Oh, goodie, goodie, goodie!!!!!! He is such a peach to suprise you and your family gets points for keeping the secret!
the ring is amazing and I agree with not spending the bank on a wedding---honeymoon and wedding in the same place---great idea.
I see you in a spaghetti strap top and maybe an empire waist bottom with a huge split up the side (for coolness). Or it could be fitted at the waist, either way, with multiple narrow ribbons attached and the ends long and flowing--at the waist or under the bust. Multicolor ribbons would be beautiful in the breeze.
And then----barefoot! Maybe a toe ring? ankle bracelet??
As you can see, we are all thrilled for you!!!

Beth...
Jeremy wore a white linen suit - untucked and unbuttoned...I will try to post links of our outfits or see if my wedding pics are still up online - I'm supposed to be getting the disc next week so if I do, I can also post the pro pics which are beautiful - us walking on the beach...I had a lot of little details...mother of pearl shell bracelet and purse - starfish beaded shoes for the reception and shell bouquet centerpieces...let me see if I have some to post today and I'll update with more hopefully soon
-
-
These pics do not do it justice so next week I will post the pro pics...or actually - I will scan the ones I have into my PC tomorrow so I can upload them tomorrow.
-
My dress was made with silk chiffon - it was really delicate and beautiful in the wind - almost flowed like seaweed
And my veil was the same material - 12 ft long and flowed in the wind....
Here's some more pics...
-
-
Ah, man, Marisa - there's that gorgeous cake again!!! Your pictures are beautiful. Can I have a piece of cake?
Beth,
I just wanted to mention to you that it is warm and humid in Jamaica in April - wouldn't you want a material that is really light? My wedding gown was strange material - it felt a little like paper and it was so light. I can't remember what the name of the material was (it's been 22 years now), but it was great for me because it was a hot day in June when I got married.
-
Beth - what a touching story about your father's phone call. I think a light dress sounds fabulous - something simple and flowing - maybe spaghetti straps as Dottie suggested or strapless with some flat cool sandles to wear at the reception. I agree - barefoot on the beach. My girlfriend got married on the beach at Tybee Island (near Savannah, GA) and the sand in the shoes was big pain - we ended up taking them off and then putting them back on for the reception.
Oh, this is going to be fun!!! if you don't mind our suggestions/recommendations...
emelee - your pics are just beautiful! What a lovely bride. And that cake - wow.
Raye
-
Maris-- thank you so much for posting these. Your cake is beyond AMAZING too. I think Matt would look so good in that linen outfit.
I'll have to show him the pics later.
There's a dress that's in the victorias secret catalogue, and it's not online, cause I want to post the link, but something like that in white is what I want... I need to try to find a link... ARGGGH.
I'll be back....
-
Beth, your wedding plans sound perfect. Just you and your honey, special people and the perfect setting. So jazzy yet so peaceful. GREAT decision.
Maris, is that you Emelee? I am confused. Anyway, you made a beautiful bride, your husband looks a doll, the dress, the cake, the whole shebang were beautiful. Of course, we'd love to see more!
Tina
-
hehe..Tina..yes my name is Marisa
My screen name is the phonetic spelling of my initials - MLE
EM-EL-EE
Beth..I thought finding the suit would be so hard but we found it in Saks..and it fit perfect and we bought it...very easy but expensive..Brooks Brothers also carried white linen
I can't wait to see the VS link..if you have a scanner you can scan the photo in and then upload it...
-
my scanner is on the fritz-- which is ridiculous, b/c the printer and fax work, and it's all the same machine.
I literally have the picture of this dress in all the new catalogues, yet it's not on line yet.
It's one of the maxi dresses-- its totally the style that I want. It's white with black and pink stripes, so if I were to have it made, I'd get it in all white, with the sash around the empire waste a different color.
Its either linen or cotton-- the catalogue is in the other room.
There's a few other pictures I've been ripping out. I think I'm going to have something made rather than shop to try to find it.
But that's still far away. I've got to focus on the dress for the engagement party first. Once again, I saw it in the new VS catalogue, but it's not online yet. I'll check back there next week.
Did you say you were coming to LI for passover? We should totally meet up.
-
Congratulations, Beth!!!
Your plans sound wonderful. My girlfriend was married in Jamaca - she had a guazy calf-length dress and he wore linen slacks and shirt -both were barefoot and it looked great (I just got to see pictures, sigh, they did the cruise/wedding thing and was just the two of them - she's not a "public" person.)
The ring is gorgeous - best of luck to you and your man!!!
-
Beth - what a magnificent RING!
All of your plans to date are so exciting. The two of you making your vows on the beach in Jamaica - how perfect! Just remember that pure linen wrinkles like crazy - you might want to go for a blend unless you plan on standing for the duration.
Can't wait for more details!
Lisa
-
Yes...I will be there for Passover so I'll call you - I should be in Wed night to Sun night...
I also had my dress made...I didn't try it on until 1 week before the wedding..but I knew the style I wanted and it worked..it was the lady that made Amber's dress from Survivor - not expensive though!
I can't wait to see your dress ideas..and engagement dress
-
-
Beautiful, Marisa! Were your flowers cala lilies?
Tina

For ladies with curves: I've just found a brand of jeans that fit beautifully! they even make me look like I have a butt.
I found them for $10 at Marshalls, but also on ebay. They are Cosmopolitan jeanswear. (on ebay leave off the"wear")
They are also streach and aren't tight in the wrong places.
Just so excited when I put them on today and felt great in them.. they even have fancy stuff on the back and front pockets, designer like. the waistband is not too high for me and they still fit in the hips and legs. I am long waisted and usually feel the need to roll over the waistband.
-
Beth - which VS catalog is it in? The one with the girl in the gray bra on front?
Maris - simply gorgeous. You are so beautiful.
Raye
-
Raye in the newest catalogue its on the back cover. It's called a maxi striped dress, its like $40. It is white with black and pink vertical stripes, and is floor length.
Obviously, it's not what I would wear, but I love the shape of it, and the way it flows. It's definitely something I would bring to a dress maker for an idea.
-
Beth-OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't read the fashion thread for a few days and I totally miss that you are freakin' engaged?!?!?!?!?!!?
WOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats, and that ring is AWESOME, STUNNING and AMAZING.Marisa, your pics are incredible!
I won't stay away from this thread anymore! Don't want to miss any more news!!! Deb
-
Ohh..I think I threw that VS away
Tina..they were orchids
- very delicate and extremely hard to use in a round bouquet - she had to thread each bud separately and use hydrengrea inside to build up volume..but it came out so pretty..
Beth..they have birds of paradise - flowers - in the caribbean - they are gorgeous

have any of you ever been to one of these fashion events?
-
Well, today's the first time I've looked at this thread...
WOW!!!!!!! Congratulations, Beth! (and Matt!) Your ring is so gorgeous, it was GENIUS that Matt asked you on HIS birthday (so sweet!) and I'm so touched about your dad's phone call. I'm so happy for you!!!!
And Marisa, you and hubby and clothes and cake and flowers are all gorgeous!
-
Thanks
-
Never heard of Shecky's. Looks fun.
Someone made a comment on the makeup thread yesterday about not looking old. I think that would be a great discussion here. How to dress young while not looking like a fool if you are over the hill like me. I often see middle-aged or older women who are dressing to look young and they are such a sight! Just because you are not overweight at 60 does not mean you should wear what a 25 year old would. How about some guidelines and suggestions for those of us who want to look "current" without looking ridiculous?

So my mom has a friend who's kid is my age, and I swear she dresses in her daughters clothes.
Too much dark makeup, her clothes are too trendy.
I don't think if a women gets older she should dress matronly by any means, but when I see my moms friend wearing the latest trends from forever 21, I take issue with that.
Although, my mom looked so unbelievable cute the other day. SHe wore those wide legged trousers that are really in for this season, with a beautiful empire waste white long sleeve cotton shirt, and a her necklace was a leather rope with different silver hearts she collects when she goes antique-ing.
She looked so youthful, and hip, and I couldn't get over it. Her shoes were to die for. Matt thinks my mom is going to trip and fall b/c she wears such high shoes. I say go for it, and I only wish I could fit into her size 6 1/2 shoes.
Even dressed so cute and youthful, she still didn't look like she ws trying to dress like she was in her twenties...
Oprah recently did a show about dressing in your 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's, and 60's. It was very interesting.
-
Beth, your mom sounds really great. Yeah, that's the look I'm after, sans the high high heels. I'd kill myself. Right now I'm more LL Bean than I would like. I think that after tomorrow I will go out and start buying a new bunch of clothes. Cannot wait.
Saw that Oprah show but the 50's and 60's gals looked way too old for me. And sophisticated. Didn't you think the 60's woman looked like your grandmother? Well, not yours, but you know what I mean. I'm 60 and I'm nowhere NEAR that old. LOL I wish I trusted this public forum or I would post some pics. I'd love to show off my curly "do," too.
Maybe I'll post some links of looks I like and you girls can say whether or not they are age appropriate. Or would you really need to see me in order to do that?
Anyway, talk to you guys later next week.

My mom is 57, and she looks about 10 years younger. It's because her skin is great and she avoids the sun like the plague. She takes a ridiculous amount of vitamins and calcium, and fossimax seems to be helping her bones.
You'd never catch my mom in shorts, or a short skirt, but she wears great long skirts with pretty tops, and always accessorizes appropriately. She's just cute. Her whole life she had a short crew cut and it was super dark, almost jet black... and as she got older she went blonder and blonder, and now has a really cute curly do that's a million shades of blond-- but they look really good.
I think she's overly concerned with facial wrinkles. Maybe it's because I'm too young to understand, or worry about it, but I think she sees ten times as many wrinkles on her own face, then anyone on earth would ever notice.
Is this my destiny??? LOL
-
The topic of what to wear to look age appropriate hits home for me, as I am a 50 year old mom with a 7 year old! I just found the cutest tops at Kohl's. They're from the Simply Vera label, one that Vera Wang designed just for Kohl's. The shirts are long sleeve with a gathered, scoop-neck top, and they flow long over the hips. They make me look thin (yea!) and hit my chest just right, actually making it look like my boobs are bigger than their normal size AA! I got it in both the purple and the black.
