Ravdeb: What a beautiful house you have! Mine is like a box with a yard. Im glad that your old dog has earned a certificate and is no longer running after donkeys.
Cindy: Great news!!
Kelly: December sounds like a good month to meet for lunch. Ill meet you halfway -- you tell me where to go and Ill drive there. Temecula might be halfway to Corona. I have a brother who lives in Riverside and 2 brothers who live in Rancho Cucomonga.
Victoria: Im saying a little prayer for you and your honey.
Michelle: I dont believe weve met, but thanks for sharing your lovely photos!!
Cathy: I went to the 3 mile walk, not the 3 day walk. 3 miles were a breeze, especially since I was talking and walking with friends.
Paula: Its hard when celebrities get the beast. They seem so invincible to us, so when they succumb to the disease, its twice as devastating.
Amy: What a happy family you have! Your photos made me smile.
I live in the city so Im not allowed to have donkeys (or chickens and cows). But my Scottie, Angus, reminds me of a donkey. Heres a picture of him: -
Amy...you really ARE an inspiration. Your pictures are gorgeous..you have a lovely, lovely family and everybody is so happy!!!
That's so funny about your MIL and what she said. We have an American member of my dh's family and he swears a lot. My MIL loves to imitate her and we are always rolling on the floor with laughter the way she does it!
LAURA...you were the first person I thought of this morning. I will continue to think of you throughout the day. Hoping all goes well...
Paula..You look BEAUTIFUL in the picture with your friends and their kids.
Brenda..we are very lucky to have this house, especially designed for us. The land we built on belongs to my dh's family...long history on that...so we only had to build the house..didn't have to buy land. And since my dh's cousin designed it, we could sit with him whenever we wanted to because he is also a good friend of ours. (Part of the family that my dh was living with in the States when I met him).
Looks like Kelly is back to her job on the board! -
Thinking of you today!
(Brenda..you dog is sooooooooo cute!) -
Kelly....when my family and I are in a zany mood, we do "jazz hands" as a joke...hence the pictures It's not a regular thing we do or I would be concerned
Paula....I love your curls...so jealous! Where the hell are mine??
Brenda....I love your dog What a funny name
Have a great Monday ladies....it's rainy and cold here, so it's perfect for a Monday! -
Laura - thinking of you, let us know as soon as you are able.
Debbie -
Sam says thankyou to everyone who is rooting for him, he is starting to feel much better and enjoying the smelly food that he is being given but not usually allowed.
He is very jealous of Angus's whiskers!! -
debbie....he looks great....much better he's a fast healer! his scars will just make him look tough....like us
-
Hello all,
Hope everything goes well today Laura - thinking off you.
Debbie - Sam looks much better - or perhaps you have just photoed his good side.
I was 41 when I was diagnosed - so that can be added to the roll call.
It is a beautiful day here - cold wind, cold temperature but blue skies - beautiful walking on the hills. Edinburgh, like Rome is built on seven hills and come Hogmany (December 31st) we have fireworks set off on each of them simutaneously. I seem to spend much of my time talking about fireworks - where the rest of you talk about donkeys - go figure!!
Cheers Jill -
Hi Sisters!!!
Roll Call - I was 49 when diagnosed. Kelly you are such a little record keeper, I bet you have a Rocktober Girls file! :-)
Laura - thinking about you today.... Love you!
Debbie - hope Sammy is doing better, he is such a sweetie!
Victoria - prayers for Dave coming your way.
Amy - great pics!
Michelle - nice pics and so glad you have joined us!
Ter - good to see you here, girlfriend! You can hang out here with us anytime!
Everyone else, Hi!
Dave & I had a fabulous weekend. Firelplaces, rain, beaches, jacuzzi tubes, little shops, nice restaurants, romance.... Not much time to tell about it, but lets just say - this girl is in LOVE! :-) I am hoping that this lasts for a long, long time.....
Hey! We started drinking pomegranate juice mixed with a little diet Sprite. YUM and so good for you! Since I am trying not to drink alcohol very much and Dave watches sugar this is a nice healthy replacement for our daily glass of wine at the end of the day. Try it - its good! -
Hey Tracy... So, so happy for you! I, too, hope this lasts a long time for you. Just enjoy it!!!
And yes..pomegranate juice is very good! But pomegranate seeds are the best! We are at the end of our season here and eat this quite a lot. Great on salads! Great by itself!
Debbie..pictures of the human kids you had on the other page are beautiful. And Sam seems to be improving each day. Very good!
Jill... what is that that you celebrate on Dec. 31st? With fireworks? I'd say fireworks is quite spectacular as opposed to donkeys!!! -
I have confused myself now, Is it victorias Dave or Traceys Dave that we are all pulling for? ( Not that we arent supporting both!)
Jill, we usually watch the Auld Lang Syne Hogmany on the tv as most of our friends have young kids too so dont get out much. We have some fireworks to let off then too.
What are pomegranates good for? The pomegranate is part of the charter mark of Chesterfield i think, other than that dont think i have ever seen one!! -
pomegranates are chock full of antioxidants. i love drinking it mixed with cranberry juice. so tasty
tracy....every time i read about your new guy, i smile....it's so great to see you falling in love! -
:-) I am smiling a lot these days too.....
Debbie - it is Victoria's Dave.
Dave & I have not tried the actual pomegranate yet - we have one and plan to experiement with it this week! -
Enjoy it, Tracy. You can either cut it open and just chomp away (don't eat the white stuff..yuck) or you can scoop them out and put them in a bowl and eat them that way, or add them to your food...rice, salad, cereal, anything. Very nice. Don't eat too much at a time. It can "clog" you if you eat the seeds inside the seeds, which I do.
Antioxidant, full of iron, lots of good stuff! -
My sister and I grew up eating pomegranate seeds, which our mother wisely gave to us in the whole fruit form. I did the same with my four kids. It kept them busy for a long time. Now I buy the whole pomegranate whenever the price comes down a little which is this time of year. Ive been drinking the juice for a couple years. The seeds are pretty in a salad.
Roll call: 65 age of diagnosis.
Tracythanks for sharing your new love with us. For this mature woman its better than a movie. I couldnt be happier for you. -
Cathy, I'm lucky..we just pick them right off the tree!
How are you?
Graycie and Laura...what is happening with the two of you???
Question..I have pain on rib of cancer side when I press on it..on the side...
What does that mean? Could it be from rads? I'm not going to do anything about it. Have had it for more than 2 weeks but will wait til I see my onc in Feb. Anybody else have this? -
Wow Deb! You just pick them off the tree? How cool is that???? They are about $3.00 each here!!! The juice is kinda pricey too.....
-
yep Tracy...we have trees in front of our house but my dh has lots of fields with pomegranates. He now does export...think to Europe... There are all kinds of pomegranates, by the way. Seems the uglier they are, the sweeter they are. We have a bucket of them in our kitchen..the ugly ones. And they are good!
-
Anyone try a pitaya? My father in law bought one and we all tasted it at our Fri. night dinner. If you've never seen one (I hadn't) it's an exotic fruit from S. America (my father in law said we've been growing them in Israel for about 10 years). It's bright pink on the outside with some green type thing on it..it's a cactus fruit. It's white on the inside with tiny black eatable seeds. The flavor is nothing special..not very strong or anything..but it's a beautiful fruit. I can picture using them as centerpieces....
-
ravdeb, Deb, dEBBIE, You ask how I am. At this moment I am totally overwhelmed with emotion.
A few posts back Amy had told Laura to just picture us all in our pink Rocktober shirts holding her hand and reminding her how strong she is. I was going to make some lame joke about how I would be there too but sans shirt. Long story short, just a few minutes ago a package was put on my desk and now Im holding that hand in my own official Rock-Tober shirt. Thank you Laura! -
We love you Cathy! Laura, you are such a sweetheart!
-
Ravdeb - Hogmany is a particularly Scottish tradition where you celebrate the end of the year. Generally this involves much food and alcohol. For ages in Edinburgh people would go towards the castle to congregate and generally kiss anyone in sight!!!!! Could be good - Could be bad!!
After that we "first foot" This involves visiting someone, friend, neighbour and bringing gifts - traditionally lumps of coal, shortbread or something called "black bun" which is a lethal cake full of dried fruit. Anyway the person who first foots you should be male, tall, and dark. We never go too far and say handsome. I thought perhaps Amy might like to rent out her family to visit about that time of year - they would be made very welcome.
Laura - still thinking about you
Cheers
Jill -
Hi, well it is the end of a long weekend here. I have taken my husband to the airport and have to face the next six months aa a single parent...It was harder last year so I really should not complain.
Laura, my thoughts are with you. I hope you have your answers soon. It is so hard to wait. For all of us. On a lighter note, of course I only skimmed the posts about my name in Russian. I nearly had a heart attack and was so shocked I couldn't close the screen.LOL.
I was 44 at diagnosis. 45 now, middle of the pack,I guess.
Debbbie, nice snap of the kids and so relieved to see the recovery of Ddog is coming along so well.
Amy your family looks high on life this year. Last years pic is nice but there is a hint of reserve on every ones face. Did you cook for all 40? Brave woman.
Paula, I watched your hair site for so long, have you updated it recently? I bet the new chemo girls would appreciate it.
Cindy, glad your lump turned out to be fat. Who knew we would all be jumping for joy to find out we had fat?LOL.
Tracy, ahhhhyoung love, nothing like it. We are all in love with Dave too.
Has something happened with your Dave, Victoria? I scanned back a bit and could find no reference.Your labs look good, thank goodness. When were you diagnosed?
Cathy you now have a roctober shirt, we need a pic of you in it.
I have started my Christmas shopping. I am hoping to finish early so I can do some baking and relax when the time comes. We are planning on going to Mom's for Christmas. I haven't gone home for Christmas for 10 years and am looking forward to it. I haven't seen one of my brothers since before all this so can't wait to meet up with him. He is closest in age to me and looks most like me too.
Off to the laundry room...
Fists up! -
Mary-Anne,
yeah, i was thinking i should show my hair growth progress to new girls, even though i became slack about it some time in May, but i can't find my old thread about it! Looks like the forum history can only go back so far. Does anyone know how i can access ALL of my posts, not just the latest 100?
Otherwise I think i might have to put a website together..
lol i was looking forward to seeing my name in Russian (hmm its not like i dont know what it is russian though..) should have known better!! -
Everything went fine! I took a tranquilizer, because I'm such a chicken sh*t, so I just awoke from a 3 hour nap! When I got there the US tech started to locate the "lump" for the Radiologist. She looked at me and said that maybe I didn't need to have the biopsy because she couldn't find it. So I was soooooo ready to bolt! But, she finally did find the sneaky SOB - LOL. The procedure was not nearly as bad as the one I had w/bc dx. He took three specimens and was really poker faced, so I couldn't tell what his opinion was. So I asked him. He said couldn't be sure either way, so he'd rather just wait for the path. Either way, good or bad, I will be fine. It's a little sore right now, but that's it. 48 hours for the results...mid day on Wednesday. If it's negative, I'm having the prophy on December 27th. As you all have reminded me...the odds are in my favor. That's what I am going to focus on until Wednesday. I told the tech and the Rad. that you were all in the room with me...they thought that was really great! Needless to say the room was very pink! Thanks again, for helping me through this. I really appreciate it!
GRAYCIE -
How did your appt. go? Thought about you all day.
Victoria -
I am happy about your labs. The Edicrinoligist will figure it all out, the Adrenal gland can be a tricky one. Good job w/the cholesterol...you go girl!
------
Pomegranite juice...my Mom was part of a 2 year study on the benefits of it. They delivered the juice to her home every week for 2 years. She had to drink one bottle each day and had blood drawn every month. She was so dedicated...we had to bring 8 bottles of it, one for each day, to Mexico w/us! LOL They can't tell her the results yet because the study isn't totally finished. But I'll let you all know - as soon as she does.
Thanks again. -
Laura, so glad to hear from you. Do you have any extra tranquilizers for the rest of us?
Fists up! -
maryanne -
I laughed so hard at your post re: Your name in Russian! You are so funny!
------------
One more thing girls...I was thinking about asking my dh for a horse as my Christmas gift this year, but am thinking maybe a donkey instead?!? Either way I would name it Kasha. Or what about an Alpaca? LOL
Laura -
Victoria, you have been through a lot.I did not have neoadjuvant. It must have been hard knowing you had to face the surgery. I had my surgery within a week of biopsy report so barely had time to think. Good thing? It is amazing how each of us has a totally different BC journey.
Not too many donkeys up here. Too cold. I have only ridden horses a few times and loved it. I would opt for the horse Laura!LOL.
Paula I tried to retrieve your hair posts. I could get posts as far back as March that you made but none were that. Do you remember which forum you posted them in. Was it called "hair growth pics a la Karin Stack"?
Fists up! -
Wow, where do I start??? I just read 4 pages of posts!! We are a great bunch! I love you all!!
BTW - I was 37 at dx.
Laura - lots of love coming your way!!
LOVED all the pictures!!!
Michelle - nice to "meet" you!
Amy - was moved to tears with your two pix - just a reminder of how far we've come!
Cathy - (I think it was you, sorry so many posts!!) I taught school for 15 years before moving to Indiana in January. I was 1/2 way through treatments. I was nuts - that was my "fists up" moment...
Debbie- sounds like Sam really is a fighter - I hope everything progresses smoothly from here on out!
dEBBIE - your house is beautiful!!!
BTW - no experience with donkeys or pomegranate juice...
I know I'm forgetting lots of you I wanted to reply to-
I'll be better about checking in daily - too hard to keep up if you miss a day!!
Love you all dearly!!!!! -
also - I'll be sending out an updated address list by the end of the week so if you are not on the list please pm me with your address. Does anyone know how to send out a pm to several people at one time?? If so, please let me know. THANKS
