locations and car pool. We have had families from out of state join us for the walk. In fact Iris from NC will be walking with us this year. I joined the Wings of Hope team 3 years ago and you could not ask for a friendlier, laid back, caring bunch of women.
Warrior - Kathy's Klub - Hope to see your team at the walk we will be cheering for you.
Nancy - Thanks again for being Team Captain............you ROCK! Last year there was some talk of staying in Detroit the night before the walk any thought on this?
Hugs
WingGirl
-
Suzette, I will not be able to walk in the Lansing one but will donate to your team, I would like to try one but am recovering from thyroid surgery. Hope you have a terrific experience.
Carol
-
Okay, okay, Denise! Sorry I haven't checked in, no need to call.
Welcome to all the new Michigan ladies! This is a great group, even though some of us tend to disappear every once in a while.
Denise - how was AZ? Does anyone know how Faith is doing? Anyone heard from Sue?
Nancy - thanks for setting up the team. I'll try to get on there and join some time this week. I'll also be in for packing t-shirts again this year. We need a new rule this time...all cell phones on and either turned up real loud or set on vibrate (Nancy).
I'm definitely up for a lunch. I'm free any weekend except April 17/18.
-
Carol,I hope your recovery goes smoothly and you feel better soon. It would have been great to have you join us but maybe next year. I'll PM the link to you.
Anyone who can't make it to join the Southeast Michigan ladies and is interested in the Lansing/Mid Michigan walk, please let me know.
Hope all of you have a nice weekend - BTW where did our sun and warmth go? I'm not liking this snow on the first full day of spring but it is Michigan after all!
-
I have returned as well. I have been way too busy....
-
suzwes, walking with some family in the Lansing 5-K, maybe we can meet up. Looking right now at the beautiful vase I picked up at the Williamston glassworks shop. I could have taken home half of the store I think. Just gave directions to it to a friend. I told her, hit the glassworks place, head around the corner to the Red Cedar Grill for lunch, then back around the corner and pick up some chocolates for dessert. Also, that new grocery store in Williamston is amazing. What a great town you live in.
