Hi Ladies:-)
What a delightful day getting to know each and everyone of you. I was in awe, frankly that not only have you succeeded in getting through this insidious disease; but managed in spite of it have come through with courage AND manage to find the simplest of joy in your lives.
YOU are all an inspiration!
Michele; just received your directory and (clapping hands) thank you!
Love (that other gal Lorie)..smile -
OMG you guys, I am sorry. I spent yesterday in bed, been sick since Friday...can't even talk today, have laringitis. I will be there next time, though. Sounds like alot of us showed up, sorry I missed it
Hugs
Judy -
Judy:
You poor thing - we missed you. We were looking for you but thought you had really gotten hung up with some family or school things!!! And here you were, sick in bed. Darn, darn, darn!! We did have a nice turnout and hope to do it again April 23rd - hopefully that will be doable for you. Take care of yourself, Judy. Again - we missed you yesterday.
Blessings,
Pat -
Hi all:
First chance to get on the Boards since Saturday. I also had a great time!! It was so nice seeing everyone:The 'starter' group and the new people. It was a good idea to share about ourselves. Michele, thanks for the list of names and e-mails.
Judy: Sorry you were ill. I, as the others thought you were caught up with your daughter's dance. I missed you.
I am looking forward to our next rendezvous: April 23!?! Same place? The little room worked out well. Service was great. The company was super!
Pam -
It was good to see all of you on Saturday...I really enjoyed the visit. And the food was good too.
How about that snow out there? No class for me tonight as the university is closed...yes! -
Awwwww..Judy..I so wanted to meet you; we all just assumed you were helping with your daughter's prom..:-(..We should of at least called you and yelled over the phone "Hi, Sistah"! Seriously, I do hope that you are on the rebound! YOU must come to the next soiree!
Ladies...I need to update our website and was wondering if any of you would have any objection if I were to use you by "first" name only? I always ask before if I am to include anyone in my writings for the updates. I think it is a great vehicle to show how many of us are out there with this disease. (particularly in Michigan)
Anyhoo, I am with you Chris..what is with the snow? Although, I HAVE to work (waaaaaaa).
Have a glorious day everyone,
Lorie -
You can use my first name if you want, it's Shari; I know there's another Michigan Shari, so if you want you can call me Shari L.
-
Ok..Shari L..thank you. I'm going to revise the website probably next week; so anyone who does NOT want there name up there just pm me privately.
Additonally, I forgot ladies..I am having surgery on 4/12 to revise my implants and he said we can do the nipple thingy at the same time. I was pretty sore from the last exchange-so who knows. Then I forgot (geez you would think I'm 100 at times) that my bday is 4/27..Larry may take me up north that previous weekend? Of course that does not stop all you gals getting together...but..but...I had "too" much fun the last time:-)
Anyhoo......just thought I would post this little ditty.
BE good to yourselves today..well actually ALL the time!
Lorie -
My first name is Ann. Good luck on the surgery!
-
Hi Lorie,
Good luck with your surgery. Loved meeting you and all the MI ladies and look forward to another gathering. Thanks for getting us talking about our stories.
Cheers.

Hey, welcome back Kerry, I remember your old screenname. We tried to invite you to some of our get togethers. Maybe you can make the next one...I think they are scheduling it for April. I went to high school with a Tom Delaney when I lived in Plymouth...gosh, that was a long time ago. Do you know him?
Hope everyone is well. I am having lots of problems at my end...my middle daughter needs to undergo some therapy...seems that 'cutting' is a big thing with young girls these days. Ah, more stress.
You guys take care. I'm off school this week, finally feeling better, so maybe I can get something done around here!
Hugs to you all
Judy -
Hope all is well with you Michiganders...we are surviving this cold! It's hard to believe that in a few weeks, it will be Spring. Can' wait to see the flowers!

Hi. This is Shari from Mi. Going for my second treatment on Friday. Nothing happening yet with my hair. Suppose to go tomorrow to get a buzz, but called the place, and she said hold off a day or two, which I will. Anyone else have that happen? Would love to hear from you. Please email me at Shariwest@aol.com

Hi All,
I am from Lansing, MI. Just dx with bc on Feb. 10th. 3.5cm tumor, 50% invasive, nodes -, stageII, gradeII, er/pr +, Hernu - , 36 yrs old. I start chemo on Tuesday. Had lumpectomy on Valentines day. Just got my hair cut really short. I plan to have my husband shave it in a couple weeks. I just don't want to watch it fall out. I want my hair loss to be in my control. Especially since I can't control much these days. Just had a newborn baby girl Feb. 5th so gonna be really crazy around here. Dx when I was pregnant. She is my 3rd and last baby. Just wondering if anyone is from the Lansing area? -
Hey Christie--I'm in Novi. I was diagnosed at 36 also. I am now almost 8 years out. I had Stage IIB invasive lobular, total tumor size approx 9cm. Neg nodes, er/pr+. Went through 4 cycles of A/C, rads, tamoxifen & now femara.
Hugs, Michele -
Hi Christie. I'm glad you found this thread. I am 41, dx 3/04, and live in Garden City. I used to visit friends in Lansing, and if you drive really fast, it only takes one hour to get there!
Maybe you can make one of our get togethers. The ladies here in Michigan are really nice, and get together quite often.
Judy B -
Hi Christie,
Welcome..sorry we have to meet this way. I was dxed last April, IDC Left Breast, DCISRight Breast(comedo type); Bi-lateral masectomies; Still under resconstruction (implant failed); Still in quandary about taking Tamoxifen; No other adjuvant therapy.
Yes, Judy is right please join us on our next meeting! Speaking of which, ladies when is it? I'm having surgery on the 4/12..any ideas??
Hey Judy is your hubby playing tonight anywhere?? Good to see you post, hon. How are things with your daughter? I've been thinking about you.
Happy St Paddies Everyone!
Lorie (Half Irish/Half Swede) :-) -
hi christie,
i was 37 at dx, last may. my son was 9 months and my daughter 3. i also cut my hair really short, it was past my shoulders, then shaved it off when it began to fall out. you sound just like me, wanting to be in control of something. i had bilateral mastectomies and implants. i am very happy with the outcome. i live about an hour away also, in plymouth. hang in there !!
kerry -
Kerry,
Did you test positive for the gene? I have an appointment on monday with a genetic counselor. If I have the gene I think I want a bilateral mastectomy w/ reconstruction and ovaries removed. I wondered if most insurances will cover a bilateral mastectomy even if I don't carry the gene? I wouldn't mind getting a smaller set. This would be my opporturnity to do that. I would like to meet some of you. Please let me know when the next meeting is. -
christie-
hi, no- i did not test positive for BRACA1. My onc said most women do not. yes- your insurance will pay for bilat mastectomies. my plan was also to remove my ovaries if i was pos. when is your surgery and where are you going for treatment. -
Just a hello to Christie, Kerry and Shari (and anyone else I missed) that I haven't met yet. Hope we do have another Mich. group gathering in April so I can meet you. Take care until then.
Molly -
Kerry ,
I had a lumpectomy on Feb. 14th. I have an appt. tomorrow 21st for gene testing. I kinda of want to get a mastectomy so I can get a smaller set. Do you know if they will pay for reconstruction too? I plan to have my ovaries out if I test pos for BRACA. I am having treatment in Lansing. -
yes, it is my understanding that insurance is mandated to cover reconstruction.

I got crazy with the dye today!!! I decided I didn't want to have dark brown hair anymore. I thought I would dye it blonde. Just went to the pharmacy and pick out the boldest blonde bleach. I figured the worst that could happen would be that I would hate it and have to shave my head...lol. Maybe I will go red next week.
-
wow- what happened? did it go blonde?
-
It went Orange... .. got another kit today.. gonna try it again...
-
Hi Shari here from Southfield Michigan. Just finished #3, with 3 more to go. Second one was a bit tougher than #1. Hoping this one is okay (only at day #3), Feel a bit achey today. Not working this week. Not an easy to thing to go through, but I am 1/2 way there. Love my Onc (out of Beaumont), so that's a big, big plus. Would love to hear from you. Shariwest@aol.com

Geez LorieAnne, I hardly ever get to post lately...my school schedule this semester is horrible...I'm there every day, 9 - 3 or 4, then deal with the kids, shopping, homework, cleaning. Yuck. Oh well, only 4 more weeks of this semester left.
I hope we do get together next month. Let's think about a date. In April, we have the following Saturdays available:
2nd: I can't make it
9th: nothing so far
16th: hubby's birthday
23rd: nothing so far
30th: nothing so far
Looks like the 9th, 23rd or the 30th works for me...anyone else have a list of dates that work for them?
Oh, Lorie, if you're having surgery on the 12th, we should do it before then. Or way after...so the 9th or the 30th??? Or maybe in May?
Ok...Nancy, Pat, Pam, Geri, Chris, Candi, Lorie, Michele, Ann, ummmm.... all you newbies Molly, Kerry, Sheri (trying to recall)...anyone I forgot ...let us know if you all want to get together!
Hugs to all
Judy -
Hi there Judy and all:
Regarding April - I have two baby showers for my daughter. One is on April 16th and the other on April 30. I also have an appointment on the 9th - soooooooo, it looks like it would have to be April 23rd for me. Again, with trying to arrange with so many gals, whatever works for the majority should be it. Take care and hope to see you all soon.
Blessings,
Pat
