the FASHION thread

hi ladies - been super busy at work - just popped in to say hi - will read all the posts that I missed later. As for fashion, I have only one thing to add - I wore a girl's size 14 to the beach! It was perfect because the cups were made for a little girl or someone with no breasts such as myself. I fluffed them up a bit with some shower scrubbies and was ready to go! I already tore (piece of crap), so I will have to come up with something else before next vacation - sewn in pockets or something in a woman's suit.
love ya all -

Rose....I still wear flesh-colored pantyhose almost every day with skirts and city shorts. I can't imagine anyone thinking that they make me look older or dowdy or whatever. I wear them in 'suntan' and I think that they look make my legs look pretty fine. I say wear 'em if you like 'em. I hate bare legs in the office because I almost freeze to death in the A/C!

The other thing about bare legs is that your feet sweat and stick to your shoes. How is that attractive? And those old Peds are pretty much worthless as they stick out at the least opportune times. Talk about old lady looking!

I don't think that hose make one look dowdy, I am just of the opinion that I don't like the way they look on me and have never liked them. I'd rather go bare legged (ha - yes, Tina, my shoes stick to my feet, but they don't slip, which I like - now maybe they stink, who knows, I try to wear natural material shoes to eliminate that problem) or wear dark tights.
-
NBN- I never got the voicemail-- probably because I moved a year ago and changed my number. My sister still lives at the old address but rarely answers the phone or checks her machine... go figure.
I'll PM you my new info

Hey ladies,
We went to our old town last weekend (when I bought the body shapers). We basically shopped the entire weekend (totally out of character for dh) and got lots of new clothes, etc.
One of my favorite buys was a pair of RocketDog shoes-they are my new favorite. I love them, because you can wear them with shorts, capris, jeans, a long denim skirt......
So comfy, and you just slip 'em on!
The best part? They were only $20!!! Score! -
Hey Beth: I guess some "lucky" person got my v.m. message and said: "WTH!"
Looking forward to get your new info.

Okay, I've been out shopping and did buy a few things (shorts and tops) but little else. Here's the thing: I am distinctly underwhelmed by the clothes in the stores this season.
True, I have only a small Macy's and some little specialty shops in the local mall and precious little else nearby. I have to hoof it into the Boston area or down to Farmington, CT to find good selections. But, I am wondering if I will ever find anything even in those (inconvenient) locations.
What's your impression? I think the clothes look exceedingly "common" and the materials are cheesy in the extreme. Is there no such thing as elegance anymore? Oh, I sound so old.
Well, I'm just not the "coochy coochy type." (Think Charro/Xavier Cougat.) That's what seems to be in all the stores. Blah. I have money in my hot, little hands and nothing to buy!

I work in Farmington CT!!!!!
We have to shop!
-
Beth...so sorry I didn't get out to LI this weekend...which is just as well - I ended up with a nasty sinus infection..hope your passover was nice
-
I have a bit of a shopping bug myself. I just ordered a few tops from Boston proper. I hate going to the mall lately, and I'd rather order from a catalogue, but I'm unsure about ordering bottoms, b/c I never know how they will fit.
I've been looking a TON of dresses online. I'm trying to find a dress for my engagement party. I don't want to wait until August, which is one month before, b/c by then, all the summery stuff will be picked through, and the fall stuff will be out in the stores.
My engagement party is one week after labor day, and its a Sunday Brunch, so I want a cute little dress.
I'm IN LOVE with all the maxi dresses in tropical prints, and I'm leaning towards something like that, just because the wedding is in Jamaica, and well, b/c it's my party, and I'll dress however I want...LOL
The colors for the engagment party are Black, White, and pink. All the linens are Black and White, and all the flowers are different shades of pink, with green at the base of the vase on every table...
I'll post a few links of dress ideas here, and you can all give me your feedback.
thanks!!!
marissa I hope you're feeling better.

this white dress COULD SOOOOO be my wedding dress
or this
-
Beth -- I like the second one better ... a bit more dressy and not quite as gauzy/see through! -
look at this in the green color-- is that crazy for my engagement party?
-
The link didn't work for me, Beth!
I love that first white dress, btw. Beautiful, elegant and understated!I'm buying new clothes, but not for fun...more for necessity. My arse is growing by the second, and I HATE it.
-
Beth, it comes up as 'no longer available' could you give us a style number?
-
Tina - I'm with you - so far singularly unimpressed with what I have seen in the stores. Of course, I don't shop any to speak of. . .
Dotti - whoa, did you SCORE! Wish I had that outlet near me!

Beth - that VS link did not come up, but on your other post, I like the 2nd dress - nice cut and fabric. Very pretty.
ugh - I need to shop as well for summer stuff and have no desire. I think I will order a bathing suit from Title 9 online since my one from vacation tore. May head over to TJ Maxx in a bit to see if they have anything. I saw these awesome shoes at Macy's online. So cool. Here they are. What do you think?

Raye that gladiator type shoe with several buckles is really is a big trend this season, so if they feel comfy, and the price is right, then go for it...
-
Beth, I like the dress - and if you chose PINK accessories (strappy heels and beads and maybe even flowers in you hair) it would be simply made for your party scheme.
Raye - I love TitleIX's stuff. So how did your tan go on your vacation anyway? I like the heel on that shoe but the rest is entirely too clunky for me, especially for summer. But trendy is NOT my middle name when it comes to footwear.
Lisa
-
Beth - you'd look great in that style of dress you posted - very flowing and fitted at the same time. That dress is pure summer on a tropical island...
The price of the shoes is good - I'll have to go try them on to make sure I can walk, but the platform appears pretty solid.
Lisa - Yes, Title9's bathing suits stay put and hold up year after year. ah, the tan...I am very tan and I love it - yes, as bad as it is, I just love it. I even snuck once to the tanning bed for a boost after returning from Florida - totally psycho. I tell myself this is my last hurrah for tanning - no more. yeah right...
-
beth - didn't answer the question - no, with the theme of your wedding, I do not think the green dress is crazy for your engagement party at all! It's your party!
-
Okay, so I really love the dress. I called my mom, and talked about maybe changing the floral theme for the party. I'm not going crazy with changes, but we may change the flowers to birds of paradise, and do sand and sea shells on the tables.
Okay, so all this dress shopping made me want to work out. I got a spin bike. CAN WE SAY HOLY IMPOSSIBLE BATMAN??? OMG. This machine is going to whip my butt into shape so fast it won't know what hit it.
But, for an added bonus, I may utilize some connects for a little Lipo a month or two before the big day.
Yeah that's right. I said it. L-I-P-O.
-
Abba and Emelee - I also shop at Westfarms and I have to say, the styles this year are hideous and all the same. Too many "60's-bad trip" prints and tops that look like they should fit loose but are cut for girls with no hips. I did find a couple of cute tops at TJMaxx. And I got a great Travelers buttondown dress on sale at Chicos. Have you ever been to Clay's in Avon? They have some brands you won't see at the mall, not cheap but not over-the-top pricey. They specialize in comfortable, casual styles.
Wah, I'm a displaced New Yorker and I miss all the little specialty shops. CT has no variety.
Beth - love the green dress.
-
Oh!!! Beth, have you had lipo done before? Are you happy with the results it gives? How costly is it?
I'm also on the verge of getting a "tummy tuck," for medical reasons. How funny, I know. I have a LOT of scar tissue on my abdomen from my medication injections over the past 12 years. The doctor said he could remove the dead tissue by means of a tummy tuck. I'd have a normal tummy, and a flat tummy as a result! That is when I'd be curious to try lipo on my fat elsewhere.
What do you think?! I'm scared of another surgery.
-
I shop at Westfarms too (occasionally). Glad to hear it's a bad season since I am trying to save money- helps not to be tempted. I often do better with the consignment shops- more variety- styles from past seasons that work for me- not to mention the prices.
-
I've been buying maternity clothes...so I guess I'm missing the bad clothes all around that everyone keeps talking about - they have cute stuff for pregnant people..lol
I do a lot of clothes shopping online..so that's where I get variety
Beth..I love love love the green dress and birds of paradise and everything else..if you need some seashell themed items..let me know - I'm overrun with them from my wedding!
I love the 1st white dress - you can add a sheath underneath so it's not so sheer..you will be sooo beautiful!!!
BTW I got seashells in bulk from a place in FL - I got the white mix...and saved $$$ - let me post for you
http://www.shellhorizons.com/products.asp?Category=7
I wish I had my seashell arch for you ... although to ship it to Jamaica..that never would've worked lol

Lipo is part of revisions with stage two of my reconstruction, so yeah, I've had it before.
It's kind of gross, and it doesn't make you lose weight. That's a big misconseption.
LIPO best suits a person if they have an uneven shape, or a fat protrusion that just doesn't sit right. I wish I could snap a picture and show you my right hip. If you look at my body facing forward, and I grab onto my sides, the left side, I can only grab a pinch of fat, but the right side, I can grab a hand full. It's just not even. I know that sounds so weird.
And the right thing to do, would be to get in the gym and tone, and burn off the fat. But I plan to use LIPO as a little extra help.
Now a tummy tuck, that's a whole different story. Obviously, I've had one with my breast reconstruction, and that requires a TON of down time to heal and recover. It's a pretty big surgery. Women do it all the time though, so if it's what you want, I say go for it.
Before reconstruction I was anti plastic surgery. Now, I feel so different about the situation. Granted, I'm not into big fake lips, face lifts that pull your face so tight a la Joan Rivers... that stuff is just gross.
I am focusing on two hard to tone areas. The biggest being the fat under the bra lin on my back. If I do weight training for my back, I risk getting even broader, and bulkier looking, b/c I am by no means a small build girl.
We can talk more over PM about that if you want...
I'm glad you guys like the green dress. I ordered it with two other dresses, and we'll see how they look. I got them at the size I'm at now, and hopefully if I drop 15 pounds in 4 months I will get it taken in.
