Jazzy, maybe we can do the fall sometime, or before. My gosh, you would think we were planning a week trip together, as opposed to just a 2 hour drive to meet for lunch!

Cami, sorry you lost your post. You need to have Joey show you how to type in somthing else, such as Word, or Notepad. Or, like I mentioned before, do it in an email and then copy and paste it into the thread. Do you know how to copy and paste?

Thanks Karen. I will update on what is going on with her as soon as something comes up. Right now we are just waiting.

Went to a neighbors of ours, they don't live here, just weekenders. But her parents live up this way and they are farmers. Had lamb cooked in the ground in a pit. OMG, it was soooooo good. Regular salad, potato salad, pinto beans and red chile. Worked some in the garden today, and more today, plus cleaning, which as you all know, is NEVER done!

Hi friends- happy funday Sunday. We finally got a good start to monsoon season yesterday, with deluge that started late afternoon and it was still raining steadily when I drove home from the evening music last night. It is overcast and cool today and so nice to have a break from the heat.

Went to listen to music last night at a brewery I have not been to before and my DOTD was a lemongrass blonde beer. YUM. But I only drank half of the second one, with the idea that there were probably still a lot of DWI check points around with the long holiday weekend. Had a delicious potato pizza with bacon (reminded me of potato skins on a pizza). This four day weekend is almost over and

Goldie- the fall sounds good. I am going to see my eye surgeon in early August and plan to get my cateracts done this fall, so once I have a few things figured out there, we can figure something out. I have to plan everything way out for the most part, but right now, think that is our favor. Can't wait to meet you in person when things are a bit more settled. Continuing to keep your DD and the family close to my heart.

Anything roasted on an open pit is pretty tasty. Glad you had a nice visit.

Cami- I hate when that happens, I hit a key accidentally and then ZAP, gone, finished, history. Are you hanging out with any of your many boyfriends this weekend?

We have some ladies heading in to surgery this week. We will be in your pocket(s).

NM- what is silly Sadie up to this weekend? Did you have Friday off?

ChiSandy- are you still playing your music?

Okay, time to get on the yoga mat and then to the farmers market. I hear the peaches are harvesting now (yum).

    Wishing everyone a good week.

    Mornin' ladies

Lori that sounds yummy but I don't know what red chili is. My thoughtsare always with u Lori and I know u''ll let us know ASAP.

    Hey Karen.

Jazzy good thinking about the beer. I never heard of that kind. Sounds good to me. They r advertising so much beer flavored now in cans and it always looks good to me. Maybe I always liked fruit cu I used to freeze strawberries or grapes and put them in my wine. Jazzy u never mentioned cataracts before. R they in both eyes.

My sister's in the hospital, something to do with her kidneys causing alot of uti's, u know I don't get it, but I hate she's in the hospital. She called me yesterday and we talked as usual and then she says BTW I've been in the hospital since Thursday, I get hysterical of course, that's why she told everyone not to tell me til she knew what was going on, she's such an ass. She's coming home today. Whew

Yes Jazzy my boyfriends are around and so are others. Thank God. Jodie went shopping for me yesterday something she never does. Yes FF does it for her, only cuz he likes to flirt with everyone. He thinks he's Prince Charming, more like Prince of darkness, but he's to stupid to know that. Even my GD came over with her GF and a few others. Watch everyone is coming now and all week no one will be around. This feels so long without Joey. hahaha ok and the other ones too.

Hope everyone has a good Sunday

Good afternoon, Loungettes!Sadie and I had a very nice day yesterday, after the first thing in the morning vet appointment. I forgot to set an alarm and almost didn't get up in time to make the appointment! Sadie is now all caught up on all her shots and boosters. And she's positive for Lyme and anaplasmosis, so I need to get a pee sample to make sure her kidneys are working ok. She is definitely showing her age, though, she did not want to go down the very long and steep stairs from Mom and Dick's place to the beach when I went down for a swim. She was very content to stay with Dick in the screen house and snooze in the shade. It was some hot and muggy yesterday until the thunderstorm with the torrential rain came through.

Morning, Cammy Cat!Love the kitty memes! I go out looking for appropriate drinks, but once in a while I'll make up a name and attach it to a recipe that looks good! Good for you for having some, even if limited and closely monitored, independence!I'm glad you are using the walker, gravity becomes more and more of a biotch as time goes by and we have got to put things in her way!

Happy--looking forward to your first boobless post!

Goldie--still praying for you andyour DD. So scary and so stressful!

Jazzy--I didn't do or eat anything special for the 4th. Dick ended up in the ER and then staying overnight in the hospital after having a spell, probably a TIA, but he didn't take his wallet with him to the breakfast, the event happened there, and he didn't have his pacemaker info with him so they kept him overnight until the cardiologist office opened to get the info and check the pacemaker.A few years ago the man wouldn't dream of setting 1 foot off his property without his wallet. Now he doesn't care and doesn't see the problem with not having his pacemaker info with him.None of the tests showed anything, so now he's not sure anything happened at all. Dementia is a cruel disease in the way it changes people's personalities.

Librarian--Hooray for having the lumpectomy date set!So your brother was going to a wound center and getting hyperbaric treatment, and his other doctor didn't know anything about it?Talk about crazy! That's exactly the kind of thing the Electronic Medical Record thing is supposed to prevent. And you get a whole month without chemo???YEAH!!!! Sadie did celebrate the 4th in a bit of an unusual way, to say the least!

Goldie--getting 2 doctors' schedules to line up is a lot like herding cats! Takes a lot of work and patience.

Cammy--OH NO!The post eating gremlin is back!

    Afternoon, Karen!

    Goldie--that lamb dinner sound DELISH!!!!

Jazzy--gotta love torrential rains.Got almost a quarter of an inch of rain in less than an hour yesterday when that storm front moved through. Lemongrass blonde beer? Hmm, I'm not a beer person but I would try that one!I didn't have Friday off, I didn't think of asking for Fri off back when I could have done that. Not a big deal, though. It was a pretty laid back day at the nursing home.Everyone was moving slower with the heat and humidity.

Cammy--Your sister is quite the minx, not telling you about being in the hospital until she's ready to go home! Sounds like she's feeling ok now, though. Sounds like you are getting lots of company.

Hmm, I may have to go out to the store and get some Banana Liquor and pineapple juice and make me a Yellow Belly!

NM- so sorry to hear about Dick being in the hospital. Dementia is a cruel disease, both my parents had it but differently. One had early onset Alsheimers and the other from a frontal lobe stroke. My mother never remembered when she went to the hospital. She also did not remember some very bad things that happened with my father's and brothers health before their passings. That may have been the only gift in an of it. I am glad you could be there for the family my friend.

Cami- I got diagnosed with them last November during my routine eye visit. Saw a surgeon in February and she said we could do them whenever I was ready. I am now ready, I see a more pronounced change this summer with my vision. Both eyes, but leftie is worse. I have my next eye apt in a month to see the surgeon again and going to get some dates on the calendar. They said it can take up to 3 months to get an apt so thinking Oct for leftie and Nov for righties (they do them a month apart) but will do sooner if possible. I have to get through my bc check ups next on 7/19 (mammo, MRI and BS office visit, but all in one day this time, whew).

My only take away from the farmers market today was the last bushel of peaches. That was my goal. Growing season here is running late this year.

I lost a post yesterday too and didn’t go back to address everyone but you know I hope you’re all doing well.

My DOTD on the fourth was 6 (yes, 6) Zeigenbock Amber Ales. I went on a 3 hour tube ride/float with friends on the Frio River (my first float), it was really fun but after getting stuck twice in shallow rocks and the struggle that followed to get my big butt free and down river, I earned my drinks. My tube didn’t make it and I finished fairly exhausted but I am a strong swimmer and a determined person, so quitting wasn’t an option. Resting my sunburnt legs and rock battered elbows this weekend.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey day!Back to work today, then in late tomorrow due to teaching a CPR class in the evening. Nothing like a variable schedule to keep life interesting! Sadie and I had a lovely lazy day yesterday. I think she might be a bit achey from the vaccination boosters, she's not quite so active as usual, but she's eating and looking for tummy tickles and barking at the squirrels like usual.

Jazzy--good have all the appointments on the same day. Much easier that way. It's getting harder for Mom to deal with Dick as his personality changes, but I can also see where her nagging isn't helping. I keep educating her about dementia but I'm not sure how this is going to play out. Mom has talked to Dick's kids about her needing some time (preferably a day a week) away from him so she can get her stuff done. This promises to be an interesting journey. I used to go to farmer's markets all the time in the summer, now I can't find them!I know they are out there, but they seem to have moved to very obscure places. Ah, well, life does change ove rtime.

Illie--Oh, no, the post stealing gremlin picked on you, too! Seem's we got rid of him for a bit. Wow, what a trip! You certainly earned your Ales! Both for the hydration and the pain easing properties!

NM- are there any adult daycares around where you live for your mom to have a break? My dad became very clingy with our mom as his illness progressed and it was hard for her to get out to get groceries, get to the bank, get her hair done, etc. She found an adult day care to have him go once a week for a break. Maybe suggest that to the adult children too and have them help coordinate it?

Hope Miss Sadie is feeling better after her shots. I think you sound happy in this job friend, you go girl!

Had a decent 3rd & 4th and a rather sucky extended weekend. After the exterminator (monthly anti-tiny-livestock visit) left on Fri., I waited till the stuff dried before putting the kitties' kibble dishes & water bowl back into the kitchen; as I got off the low-slung toilet to head back to replace the "catware," my right lower back went out...again! This despite my squatting instead of bending, and doing my PT stretches every morning.

Sat. morning I got an e-mail from a cousin that another first cousin (who lived in the Westchester area near Mamaroneck) had died Friday after a long battle with "a rare blood cancer" (presumably a leukemia or lymphoma). He had a stem cell transplant but during recovery caught pneumonia. Game over: he was immunocompromised because the new marrow hadn't yet proliferated enough after the chemo & transplant; but anything that could have knocked out the pneumonia would have caused him to reject the marrow and lose whatever remaining immune system he had. (A choice that is no choice). He was an arbitrager whose offices were at #3 WTC--he came down with a cold on 9/10/01 and so called his staff that night to give them the next day off. I'm not sure how close his replacement offices were to Ground Zero--if they were in the neighborhood, I wonder if what was in the air might have triggered his cancer.

Now, he was Modern Orthodox, so he had to be buried ASAP after the Sabbath was over...so the funeral, burial and first night of Shiva (the 7 days during which mourners receive visitors at home and hold a short service, aka a "minyan," each evening) was yesterday. Unfortunately, there was no way I could make it even if I had been able to get a flight on such short notice: my dear friend, ex-boss and mentor was having his 90th birthday party yesterday, and Bob had to back out due to an unexpectedly heavy hospital patient load (with nobody to cover for him). My other cousins in upstate NY and Boston were able to attend; but my sis in VA couldn't--and can't join me even to fly in & out on the same day for the Shiva. Since my cousin's family will be sitting Shiva in the afternoons and evenings through noon Friday, I'm flying out Wed. morning, staying over in the Westchester area after the evening minyan, and flying home noon Thursday. (Tomorrow would have been impossible: I have a dental appt. that could not be resscheduled before Sept.).

The birthday party was wonderful--my boss was in great spirits, sharp as a tack, cracking jokes, and able to blow out the candle on his cake. It was a law office reunion of sorts: my late (AIDS) fellow associate's predecessor (who is now a partner at a Loop firm), and my law school alumnus I recruited and trained to replace me (he now has a consulting firm). Our table included our Rabbi Emeritus, Music Director, and several fellow former Board members. The food was luscious--it was at an Italian steakhouse. DOTD was Prosecco.

And the cousin who'd sent me the e-mail agreed that any time you can celebrate a 90th birthday, you do it, period. We're now at an age where losing our contemporaries is tragic but by no means unusual. As a result, we're planning a reunion trip this fall, maybe in Paris, London. Madrid or Barcelona.

    Mornin' ladies.

Sandy I'm sorry to hear about ur cousin, complications can always make things tragic. I am gald ur able to go their tho. Safe travels.

90th birthday, that's a land mark and it'll be so good to see everyone for u. I was starting to wonder where u were, Now ur back, well I know u know what to do but it doesn't help the pain for now. So I hope it feels better soon. U have lot os plans.

Leslie called last nite, they might be home sooner, first I think money, but I also think it's harder on Les than she thought, she always has to rest a little after doing things and I know there's been no rest. I'm finally getting used to being home alone and kind of liking it. I do know Lucky will be elated when he just hears the car. I have been lucky myself, I've had more people in and out of this hhouse and all the calls, it's wearing me out more. So I' can go and hibernate back in my room soon. Sounds eerie I know but I enjoy it. And I do really miss Joey, oh yea and the other 2.

Lori how are things going for u and ur family??? I pray for all good things.

Hey Jazzy, ur busy as usual.

My BFF called last nite and we had a nice talk, her voice even sounds the same especially when she laughs. I've missed her for so many years it's really kind of sad.

My sister is home but still screwed up with kidneys, No one is exactly sure what's going to happen but she doesn't want to have an operation every 3 months. So we'll see.

I've been busy mostly with A/C work but like u said Kim I've got the new system down pretty good now. I've actually learned something new.

OK Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning my loungettes. I have been reading, just not really up to posting. Going back to the doctor today to see if he will give me more IV fluids, even though I have been drinking lots of fluids. Labs on Friday, MO on Monday. My DD has surgery for kidney on 7/31, now she is waiting to see if OB GYN can confirm on the same day.

NM, sorry about Dick and I agree with Jazzy in perhaps an adult day care.

Illimae, great pics, sorry about the sunburn.

Janky, great news. Come back often please!

    Sandy, sorry about the loss.

Cami, I'm so glad you have had lots of visitors. Sorry that the trip is wearing Leslie out. And Holy the Cow, how did Joey get so tall???? Do you know how tall he is? How is your sister?

I cannot remember if I complained to you all about the volunteers at my infusion center. The last Friday I was there (6/28) three adult volunteers each stopped at my chair. Within plain sight were my water, snack, blanket and book. I also have my DH for entertainment! Yet each volunteer asked if I needed a drink, snack or blanket. Each of them wanted to “visit” and asked leading questions in an attempt to get me to chat. One even went so far as to ask when my chemo would end. I explained that I was metastatic and they would never end. She made an excuse to wander off. The real clincher was when a group of about 25 vacation Bible school children came in. They broke up into small groups and wandered the room similarly to the adult volunteers handing out apples and water. Iwas there only three hours and had to deal with eight volunteers! I called the Volunteer Coordinator yesterday to share my concerns about the program. She not only did not want to listen to me, she said the program was working and did not need to change. She said the children had no more germs than adults! She said the program taught them empathy, yet she showed none to me. I just want to be left alone, but it is my responsibility to tell all the volunteers I do not want to “visit”.

Enough! I have to get over this and concentrate on getting ready for surgery. ChiSandy, safe travels. Sorry about the reason. Sounds like everyone is busy with summer activities and visits. Take care. Stay hydrated. And most of all have fun doing!

Good Morning, Loungettes!Sadie and I are enjoying a lovely, leisurely ayem today. I'm going in to work later as I'm staying later to teach a CPR class this evening. I do like being able to sit and take my time going through e-mails with my coffee, and getting a second cup of coffee! Sadie is back to her usual self, running in and out, barking at the squirrels and getting ear scratches and pettings. Ahh!

Cammy Cat--that kitty has NO BONES!Yup, now you know my secret! Sometimes I just make things up! The hardest part is not using the same recipe over again. Or at least not too close together so anyone notices!

Jazzy--There are adult day cares in the area, but Dick doesn't qualify for them yet. He is still driving some, can be left alone for short periods of time. It's just that he wants her attention ALL THE TIME. Mom has a habit of planning out the day, and if anything interrupts that plan she can get irritable. So when she sits down to do some sewing and Dick wants her help with something right at that moment, she gets upset. Of course, she doesn't take advantage of the times he goes outside to do something, or drives to the store, she spends that time worrying about him falling and getting hurt or getting into an accident. She has talked with his kids, and they are going to start taking him out for the day, or coming to stay with him for the day, aiming for once a week. I think that will help quite a bit and help his kids see how he is doing. It's going to be so hard on them after watching their Mom decline and eventually die of Alzheimer's.It's going to be an interesting journey.Sadie is feeling much better today, and she says "Woof" to everyone! And I am happy in the new job.

Janky--HAPPY DANCE FOR 20 MONTHS OF STABLE!!!!!!!Hang in as you wait for summer. Here we went from chilly rainy yucky spring to hot, hazy, humid summer literally overnight. That brings its own challenges!

Chi--good heavens, you have had quite the sucky weekend, indeed! So sorry to hear about your cousin's death. And sorry you can't be there for the funeral and all of the rites and rituals. It's the rites and rituals we grow up with that make hard times a bit easier to get through. Glad the birthday party went well, though. And I agree, anytime you can celebrate 90 years, do it! And many of us are arriving at that age, I realized that when I was looking at my high school class Facebook site and realized that I actually knew most of the people's whose obituaries were being reported over the last few months. Like you said, tragic, but not unusual.

Cammy--See, I told you so! You can and did learn the new system! You just have to give yourself some time. I have found that the time needed gets a little longer every year, but everyone slows down with age, right?Even the computers themselves! Sounds like Leslie is taking care of herself, that's a good thing. I like hibernating home alone (except for Sadie), too, so I know what you are saying. People are great, but enough is enough!

Goldie--the Adult Day Care option is one that I am holding on to, it's not workable right now, but we all know that Alzheimer's progresses so at some point it will be a good option. I think it will help with Mom getting a break when Dick's kids take him once a week.

Morning all - gotta love those Happy Dances - the moves and the beverage! Thank you!

Chi- Sorry about your loss, glad you can celebrate 90 years of living!

Librarian - It sounds like the coordinator needs to take a course in how to respond with people, especially those in a chemo chair!! I too preferred being left alone when sitting there, and feel that our solitude request should be honored as well. Of course some want the diversion, but others don't!

cami - keep the kitties coming! safe travels home for Leslie, I too, found the constant round of places to see and things to do, very exhausting and future trips will be planned around my body, not what my heart wants to do ;)

Jazzy - how are things with you?? Good advise on the Adult daycare, even a few hours of respite are good.

illi - the sunburn looks painful - rest and drink lots of chilled bevvies ;);)

Hi to goldie, mema, misty and everyone, wishing us all a great, relaxing rest of summer with lots of healing and stability coming our ways!! Cheers!

Librarian, I think your infusion center is violating HIPPA. When I was on weekly iv chemo in the open-plan chemo room they would not let anyone in except patients. They said it was against confidentiality rules. The only exception I ever saw was when a deaf patient was allowed to have her sign language interpreter in there with her. Maybe question them from that angle.

Janky. mazel tov for stable scans!

Cami, that Mondayish-Tuesday kitty is Happy's doppelganger! (That's sort of the same pose he's striking right now).

I will be able to make a "shiva call" tomorrow night (they're supposed to be on the short side, but as cousins we have a lot of catching up to do). I timed it so that (weather and flight arrival permitting) I will be there for the evening "minyan" service, The definition of "minyan" is a quorum of ten Jews of post-Bar/Bat Mitzva age; the Orthodox used to insist it be ten adult Jewish men; modern practice counts Jewish women (and some Reform congregations expand it to ten adult warm bodies regardless of faith). Without a minyan present, a Jewish service--however short--cannot be conducted. (One thing a lot of people don't know: so long as there's a minyan and someone who knows how to lead a service, no clergyperson--whether rabbi or cantor--is necessary; many congregations are so small that they don't even have their own rabbis and usually hire a "circuit rider" for the High Holy Days. A rabbi or cantor is necessary only to officiate at a Jewish wedding--and even that is because states require clergy, judges or registered "celebrants/officiants" to make it "legal." (In Europe, for most religions, both a secular civil ceremony AND a religious ceremony are held separately, and the civil ceremony is the legal one).

Went to the dentist today for my 3X/yr cleaning. My gums have definitely improved, what with the obsessive care Invisaligns require; but there are still some trouble spots due to my prolific "mineral spit" (TMI, I know). We discussed what to do about the now-straight but longer incisor, and decided we can grind some of the edge to match its "neighbor" rather than put a veneer on the shorter one (which had root canal last summer). I switch to my last (hopefully) of 7 trays tomorrow night, and if there will be no "refinements" it will be my temporary retainer. Will talk to my ortho and ask if I should even out my incisors now and re-scan for the refinements or retainer, or have him take a look first at my Aug. appt. and if he approves, get the work done and then come back for a re-scan. Whatever I do, I will have some sort of retainer for life, at least for sleep. I don't mind.

DOTD today was my daily "healthy-carb" treat of an almond milk breve cappuccino (added a splash of whole milk, which was the "carb"). Saving my booze for the Delta Sky Club lounges--I'll need it. (But only one small glass tomorrow--I'm driving from JFK to my cousin's house).

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day!BBQ lunch day at work today, yum! The old body is complaining about doing so much extra bending, lifting and such after CPR class last night, but the class went really well, and I'm pretty pleased. Sadie was not so happy with me getting home late, even though I left home late as well. She gave me the back to sit and ignore for almost 5 whole minutes before deciding to forgive me! Such a silly dog!

Librarian--looks like we bumped each other into the pool!Meet you at the swim up bar! Boy, what a time you've had with the volunteers. That is just way too much for someone who doesn't want the attention. The center needs to have some way of indicating when a person doesn't want a lot of volunteer attention. Maybe ask the staff to put a "No Volunteers, Please" sign on your station next time you go in. It's not about the germs, it's about what the patient wants. It makes me madthat you were treated that way by the Volunteer Coordinator.

    Morning, Janky!

    Muddling--good thought for Librarian!

Chi--fascinating info about minyan and Rabbis and Cantors. Thanks for sharing!Sounds like the Invisalign has worked pretty well for you.Safe travels.

Well, the UTI has returned. I guess the anti b's just kind of worked for the moment, as when I was in the hospital, there was no sign of UTI. So now they are sending it in for culture, hoping it will grow and they can determine the best anti b? But there is a chance it won't grow well, because of the being on anti b in the last few weeks. Got 2 more litres of fluid. This has been going on for a month, I'm tire of being tired and worn out all the time. I haven't done any house cleaning in month! I can tell I have lost muscle from sitting and laying around all the time!

JCS, perhaps they could put red ribbons on IV poles for those that don't want visitors and to let the volunteers know that these patients aren't up to visiting. Pretty simple solution, as I'm sure there are those that don't want to engage but do because they don't want to appear rude.

NM, well hopefully Dick's kids will step up and help your mom out, whether it's just sitting with him or taking him out. He still drives?

Once I start feeling better, hopefully SOON, I will be more apt to participate better! Hi to all. I keep meaning to call or text MemaSue, worried about her and want to know how she is doing. I feel like a horrible friend!

    Mornin' lades,

LORI u are never a bad friend. U just have so much going on now. and now u have to wait til July .31st, oh how is ur DD about that. The waiting is horrible.Lori my sister is have UTI's one after another too but they found it has to do with her kidney which apparently has a small opening to her bladder and her tolerance for anti-b's sounds like hers. They were changing them all the time. She thinks they found the right one now but they found the source. Not that u have that, there's just crazy reasoning for all our stuff. I had them all the tie myself and needed fluids a lot in the hospital with anti-b's then they stopped, but no one knows why. But I'm literally 2 mins. from my hospital so it was all done in a quick manner. I just hope they get to the bottom of this.

JC Lori has a good idea, just tell the staff and u r probably not the only one and they can flag the patients that really don't need or want visitors. And why would anyone be rude about it is beyond me. Everyone has their own private views and should be respected and puleeze kids carry more germs cuz their fingers go wherever they want at any time they want.

Kim I didn't know Dick still drove. Wow u think it's all right. But it is so reasonable for him to want ur mom's attention all the time, cuz that does happen. It's very difficult for ur mom, good idea about his kids tho, that might be a help to ur mom. Give Sadie an extra belly rub from me.

Hey Janky and Muddling. I wish u'd come by more often.

Sandy wow, I love reading ur history, it's just so interesting and glad u can go now. I'm certainly sorry for ur loss, but it will be comforting catching up with ur family and friends. Safe travels Sandy.

    LUBS U ALL

Oh, Lori—not that effin’ UTI again! Hope they can finally get a handle on it.

DOTD: here in the Delta lounge at O’Hare, 2 oz of Veuve de Vernay bubbly and a double espresso (not in the same glass)! Yeah, I know it isn’t even 11 am, but today I think I’m exempt from judging, since it’s gonna be a long stressful day. Catch y’all when I get to the hotel after paying the shiva call
