I see one rectangle that looks like a yellow one I made!
If anyone is stuck on a crochet stitch, crochet veterans have posted tutorials on YouTube. Some of them are even kind enough to take requests! Just type the stitch name (example: double crochet) in the search box. Seeing someone do it is so much easier than trying to read the directions.
If you have trouble finding a stitch on YouTube, PM me, and I'll be glad to do a search for you.

Shelia, I did see the yarn at the Dollar Store. $1.00 a skien is a great price.
Brenda, I am personally making an afghan for Lisa's Mom using my yarn and a pattern from one of my books. I didn't want to use our squares without input from all of you.
Lisa is in the hospital doing chemo this entire week. They are going to schedule the surgery to remove the cancer from her knee/leg. We are praying that they will only have to remove her knee and not her entire leg. My daughter called (crying) over the weekend and said Lisa wanted to get out of her apartment because she was upset....asking "Have I done something wrong to deserve cancer?", "Is God mad at me?"....."Am I a good person?" "Why do my friends treat me differently?" etc. I told my daughter that Lisa just needed to talk to someone, to express her fears and anger and at times like this all she can do is listen and hug her friend.. I wish I could be with these girls, and Lisa's Mom to hug them......
-
oh geesh MADISON, that is so sad about LISA. I pray for her. Great advice to your DD
-
Madison,
I thought it was hard at my age, I can't begin to imagine when it happens to those that are young and are looking forward to marriage, family, etc. We've all cried out "why, God". My heart breaks as I read of her pain and your daughter's pain and being a mother, like you, I understand the heartache Lisa's mom is feeling.
I know you will let Lisa and her mother know we are keeping them in prayer.
The advice you gave your daughter is the best advice. Lisa just needs someone to talk to; that she can say all these things to openly and if your daughter is just there to listen, shed a mutual tear and give her hugs - well, that is the best medicine and hand of friendship that she could offer.
I know it is hard to watch your daughter suffer with her friend, struggling to understand the cruelties of life that are mingled with the joys of life.

madison - feel free to use my squares on any project !

I finished another afghan last night, washed the afghan and now it is in the dryer. I will take a picture and mail this one Friday.
Thank you Jenni.......Lisa is an only child and I can't imagine what her Mom is going through at this time. She is living with Lisa and her husband is in their home state because of his work.
Update on Lisa: She is doing chemo this week in the hospital. The new chemo seems to be working as the tumor has visibly shrunk. Her surgery is scheduled for 3 weeks from now. My daughter is having eye surgery in June and I may be going to the base to be with her. If so, I will see Lisa and her Mom.

I just need to tell you guys that my afghan is still one of my most treasured possessions. When I have a bad day you can always find me curled up in my recliner with my special hugs....

Madison,
It is such a thrill to receive an afghan - can't wait to see who receives this lovely one.
When I get to Pinkstock, I need to be shown how to use the left over yarn - border some squares with it. I think I figured it out but want to make sure it is right before I send any out.
-
Madison,
It's absolutely beautiful. I would like to thank you and everyone on this site for doing such hard work. I'm honored to be a part of it.
Have a great Mother's Day everyone.
Love and hugs, Jackie

HELP
I can’t find the information for our soldier at Walter Reed…..please, if you read this, send me the information.
Thanks bunches, Madison -
I do have a list of other names given to us.
I am back working on the afghans on a regular basis.
When we lost CY, Ferne, and the other ladies in February and March I couldn't pick up a square without crying. I did take a short break to mourn our ladies. -
Beautiful Madison.
I too have been mourning and have found it hard to come onto this site. I am slowly starting to make squares again and will have some to send along soon.
Hugs to all,
Sue

Wanted to let you guys know that the last afghan I mailed out was received by it's recipient, Blessed4. Laura received a PM from her. She is in Hospice care now and our afghan gave her a ray of sunshine.
As Madison said, we couldn't do this without you guys.
Hugs
-
Liz,
Thanks for the news on Blessed4. I have been keeping up with her on the mets thread and we haven't heard anything since she was in hospice. I'm so glad she received a hug-afghan.
Lots of love to all you ladies,
Bren

Stopping in to check on everyone.......Gina, hope to hear from you soon.
I have received squares in the mail (twice) from CY's Mother. I must admit I still cry each time I open her package. CY's Mom's message is to "keep up the good work".
We discussed making CY's Mom an afghan. I want to make her one.
I am asking that all who would like to participate in making this afghan to please send squares. If you don't make squares, you can send a note to my address to include in the afghan package.
Cy is still with me, with us, in our hearts and in our thoughts.
Hugs, Madison
-
Madison,
That is a wonderful idea....do you still have squares from me or do I need to send more??? I have about 30 made but there isnt much variety in colors as I was working with those 1 lb skeins so makes alot....

I haven't checked in on this thread in awhile, but just wanted to tell you how much I love my afghan. I've completed chemo as of April 22nd, and am building up my strength a little bit every day. I've got my exchange surgery on June 6th. Yea, these expanders are like wearing coconuts on my chest.
I've decided after much research not to do radiation or hormone suppression therapy as the small benefit on top of the large benefit I've gotten via bilateral mastectomy and aggressive chemo just doesn't outweigh the risks/side effects in my opinion. I will do an oopherectomy/hysterectomy, as my research shows it to be as effective as suppression therapy, if my period returns or my hormone levels don't decrease enough to make my oncologist smile. So, I'm putting my energy back into establishing my 'new normal'.
I've put everything associated with bc away as I just need a break from everything cancer, but I've kept my afghan out because it means so much to me.
I just wanted to thank you all so much for the wonderful work you do. I know, I haven't posted a pic yet. Life's been really crazy busy with tx 4 and 5 being really hard due to infection complications, but I'm doing well now after last tx, so I'll get on it!!!!

Ladies,
I just got this email from my friend Joanne. Her DH has esophageal (sp) cancer and is in his final stages. Madison sent them the hugaghan a few posts up last Friday. This is what Joanne wrote:
Valerie, Yesterday the mailman rang my bell because he had a big package to deliver. I was so surprised because I was not expecting anything. As I brought the package inside I looked at the return address...it was a name I didn't know and a state in which I didn't know anyone. I opened it to find the most beautiful Afhgan! On top of the Afghan I saw a card...It was a Hugaghan from a breast cancer survivor group. It said you had asked that they send me a hug! Thank you so much Val. I was in tears:) What a wonderful thing these girls do. With George being so cold all the time, this definitely will come in handy. You are a special person for thinking of George and I during this battle.
Love and big big hugs, JoAnn
Thank you all so much, you ladies are amazing!!!
Hugs,
Valerie

Madison - I'll send you something soon. I do have a few afghans ready to go and one almost ready to go. I do plan on bidding on the Relay afghan on Friday. It's very special to me as it has a square in it from CY, her aunt and one from AlaskaDeb in it. It has many others from so many wonderful ladies as well. Hmmm wonder if I'll end up buying it back. We shall see.
Thanks again to everyone and their hard work.
Hugs
Liz
