I, too was treated by Dr. Michael Meininger back in 1999.
He did a tram flap, but a free form so he didn't tunnel through my ribs. Everytime I see anyone down at Karmanos, they look at my breast and know that Meininger did the plastic surgery. He is a great guy. My surgeon was Dr. David Bouwman from Harper Hospital who is rated one of the top surgeons in the state. Nice to see friendly faces here in Michigan. Remember girls, I am a six year survivor, so the odds are in our favor now.

That's awesome marge....! Lets someone like me know there is a light at the end of this long tunnel...Speaking of Meininger...I have to call and schedule my last fill...yeah...I'm not fond of the drive, I live in Flat Rock and he's in Troy so it's a little cruise for me....My surgeon at Karmanos is Dr. Cassan Blake and she is absolutely wonderful....I am so thankful for the doctors that I have....I've been lucky in that aspect.....
Hope all is well with you MI gals....Happy New Year......!
Hugs.....
Candi -
West MI here...surgery date close to the 17th. Wouldn't mind hooking up with some of you!
Janis -
Hi Candi and gmr,
Yes, there are a lot of us from this group seeing the same doctors. I am seeing Dr. Meininger tomorrow to find out if I am finished with my expansions. How many have you had Candi? Are you happy with the way your implants turned out grm? What kind did you get...if you don't mind my asking. Style, etc. Thanks for being here everyone. I go in for another fill next Tuesday if he okays it. Wendy -
Michele:
In regard to meeting for lunch or dinner - I would not be able to make 1/15 or on 1/28, 1/29 or 1/30 (going on a cruise with husband's family). I guess that leaves Jan. 14th or 16th or anytime in February! In fact I guess February would really be best for me. However, I know we have alot of schedules to deal with - so whatever is best for all. I had to miss the last one and would really like to make this one if possible.
Thanks,
Pat -
Hi all!
The only dates I know that are tied up right now are 1/16 and 2/11. Right now, the rest of my weekends are pretty much free; of course, cub scouts might change that, I haven't received my new schedule from them yet!
Hope to see many of you soon!
Judy -
Hi MI Ladies,
Count me in if the weather isn't like today! Anyone else make it in to work? I did but hubby had a snow day. I can drive in most any nasty weather except ice or maybe locust! Who knows what's next?
We got the best news about my husband's tests over the Holiday. There is no evidence of additional tumors. He is good for another 6 months. Thanks for all of your support!
Hope everyone had a nice Holiday. I see many newbies on here. Welcome and hope to meet you and those of you who keep missing our gatherings.
Sending the best to those of you going through treatment and all the other hurdles.

Nancy:
What great news about your hubby!!!! Thank God for good news. Hope you both can take a deep breath and bask in the NED report. Hope to see you all soon if the timing for our next get together works out.
Love,
Pat -
I too am glad to hear about your husband's news...thank goodness.
I would like to get together with all...the 16th is a bad date for me though.
We didn't get quite as much snow up here in Oxford although it is still falling. I think about five inches or so. -
Nancy- great news about your husband. We are also on the watch over here with my fiance's cancer (we are quite a pair aren't we?) and so far so good too!
Wendi- I have the McGhann implants and after the exchange surgey on 12/8 I'm disappointed with the result. Ar first everything was fine but the right side is starting to cave in. Having "perkies" was one of the only consolations from this ordeal and now that looks sub-optimal. I expect that a revision may be in store for me. I see Meininger again on the 10th so it will be the topic of conversation along with being able to start weight bearing exercises.
I'd love a get together and can't think of a day that won't work for me but as soon as I send this post I'm sure they'll come to mind.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again! -
I can't believe it, I thought of a day that won't work for me. I can't make a Feb 5th get together cause I'm getting married (DUH).
Can I still claim chemo brain 8 months out? -
Woohooo for you! I am available most anytime too. Let me know. Wendy
-
No one's mentioned the weekend of 1/22 yet. Is the 22nd good for anyone?
Judy -
It's good for me so far.
-
Judy:
Don't mean to throw cold water on January 22nd but I am going on a cruise on that date, so that date and the next weekend are not good for me. As I said above, though, in one of my other posts, I know we are trying to accomodate alot of schedules - so if it has to be that date, so be it. I was just really hoping we could do it in February though - because I had to miss the last one too. Boo Hoo for me, right?? Could I just throw out either February 12th or 19th as possibilities?? Just a thought.
Gerri:
Congratulations on your marriage!!!!! I am so happy for you. Of course, we can't have the meeting on Feb. 5th - since you wouldn't be able to make it, would you?? LOL LOL
I'll keep watching the posts for a date.
Blessings to all,
Pat -
Hi Pat! No, it doesn't matter to me. February is just fine. Of course we want you there!
Like I said, the only dates that I have booked right now are 1/16 and 2/11. Maybe we should shoot for 2/19?
Judy -
Judy:
2/19 sounds good to me but I guess we can see if this is good with the others as they weigh-in with their schedules!!! Hope all is going well with you Judy and all of our Michigan sisters!!
Blessings,
Pat -
Thanks for the good wishes Pat. So far the 19th of Feb sounds good for me too.

I have a question to the girls that go to William Beaumont (Troy or Royal Oak Cancer Center. I have one of the doctors there. And I am not happy with this doctor. thanks goodness we see different ones all the time.I don't know who to pick, Well I pick a worse one? But when the time is done for chemo. Should I make a choice on my doctor to another doctor. Have any of you had this problem?
I just don't know what to do. I read here everyday and posted a few time. But this site has been my life saver . Maybe one day I can go to one of the gatherings.Would love to meet you all. Thanks -
2/19 works for me, too. Weigh in, ladies!! We can get a consensus & get something planned.
Hugs, Michele -
Hi gals,
2/19 works for me!
Lorraine -
Oneita,
Sorry you are not happy with your Dr. Is it his personality or choice of treatment? I think it is important that you feel comfortable with your Dr. I do believe that all the Drs. there probably follow the same standard protocol for cancer tx. I suppose being you have seen most of the Drs. there you must have one that you like the best and I would think you could make follow up appts. with that Dr. Best of luck to you in your decision. -
So far, 2/19 is good for me! Did we decide where?
Nancy -
Yeah, just when we think that picking a good date is the hard part, we have to figure out where to meet!!! Let me see....we've been to Plymouth, and then ...was it Royal Oak?
Let's toss around some ideas for restaurants. I love the Olive Garden, and they are just about everywhere...or maybe some other chain restaurant?
Hugs
Judy -
Judy:
Just checking in . . . Olive Garden works for me - as you said there are many around the area. Maybe others will chime in with their thoughts on either this place or another of their choice.
Take care,
Pat -
Hi Everybody!
2/19 and an Olive Garden sounds great. Then the big decision... which Olive Garden!. I guess we'll have to figure out who is coming and pick one closest to the majority? Looking forward to our outing!!! Lorraine -
Hi All,
2/19 is good for me...how about the Olive Garden in Ann Arbor?
Pretty convenient for everyone I think?? Finally, I get to meet everyone!!!
I have not posted much of a late..had my scans my lungs have some tiny nodules in them..but, for now wait and see what happens in another 6 months. I read all your posts, just forgive me if I have not posted much lately; I think of all of you and this struggle with this &%#$&&** disease.
Cannot wait to meet you all.
Lorie -
Hi All:
I haven't posted for awhile. Happy New Year to all of you! I hope your holidays went well.
Nancy. Good news for your hubby!!
February 19 sounds good to meet for lunch. Is The Olive Garden in Ann Arbor, right off US 23, with easy access? Sometimes getting around Ann Arbor can be a little difficult. I will be coming from Downriver.
Pam from Woodhaven -
Pam - I did a search on the Olive Garden and this is what I got:
Olive Garden
CONCORD CENTER - 445 E EISENHOWER PKWY ANN ARBOR MI , 48108 USA
43300 CRESCENT BLVD - NOVI MI , 48375 USA
14000 MIDDLEBELT RD - LIVONIA MI , 48154 USA
15355 EUREKA ROAD - SOUTHGATE MI , 48195 USA
16151 FORD RD. - DEARBORN MI , 48126 USA
The one in Ann Arbor is closer to I-94. You would either take the State or Ann Arbor Saline exit. It is near Briarwood mall if you are familiar with that.
Ann Arbor is great for me but if you want to see if more check in from the East side, we can move East. Livonia might be easier for many? Southgate is near Pam's neck of the woods, right? We have a few new Michigan people online. What cities are you from? I'm open.
Thanks all for the well wishes about my hubby. As you can tell, I'm in a really good mood! Geri - wonderful news about your wedding.
xxxooo
Nancy -
Nancy, Good idea about seeing where everyone who is planning on coming is from.
I'm Lorraine from Shelby Twp.
Am willing to go just about anywhere!
