jeanne, I think the undereye bags can only be helped with surgery to remove the fat pads. But, if you use a product that temporarily tightens that area it does help.
Then, use Smashbox's Photofinish primer in the original, colorless version over your face. Thin layer, not goopy. It fills in the wrinkles. Then, when you put your concealer and/or foundation over it, it doesn't sink into the lines so much. Ask many of the ladies here; it really works.

Thanks for the tip. I'll try that and let you know how it works.

I realized why I look like a clown/hooker when I wear eyeliner: it's because I NO LONGER HAVE EYE LIDS! LOL the top lids droop down over the lids from age/gravity...however...there is a solution. It's called PLASTIC SUGERY! lol I miss my eye lids!

-
jeanne46....I think it's the original or clear Photofinish that everyone likes. I've yet to buy any because of a dismal $$$ situation at the moment, but it's definitely in my future.
The very best concealer I've found so far is DermaBlend. It stays all day and if you mix it with a good moisturizer before applying it, it goes on smoothly. Some of the other girls here have recommended others like Laura Mercier and i thought I'd try that if I can't find Dermablend when I need it (though I bought my first tube online and it came pretty quickly, if I recall).
I love all of your suggestions about lifting the eyes. I have some great brushes from Sephora but would definitely need lessons to do all that you've learned to do, Beth. I'm always looking for the quick fix, but the older I get, the less effective the quickies are (makeup quickies, that is
)!~Marin

Laura, a friend of mine has a sil whose grown daughters gave her an eyelid lift for either her birthday or Christmas recently. Those girls know what women want!
BTW, what's the GTO for? As in the song from the 60's? Ah, I remember it well (a la Maurice Chevalier in Gigi).
Oh, the brushes. Yes, I would definitely be amenable to a brush usse lesson. I can vouch for the importance of smudging with those little pointy sponge things so can imagine what a good brush technique can do.
I think I've never mentioned another technique I use when I get bored with my standard eyeliner routine. I use a dark brown Clinique powder eyeshadow for liner, applied with the sharp edge of the sponge applicator, moistened, that comes with the product. It gives a sufficiently dark but slightly smudgy line that is just right. I think it'd also be nice in a very dark, midnight blue.

Hi Jeanne,
The only way to correct eyebags is a plastic surgery. I am exploring this option right now. All products can help just a little bit by providing reflective pigmentations to soften the light. But the undereye bags are caused by concerntration of fat in one place and what can any skincare do about it ? One thing that I learned that I might try first is to inject Restyline right under my bags to even it out because of my particular cheekbone structure. Originally I was going to have my eyes fixed during my DIEO stage 2 but chickened out mostly because I was concerned that although my PS was exepereinced he currently only preformed that procedure a few times a month. I went for a consult to opthomological PS and was impressed with him. Now I need to find the courage and recovery time to go with it

Ladies,
I went to a Nordstrom beauty event last Saturday and that was a blast . I had a makeover at a Trish McCovey counter. I found 2 new products that I really liked. One is their eyeshadow base: it lightens up your eyes and keeps your eye shadow for the long time. And the second is a lip duo "Barely there", it consists of a lipstick pencil (the actual lipstick in the pencil) and a lipgloss. It looks so soft and natural.
-
Oops. Guess what I'm calling bags under my eyes are really dark circles and skin discoloration - which all add to my looking tired and haggard. I'm going to try Photo Finish if I ever get to the mall. Maybe by filling in the fine lines first, the concealer will look better and stay on longer.
One product I really like is a MAC eyeliner pencil in dark blue. I have brown hair and brown eyes and the dark blue just gives the eyes a little "pop." Black is a little too harsh for me. -
Tina - yup...the GTO is a car. The song is "My little GTO"... We have a modified 2004. I race it at the 1/4 mile dragstrip. Last summer I did the 1/4 mile in 11.5 seconds. Our new engine will be even faster...and hopefully it will be good to go,go,go in about a month.
You're right...the only real "fix" for sagging upper lids is surgery.
I don't have any grown daughters! LOL Do you think I could get away with telling my Dr. that the droopy upper lids are affecting my eyesight...maybe she would say it's "medically" necessary and then I wouldn't have to pay for it! LOL
-
OMG..the makeup bag..I'm embarrassed to say that I have tubs that serve as a bag - 3 for lipglosses, lipsticks, misc, 2 for eye products, 2 for face and blushes....and they are VERY large and I switch my "bag" daily...horrifying!! I need rehab!
I love Trish McEvoy lipstick in sparkling ginger - it's so pretty!
I use bourjouis eyebrow blond gel - works well and not sticky or hard
The bobbi brown gel eyeliners do last all day long...
I have the MAC eyeliner in Blooz it's pretty!
My mom just gave me more makeup in my easter basket...nude lipstick from Too faced and violet mascara from Cargo..I can't wait to use them!
Oh yeah..I got the Smashbox photofinish - I love it - feels sooo smooth!
Love Marisa

Have you seen the ads for the new max factor mascara, with one end that's a glittery color? I can't find it in stores yet, but it looks awesome!!!
Also, the new trend for eyes now is glitter... but to make it work without looking like a 12 year old will surely take some practice.
I saw the eye makeup on the girls who sang on American Idol showing how to make glitter work on the eye without crazy over doing it. I even freeze framed the tv on one girl so I could study her eye makeup--- I know, I'm insane.
I need to see what MAC has in store these days, I haven't been in forever. But I'm guessing they've got this new glitter thing down.
I'll keep you posted.

Hillary - the best eye cream I've ever used is the Mary Kay firming eye cream. It's like a little face life for your eyes. I use it at night and wake up looking much younger with no bags!
Jeanne, I use get the original, colorless photofinish - the regular, not the light. www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P9889&categoryId=C10905
ugh girls, went tanning yesterday - only 11 minutes, but arrghh, totally red on the belly and legs. Stupid, stupid, but I've got to get ready for Florida! Thank goodness I cover my face with a towel.

tsk tsk tsk. Hope you put some aloe on!
-
I have 2 glitter eyeliners - they are chubby sticks for Lorac - one in brown and one in black - I use it under my eyes and it's subtle - I always get compliments..you should take a look at them in Sephora

Good morning!
Now Laura, I’m sure you still have eye lids!
Seriously tho, my DH and his sister both had corrective surgery on droopy eyelids. It was impacting their vision. It was a fairly simple procedure. DH could care less one way or the other except that he could see so much better. His sister was thrilled, as she not only could see better, she did think it provided a bit of an eye lift.
Marin – LOL! Makeup quickies.
Tina – You mentioned Clinique. I mentioned before that I LOVE their foundation. Went to get some last week and took advantage of the freebies they have right now. If you spend $25 you get a really nice pink makeup bag (I personally am all about the pink, liked it “before” and still do
), mascara, eye shadow duo, moisturizer, eye cream, cleanser and a lipstick. The mascara is small (but really great!), but pretty much everything else is close to regular size. Love it all!
Inna – You are a brave girl to think about injections! If you do it, you’ll have to let us know how you like the results. Me, I’m a chicken, so I just continue on my quest for make up tricks.
With dark circles, lighter eye shadows and the white liner do seem to make a huge difference!
BTW…the Nordies deal sounds like a blast. I’m going to watch for an event here.
Jeanne – It sounds like a lot of us are MAC devotees.
I’ve been using a brown/black liquid eye liner, but I think I’d like to try their dark blue. It sounds really pretty. I’m blond and pretty fair so I might have to ask them to suggest a blue if the dark one is too dark.
Marisa – After my own heart! When I asked about “what’s in everybody’s bag” there was no way I could list everything! Mine is in a bag, but I neglected to mention that theres more than one, and in the bathroom drawer I have little dividers holding lipsticks, pencils and brushes.
Beth – I mentioned last week that I started looking for the new max factor. I really want to try it! I was surprised that Walgreens (by me anyway) no longer carries Max Factor. Doesn’t look like Target does either. I thought I’d try CVS this weekend! My eyelashes aren’t what they were before chemo, so I’m thinking that the brown/gold MIGHT be ok for day wear. Can wait to try it! Oh and the new MAC glitter, a friend of mine is going today….
I’d love to try it, hoping I’m not too old.
Hillary – I’m a big fan of Clinique’s eye cream. But it’s kind of why I jumped in this thread. I am really loyal to the brands I love, but I’ll always try something new. (That’s why I have more than one make up bag AND a drawer full.

Raye – I feel for ya! I cant do tanning beds, all of the meds I take say to stay out of the sun. Yeah, right, I live in AZ.
So I’m a pro with sunscreen and after sun products. Clinique "after sun" is really good. So is the straight aloe like from Rads. I keep mine in the fridge – feels soooo good!
Emelee – Oh shoot! Glitter eyeliner. Guess what else I’ll be looking for today!
Have a beautiful weekend! If I go to MAC or find the Max Factor, I’ll come back with a full report! -
Wow, I've missed so much around here! The eyeliners sound great, especially the MAC blue. I have so much trouble keeping my eyeliner pencils sharpened, but have never tried liquid or gel. In fact, I never even used liner until chemo and now it's my best friend! Glitter-anything I'll pass on....the stuff always seems to fall into and highlight wrinkles that I didn't even know I had!
Raye, I'm SO jealous! Did the bed feel warm and awesome?

Hi girlz!
Hope you're all having a gorgeous weekend!
I too...love the PhotoFinish! It makes me look like I have beautiful skin!
raye - FL? You lucky duck! Have a great time...
-
Picked up the dual color Max mascara! Whoo hoo! I havent tried it yet, but will let you know. It looks like they are revamping their whole line. Lots of new eye liners, vivid color eye shadows, etc. Cant wait!

Went to Nordy's and the gal at the Smashbox counter gave me samples of photo finish and a similar product by Clarins (Instant Smooth Perfecting Touch) - that she claimed she liked better and is a little cheaper than the Photo Finish. (She obviously worked for another line.) I like them both. They really feel good. Am still trying to decide which one I like the best. And loved the O-lip gloss - I got a little sample of that, too. I think I will definitely buy that.
Also got some under eye concealer by Clarins and some Smashbox brightener (Photo Op Under Eye Brightener) and it really makes a difference hiding my dark circles. (Yes, I went crazy - but feel so much better!) Thanks, ladies, for your suggestions and hints.
As for tans - last year a friend told me about Clarins self tanning gel. I used it all summer and loved the way my skin looked (kissed by the sun!). It dries really fast and you don't have to worry about it coming off on your clothes. I used a facial gel for my face which didn't look as dark as my body, but still gave me that summer glow. I still have some left for this year. -
Where did you find the max factor mascara?
-
It's kind of funny Beth.
I am a dedicated Target shopper...my Target seems to have stopped carrying Max. I was forced kicking and screaming into a Wal-Mart to pick up something for my MIL. Viola! They had it.
-
I was thinking of trying a glossy soft black mascara I'd read about (here, or someplace else?) but couldn't find any in even in the huge selection at CVS. Marin- like you I never did eyeliner until during chemo when the eyelashes fell out. Now I feel naked without it.
Any advice for leg make up? I need to have some work done on spider veins and a couple of varicose veins but would like to hide them as much as possible in the meantime. I tried Dermablend and it was awful- looked exactly like what it was- like I put something on my legs to try to hide something.
-
i use tan in a can for my legs. works wonders for hiding all sorts of skin "errors".
-
Found a new make up info sight: totalbeauty.com. Lots of product reviews and comparisons.
good tips and such, too.
-
Thanks Dotti-Is "tan in a can" the name of the actual product or the name for a class of products (i.e. self tanner?). I am a real newbie to make up skills beyond the very basics.
-
OK, I tried the Burt's Bees Radiance for eyes. Does not work for my eyes!! I'm also not crazy about the scent. And, the top to the jar cracked. There's $14.95 down the tube ...
I'm going to go back to the Clinique All About Eyes. Problem is ... I can't remember if I used the regular All About Eyes or the All About Eyes Rich. Any suggestions out there? Carynn?
-
Hi everyone!
The Max Factor mascara is FABULOUS! Even if you dont use the highlight color, it makes lashes amazingly long. Mine have not been the same since chemo and wow! It's great!
Alysonw - Tan in a can is "generic." There are some really good ones out there. Clarins comes to mind. Right now I'm using (when I remember) the Jergens moisturizer with bronzer. It works best if you use your regular body moisturizer / lotion BEFORE using the bronzers. That ensures an even color and no dark patches on any drier skin like elbows, knees, heels....
Hillary - I use the All about eyes. I really like it. It's one of those products that I keep coming back to after trying something new. Now's a great time to pick some up. Spend the $25 dollars and get all those freebies. I'm loving mine!
-
Thanks for the additional "tan in a can" advice. The Jergen's sounds good especially. Because of my darker pigmented skin (olive type) I have enough trouble with the darker knees and elbows as it is. I've wanted to try self tanner but I've been afraid of streaks or worse being orange

.One Burt's Bees caution- I love their products BUT I got the Radiance Night Cream and was using it up in a timely manner then one day noticed some mold- good proof that it's paraben free but disgusting nevertheless. Store in the fridge perhaps?
-
Morning Beauties!
Wow. Sounds like I've got to try this Max Factor mascara.
Allyson, I use the Loreal Sublime dark tinted self tanning lotion. Since it is tinted, you can see where you've applied it. Helps tremendously with application. My burn from the tanning bed has settled into a tan, so this morning I used the very same tanning lotion on my face andmy face looks really tan. One application. (Yes, Marin, it was wonderfully warm and summerlike in the bed, loved it until two hours later when I was red as a beet
)And Allyson, lucky you with your olive skin! You might try exfoliating your elbow and knees to smooth out those areas before trying the self tanner. That might help with that "build up" around those areas.
I ordered a book called "How Not to Look Old" from Amazon- supposedly from the reviews, the book contains tricks on looking younger (i.e. pink lipstick instead of dark - Tina, you told us this - maybe you should write a book!!- wearing bangs, lightening your hair (now this I cannot do, mine is too dark). Anyway, I will let you know of any tips that we don't know about.
Geez, I'm writing like a manic person this morning, sorry if this is disjointed.

I am going on a mission today to find the max factor mascara. I have a light day of work, and I woke up this morning with a burning feeling to shop. Since I refuse to buy new clothes without losing weight, I figure shopping for make up will feel just as good.
I'll report back later.
