Kelly, How true that reading is.....

Laura, Glad to hear that Leeann is doing better but what a shame that her med's aren't covered. What a Great sister you are. Don't they have samples they could give her to help her out?

Tadah, You be sure to take that much needed rest. I bet you are glad you are done moving.

Michele, I loved your new house. How exciting.....you are giving me the itch to move.

Debbie, Glad you made it home safely. I can't even imagine how you got a concussion and Mark got a black eye.

Tracy, my hand is still swollen and I am planning on calling the ONC (is that who I call?) on Tuesday. I looked up swollen hand and it has to be lymphedema because unless I injured it there doesn't seem to be any other explanation. Will it ever go back down to normal?

Paula, Is that the first time you have met your cousin Alex? San Diego is pretty nice if you decide to go. Does he live alone? That might be fun since you can also get together with Brenda and possibly Kelly.

Brenda, I don't think you can get lymphedema in the opposite hand.......lol....That's weird that we both have swollen hands......I love your hair, it not all that curly it has nice soft waves.

Everyone I missed, Hi.......I hope you are having a nice holiday weekend.

Oh! I want to come to San Diego too!! I have to work the day after Thanksgiving.... *pout* Dave's daughter lives there - you will love it there Paula and how fun that you would get to see Brenda and Kelly!!!

Graycie-Gail-Ruthie, yes - go to the Onc and if he decides it is LE - he may perscribe Physical Therapy and they will probably fit you for a glove and sleeve. My onc told me that it is best to catch it early.

Michelle - no, this isn't my speaking engagement. It is the Amer Cancer Society's leadership conference. My speech is Oct 26th - I am thinking about using our video as a lead in to it - would anyone have a problem if I did that?

I agree Tracy, either as a lead in or at the end of your talk would be wonderful. You've got my ok!
Kelly - thank you - I'm going to print that out and put it on my desk! My dh is going to San Diego in Nov. too - the week of the 4th, though. Every time he heads to the west coast I try to figure out how to go with him...I don't see it happening this time...

Debbie - can't wait to hear all about the rest of your trip! Glad you're home safely!
TracyNy - I know you're glad to have the move behind you!!
Michele - Moving isn't fun but setting up a new home is very exciting!
Laura - (((hugs))) contacting the pharma company is a good idea - all the major ones will help out with meds for those who can't afford them.
    ---------------------------------------------
Mike's aunt is starting chemo tomorrow. She just e-mailed me. Has to do 3 rounds of A/C and then rads. Her e-mail sounded pretty positive - I'm going to call her today. Just remembering that fear of the unkown - ugh!

ok - have a wonderful day everyone!!

    Shelby says HI TO EVERYONE!

    Mary -
She and I were looking through catalogs this weekend and she saw a quilted cloth purse and said, "hey, that looks like Mary's purse"! She is very perceptive. And, I keep forgetting to mention that I loved the hot dogs you brought! And so did everyone...they were deeeeeelicious! Can you bring them to our next get-together? maybe we can toast them on an open fire - on a beach in the Caribbean at sunset! LOL

    Brenda -
I remember what it means too!

    RoseMarie -
Oh no! Does she have breast cancer? I'm assuming so, but not sure if A/C is exclusively for bc. I feel so bad regardless of what it is. This is an incredible epidemic. Every time I talk to someone, I hear of a dx, etc. Make sure she knows the cheetah-phants are circling her!

    Tracy -
Good luck with your speech...you continue to amaze me! btw...we finished the last of the smoked salmon...yummy! Thanx so much. And maybe we can enjoy it again along with the hot dogs (see above note to Mary).

    Paula/Graycie -
    I'll never forget either! LOL

    Meeshell -
I hope your sis does okay too! It's great she has you and another sis too! Good luck w/the packing...I can't wait to see photos of the new house! I'm sure you'll do a great job making it a home.

    Mary-Anne -
Hmmmmm...question: I was working in the forest last evening and a thorn got stuck in the knuckle of my middle finger. Of course...when I took the tweezers and tried to pull it out, the end broke off and now I have a small piece stuck under the skin. My finger is very swollen and I can hardly bend it. It's VERY PAINFUL too! Ouchy... I have soaked it a few times, but nothing has helped. Should I have it "professionally" removed? Waaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...I'm such a chicken-sh**! Thanks!

    Kelly -
Thanks! They may be lucky, but so am I!

Graycie, TaDah, Cindy, Cathy, Paula, EVERYONE -
    ...missin' ya all!

    ----------------------------------

    GIRLS -
Do I have this right...let's see...it's Thanksgiving dinner at Brenda's and then cocktails at Alex's with Paula?!

    Hi All,

Laura,if the thorn tip is almost at the surface and the reaction is slight you can let it work out on its' own but... if you think a wider area is becoming infected then it may need removal with antibiotics by mouth or IV depending on how bad it is. Hope it is better soon.

I took my DD to Univ on Saturday. They had quite a welcome for the Freshmen. It is hard to not worry but I am trying. I am so used to knowing where she is and what she is up to.

I am back to my own work only this week. It is so much easier when you know the people. I am havimg a bit of post-vacation letdown. I better plan my next trip so I can cheer up.Hmmmmmm, maybe a trip to San Diego...

I sneaked a peak at my blood work and it was good so now I am not a bit worried about my onc appt on Thursday. It is amazing how much better I felt after I knew it was normal.

Michele, my Aunt Sally's maiden name was Gallant. Her mother was Alice and her step-father Wilfred. I think she is from East Margaree and is about 70. Ask your Mom if she is related. That would be too cool.

Sounds like Debbie is back in one piece, a little modified, but one piece...I wonder WHAT happened....

Wow Paula, you have lots of energy if you are even considering that vile air trip again. But to see Alex again...how close a cousin is he????LOL.

Tracy, I ahve no problem with our video being used and good luck with your talk. What is the topic? Aren't you lucky to spend the day shopping with your Mom, she'll love it.

Cindy, so glad you are done...any rads this time? I can feel your hair growing.

    Fists up!

OK, my photos are uploaded to the Snapfish site. IF you do not have the user name and password, PM to me.

Here is a sample. I think this is a photo no one else has taken. It's called "Monkey in the Freezer." Yeah, there is a story whose main characters are, naturally, pre-adolescent boys!!!!! Who could they be???

Mary - I looked out on Snapfish and didn't see your pics.... what am I doing wrong??

I had a meeting tonight for the Breast Cancer Prevention Foundation. I am on the board - not a big deal, we only meet 3x a year, but we have been able to provide A LOT of money for low income women in WA, CA and TX to have mammograms! Very cool. The fundraising is accomplished by a telemarketing firm that specializes in Non-Profit fundraising.

I am getting ready for my Reno trip. I found out today that there is a hot air balloon festival (Debbie - don't get jealous!) in Reno too!!! We are hoping to get up early (UGH!) on Saturday to see the balloons before the conference starts.

Laura - Mary-Anne - DONT LISTEN. I had a sliver in my hand last week - it was near the surface so I dug it out with a needle and then poured a bunch of peroxide on it. Hope it gets better soon!

Mary - nice candid shot of the frozen monkey...

Hey Girls - I bought a Cheetah blouse today - on sale at Nordstrom! I am ready for our next get together!!!

We should take a poll of locations. Hawaii? Mexico? Caribbean?

Well, Dave has some computer work that he wants me to do so I had better go....

    Love you all!

My first day was fine. After 2 hours of being in the classroom 5 of them were crying because they wanted to go home! The other K teachers assured me that this is temporary, and it had nothing to do with me. lol

I would really like to have us all in my tiny house. I have a round table that seats 4 comfortably, and a yard that's not so great, but it's okay. The only problem is Thanksgiving Day. My family plus 3 brothers and their families agreed that it's oldest brother's house this year. That would be Fontana. That is only a few miles away from Kelly, I believe, who has a huge house with (I bet) an equally huge dining table. We could always meet there the Friday after. Then on Saturday I am more than willing to drive us around S.D. sightseeing.

Or we could all go downtown S.D. and ride the ferry boat to Coronado where there are great restaurants by the bay.

Wow - that took some wading through!
It made me laugh - i read it wrong and read the title as someone was missing cheetah PANTS - not phants , and pants arent trousers over here!!
Had a great time in Chicago - the kids really enjoyed it too. We had a calmer time in the second part of the holiday , rode around the speedway in Indianapolis ,, the kids museum which was pants (sorry!) did the Prairie town in Fishers that Mike told us about - Rosemarie - couldnt get your number to work on our mobile ?? Mark wanted to drive around looking for John Michaels school - that would have been a fun day ! Contented ourselves with staring at any school bus that drove past - just in case!
Then up to Vermillion for the day which was nice and relaxing , plus the Great lakes maritime museum. There we drove around a few houses for sale as the prices are so tempting. This was after i had rushed shouting from the lake as i am POSITIVE that something big swam against me! What we didnt realise was that all of the water parks shut that week and reopen Labour day or the day before , which was a let down for the kids - we had promised them that for Friday. Instead we tracked down a diner in Monroesville and gorged on milkshakes , followed by a shopping trip to buy a Leatherman and some shoes which are so cheap its criminal , followed by a trip out to a house in Somerset where our friend once lived , then on to the Flight 93 memorial. We went swimming back at my cousins - couldnt spend too long there as the temptation to push my aunt down into the cellar and stand in front of the door was very strong by that point!
We took th ecar back with just over 3000 more miles on than when we picked it up.
As for the accidents. Well , Mark blacked his eye in the shower getting up from having fallen over , and me , well . In Sandusky i had refused our motel room as it smelt horrid , and got us moved. Later , i heard them putting other people in there so i was trying to watch surreptitiously from behind teh curtain. Imoved quick and caught the centre of my forehead on the corner of the wall return to the window - which pole axed me to the floor in about .5 of a second. Rog said was very spectacular - and serves me right for being nosey!!

Debbie, I couldn't stop laughing after reading your post. You sure made the most of your vacation. Sounds like you had a fun time except for the accidents of course. That sounded like something I would do, trying to peak out the window. My husband used to tell me I was nosy but now he's worse than me.......lol...Poor Mark, How is his eye. Your kid's are really cute and I loved meeting your family. I didn't get a chance to talk to Roger but I am sure he is just as nice as you.

Laura, How is your hand? I hope you took Maryanne's advice and went and had it checked out.

Tracy, I called the ONC and I guess it is LE. Just like your's swollen across the knuckles. At least they think it is and are sending me to an LE therapist. Gosh, I thought I was home free with LE since I have gone this long without it. I guess you never know. I think that is wonderful of you to help out in the BC prevention foundation.

Brenda, I am sure the kid's loved you and just a little overwhelmed with their first day of school without their mom's.

Mary, Not sure about that monkey in the freezer. Is that a private joke? I didn't have any trouble finding your pictures on Snapfish. Tracy, try again. I got the pictures I ordered from snapfish in the mail today. Now I can make my album. I was thinking of scrapbooking but not sure if I have the patience for that......

Gail - sorry about the LE - I recently heard of someone who is an EIGHT year survivor and she is just experiencing LE for the first time. So I guess it is with us for the rest of our lives just as the worry about recurrance. Cancer - the gift that just keeps on giving.....

Debbie - OMG you are so funny!!! I think you should all move here to the states! You need to be closer to your cheetah-phant (P-H-A-N-T not P-A-N-T!! lol!!!)

I will try snapfish again for Mary's pics. I ordered some too - I hope they come today so that I can take them to Reno with me!!! I am also taking our video just in case any of the Cancer Society folks are interested in learing about the Rocktober Girls!!! (If they dare! hee hee hee)

V - good to see you, have fun with all that is going on! I put a package in the mail to you today so watch for it.

Brenda - you have a lot of patience dealing with those little folks of yours.... They must be adorable, but I bet they can be quite a challenge at the same time.

I'm on lunch break, so gotta run!

Hi to all the Rocktober Girls.

I know this is late, but I just wanted to say how nice it was to meet everyone at Laura's! I'm honored that you invited me to even hang out with your group here. I'm going to try to keep up with you all, but I often get confused so if I mix everyone up, please forgive. (Yep, I think it's Chemo brain, my husband says it's just me getting older)

My answer is so late because I've kind of been missing in action lately- between computer problems, work, and feeling blue. It was the 9th anniversary of my Mom's death from ovarian cancer last week, I just kind of crawled into a hole because I miss her so much.

Kelly (I hope I got the right name?)- wanted to say, you're welcome on the donation for Teryn! I just fell in love with your little girl's story about wanting to raise her own funds, how could I not give?

Gail, I'm sorry to hear about the LE. But you are doing the best thing, going in and getting it taken care of. I've been going to physical therapy for swelling on my chest and under my arm and the therapist is pretty sure that it is truncal lymphedema, but very early. So doing all I can to keep it from getting worse.

Laura- get thee to a doctor and have that thorn taken care of! Don't forget, you can get LE too, on either side, with your bilateral!

So, I think I've talked long enough for a 'party crasher'.

    Hi Girls -
Awwwwww...you're so thoughtful, thank you. I DID GO TO THE emergicenter and a Dr. there extracted a lovely chunk of a big ol' thorn! It was such a relief! I told her, "usually I have a thorn in my side, but this time it's in my finger". LOL The knuckle bone was swollen and the skin was red so she wanted to rule out Osteomylitis (bone infection) with an x-ray. X-ray came back fine although some arthritis was noted. It's very sore, but now it can heal!...closure...I just LOVE closure... She rx'd an antibiotic just to be safe and offered an rx for pain...but I told her, "not necessary...us Illinois Girls Are Tough!". LOL

    Debbie -
So glad you're all okay! I had visions of a horrific automobile crash...I bet you look smashing with a shiner!

    Mary-Anne -
You were right on...thanks for responding to my questions. Your dd is so lucky to have you as her mom! Will she get a ring like yours upon graduation? 99% of the time I don't regret having children, but stories like yours of providing children with good educations, a stable environment, etc...I am somewhat envious. Good news with your blood work. What would BAD results be...elevated white blood cells? I'm just curious.

    JanClare -
Such a tough thing to deal with. It's so tragic that your mom's symptoms were ignored. I can imagine how much you miss her. You were both cheated. But keep in mind...your Mom would be very proud of your strength and determination. I can make you some buttons featuring her photo that you can wear at your walk...let me know if you'd like to honor her. Hang in there neighbor!

    Mary -
I LOVE MONKEY IN THE FREEZER! You are a riot! LOL Thanks for that laugh! But...it wasn't a pre-adolescent boy that put him there...it was a pre-50 year old dude!

    Tracy -
Best wishes with your volunteer work! You are amazing... My vote is MEXICO for our next get-together! The price is right, the resorts are all inclusive and the dining is great because we could all sit together at meals (if wanted). They have activities for those who are interested. You can do it all or you can do nothing! The resort we stayed at the last 3 times in the Riviera Maya is FAB! And it's not that expensive...I think we paid $1200 per person for 7 days and that included airfare, all of our food and drinks (including alcohol), resort room and transportation to and from the airport and lots more.

    Brenda -
Glad you survived the first day! You are so funny! I bet the kids just love you...thanks for all the laughs at our get-together...can't help but luv ya! I may be in Mexico giving thanks this Thanksgiving...not sure, but will let you know. btw...I just love the little elephant!

    Paula -
LOL - Alex's family would freak if we all walked in! LOL Get some rest little one...

    Graycie -
I'm SO bummed you have to deal with this LE cra*. Keep us posted...say hi to KiKi! LOL

    TaDah -
I know the timing of your b-day and the passing of your ex's mom was unfortunate...but were you able to celebrate your birthday at all? I sure hope so!

    Hi It's Jill here

Gosh - i know I don't post as much but this is difficult now.

Ravdeb - I am here on the board but they have not half made it difficult. I miss all your photo's - hope it is just a blip/computer error.

Everything feels different - but i suppose we will all get used to it now they have allowed me to log on again.

Anyway on a positive note I had a healthcheck today as it went as well as could be expected so that is good. I hope everyone has fully recovered from your holidays/weekend and I wish everyone the best

    Cheers Jill
