    Mornin' ladies,

Oh great everything is on the last page so I can' go back to read anything. So I'm forgetting most of what was written. Jeez , I'll do my best.

Lori that phone call was priceless for u, I'm sure it was great to see ur DD. Sounds like ur feeling better, but not quite right yet. And still waiting for all tests to come back. Oy Vey is right.

Kim I like when u take Sadie to work, she can't stay mad at u then. I'm sure more people enjoy her than not, but there are always people who don't appreciate furbabies. I know I looked forward to weekly visits from the pet that came, but the dog was nicer than her owner.

JAZZY no alcohol for a week. U've got a lot of catching up to do.

We've got 2 operations here at the beginning of July, so we have to make sure we get ready to be with bothof u. with a special whatever u want in ur bag. Make sure u have body cream with u after cuz skin gets dry, really dry. And don't rush anything no matter how good u feel, just take it easy.

Oh the Drs. are going to test Marty's esophagus and maybe have to stretch it. Another goofy thing. Oh my niece finally met Dan <her cousin too> but now she said she sees why I can love hime so much. He stayed about 1/2 hr and they both left together.

Sandy I figured u were dieting for dr. reasons, cuz u look good anyway.

Chit I have to take a nap already, I can't keep my eyes open.

    Happy Sunday 😀

Yesterday was family visits in Vermont, I love old red barns and saw my first covered bridge. Such picturesque landscapes, the first pic look like a movie scene or a jigsaw puzzle I have, just beautiful country here, love it. On to Maine today for the Clambake tomorrow.

Hi ladies- just a quick hello and reading up on folks posts. June is almost over, July is on the horizon. I will be back here soon to ketchup with you all in a bigger way.

Cami- I got caught up last night on my boozing and had three glasses of wine. Paying for that today girlfriend. My partying days are long over.....

Goldie- i am glad you are doing better. Been worried about you but know you have been on top of getting this figured out. Keep getting good rest and lots of fluids.

NM- hey to you and Sadie!

Ill- so glad you are in New England on vaca. Perfect time to visit. I miss it still in the summer months, especially the RI shoreline/beaches.

Chi- I love fresh strawberries and used to go pick them in CT when I lived there. But yes, not worth the drive.

Here is a photo from my garden today. Do you see the bee watching me? He/she says "move along please, this one is all mine.....

NM, sorry Pearl cost more. I too would be interested as to why they changed all four tires w/o contacting you first. Oops, I did start my FU pills, I'm on week 2. I will call tomorrow for appt with MO.

Cami, I can say I'm pretty much 100% better. Get a little tired if I do too much, but I blame that on just laying around for so long and not doing much. I hope all is ok with Marty, and nice that Dan and his cousin got together.

Illimae, what beautiful pictures, I'm sure you are in awe.

Jazzy, you posted on the garden thread of your Oleander. How cold does it get for you in winter. As I didn't think they would grow where I am.

NM, sorry you are coughing. You know what to do better than I do. I've been fighting this cold for two weeks. I feel better than last week but still not "well".

Waving hello to everyone. Love to read your posts and see the photos.

DOTD was a small bucket of various rums and other stuff, lol, I forgot the name as soon as the bartender said it. He was trying to sell it hard but in a nice, not pushy way. He said I should live a little, I told him I live a lot, then he said “life is short”, yeah, like I don’t know 😆 It was a tasty drink though. Here’s the drink and view.

Goldie- it usually gets down in the 20s here in the winter, sometimes in the teens. There was a time about 10 years ago we had a freak cold snap that took us to minus 8. I think it is what killed my trees in the back yard, combo of drought and then severe cold and they were done. I re-landscaped in 2012 and that is when I put that oleander in too. It has done well, but had to be pruned back this year as it was struggling against a large cactus (also pruned back). It seems to be thriving again.

I was told that to help them winter, they need good exposure to southern sun. Mine is planted in the back yard along the wall and gets lots sunshine. A lot of my neighbors have them and they seem to do well in the high desert.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Monday Monkey Day! Getting up to a beautiful ayem here. Should be nice all day. Yesterday was beautiful, too. Sadie and I spent most of the day lounging on the deck. Did absolutely nothing but lounge all day long. It felt WONDERFUL! Ok, I did lots of belly rubs and ear scratches, but that doesn't count as work, right?

Cammy Cat--Good morning! Most of the people at work loved seeing her, but there are always a person or two that may be afraid of dogs, or having a bad day and don't want the attention or whatever and I try to be sensitive to that, particularly with the folks that can't always say how they feel. Sadie and I took some naps yesterday, and they felt great!Gotta love a good nap!

    Illi--Classic pics, Vermont is beautiful.

    Jazzy--wonderful pic!

Goldie--If you are feeling better than I wouldn't worry too much. Glad to hear you are feeling so much better. Scary time, though.

Muddling--The coughing is calming down, thank goodness. It's about time, too. Going into the second week for me, too, but it should be all better from here. It can take a while to bounce back after a cold now that I'm not 21 anymore!

Illi--WOW, a bucket of drink that looks yummy! And a great view to go with it!Looks like fun!

Chi--sea bass is good fish! The Chardonnay sounds good.

    Green Monkey Drink Recipe

    • 1 ½ oz. banana liqueur
    • 1 oz. vodka
    • ½ oz. white rum
    • 1 ½ oz. cream of coconut
    • Splash of pineapple juice
    • 3-4 drops green food color
    • Peeled banana, cut in half lengthwise for garnish
    • Cinnamon, for garnish

Add all ingredients except pineapple juice, banana and cinnamon to a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake well. Strain into a highball glass and top with pineapple juice. To serve, garnish with the banana and a light dusting of cinnamon.

Mud, waving back at you and hoping you feel better soon.

Illimae, love the bucket drink, so cute. Hey it has blue berries, maybe I see grapes, what's the yellow? So a healthy cocktail!

Jazzy ok, too cold here then for the Oleandars, which is why we don't see them around here, we always get some below 0 temps in the winter.

Sandy, speaking of fish. I bought some individual packed Salmon, several pcs, from Sam's Club, they are HORRIBLE and very fishy tasting, not sure what I will do with them.

NM, after a busy work week, even for Miss Sadie, the two of you deserved a lounging day. Glad your cough is subsiding as well. Yes, I'm feeling better and my liver enzymes, albeit still high are down to 500 from over 1000.

    Waving hi to Happy.

Boring weekend for me, garden and house work is all. Hmmmmm, I made a post, guess I didn't hit submit. Glad I typed in notepad, so it was all still there!

Lori, I don't mind "fishy" taste (it's fish, after all)--but if it's excessively so in a species like salmon that shouldn't taste that way, it was either stored improperly (allowed to thaw and then refreeze in the package) and allowed to spoil, or it was a dirt cheap kind of salmon. "Keta," sometimes called "chum" is almost the trash-fish of the species. In fact, it used to be called "dog" salmon because it was (still is) used primarily in pet food. It does taste "fishier" than more expensive salmon (whether wild Pacific or farmed). The one good thing about it is that it's wild-caught Pacific, and not farmed. It started showing up frozen in bags at big-box stores because Pacific salmon became popular due to its higher omega-3 content and lack of the hygienic problems that can crop up in crowded poorly maintained fish farms. Keta is often from the end-of-the run, when the salmon have metamorphosed and are almost at their spawning grounds. They will have a lower body mass per fish for that reason. It's affordable and you usually see it in individually frozen fillets in larger bags in the freezer case. If you don't like fish you won't like it.

Pacific, because it is wild and feeds naturally on marine life further down the food chain, will not have the silky, mild buttery taste & texture of properly-farmed Atlantic (which is fattier but whose fat is mainly the less-healthful Omega-6). Pacific is "oily" rather than "fatty;" and its oils are delicate and can go rancid if it takes too long to get from boat to market or restaurant (and if it sits too long in the market). Some of the best Pacific salmon (Copper River, Bristol Bay, BC/WA coast, even Bering Strait) is flash-frozen on the boat within minutes of being caught, with no ill effect on smell, taste or texture when properly thawed and stored.

I don't trust big-box stores--not even Costco (I don't do Sam's for ideological reasons--it's part of Wal-Mart) for seafood, unless it's one of those periodic seafood "road shows" where all the fish is fresh and you can see and sniff what you're getting. I buy straight from the fish counter at the supermarket or fish market. (You probably don't get much fresh fish out in your neck of the woods, alas).

There are a couple of farmed Atlantic-type salmon that are responsibly and sustainably farmed (MSC-certified) in cold, cold water: Skuna Bay from NZ, and Verlasso from Chile. They are fed a diet that comes close to what a wild salmon would eat, with little to no grain, no antibiotics (used in overcrowded fish farms), and no hormones to make them mature faster.

My guess is that what Sam's sold you was either Keta (that's what Target sells too), or if it was a higher grade, was allowed to thaw too long at the packing plant, in transit or on the loading dock.

Oh, and Gordy's move was a snap. He Ubered it over here behind the van (and ditched his crummy little loveseat in his alley), and Carrie & I directed the movers where to put the few pieces we were taking back because his & Leslie's new rooms are too small for them. We then followed the van to the new apt., which is very nice--lots of built-in cabinetry, restored original oak woodwork (nicer than the painted-over stuff in our house) big bay window, fireplace (woodburning but perhaps decorative), large kitchen (no dishwasher, but dbl. sinks) with plenty of cabinetry. Little counter space save for a table, but we can probably get them a rolling butcher-block island/cart. Patio with Weber kettle out back. Nice shady street, quiet neighborhood with a great neighborhood association, plenty of street parking (except on Cubs game or Wrigley Field concert days, but Leslie has a parking permit and they have a book of guest permit slips). Even a little vest-pocket park in mid-block, with gazebo, garden and park benches. The whole shebang took less than 2 hrs., because they had the new king bed, dining room set & couch delivered and brought their clothes and other stuff over in shifts over the past week.

Only sticking point is his queen-size mattress & frame, which his ex-GF's friend was supposed to move in his truck till he had a stroke. She's found another friend with a pickup truck.

ChiSandy - How do you know all this stuff? I am really impressed. I do buy any fish fresh from the counter or fish market. We don’t get that much wild salmon, but do have plenty of catfish and shellfish that are local.

I have been painting a wooden bench my DH found by the side of the road. It is a Charleston style bench with rolled arms and a wide seat. I plan on giving it to my older son for his birthday. He recently rebuilt and painted his front porch. I think this would look lovely with some pillows. Not real manly, but heartfelt!

Been very hot here. I walked this morning farther than I should have. I have a spritzer water bottler I use to cool off with, but it took quite a while to cool down. Had to really talk to myself to get the laundry going and a few other chores accomplished. Sooooo easy to be lazy and just sit and read. I am rewarding myself for completing most of my chores with some well chilled Pinot Grigio.

    Take care!

    Early mornin' ladies,

Slept most of the day yesterday and went to sleep early, now woke up. I get days like that I really can't wake up, I really need my coffee, loads.

Pictures are beautiful, when my parents went that direction my mom just loved it and I always saw why and now it's even better. Ur having a great time and that's what counts. And u picked a great place.

Lori I'm so glad ur feeling better still take it easy tho.

Kim u and Sadie certainly deserved a good day of rest and rubing her belly is not work at all.

Jazzy those flowers are beautiful and the bee looks comfortable too. BTW I'm sure I'm wrong but isn't oleander poisoness, I don't believe it stays in the bloodstream very long. Chit I would be afraid to touch them. Oh another murder mystery on my brain.

It is wonderful how so many of u can download pics. We all get to share where u are, what u see and all different parts of the world. For the most part we do live vicariously thru all of u in all different places. If I downloaded u would see only a mess or my deck, but believe me I'm not complaining, I enjoy everything nowadays.

Ever since Joey got out of school, I have no idea what day it is and always think it's Sat. until sat comes for some reason I think it's Monday. He's really goofed me up.

And Jazzy ur right I cant believe it's almost the end of June, where did it go, just a lot of rain so far. It'll probably be super dry soon and hot ick in my mind.

    Have a great Tuesday everyone.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Twofer Tuesday! Boy, yesterday was a BEAUTIFUL day here. Wish I could have been outside more. Rain is coming in later today and through the rest of the week. Oh well, I've got lots of inside stuff that needs to be done. Silly Sadie will love being able to go out in the rain and getting wet right before bedtime. You know the dog is spoiled when you let the dog get on the bed while still wet from rain! Makes for smelly sleeping sometimes! Actually, she's pretty good about letting me towel her down first, most of the time.

Morning, Happy!I love the pics that get posted, too. Such fun to see!

Goldie--Sounds like your liver got a bit overworked and had a little tantrum. It's allowed!Glad you are feeling better! LOL at the windy Monkey!

    Jazzy--beautiful rose!

Illi--sounds like a great drink to go with lobstah! Ooh, look at those steamahs, and the corn on the cohb, and specially them red bugs!YUM!

Chi--Great info about salmon, thanks for sharing! Good to hear Gordy and Leslie's move went well. The park sounds sweet.

Librarian--Good for you for walking AND getting some other things done! Be careful in the heat, that can wear you out really fast.

Cammy Cat--Silly kitty!I hear you about the coffee. Coffee is a major player in my life. Oleander is toxic, if you eat it. Touching it won't hurt you.

    White Oleander Sangria

Pour 3 ounces Crisp White Wine and 1 ounce Cocchi Americano over ice, in a wine glass. Top with 1 ounce Lemongrass Lime Kombrewcha. Garnish with grapefruit triangles or other fresh citrus fruits.

jazzy, THANKS for the beautiful rose.

ChiSandy, Wow! Thanks for the lesson. We eat lots of salmon (from the fish counter, just because) and never knew there were so many varieties or drawbacks.

    JCS, the bench sounds lovely

cami, I envy that you think June has gone quickly. It's been at a snail's pace for me as I wait for surgery.

NM, we spoil our dog, too. Batman is a 10yo black lab and a gentle giant. (see profile pic) He's so tall people always ask if he's part Great Dane. But no, just all lab.

Today I had my pre-op physical and pre-op bloodwork. Tomorrow is pre-op with the PS. Finally, it feels like things are moving again.

    Cheers!

Lori, sure looks like Keta salmon to me—no way the better Pacific varieties are wasted on bulk package sales to warehouse clubs. The better stuff almost always goes first to high-end restaurants and then to fish markets and upscale supermarkets' fish counters. I also steer clear of salmon listed on the menus of chain restaurants (other than Dead Lobster or McCormick & Schmick), luncheonettes/Greek “coffee shops," bars, roadside mom & pop Midwestern joints, and restaurants in mid scale small hotels—they almost always buy their meat, fish & poultry frozen, portioned, & pre-packaged in bulk. (And half the time, with salmon, they're clueless about how it should be cooked—or it's so low-grade they have to overlook it). That's why when we can't find time to dine out at a good restaurant whose sources I trust (e.g., at one local fave, I know where they get even their produce), I will bust my butt cooking. And I like when “specials" listed are there not to use up stuff, but to take advantage of foods the chef was able to find fresh at the market.

Check Sam’s website (or if you also belong to Costco, their website) to find out when the next seafood “road show” will be. Bring a cooler or insulated shopping tote and ice packs.

Goldi - funny about your salmon. I'd take it back.

I have to disagree with Sandy though. I buy my salmon at Costco - individually frozen steaks & fillets - and it has always been good. Whether it is the Atlantic Farm raised or the Wild Sockeye, I've never had a complaint. Not to mention that the price is semi-reasonable. I can't usually afford to eat salmon out at restaurants so these cryo packs make good basic, healthy meals. Being retired and living in the real world on social security - I highly recommend them.

That said, what i have in the freezer now is wild caught cod - Kirkland Signature from Norway and distributed from Seattle, WA. It's been delicious. I'll be at Costco next week and check out the salmon packages.

There is so much about food and food production that the average Joe does not know. I do try to buy things in season and to shop local as much as possible. That being said, it is hard to do! Convenience is a huge factor when grocery shopping. Our favorite restaurants do base their menus on local ingredients down to telling you where the meat came from. My MIL always called that eatery, Redneck Lobster!

Goldie - Here is a pic of the bench. I did not get a before picture. It was white, but most of the paint had worn off. We did “distress” it so that some wood shows and some white paint. I bought the pillow at World Market for half price. I think it will look nice on their porch. image

Difficult for me to figure out what to get a 39 yr old man. He will get some cash to do with as he pleases!

Very hot here. I had lunch plans for today and tomorrow, but all have cancelled. 😞 I need to find some inside chores and get things caught up. Should not be too difficult! Drs appointments next week, then surgery and SBRT radiation. July will be recovery month.

Good Morning, Loungettes!Happy Hump Day! Yesterday's rain held off until the night, got 8 tenths of an inch overnight! At least it's warmed up and more comfortable in general now. I did get to take one of my adoptive Grammys outside in the garden yesterday. She was so cute, every time we went around the loop I would ask her if she wanted to go in or go around again she's grin and circle her finger. We were outside for almost half an hour before lunch. Some of the things I get to do at work hardly qualify as "work"! Sadie says "hi" to everyone, and asked me to pass along that she is collecting tummy tickles this week. For herself, not for any charity, she's going to keep them all for herself!

    Morning, and Happy Summer, Teka!

Goldie--wild caught in Alaska but product of China??? Wondering how that works! Was it good?

Happy--my Silly Sadie is a yellow lab.Don't think she's purebred, she came from a shelter. She's definitely smarter than me, though! Spoiling the fur babies is part of life for me.

Chi--good tip for Costco and Sam's Club shoppers!

    Morning, Minus Two!

Librarian--shopping locally can be really hard, especially on a budget. My freezer is my savior when it comes to being able to take advantage of bulk shopping and sales.

Minus, it's been awhile since I bought it, I don't have a receipt and the store is almost 3 hours away! I think I'll just toss them on the side of the road somewhere. Ravens or coyote will enjoy them!

JCS, the bench looks great, and I think it being black makes it a little more "manly".

NM, the fish was horrible and very "fishy" tasting. I see Silly Sadie is being a little shelfish? Good for her, she deserves those tummy tickles.

My poor daughter is having a time of it. Has to go for another mri, they think the spot on her kidney is Renal Cell Carcinoma, then on the way home involved in a hit and run. The person only hit her mirror, but hit so hard glass flew back in the car and she glass shards imbedded in her neck. She spent alot of money on getting a new flipper (tooth) said it looked horrible, so that has to go back. I think she is hitting a breaking point. My heart so goes out to her.

As for me, I started back up with a fever. 2 shaking and freezing episodes yesterday and last night. But feel good this morning. So just have to wait and see how the day goes. Monday I felt as normal as I usually do!

Oh my gosh goldie! That really did fly back and get your daughter. I think it is sometimes harder watching your adult children go through hard times, you can't help and save them any more. I guess we all went through it and they will come out stronger at the other end of it.
