    Yarn Alert!

Joann.com has Caron one pound yarn on sale for $4.50/skein (normally $6.99) and free shipping for orders of $35 or more. I've been buying the one pound skeins and get more than a dozen squares from a skein I'm sure. One pound will also make a good-sized baby afghan. My Michael's carries the One Pound but only a few colors. Joann.com has them available in a lot of nice pastels too.

I've been busy lately and need to work on the yard while the weather permits but I'll be doing some more squares in the evenings.

Bev -- Welcome. Hope you like the KK. Check the earlier posts for how-to video links if you need help.

Madison, hope you are feeling better. Have you tried crocheting to classical music or one of those relaxation CDs? I have several with water running, wind blowing, rain falling, etc. I will be glad to mail one to you. Hugs, Donna.

Hi everyone,  my friend who received the afghan has not been able to come online to express her thanks for it, but she gave me permission to do so.

I asked her what specifically she would like me to say, and she got a "dreamy" look on her face and smiled.  She told me she showed it to all of her neighbors and she told them what it represented and how much it meant to her.  She showed it to her husband and family, and she went on to say how it still gets to her that people who don't even know her would want to do this for her.

Then she had to get back to her classroom, but another teacher told me she had shown it to all of the faculty, and that she was very moved by the afghan and loves it dearly.

I want you all to know that this person is so kind hearted and sweet and is dealing with a really rough chemo for bone mets.  She never lets on that she's in pain, and she's a real role model for me (I'm not that brave).  So, thank you! to all the people who are part of this wonderful project.  You are amazing and appreciated!

And thanks to Jacqui for the wonderful yarn from Dianne at Knitting Up A Storm!  I have found a great little place here in Utah, and I'm going to see if I can get some for you (a cultural exchange of sorts!!)

    Donna,

Those One Pounders you sent me have been making 17 squares with a little left over so Ive been blending the left overs together and making more colorful squares out of them....

I have one of the ones left that you sent me to work up and I have about 6 regular skeins of yarn that someone donated via my mom when she told them what Im using it for....

Madison-hope your feeling better...I deal with high blood pressure issues off and on too.....since being dx'd w/bc they have had to add yet another pill to keep it in check and now have discovered my cholestrol is climbing up so what do they do??? Yep, added another pill again!!!!!!

Im at work so probably should get busy....

    Take Care everyone

    Jule

Gosh, you gals are all incredible the way you knit on and on and on... I'm finally able to get back to it, so if any squares (well, rectangles) are still needed, can someone please PM me with an address to send them to?

Also, is it still possible to suggest names (with addresses, of course) to receive these?

    Thanks!

First I have checked in here in a while.

Madison, I wondered what was wrong as I hadn't seen you posting. I'm so sorry you are having BP problems.  Sending you big hugs.  Hope things have improved but still no post from you and has been quite a few days since you last posted here.

I didn't realize how much joy and satisfaction I would get

from making the squares.  With the help of a CD that Liz sent, I too, have taught myself to crochet.  I'm looking forward to Pinkstock and "hopefully" learning some more stitches and some day to be able to read patterns.

Thanks to everyone for allowing me to use your squares for my Relay For Life afghan.  I have another almost finished and am starting on a third one later today I hope.  Work has slowed me down but hasn't stopped me!

    Here's the Relay afghan:

Boo - thanks bunches!  I'll probably bid on the thing myself.  LOL

MB - I've tried the fuzzy and bumpy yarn.  Not sure what I did with it after I couldn't work with it.  Hmmmm don't like the sound of DH BP doing wacky things.

Madison - glad yours is a bit better.

    Hugs and thanks again everyone........

Liz the afghan is beautiful!! I know it will be treasured by the highest bidder.

I like knitting with the bumpy and shaggy yarns, It is toughr to crochet with them.

But they are so fun..I love the textures.

I have had some bumpy/fuzzy (LionBrand Fun Fetti) yarn donated to me and I am having trouble crocheting it. I use the regular fun fir to crochet wiggies for the wig bank, and somebody thought that the fun fetti would also crochet up good for the wiggies. If anyone who knits would like it, send me your address and I will get it to you. I also have had some black acrylic yarn given to me. If any of the border patrol would like it, pm me your address and I will send it to you also. I would like to crochet more but I am currently tied up with my quilting club.

The latest masterpiece is a beauty!

Can't wait to find out who the recipient is.

    Thanks for your hard work...Smile

Thanks Laura,  I'm sure (okay I know) I will bid on it at the Relay For Life.  It is so special to me.

I have one ready to border and another needs the last row sewn on and then it will be ready to border.  Geesh - working has sure put a damper on my crocheting!

We're still making them - just have taken some time to regroup, take care of some things at our homes and enjoy our families a bit.

Thanks for the continuous support - we couldn't make them without you guys.

    Hugs

    Liz

                                          ***Newbie Update***

OK, I tried the kniffty knitter and it is not my cup of tea (good lord how do you wrangle that thing?)! So I taught myself to do the simple single stitch crochet Smile!

After many attempts I have finally produced my first reasonable squareLaughing so I hope to pick up production and get something in the mail soon.

    Hi All,

I'm still working on afghans. I have been spending time bordering squares so I'll have enough to make a new afghan.

I have been working on an afghan (making this one entirely myself) for the mother of the young lady with a very aggressive form of bone cancer. This young lady (Lisa) is in the AIr Force serving with my daughter. The cancer continued to grow...so they have had to change chemo. She had a blood transfusion last week. She does an entire week of chemo in the hospital.........back to her apartment for 3 weeks..then back for chemo. I have already made an afghan for Lisa. I need to send her Mom some hugs.

    Thanks to all.

    Hugs, Madison

Hi Madison, glad you're feeling better. I have about a dozen squares, need to find a box and finish some more over the weekend and mail out on Monday. My yard is looking pretty good and this weekend is predicted to rain.Frown

Liz or MB? Liz, I still have your address. MB, I would need your address to send you the squares.

    Donna,

Thank you.    I have been bordering squares during my lunch hour at work and in the evenings.   I hope to have enough bordered by this weekend so I can start on a new afghan.

    Hugs, Madison

Hi Ladies...I am still here.  Still making afghans.  One was delivered to Michelle in Australia a couple of days ago and I'm hoping she can post some pics.  I took pictures but they didn't come out...grrr.

Have another almost done so I will need a name and one more started.  Have depleted my yarn supply (except for black) so I really could use some squares if anyone would like to send some my way.

Sorry I haven't been checking in...just a rough spell for me lately...this too shall pass.

    Beautiful afghan Liz...

    Love and hugs to all...
