I found this article on Yahoo about dressing to look slimmer. Thought it would be appropriate here. The only thing I object to is the tucking in the blouse, I am very short waisted and if I tuck in my blouse, the waistband is 3 inches below my boobs - well maybe 4.

ah, Beth, I must  have thrown that VS away as well. Your mom sounds awesome and certainly must have passed on her fashion sense to you.

Tina - yes, I mentioned on the make up thread about the book I ordered "How Not to Look Old." It also talks about dressing, not just make up. It should be here any day now. Talk to us next week? Does that mean it's that time?? Good luck - I will be thinking of you!!!! You will do great.

I have a  friend who shops religiously at Kohl's; I haven't been there in years, but will have to check it out. I am TRYING to save money and not buy so many clothes, but a look at my summer wardrobe the other day convinced me I have to buy at least a few things.

Sheila, just saw your post. Yes, some tops just do not look good tucked in. I love that blazer look in the J Crew pic.

    Hi everyone

I had a problem with getting clothes long enough!!

I might be spending time in rehab. after brain surgery,

and was asking how to find lounging stuff long enough so if

I spend time in a wheelchair, My pants wont come up to my shins!

I was told a great advice, I am going to go to walmart and stores

like that and get Mens clothes. just thought i would share with you

even if your inseam is 34 you can still look good for rehab.

if anyone else has any advice i would be greatful!

    I also have long arms!

Hi Puppy - I've been looking online at catologs for tall yoga pants, track suits, etc., and "tall" is considered a 34 inseam. Would that be too short for you long, tall one?

Maire - It sounds as though you had a unilateral mast? I had bilateral so I am even, so it's not as difficult. Go to the section on this board about alternatives to reconstruction/prosthetics - someone started a thread about strapless bras and our Laura GTO had some good ideas.  Best of luck!

Do you definitely want to go strapless for this affair?

I think Nordtroms carries lovely seperates, that are classic in style, and will work with prosthetics.

Maire what about a shawl that will go with the dress and add a great brooch.  My arms look like crap with all the scars and veins collapsed and from the allergic reaction to the tape etc. Plus they have cellulite now, darn. So I'm going to be wearing shawls, light cotton tunics that sort of thing.  But I will have to get the soup cans out and see if I can fix them up a bit I have so many sleevless tops I love and miss wearing. But then again, winter isn't ending so maybe I can stay covered up.  Beth congratulations on the ring I just checked this thread today, did you post a picture.  I love that your life is going great it gives me hope.

My SO and I have been thinking about getting married aboard ship and having a party afterward. It would be the third marriage for each of us.  Nordstom's is less than a mile away from our condo.  Those dresses are gorgeous and I can't believe the prices. Seems like there should be another digit.  I was on the fence about getting married having cancer and all but I feel well and am NED for what I hope is a long time.  Beth I think you just pushed be over the edge. I may say "yes."

PS - I did go to Nordstom's on Saturday and bought a beautiful, white, short, silk jacket with a large black beaded button, a black dress and black slacks (Misook)  It looked great.  I spent more than I wanted to but what the heck? It would look great paired with a black and white tux.  My SO asked what I wanted for my birthday next week.  I had my eye on a black, red and white sweater jacket but it was very expensive ($400+). We'll see what happens next.  It's far better than waiting for test results.

Wow, am I the only Chico's person here?  I love the vibrant colors at Chico's.  I find that as I get older (I am 60) my face looks kind of "washed out."  Those bright colors at Chico's seem to brighten things up.  They are a bit pricey, but they have good sales.  I am fairly small (6-8), but Chico's has lots for larger women also.  I also just love their jewelry.  I go about once a week.

    Hi Cheryl,

No, you're not the only Chico's person here.  I must own at least 30 of their pieces which wash, dry and travel beautifully.  I don't think their prices are outrageous and I like their jewelry too. Do you get their coupons?

"understated elegance" - what was up with the question, "how would your friends describe you"? None of those two combinations fit me completely at all! I picked fun and fascinating. I am not fascinating my any means, but maybe fun (I guess).

I'm 'understated elegance' like you, Raye. Or I might be if I ever get out of the Cancer Poorhouse again. Frankly, the purveyors of this quiz lost all credibility when they listed "Coco Channel"(sic). And this is supposed to be a fashion quiz? Where are their editors?!? [cringe]

I just took the quiz- I'm "understated elegance." The stores where I seem to do the best are Ann Taylor, Eileen Fisher, and for some things J.Jill (some of their fashions are too baggy or frilly for my taste). I do a lot of consignment shop buying and often get my favorite name brands at a discount that way. Helps since we are still a bit hurting in the $ department from my not working while in tx last year.

Can you go to Ann Taylor's website and post a pic of the cami, so we can see it? sounds very pretty.

The cool thing about being a jeans girl, is that you can actually take a sexy beaded tank, pair it with your favorite jeans, and rock some sexy heels.

But, for this special occasion, go for pants.  I would walk right into ann taylor- and tell the girl working there you need pants to match the top-- they will already know what it should be paired with.

Then, head over to the make up thread for the latest glam tips- and you'll be all set for your weekend getaway.

Definitely go with heels- and then keep them on when you get back to the hotel...(tee hee) of course- there's the mojo thread for that...

ok...sorry forgot to say...ummm... was in Niagara falls when I bought it...may have to go online... but for heels... not many in size 4's.... I will pair it with maybe nice black pants and some colorful jewelry?  what about a jacket?.. long or short?   and make up? I don't do that either, just foundation... so I am soooo lost....I guess I should stay on the "farm"....

thanks will go to Ann Taylors online place... whoo hooo.... got all the mojo stuff taken care of, that's the easy part...lol

Size 4 shoe, you must be tiny, girl. I agree with Beth --some pants would look great. Is the cami fitted? If so, I'd go with some wide leg black pants. With the cami being beaded, I wouldn't overdo on the jewelry, maybe some nice long earrings and a couple simple cool bracelets. Definitely, if you do jacket, make it a short one.

If you are dressing up, do some makeup that fits your style. Make up your eyes -  I think some mascara, nice liner and shadow would be gorgeous with a light lipstick.
