how about drinking?

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Sunday Funday! Gettingback to my normal sleeping pattern, but did sleep in until 9 ayem. Going to make getting up at 5:30 ayem tomorrow a bit of a chore, I think, but that's ok. Made the apple pancakes again today, now I have to remember to get out to the orchard store and get some more syrup. That stuff is GOOD! Even Sadie liked it when she cleaned off the plate before I put it in the dishwasher. And after I put it in the dishwasher. I had to pull her head out so I could close the dishwasher!
Welcome, Beacht1beach! I've not had the Cinnamon Toast Crunch shot but it sure sounds yummy!
Illi--glad the party bus was fun even if it didn't have fancy drinks. Sounds like the birthday boy was entertaining to watch!
Morning, Karen!
Chi--Happy and Heidi sound like Jack Sprat and his wife, what a job to keep them properly fed!
Jazzy--the spa day sounds like a wonderful treat! The wedding sounds like it was really nice, very family oriented. And your eye surgery recovery seems to be coming along perfectly. Good for you!Sadie does love going in to the nursing home. She gets so much attention, and she is so gentle with people, even when they are a bit rough (not intentionally) with her. When she's had enough she just walks away. She seems to know who really likes a good cuddle and pat session, and who wants a shorter visit. And I just went and checked out her crate and, believe it or not, there are NO utensils in there!Just her pillow and her blanket. I am amazed myself! Have fun with the fam and the balloons!
Cammy Cat--oh, yes, Sadie and slept in very nicely, thank you! She and I aren't going to do too much today, but we are going to putter around a little bit.
Goldie--this particular set of classes is a one time thing. Management recently decided to require all the CNAs to be CPR certified, and I'm working on getting that accomplished by the end of the month. After this push, it will be back to once a month classes, but I will be going in to run some Mock Codes (practice cardiac arrest scenarios) on all 3 shifts and periodically throughout the year as an ongoing thing and will be a lot easier to schedule.
Oh my goodness, that Pecan Pie Martini sounds to delish!! Thanks!!
Goldie--I love that Eeyore story! Thanks for posting it here!

Beautiful morning today for the mass ascension:
-
greetings! I have been out of town doing an Antique Show, lots of work and tiring, but so much fun! Stayed in Calgary and participated in the CIBC run for the cure, met up with great people and learned lots too! My eye is healing nicely and I cansee clearly now 😉😉 drops for another 10 days, then all good.

The reason we wish each other “an easy fast" is that for Yom Kippur we must fast completely—nothing to eat or drink except the water necessary to take our meds—24 hrs., from sunset the night before till sunset the next day when services end. (Unlike Ramadan fasting, when Muslims fast all day but have supper each night). It's tougher than it sounds, especially when one is in services all day on Yom Kippur itself—morning, meditation, afternoon, memorial, concluding. Lot of standing up for prayers. Used to be people carried smelling salts in case someone fainted (which happened a lot in Orthodox synagogues where all prayer was not just done standing but rocking back & forth—pretty exhausting). Now, children, elderly, pregnant & nursing moms are exempt, as are the “infirm." If we're in active adjuvant treatment (chemo, rads, post-op) we're obviously exempt as well—but those of us a few years out and on only endocrine therapy are in sort of a gray area. The Torah & Talmud place the “mitzvah" (commandment) of saving or preserving life above that of ritual observance—in fact, the truly ill or infirm are not allowed to fast. Those of us who can and choose to fast hope that the spirituality of it can bolster endurance—the “easy” part (also “meaningful”) is a wish that we can concentrate on repentance & prayer rather than any hunger—and that the spiritual overcomes hunger.

God Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day! It was chilly this weekend, I even turned on the heat for a little bit.55 degrees in the house is a bit cold even for me and Sadie. Now we're getting up and it's 62 degrees outside. Craziness. But still hoping not to need the heat more than a few minutes at a time until the first of November.
Jazzy--Amazing footage!
Janky--so glad you've been having a good time with the show, and even better that the eye is healing well!
Chi--that is fascinating info, thanks for sharing!
-
Kim, the mock situations, will you have to have some of those on those late night shifts? Hopefully you and Sadie have recovered and can get back to normal sleep pattern.
Janky, hope you made lots of money at the antique show and glad your eye is doing well.
Sandy, thanks for sharing about Yom Kippur.
Speaking of cold, we will be getting down to the high 20's at night later this week. That will def. put an end to my garden! Went to the movies yesterday and out to eat for our 10 year anniversary. Saw the Rambo movie. I had not seen any of those before. It was much like the movie Taken, with Liam Neeson.

I have been busy with work and grandchildren the past few weeks.I had my 2 year old grandson for a few days while his parents were at a conference. That was a bit hectic, getting us both ready in the morning and out the door in time to take him to daycare.I got a bit lazy in the morning since it was just me to get ready. He was very good and likes his daycare so that made it easier.I took my two 13 year old granddaughters shopping last weekend. They love to go to thrift store shopping, they were fun and really good shoppers. They got some really good deals. I am changing my bedroom a bit.I have a king size bed that takes up a lot of room in the bedroom and it is just me and the occasional grandchild sleeping in it.I am going to change it for a queen size, but since the dressers all match the bed, I am going to try to let it all go to someone. My mother and my son both said to sell it, but then I have to store it somewhere and I really don't have the space for that.I would end up having a bedroom in the living room, which at times I fall asleep on the couch I guess it's kind of a bed room.
Cami- Your picture was beautiful.I hope that you household is healthy this week.Did you and Joey have fun watching a scary movie Saturday?I love those!!
Goldie-loved your pictures! You take good pictures and the places you go are so …picturesque…
Illimae – So glad you had fun on the party bus!It sounds like it was a night to remember…or forget in the case of the pole dancer!Lol Glad you shared the highlights with us, it made me laugh.
NM- you are so busy at work, but it sounds like you are getting everyone the training and certificates they need and I bet that will be really important when they have to use those skills or if something happens your people are certified.Even though you are busy it sounds like you are happy there and you and Sadie like the residents.
It is nice to see your pictures, it puts a face to the name and when I am reading this I almost feel like I am at the kitchen table with you all.Karen1956 -= I picture her looking like my sister, because her name is Karen and she was born in 1956.
JCS – hope you are feeling good, you are always so busy, but in a good way, with friends and family.
Jazzy – I love the pictures of the hot air balloons!I showed my daughter and told her I wanted to go see it one time and she said one of her clients went and loved it.She said if I go, she wanted to come with me.
Janky and Jazzy glad your eyes are better !!!It makes the rest of us feel better on the road knowing you can see.. JKlol
Chi- So interesting to learn about Yom Kipper.I now want to learn more so I guess I will spend some time googleingit.Glad your cat is better.
-
Mistyeyes - sounds like your grandchildren are fun to have around. I love the thrifting with the girls, baskets with treasures galore no doubt.
If you ever decide to come for a fiesta, plan a year ahead with hotel reservations and reccomend no later than six month before for hotel & car rentals. Things go 4 or more times in cost the closer you get. I made my sister book her hotel in Feb & hounded my nephew to get his plane ticket too. Extra 100k people pass through here in the 9 days it is going on.
The photo above was out in the front of the house today. Lots of balloon rides going on

Well here it is Monday and as nm calls it 'monkey day' here for sure! I actually made money at the show on Saturday then had a wonderful overnight visit with our best friend forever - both my DH and I and Claire have been friends since were were born! (though we don't remember those early days), so when we get together it is always soooo much fun. Yes it is so awesome to see road signs and all, especially when driving.
cami - that kitty is me this morning, now way was I wanting to get up!!
NM - it sounds like you and Sadie have been burning the candle from both ends with your classes being when they are, and we have that same chill here, but I have succumbed and am keeping my furnace at 68-70...
chi - wow - you are always such a wealth of information, thank you for sharing!
misty - I love that you and the kids go thrifting! I am trying to sell furniture for a friend who is moving and it is such an ordeal, setting up times, then the no shows, then the no not interested, etc...Sometimes easier to give it to someone who can use it and take it away all at once!
cami - thank you I did make some money, which always makes the effort of setting up and taking down much easier when it is all done! How was the scary movie? My daughter loves them, NOT me though!
jazzy - 'your' balloons are amazing, we saw lots in the air over in Australia last October, beautiful to behold - glad your eye is good too! I go to my regular optometrist at the end of the month, so I will see if I can keep my other eye the way it is, or would it be better to remove the cataract before it worsens, right now I like it as I can see to read, once the cataract is removed there I lose that - always a decision
and I don't want to go back to wearing glasses all the time.
Hi to everyone, have a great week! Cheers!

Happy had a bit of a relapse of vomiting yesterday, but it was my fault: I'm so worried about his reduced ability to absorb nutrients (and calories) that I overindulged him and fed him larger portions, let him finish Heidi's crumbs, and let him lick the paper towel on which I nuked a slice of bacon, which he adores. I need to remember his stomach capacity, and stop letting him have anything that might irritate his guts no matter how hard he may beg for it. (If it's on a feeding dish or saucer, he will eat it so long as it's cat food). Otherwise, he's been as lovey and frisky as ever. Heidi, OTOH, has become extremely picky and will eat no more than half a tablespoon of her wet food, no matter how well I spike it with catnip, probiotic, and treats. She is afraid Happy will bully her away from her dish, and I've had to resort to holding the dish in front of her face wherever she is at mealtime. Hate to have to sequester either of them until she cleans her plate.
We went to the Palm (one of our old standby steakhouses, where we belong to their 837 Club frequent diner program) downtown for dinner last night and got extremely frustrated over the wine list & service. The multi-page list is insanely overpriced, but I thought I found a reasonable 2013 meritage ("Cuttings," by The Prisoner). Server brought out the bottle and was about to open it when I saw "2017" on the label. WAAAAY too young for something containing--much less primarily--Cabernet Sauvignon. She apologized and pointed to the disclaimer, printed in "mice type" font at the bottom of the first page, "vintages listed subject to change without notice depending on availability." I asked to see the sommelier for suggestions as to what might go with our cowboy ribeye, and she replied "We don't have one. But I'll talk to the manager and have her pick something out that matches your preferences." (A high-end steak house with a giant and extremely pricy wine list but no sommelier? Oy vey). The manager returned with two bottles: a BV 2013 meritage, for $130 (!) and a 2015 Pinot Noir (label escapes me) for $145 (!!!).
Asked the manager if any of the vintages listed can be relied on. "Not really," she responded grudgingly. We ended up with a glass apiece of 2016 Davis Bynum northern Sonoma Pinot Noir--$17 for my 6-oz and $25 for Bob's 9-oz. Would have bought the bottle but the only unopened ones on hand were a 2017 & 2018. It was full-bodied enough for the char on the steak not to overpower it. (Pinot can be enjoyed a bit younger than Cab. Sauv. because the latter's tannins take years to soften enough).
Normally, in restaurants, the markup on bottles is 100-125%; by-the-glass is even more marked up, a relatively poor bargain, especially in cities & states where you can legally take home the remainder of an opened bottle. Their bottle markup is as much as 3x retail price. I wish B'way Cellars had steak as good as the Palm--its wine list is excellent: creative, eclectic and reasonable, despite being far smaller.
Oh, and the glasses--which had been sitting out on the table as part of the place setting--were dusty and spotty. Ugh. We got an e-mail this a.m. asking for a review, and hoo-boy, will we give one. (The wine "adventure," plus some uneven doneness in our steak, caused them to comp our glasses of wine).
-
ChiSandy - that sounds like a horrible dining experience. I hope happy is better soon too.
Janky - let me know what the eye doc says. Mine are posterior & changing fast so rightie gonna have to get done. On my last 4 days of drops 👀
-
jazz - I will let you know, though I still have still have another week to take my drops - 28 days post surgery...

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Another gray and rainy ayem, dragging my butt out of bed again. I shouldn't be this tired in the ayems, got to see if going to be earlier will help. Been staying up a bit later than usual. Sadie says "woof" to everyone! Oh my goodness, the Pet of the week on the news show is a 123# HUGE doggo!I missed his breed, but he is adorable and so funny trying to sit on laps and he doesn't even need to lower himself to put his butt on laps! Ah ha, he's listed as a Great Dane on the Humane Society website.
Goldie--yes, some of the Mock Codes will be on overnights, and some will be on weekends. I'm not sure Sadie and I have completely gotten back to our usual cycle yet, but that's ok, we aren't far off, either.
Morning, Cammy Cat!
Misty--I bet you had a great time with the grandkids. So many memories you are creating with them! I had to grin at the falling asleep in the living room so that kind of makes it a bedroom thing, that happens to me all the time! While it is busy at work I am very happy where I am now. It is important to have every one emergency ready. With the changes in the health care payment systems sicker and more frail people are going to be transferred out of the hospitals and into nursing home and we in nursing homes are going to see more of those kinds of emergency situations. We need to be ready.
Morning, Jazzy!
Janky--Until Nov. 1st, I will allow myself to turn the heat on long enough to get the house up to 60 degrees. The thing is, I really don't need to do that, not using anywhere near as much oil with the heat pump, but lifelong habits are hard to change!
Chi--Good heavens what a deal with the wine at the steak house! I knew the wine mark ups in restaurants was high, never realized it was THAT high. Sorry to hear about Happy's little relapse, at least you know the reason and that it's not serious. It must be hard to keep both kittys properly fed with one being so picky. Good luck with finding a workable system!
-
Jazzy, when do you go for YOUR balloon ride? The balloon fest there is definately one to see, at least once.
Misty, sounds like you have been quite busy with all the kids, that's a good thing. No one in the family in interested in the bed set? If you sleep on the couch, could you wait until you sold it to get a new set? Or....might you be able to use a queen matress with king headboard? Or make it a donation and then include it in your taxes. We usually end up in Moab, as it is just absolutely gorgeous!
Janky, good to hear you had such a nice time with your childhood friends. You have known your DH all your life???
Sandy, those are some expensive drinks. Glad you at least got them comped!
NM, I don't think your body had caught up to odd work hours yet! Good thing it's just temporary and done for now. I think we too will be turning the heat on when temps hit the mid 20's later this week. A friend of my sons has a great dane, not sure what he weighs, but she calls him Mouse!
Nothing going on here. Cleaning and getting ready to leave Monday morning for onc appt and then Tuesday morning to Ohio.
-
Here's Mouse, only part Great Dane and she is unsure of what else.
-
Balloon ride next Sunday 😁
Those Danes are adorbs ❤️
-
.
Life on the porch at the beach. Wonderful!
-
-
I woke up to blowing snow and cold this ayem - ugh! I am not really ready for winter yet (or ever).
goldie - yes, DH and I started to date in middle school (14 years old, much to my parents dismay), got married at 21, and the rest is history, 44 years later! He has been a great support through all the trials and tribulations of life, and now life with stage 4 cancer. Mouse is not representative of his size, beautiful dog!
jazzy - I will let you know what the eye doc says, I hope our right eye goes as well as the left! Enjoy your balloon ride, such an adenture!
jcs - I love your pic - anything to do with the beach is my fav for sure
chi - I am glad you let your servers know when things are not cooked right, if customers don't let restaurants know, it is difficult to correct a less than perfect meal, sometimes you are compensated and sometimes not, glad that Happy is on the mend (sort of).
Well, stay warm and dry everyone. Cheers!

Mornin' ladies,
Again I thought I was here yesterday, then I remembered all the confusion with work---well the phnes anyway and I don't help that's for sure.
Sandy thank u so much for ur explanation, I knew u would explain things for my understanding.....very interesting. Wow what a nite u had. Oh Happy has to really be watched, now Heide too.
Misty how fun u had with ur grandkids and don't give up ur bed that fast. Lori had a good idea. This way more kids can still sleep on it. All fun
Illi u really party hardy, lubs it.
JC how relaxing to just sit on the porch. So nice.
Jazzy how many people can go up in one balloon at a time. Ur nephew is there now right, or am I all confused again. What a view they must have.
Joey and I both fell asleep Sat. nite. LOL
Marty got his tonsils out yesterday and the Dr. told him his pain wil be at least a 10 for a few days. Why would u tell someone that. IDK. It seems to me u kind of put that pain level in ur mind.
OK HELLO to everyone, nap time.
LUBS U ALL
-
“mouse”? Lol.
-
Cami - balloons can hold anywhere from 3-14 depending on the size of the basket
-
Gonna be a short post, as since sundown it's Yom Kippur so the DOTD is water, and what's for dinner is...nothing. OK, my night meds (Fasting till services end tomorrow, just short of sundown—the temple has a kiddush (wine & challah) followed by refreshments—last year it was cold vegetarian tapas). Not supposed to drink anything—but I get a pass with water, which is doctor's orders. Bob's enjoying a Moscow Mule—but since he's not Jewish he can.
Of course, the kitties aren’t fasting.
-
-
Mornin' ladies,
Sandy a great pic. of you. Does ur DH eat in front of you??? If he does he must be Catholic. OK I'm not insulting anyone, well maybe I am.
Kim it's still dark here, but I slept pretty good last nite with no Xanax. If I have them I don't need them as much but if I don;'t, I really need them. My brain is such a mess.
OK Jazzy THAT many people, holy chit I think that would be more scary having to many people but the balloon must be gigantic for all those people.
Marty's Dr. gave him some pain meds <syrup> to take and none of the pharmacyies had it or heard of it around here. Anyway she had to drive about a 1/2 hr. from here to get it and then it cost almost 200.00, like there was nothing better to give him??? and cheaper. He's still miserable tho.
My niece stopped over yesterday just to visit. We just talked As usual it was nice, really nice.
Hope everyone has a great day.
LUBS U ALL

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day! Another gray and gloomy ayem today, another drag my butt out of bed ayem. I do fine once I get out of bed, it's just that move of getting out of bed that's a struggle right now. Ah, well, this shall pass, eventually, right? Sadie just picks up her head and looks at me when the alarm goes off to see if I'm going to get up or hit the snooze. She's so adaptable!
Goldie--you may have a point about my body needing longer to recover from the odd hours. Boy, some parts of getting older are NOT fun! A Great Dane called Mouse?Too funny! Oh my goodness, Mouse is adorable! Love the way he can sit on the couch and still have his feet on the floor!
Jazzy--can't wait to hear about the balloon ride!
Librarian--Wonderful, indeed!
Cammy Cat--Poor Marty! I hope his throat pain isn't that high for that long! The doc should have given him something to help with that--there are a few things he can use to gargle with to help with the throat pain.Did you and Joey fall asleep doing something together?
Janky--YIKES!At least I'm not getting up to snow yet! Where do you live?
Morning, Illi!
Chi--somehow it's doesn't seem right that DH and the kittehs aren't fasting with you!
Cammy Cat--boy that black kitty with white paws can TYPE!! I hear you about the Xanax. Iv'e got some tucked away, haven't used them in months now, but feel much better for having them available. I think it's a human nature thing. So sorry Marty and your family had to go through all that hassle to find the syrup. So not fair.
Honey-Bourbon Toddy
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 cup hot water
- 6 tablespoons bourbon or Apple Bourbon (see below for recipe)
- 2 3x1/2' strips lemon peel
- 2 cinnamon sticks
Recipe Preparation
- Stir honey and water in a 2-cup measuring cup until honey dissolves. Add bourbon (or better yet, Apple Bourbon, in which case you'll use 1 Tbsp. honey). Divide between 2 Toddy glasses. Twist a strip of lemon peel over each drink, then add to glass. Stir each with a cinnamon stick and serve.
- To make Apple Bourbon, combine a 750-ml bottle of bourbon, 4 cored, sliced Fuji apples, and 4 cinnamon sticks in a pitcher. Cover; chill for 3 days. Strain and sip of use in recipe above.
From <https://www.bonappetit.com/recipe/honey-bourbon-toddy>
Cammy---Tell Marty to mix this up WITHOUT the Bourbon for now!Warm honey is very soothing for the throat.

Just saw this on Facebook,
I am going to have a very hard time not laughing every time I hear the word at work today!
