Wow. Brooke and Jason should have immediately dropped to their knees for the gift from heaven they were given last night! We all know if they were ugly and sang as badly as they did, they'd be in the audience by now. Sad...
Sucks that Carly's gone and that Syesha was in the bottom two. I felt the same way last year when Mandesa went home...

"American Idol": Survival of the Weakest
Andrew Lloyd Webber Week Results Night on "American Idol" is a shocker from start to finish.
Show host Ryan Seacrest kicks things off by kissing judge Simon Cowell, after which he assures Simon, "Relax -- it didn't mean anything."
Even though it was only a kiss on the head, Simon is so stunned he reflexively moves his chair closer to judge Paula Abdul and puts his arm around her.
Paula is observing Andrew Lloyd Webber Week by dressing up as the Merry Widow, under the mistaken belief Lloyd Weber wrote that one, too.
Seacrest announces 38 million votes have been cast. TMZ is reporting "Idol" message boards are abuzz with news Jason Castro is this week's bootee and that it was somehow leaked by Seacrest himself and an e-mail was involved. This sounds extremely dubious, even though Castro mauled "Memory" from the play "Cats" the night before because he did not realize it was about, um, cats. Jason's performance was one of the evening's two worst -- the other being that of Nanny Brooke, who forgot the lyrics to her Lloyd Webber tune about four words in. I'm guessing the eviction of Jason would not be a shocker to anyone except millions of prepubescent girls who are in love with him.
"X Factor" winner Leona Lewis performs. (Michael Becker/FOX)Tonight's "American Idol" mashup is "All I Ask of You" from -- gak -- "The Phantom of the Opera." Lloyd Webber is accompanying the Idolettes on the piano, trying not to look pained.
This is just a little blurb from the column I am now addicted to....if you google her you can read other ones.
I just find her incredibly funny. Often times, very true, too.

Very Funny Whoops, Thanks for sharing!!!! I'll keep reading her comments until the final show now.Yes, she is very truthful LOL.... Hugs KLynn

Well, my record still holds - Wrong again!! I was shocked as well - although I think Carly looked happy.
Don't get me wrong - I love musicals - my all time favorite is My Fair Lady, I just don't think it fits with the show.
And next week - Neil Diamond!!!!
These kids probably have no idea who he is either. Can't they find someone closer to THEIR age???
No wonder why the ratings have gone down.

I'm guessing these "mentors" all have new albums they are promoting --except Lord Webber, who perhaps was advertising his Broadway shows. Dolly, Mariah, Neil all get to sing to the biggest TV audience in history!
BTW, I liked Leona Lewis. I hadn't heard her before.

Neil Diamond week next week.
Big Yawn.
Pass the Red Bull to the judges so they won't nod off.
Anyone else feel this season isn't the big success they all touted it to be at the beginning.
To me Carly looked relieved. This way she goes home to her family but still gets in on all the fun appearances that go on for the top 12.
Jason looks like he is begging to go home and I think Brook is in some zone as well as David A.
David Cook is the only reason I continue to watch.
-
Sahalie,
Totally agree with you.I think it is time for me to find a new show.
I still like David A., and I am liking David C. more and more.
Brooke just isn't meant to do this sort of thing.I do give her "props" for admitting she tends to interrupt a bit. She must read our thread! ha ha!
I know, I agree that Carly looked delighted to be cut. Good for her. She and Michael Johns will do great, just like Daughtry.
-
I too was shocked that Carly left. It is nothing but a popularity contest. I don't think allot of the voters are basing it on ability. I still think David Cook will win, but I also feel he deserves it.
I don't think we have seen the last of Carly. She will make her way.
For what it's worth...I too love musicals. But I want them to sing some music that is from more current artists.
-
can't believe Carly got booted off and Jason and Brooke got to stay--there's no justice in that! Both Syesha and Carly were better than Jason or Brooke by a long shot. I think people must've voted for them since they both messed up their performances. I kinda wish next year they would have the judges do the voting and not the american people--maybe the person who should win would actually win!!!!
-
I was so blown away as well when Carly got booted. Jason really needs to go!! I am a Brooke fan so not ready for her to go yet but definately think that Carly is/was better than both Jason and Brooke!
My fave is David Cook all the way though.
Oh and yawn to Neil Diamond is right ugh!!!
-
Are you ready to rock out with Neil tonight?
-
Oh gheesh......I'm already embarrassed for them and it hasn't even aired yet!
-
I wish that Dancing with the Stars and American Idol would do like the old Star Search and use the results of the professional judges. I don't think it's fair to use the audience.
Well, maybe since the audience will have to buy the records but has Ruben or Fantasia become a big star? Just goes to show you that the really talented ones do get recording contracts and will succeed with marketing and money ... look at Kellie Pickler and Daughtry! I don't think Amanda or Carly will ever sell their sound in the big market so I think losing Carly was good since she won't win.
I cannot believe they are choosing crap like Neil Diamond for them to sing and then we HAVE to listen! Why not some good music like Gwen Stefani, Madonna, BonJovi, Aerosmith ... someone with a lot of hits but modern. Even Journey would be a good choice!
-
Oh my God....somebody better get Paula off of the drugs. She thinks Jason sang two songs after only one of them. How funny was that???
I've got a feeling it's Jason on the chopping block. Of course he's got the big girlie fan base so they may keep him in, unfortunately!!! Brooke's second song was pretty good so she'll probably slide through.David and David were awesome....
Yeah!
Evie
-
I had to record it on the DVR, so I haven't seen wack-a-doodle Paula yet, but that is tooooooo funny!
-
Paula was definitely out of it tonight--I felt bad for her, it had to be embarrassing to be that confused!!!! I really hope Brooke or Jason go home this week. Wow--Syesha looked absolutely beautiful and sang so well tonight! I think she 'll come in 3rd behind the 2 Davids with Cook winning it all.
-
My 14-yr-old son watched with me tonight. He LOVED both of Jason's songs! Jason has a connection with the younger kids. He is very genuine and doesn't seem uptight with the competition.
I thought David and David were very good, and I think Syesha is meant for Broadway. Brooke is my choice to get cut. I like the tone of her voice, but she doesn't have much range.
I read once that Paula takes pain meds for back injuries. And then you add Zoloft for nerves and a couple glasses of wine...pretty wacky!
-
For the record, there are other charts besides Pop and Rock. Just because you don't see the former AI's on either of them doesn't mean they are washed up.
Rubin Studdard had a few hits on R&B charts before doing a gospel release. His newest release is R&B, so unless you listen to it/follow R&B chart toppers, you wouldn't have heard it - just like I had no idea Kellie Pickler was doing well because I don't listen to/follow country.
Fantasia has had two R&B releases go platinum. She also starred as Celie in the Broadway production of "The Color Purple" - so trust me, she's doing alright for herself.
-
OMG- Paula had some serious problems last night! WTH???? SHE needs to go. lol.
I thought the entire show was horrible - like I said last week- Neil Diamond??? I think the only reason he was on was to promote his new album. He could have cared less about those kids - sad.
Boring, boring, boring!!
I am not predicting anyone this week- this way I won't be wrong again!!
Valerie
-
Oh Man, was that funny!!!!! I just watched Paula, and had to rewind it and see it a second time! ha ha ha!!!!!!!
Oh, the show was drab, indeed. Neil Diamond was like a slab of wood. He had nothing constructive to say!!!!
David Cook did really well on the second song, David A. was adorable as always, Syesha did GREAT! Why would Simon predict that she was in trouble?!?! Jason-he is so cute, but those songs were so out of his "zone" to use the judges word of the night. Brooke looks silly when she sings fast songs.
Oh dear, who is the next mentor going to be?!?!?!
They should have an idol alumni mentor the kids, and let them just pick a SONG, any song!!!!
-
You know, I had forgotten about Ruben's gospel album. I listen to a Christian station but it doesn't play music. I will have to look to see if the other Christian stations are playing his music. Glad Fantasia has found success as well.
I really liked Syesha the best last night!!!! And now, I am "over" the Davids. I really like David Cook when he sings a melody I know and it's faster.
Brooke is pretty but I am not sure what genre she is? I mean, if there was a Love Boat tv show, she'd fit in.
-
the show was really bad, why is simon complaining about all the performances being bad, they are the ones that are picking such horrible mentor choices-pleeeaaaase!!!
i think jason will go tonight, he deserves to go, but seeing as it is based on looks and not talent he may be safe, it may be seyesha since simon jinkced her by saying you may be in trouble.
i cannot bare to listen to david a another minute he is like a performing elf. david cooke should win he is truly the best.
-
ROTFLMAO........
I cracked up at the Love Boat thing-----HOW TOTALLY TRUE IS THAT???? She would make a great singing cruise director!
I cracked up at the singing elf thing too----I totally adore David A., but he is a very uncanny resemblance to a Keebler Elf.

"American Idol": Holly Holy! It's Neil Diamond Night!
"American Idol" comes unhinged on Neil Diamond Night.
For starters, each of the remaining five Idolettes gets to sing not one but two Diamond tunes. Then, to save time, the show's judges -- Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell, won't get to critique the Idolettes until each has performed both tunes.
"Bring those perky contestants in," Diamond says in a taped bit, giving us hope this week might be as good as last week's Andrew Lloyd Webber night, if only Diamond's being sarcastic.
Sadly, he's not, which becomes apparent as he prattles on about his songs being written to be joyful.ROUND 1
Jason Castro rehearses "Forever in Blue Jeans" with Diamond, only he's brought along the lyrics to his second tune, "September Morn." Even so, Diamond thinks Jason will "do great."
Diamond is overly optimistic, as befits a guy whose songs are written to be joyful. Jason does well enough, though he sounds and looks like he's been eating those flowers he used to put in his dreadlocks. The Mosh Pit Sorority Sisters are so unable to pick up the beat they don't even try to do The Wave.Show host Ryan Seacrest asks David Cook how he has prepared to sing "I'm Alive." David C. says he was going to ask Seacrest the same thing. Oh snap! But Seacrest, presumptive winner of the Very First Primetime Emmy Award for Best Reality Series Host, misses nary a beat and says he uses his hairbrush for a mike and sings in front of the mirror, teaching David C. that he messes with The Seacrest at his own peril. Diamond is seen predicting in a taped bit that David C. will "do great."
Once again -- too joyful in his prediction, though David C. is pretty good.
When Nanny Brooke meets Diamond in the taped bit, she asks whether he's a hugger or a handshaker. He thinks it's a trick question and doesn't want to commit, saying he's both. Nanny Brooke will first sing "I'm a Believer" like a Junior Leaguer at a hootenanny, followed by a more introspective "I Am ... I Said" at the piano with some of the more difficult lyrics -- something about palm trees grow and the rents are low -- written on the palm of her hand lest she forget the words to a song for the third time this season. Diamond suggests that for the second song, she change the reference to being New York born and raised to Arizona, since that's where she's from, which will make it more "genuine" -- which is an interesting word to use in connection with a song that includes such lyrics as "and no one heard at all, not even the chair."
David "Baby Elmo" Archuleta has picked "Sweet Caroline" for his first tune. Diamond says he's "kind of a prodigy" and with a little guidance "I think he will do great."
We're sensing a trend. Or some senility setting in. Anyway, Baby Elmo's performance is the same as ever because he can't seem to do otherwise, whether he's singing a goofy tune like this one or the heavy-message song he favors. Oh, and David A. already has forgotten Andrew Lloyd Webber's advice about not shutting his eyes.
Syesha Mercado picks "Hello Again," on which, Diamond says, she did a "wonderful job" during rehearsals. He predicts she will -- wait for it -- "do great" on "Idol" night. If she could just add skating, she would make an excellent star of Idols on Ice. Instead, she performs barefooted for reasons that are never explained, which is kinda like introducing a knife in Act 1 without having used it by the final curtain. The audience feels cheated.
First round over, all the Idolettes are brought back onstage so the judges can do some speed-critiquing. Randy calls Jason "okay," David C. good, Brooke "better than last week" but still "karaoke" and David A. "the bomb," while Syesha was "in the zone."
What happens next is the Very Best Paula Moment. Ever. She has hallucinated an entire second song performance by Jason before he's given it. She says she loves hearing his lower register in his first song, but feels he did not do enough with his second song or something. Everyone looks confused -- including Paula, who says, "Oh, I thought you sang twice."
"You're seeing the future, baby -- come back!" Seacrest says.
Simon jumps in while Paula tries to swat the bats out of her brain. Jason was "forgettable," David C. "just above average," Nanny Brooke "a nightmare," David A. "amateurish" and Syesha "old fashioned," he says, telling the Idolettes they'd better pull off the "performances of a lifetime" the next go-round.
He's apparently forgotten they're stuck with Neil Diamond tunes.
ROUND 2
Jason faces the biggest challenge any "American Idol" contestant has ever faced. He has to deliver a performance that's already been panned by one of the judges before he even sings a note. Cleverly, he picks "September Morn," which he sings in a register that can be heard only by prepubescent girls, who are voting for him by the millions, but not by any of the judges. Understandably, neither Randaula nor Simon is impressed. Frustrated, Simon even predicts Jason will look back at his performance tonight and "not know who this person is." Which is undoubtedly true, but for a different reason than Simon thinks and having mostly to do with those flowers we think he's been pulling out of his hair and eating.
David C., who sadly no longer bears any resemblance to the Coroner Munchkin -- a pox upon those "Idol" makeover artists! -- does "All I Really Need Is You." Randaula and Simon seem convinced they are looking at the next American Idol. David C. simpers.
Nanny Brooke's "I Am ... I Said" makes no sense when she changes "New York" to "Arizona" -- at the suggestion of Diamond -- because then she can't be "lost between two shores" living in Los Angeles. Sadly, this geographic blooper is lost on the judges who seem mostly relieved she remembers all the lyrics -- even the one about the deaf chair.
News Flash: Carly Simon has told the Associated Press Nanny Brooke should win "Idol" this year because a few weeks back when she sang Simon's "You're So Vain" she sang the song "so much better than I ever did or ever could." Then again, Carly Simon also says she doubts Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell or her ex, James Taylor, would have gone far on "Idol" because they had untrained voices. She's clearly senile.
Baby Elmo plays the Kristy Lee Cook Patriot Card, singing "Coming to America" while a U.S. flag waves in the background. He sounds like a performer at Disneyland. We resist the urge to imagine Disney cash cow Hannah Montana deflowering him in a Scary-Stage-Parent-arranged sex scandal. Randaula calls the patriot card his "zone" and Simon calls it "a smart choice of songs ... it ticked all the boxes."
Syesha's back to sing "Thank the Lord for the Nighttime" and once again she's barefoot, causing Randaula to begin blathering about her wonderful Broadway/theatrical place.
"This is officially the strangest show we've ever done," Simon says. Getting back to Syesha, he says she's demonstrated she's a very good "actress-singer" but predicts she's getting the hook this week. Safe bet given her frequent visits to the Stools of the Bottom 2 or 3.
I had to include this again-I think she is hilarious, and found her "round one" synopsis pretty darned funny. Sorry if I'm taking up too much space....hope you guys enjoy!
-
I noticed the same thing when she changed it to Arizona ...... and then had to sing "from shore to shore" that just didn't make sense.
Ok, seriously, WHAT IS WRONG WITH PAULA? What are the other boards saying? Is she drunk? On drugs? Meds? Something is seriously wrong with her and I think Simon is tired of her and just trying to hold it together and not look mean. I mean, we've heard he didn't totally get along with her but it seems like Simon knows SOMETHING is wrong with her!!!!!!
-
I loved both of the Davids and I love Neil Diamond so I enjoyed the show. I think it will be Brooke to go.
-
Hello everyone,
OH MY!!!!!! Wow another disappointing show, Val, I agree with you....
I really think Syesha has really picked it up the last two weeks, I had her written off weeks ago, she really is trying hard.
Brookes first song was a mess, yikes.... She did much better with the second.
Jason, oh poor good looking boy, songs were boring AGAIN..still love his face though.
David A, did nothing for me, either song
David Cook, first song boring, second okay...Still think he will win..
Okay now for Paula.....As you all know she just drives me crazy, every show...If you look back, I have always thought she was NUTS...What the heck was she doing??? Sleeping???? How the heck was Jason suppose to come back from already being judged poorly??? Maybe they see the kids perform in rehearsal, both songs, and thats when she took her notes....BUT for gosh sakes, let him do the songs, maybe he'll have a better performance than at practice...Paula really needs to go..I don't think I can watch another season with that BOOB (pardon the word) she is a waste of good skin and good hair....
I love the" Brooke on Love Boat " comment hehehheee!!! Still like her sound but she is not the top in this group.I'm dissapointed that I don't her Fantasa more on the radio, I must be listening to the wrong stations too. She was my favorite that year right from the beginning...I think of all my friends I was the only one who voted every week for her..Not everyone likes her sound, but I would go see her on Broadway in anything she is in...I wish Simon would finally get her name right, he still calls her FAN-TAS-SSSEEEEA grrrrr, gets me every time..
Well I won't be home for the show tonight so I'll be looking here to find out who was voted off...Has to be Jason or Brooke , my guess....
Hugs to all KLynn
-
Brooke changed the lyrics at the suggestion of Neil Diamond. He thought it would make it more personal for her.
I also get very upset when the Judges criticize the songs each week......THEY decide what artist will mentor the contestants.
I'm pulling for Brooke...........
-
Hey Madison---I thought I was one of the only ones pulling for Brooke, she doesn't seem to have a huge fan base...BUT after the last two weeks, I just don't know..I thought from the beginning she was the one to beat..She doesn't have much range, and I think that is going to be her down fall..The only other one I like is David Cook.. KLynn
-
I was a Brooke fan, too. However, I am losing respect for her after her claim that it was "her first time" losing a lyric. We will never know if "Every Breath You Take" was a flub of lyric or a flub of technique, but either way, YOU DON'T STOP and start over!!!!!
I do like her in front of a piano. She's the kind of musician I'd like to have playing while I clean the house....singable.....
