I'm here! Is everyone recovering from their holiday weekend, or what? I heard that Ulla is taking a break from the boards for a while. I'm guessing just until her rads are over and she has more free time to post. Plus, if she's like me, she's probably dog tired from the rads themselves.
bbl everyone.
Hugs,
Karen

Hi Sue! We were posting at the same time. I'm glad that the chemo isn't hitting you as hard this time. I know what you mean about all the ladies we've lost here recently. Just another passed on yesterday. It just absolutely infuriates me! I keep asking God to help me understand why such wonderful ladies are being taken so young. I hate this freakin' disease!!!! I just know that you'll be fine, Sue. You're too feisty to let it get you! Plus, your tx's have been SO aggressive. You've kicked some serious bootface butt!!!!
Hugs,
Karen

Hey ...lol....you know what ...when I call stinky bootface "boil in a bag" I meant... boil in a bag as in heat it up and kill it in the bag...HOWEVER... it could mean Boil in the bag as.... in a boil/growth .... hahahah

Hi everyone - a very busy day today so I'll be brief. Sue - wanted to send you my love and and to tell you that I think you are wonderful. I am so glad you are feeling a bit better. That is so great that Zippy is feeling better - you are such a responsible pet owner - I wish everyone could be as kind and caring.
Karen, you must be so tired - my heart goes out to all you and all the other beautiful sisters here who are enduring treatments and coping with stinking bootface.
Would love to linger here but have to rush off. You are all in my thoughts and prayers though.
Love and hugs to you all.

Sue,
tomorrow with
AE

Yes, it has been quiet, Sheila. I didn't want to bore everyone with my many attempts to undam my butt, LOL. Such a "minor" s/e when others have things that seem so much more painful. Mine just seems annoying.
Sat around my house all day, waiting for the Verizon FiOs installation my brother arranged for. They ended up messing up the order, came at 3 pm and only installed half the stuff needed. They'll have to come back tomorrow. I hope my internet isn't messed up in the process. They're supposed to leave my phone and DSL line alone, but you know how guys just can't be trusted not to touch somethings.
Anyone want to discuss the merits of different internet connections?

WOW, what in the world did they put in your IV, Sue, love? Hmmm, I want some of that. You are the best you have ever been, and rounding the corner, heading for home!
Won't be long now! I hope you haven't forgotten how it feels to be normal, get bored, sleep til noon. Ahhh, sweet precious "ordinary day".
OH MY AE, That bootface, boil in a bag is MARVELOUS!!!!!
You are so strong, our English Rose Amazon Princess Sue!
Hugs, and kisses, Shirlann -
Where on earth did you find that face, AE?? That is SO how I picture bootface!!! Blechhhhhhh!!! UUUUUUGGGGLLLYYY!!!! LOL!!!!!!!
Love and hugs to all!
Karen
-
HAHAHAHAHA - glad you ladies like it!!!
Sue - chemo brain strikes again!!! What made me think you had a treatment tomorrow??? OIYEE!!
FYI - Shirlann- someone on the Moving Byond thread is looking for you. I forgot her name - sorry!!
AE
-
AE - brilliant pics - just so appropriate! I thought Sue's next treatment was tomorrow too - Sue - weren't you going to have half doses more often? Mmm - and I don't even have chemo brain as an excuse - I'll just have to fall back on menopause brain! Anyway, if you have 2 weeks to go, I'm hoping that you will continue to build your strength so that you can really kick a*# when you have it done next.
Loved your latest tirade against bootface - you just get more and more creative with your language! I have some colourful ones too but my post would be sure to be deleted if I wrote them down.
Love to you all - AE, Sue, Karen, Shirlann, Nancy, Wren, Judie, Ulla, Valsul, Angie, Mia, Jule, Melody, Sheila, Lisa, Lucy, Ann and all of you great women.
Jane
-
Nancy - just a few suggestions: dried figs, prunes, psillium, pears, lots of water. When I flew overseas last year, I had a similar problem - I really sympathise!
Jane
-
Nancy, After my surgeries I also had the problem because of the anestetic and pain pills, I found that drinking Apple juice and eating fresh fruit helped me in addition to plenty of water.
AE, I love the picts.
Sue, glad to see you are feeling better than previously, you are well on the road to recovery.
Sheila
-
Thank-you everyone for the suggestions. Things are "developing" LOL. I came into work, figure I could wait for developments here as well as at home. I was just a little nervous about my commute (it was 1-3/4 hrs today, all on public trans.)
I think the trick is to hit the next round running hard before the treatment. I'll start gearing up just before I start the steroids next time, and keep it up through the treatment and for a few days afterwards.
Everyone has such different reactions...from one extreme to the other depending on the tx, your own body, and it's ability to handle the meds. I'm so glad you ladies are here to tell me that there are many ways to handle this, and I'll find the right one for me.
Sheila...yes, apple juice is my friend ;-). I'm not an OJ drinker (too acidic). Sipping apple juice is my idea of being lazy and recuperative.

Another quiet night - What's Up???
AE
-
Hi AE and everyone,
It is quiet - everybody must have had a big day and maybe gone to bed early?
AE - any news on the biopsy front yet? How long will you have to wait?
My youngest son is travelling in SE Asia. He was invited to dinner by a family and accepted. He is worried that he has offended his hosts because he couldn't eat the main course - boiled dog!
Hugs everone,
Jane xxx
-
BOILED DOG!!!! OMG - I DON"T BLAME HIM!!!!! I would high tail my butt out of there so fast...................... That's just wrong!!
Finally got the call today about the biopsy - it's next Tuesday - which is good because UB doesn't have his next treatment until next Thursday. He has to come with me cause I'm getting knocked out.
AE
-
Oh AE - what a relief to finally have a date for the biopsy! I will keep you both in my prayers.
gb
-
Boiled DOG????? That's horrible, Jane! Oh my gosh--I wouldn't care who I offended. I'd probably vomit!!!!!!!! Don't they have dogs for pets there? How on earth can they eat them?? That makes me want to cry.
I'm glad you're all set for your biopsy, AE. I just wish it was more simple and that they didn't have to put you out for it. I'll pray that it goes smoothly and for B9 results!!
Nancy, I'm glad things are "moving" a bit. LOL!! I'd never been constipated in my life until chemo. I've always had irritable bowel with the opposite of constipation. It's been an experience, that's for sure!
Hugs to all,
Karen
-
Sorry if I upset you Karen. I agree - the thought of eating dog is both disgusting and sad to me. I suppose those people who eat it would say that we eat sheep and cattle, chickens and fish and so what's wrong with dog?! I have had pet lambs and calves and I loved them... Mmm - interesting philosophical things there. Maybe we should all be vegetarians?
This is the first time this week I have had a chance to get on here - I had a busy Easter. Now I should be doing my homework for my course so I had better go and do it. Hopefully, I will get a bit of time later in the week.
Love to all,
Jane
-
I understand what you're saying Jane. That's why I could never have a pet cow, chicken, pig, etc... My mom tells a story about when she was a little girl and she had a snow white duck. It was her pet and she loved it. One day she came home from school to find her mom fixing duck for dinner. It was her pet duck! Can you imagine how upsetting that must have been?
Happy studying!!
Hugs,
Karen
-
Karen - that is so sad - your poor mother! And the poor duck - it would be like eating your relation!! I grew up on a farm and when my pet lambs grew up they would tend to wander away and join the flock. I always insisted on keeping a careful eye on things when my dad decided to send the sheep to market - no way was he ever allowed to send my pets! So they just bummed around, eating grass and not giving a lot back to the family in economic terms - just some wool once a year! But they had such personalities - pet sheep are different to the rather dull ones in the flock. One of them (his name was Imp) used to play hide and seek with us - he was so funny and quite bright for a sheep!
Must get to my homework!
Hugs to all

It does seem like quite a few women are MIA. I wonder if it's in the air. I'm feeling too depressed to care about saying anything and feeling guilty about being so wrapped up in my own issues.
That said, I'll tell you my stories...Karen, I can relate to your mother's story. My grandparents had a small farm. I loved, loved, loved the animals and named them all. The cows were dairy cows, so I thought I was safe. Then an adorable little bull was born to my favoite cow Susannah (she used to let me sit on her back). I was about 7 years old. That little guy would lick my patent leather Sunday shoes to a blinding shine as I stood on the lowest fence rail. Then one Sunday dinner at grandma's, she served veal instead of chicken. I had no idea what veal was until my mean, mean older sister told me I had eaten my little bull calf. I have never knowingly eaten veal since then.
My Chinese DIL was talking about having eaten both dog and cat. She didn't give it a thought back then because no one kept dogs or cats as pets. It was the same as our food animals. Since living in this country (15 years), she has bonded to pets and is horrified to think anyone could think of using them as food. It's very cultural.
Jane, you must have had very special parents.
AE, Good timing on the biopsy! I'll be with you.
Everyone else...hang in there and pop up as soon as you can!!!
(Judie sinks back into her black hole, feeling sorry for herself, and won't come out until she can appreciate all that she does have.)
-
I am glad to see a little activity on the thread this morning. My mom also grew up raising chickens, beef, and pigs and talks about slaughtering them for the dinner table.
Talking about unusual foods. My dad would hunt on the farm where we lived in OH and we would have pheasant or rabbit occasionally. One time we had a visiting pastor and our regular pastor and his family over for dinner and mom served ham and rabbit. Our pastor's wife decided she would try the rabbit and as she was chewing the small bite, her husband started talking about the pet rabbit that they used to have behind their house and the big brown eyes . . . she had to spit out the bite because she could not swallow it.
Several years ago, my DH was out of work and his cousin gave us all the venison (deer) that we wanted, he loves to hunt but his wife does not like to cook it. It kept meat on the table. I learned how to cook venison several ways and when we have pot-luck dinners at church several people ask which dish is mine and if it is venison. I have a great venison BBQ recipe that my DH helped me to refine, as well as stew and roast. If you did not know it was venison, you would not know it. The cousin still tells me to come and get meat out of his freezer when it starts getting full.
AE - great timing on the biopsy, hoping for b-9
Judie, don't slink back into the hole, you have all of us to brighten you up.
Sheila

Morning everyone, at work today. Things are better, in fact, as I type, I'm eating a whole wheat bagel with vegetable cream cheese. I hope I don't regret it later, LOL.
I love the farm stories. I worked for a guy who visited his grandparents' farm all summer long when he was a kid. The first time he realised he was eating one of the creatures from the barnyard was a real eye opener for him, but he decided it wasn't worth going vegetarian over. He really loved that roasted chicken.
Being the suburban/city-girl that I am, I've never had to slaughter my own food, or even dress a carcass, other than some cheap chicken that needed some extra plucking. I think it's all a state of mind, however, and if I really had to do it to survive, I could.
Speaking of cultural eats, has anyone watched Andrew Zimmern or Anthony Boudain on the cable networks? Now they eat some very strange foods. Beating cobra heart actually makes cat sound palatable.
-
Nancy - glad to hear you are doing better.
Do one of those guys go out into the wild by themselves and show you how to survive??? My nephew loves that show and made me watch it once - I was hiding my face most of the show!!!
Hey ladies - been meaning to ask - are you still watching Idol?? What do you think??? I like the rocker guy - not sure what is name is.
Lisa - where are you???
AE
-
If memory serves - I think today is Ulla's last day of rad's -
