Nicki what is Dove shorts? I remember disco and yes I liked

Dove shorts or maybe they were Dolphin shorts. They were those silky shorts loose fitting, some were 1/2 white,1/2 blue. I think I remember Jack Tripper wearing some in Three's Company.

Sierra - Kraft Macaroni & Cheese was my life saver in college! My friend and I convinced our parents to let us move off campus and into an apartment. We told them the rent was cheaper than it was (afraid they wouldn't let us have the apartment we wanted)....So, we went without a lot of things - like good food - just so we could afford our "luxurious" apartment with a pool where all the good looking guys hung out!

And, at that time, Kraft Mac & Cheese and Hamburger Helper meals were the only things I knew how to cook! I still love Kraft Mac & Cheese!

Someone mentioned "Disco Duck'....the guy who wrote/sang that song started out as a DJ here in Memphis. I remember listening to him on FM 100 radio station before he got "famous" and moved off to Hollywood! Rick Dees was his name....and he came to my high school once and played a charity basketball game.....there's a picture of him in my high school yearbook!

I hated Dodge ball! Actually, I wasn't very good at many sports....but, that was a mean one, wasn't it? But, I did like playing "Crack the Whip" - for some reason I loved being on the end and being slung around!

What about those hand clap/slap games? You know where you clap and slap each other's hands to the rhythm of a song? I can't remember the songs, though. Was it something to do with a sailor? Hmmm....Loved to do those!

Hope everyone's having a great weekend! Weather is GOREGOUS here in Memphis - and so warm I had to turn on the air conditioner!

    How about...
Red Rover Red Rover send _____ right over!

The game where two lines of kids held hands and yelled over for someone from the other side to join them, if they broke thru the hand chain, they got to pick someone from that to team to go back and join the other side. It was sad for the last kid standing But really fun to break the chain and steal one of their players.

But I can remember me and my girl friend laying out there knowing we could solve our whole lives if we had a boyfriend!

Patti - YES!!! The Miss Suzie song, I remember!! I can't believe you knew all the words!!! But, one song I'm thinking about has a line in it about being in the deep, deep sea. Oh, well...maybe I'm confused about that one. But, I definitely remember now the song you mentioned!

Sierra - yes, onesies, twosies - that was jacks wasn't it? I loved to play jacks! And, the thing with string, yes, I do remember! Cat's Cradle was one of the things I'd create with the string. And, Jacob's Ladder. Of course, I don't remember HOW to do any of those now, though!

Cowgirl - yep, I was one of those idiots who used to lay out on the hot concrete and grease up in baby oil (once, when I was out of baby oil, I rubbed a stick of butter on -it smelled awful!) I was definitely a sun worshiper back in the day....

Did anyone else have paper dolls? Do they even have those any more? I used to love to cut out all the paper clothes.

We also sung a silly song

    Morning:

    Jello was big, that's right

    I also used iodine..

    and... hmm... yikes a blanket
i only had one for the head area.. )

    anyone recall this little trick
    with paper..
Somehow you would fold it all
    and the ends rather triangular
and write something on each little piece
then you would move this with your fingers
ask your friend a question .. and choose
seems to me, some of the pieces had Numbers on them
with a statement on the underside
sorry, can not explain it better than this

    I recall living in Connecticut
    our neighbours were Italian
and we'd go over for pasta
oh, what friendship... not the same
now with people Tony and Gilda

houses would be left open, side doors
    sometimes the front one
you'd just bang on the door and say Hi, It's me..

    asked questions too--we called our
paper thingy a fortune teller LOL

    we would dress
    up in crazy
    clothes
    and parade around
    the block
    with pots and wooden
    spoons--our marching band!

    we had a grandma Rose
    and Uncle Tony..next door neighbors
    always cooking up a storm
    and having us for dinner

    put on plays
    in the garage
the garage door was our curtain LOL!

    tv commercials
It 10:00 do you know where
    your children are?

    doctors made house calls
    on weekends and when ever
    you needed them at night

the movie-the prime of miss jean brodie
    and the theme song
    jean jean roses are red

jean jean your young and alive

My teen aged daughters were just reminiscing from way back when..... they were children (all those years ago) and did those clapping games.

    Miss Lucy had a baby
    She named him Tiny Tim
She put him in the bathtub
to see if he could swim
He drank up all the water
He ate up all the soap
He tried to eat the bathtub
but it would'nt fit down his throat
    Miss Lucy called the doctor
    Miss Lucy called the nurse
    Miss Lucy called the lady
    with the alligator purse.

I remember that one from my childhood, too. It's amazing how they get passed on through generations. They also folded the fortune teller.

Paper dolls: Anyone remember Betsy McCall paper dolls that you could cut out of the magazine every month? I remember my mother gluing the doll to card board and helping me cut out the clothes. I had a whole collection. I even traced the doll to design and color different outfits.
There was a lot we could do to pass the time that didn't cost as much as Playstation.

The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie was a great movie. I met Jane Carr who played Mary McGregor about 20 years ago.
Singing the song, thanks to you, Patti, I looked it up and it seems it was written and sung by Rod McKuen (I wouldn't have remebered that)

Sierra, those trangle things have made a come back. A few years ago my daughters were making them.

I remember the song Jean. Was that sung by OLIVER? How in the world did I remeber that????

Patti - here's a link I found that tells how to make those fortune teller things:

    http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/origami/fortuneteller/

And, yes, I did the same thing with silly putty - stretching it across the sunday comics and rubbing the pictures on to the putty...

And, I LOVED the hula hoop...and don't laugh, but a few years ago I told my hubby I wanted a hula hoop for mother's day (even though I'm not a mother except to our dogs)....he bought me one and we took it to a family gathering - we had a hula hoop contest and I won!

Sierra - I bet your friend did have a fun time as a cheerleader for the 49ers....

Yes, I had majorette boots - I used to wrap my feet in saran wrap and stuff newspaper down into the boots to keep my feet warm during Christmas parades.

I remember thinking The Prime of Miss Jean Brody was a "nasty movie" and would stay up late to watch it.
I'm gonna check out the site to make those paper fortune tellers to teach my niece and nephew.
Speaking of Girl Scouts... It's Girl Scout Cookie time, remember when those peanut butter cookies used to be called Savannahs now they call them DiSiDos, still my favorite over the Thin Mints (also I remember those having a shortbread yellowish cookie inside the chocolate instead of inside chocolate cookie, am I crazy?)

Sharon my friend had a pink baton with platic fringe on the ends...I am roaring here thinking about the the platic bag
ritual....I would fight with my mom about that and wearing a hat...I was afraid it would flatten my hair and cause static electricity and firzz....LOL!!!

Christine you are not crazy...I knew there was something different about the girl scout cookies...yes the Disidos.......that and our little cardboard boxes of milk
    YUM!....

the di si dos remind me

WE had to do the do si do...swing your partner do si do
after that they played some rock and some slow music...

    Ok now how many times
did you or a friend play this little
    jingle on the piano
    over and over

    http://www.divtune.com/s/heartan_.mid

    This song inspired me
