So I get this catalogue in the mail today, called
A Time for Me. I've never heard of it before. Anyway, you guys can check it out at www.timeformecatalogue.com
There's a million different beauty supply items and face and eye stuff that I've never seen... not to mention a few mojo items that I've never seen either.
interesting...

Beth, just to let you know, I had Rosacae (ro-sah-shu) really really bad in my 30's... I went to the dermatologist and he tried all sorts of internal, daily medications. Finally, I switched to the over the counter benzoyl peroxide 10% solution (aka Fostex or Clearasil or any brand with the 10% solution). I still use it on a zit or two but combined with using the apricot scrub and using a moisturizer (because your body is depleting itself by making so much oil sometimes) ... a non greasy moisturizer (I use Mary Kay Timewise) I have clear skin. I know you ladies don't think the scrub works but if I don't use it a few days in a row, the flare-ups start again and I have to get out the Clearasil.....Just put the Clearasil right on the effected area, not all over.
-
Dottie - as far as I am concerned, you wouldn't lie about anything and believe you do indeed use water.
I was referring to the Halloween comment and couldn't imagine you wearing that much makeup for Halloween - but what do I know? Sorry.

-
ok ......... i'm so not a make up kinda chick ........... but i am a "girlie girl' ......if that makes any sense?
i'm totally addicted to professionally applied eyelashes ................. i wake up looking fab and go to bed looking fab .......... they are worth every dime!!!!!!!
-
Oh, a topic after my heart, y'all...the tanning bed! I'm dead broke right now and it's a good thing because I'd buy a decade's worth of tanning sessions and go at least twice a week! For smallish areas that you don't want to expose, but a towel would wreck your line, cover the entire area with SPF 45 chapstick. That's what I use on my tattoos when I tan and they get no burn or tan or fading whatsoever.
Beth, I use eye makeup remover both before and after face cleansing. I try to get the major part of it off first but, inevitably, my undereyes are smudged when I emerge from the slathering and rinsing, so I give the whole eye a good final swipe. Even when I'm wearing no makeup, I don't want to startle myself when I pass a mirror! I usually use Neutrogena or Lumene non-oily liquid remover.
Thanks so much, Amy, for suggesting using a bit of powder on my lashes! I plan to try it tomorrow morning!
And Laura, I'm going to try applying my self-tanner while my skin is damp and use the blow dryer. Like g, I love the towels but they get used up so quickly and they're not cheap!

tan- o -holic here ........ of i'm not in the real sun, i'm in a tanning bed ....... i think i've told ya'll before it's my "pyschiatrist"!
...... so i'm with you on that 'hint' marin .......... i'm not content unless i'm the colour of chocolate all year round .......... and it does wonders for my psyche!!!!!

Hey Raye, no offense taken, so no 'sorry"needed!!! I was just kidding around. but my mom was really pissed at me.
At halloween, I dress up in my dh's graduation gowns --- backcomb my hair, dialed up to really weird, and put on pale blue face cover, oriental eyebrows, red eye liner, black lips, orange eye shadow and have the lights really low at the door. We have a long circle drive and the kids have to walk a bit to get to the door.
I have a cd player going with the most scary sounds possible from dogs growling to ghosts screaming!
No one else gets more than 6 trick or treaters, but we get at least 100-150. They come in trucks full, hay wagons of sunday school clasess, and all the people who have heard of me.
I've been doing this for over 20 years, even while my kids were little and being carried to trick or treat by their dad.
Had the son of my co-worker come by with her so she could pick up some flowers 6 mos after halloween---he wouldn't get out of the car for fear the witch would get him.
I have kids who screamed on my porch now bringing THEIR kids and grandkids to be scared to take the candy out of the skull's teeth(it is a real one and the jaws snap together when the candy is removed.
It's a real hoot and everyone, including family and me, look forward to it each year.
I was dx'd in Oct, so the witch was a way for a while, but she was really missed. People stopped me in the grocey wanting to know when she was comming back. LOL
So---yep, I really need the remover on halloween. LOL

Ok, I was talking to Clowny-girl, aka LauraGTO, on the phone the other day. We were discussing how best to "set" the make-up. After I get my Photo-finish, foundation and facial highlighter (I put it on the bone of the eye socket) ... I look pretty good and skin looks great. I've always put powder, loose or pressed, on to set the look.
But, I don't want to get all dried out later. What about misters????? Or should I go and buy some loose powder again?
-
I also dust with a powder bronzer after..that helps set it also

-
I put this on the fashion thread by mistake: Not sure where I heard it, but I mixed some Bare Minerals foundation with my cream moisture -- it worked great! Smoothed out the color of cheeks and jaw really well and had moisture too.
I love tips like that!
-
great tips ladies - I guess I am rather lazy or low maintenance - I use my powder, my mascara, lipstick, liner, shadow, oh and primer. I need to try the white liner. Or the blue as Marin suggested. I will report on my tan when I return from florida...cannot wait!!!
Dottie - you sound positively scary in your Halloween make up and costume - so fun!!! I wish I had more of an imagination with things like that.
-
dottie I would love to see pics of your halloween get up-- sound like an amazing experience for all the families in your neighborhood.
I set everything with pressed powder-- then I put a bronzer over it so I don't look dried out.
-
What is professionally applied eyelashes ?
-
Prof eyelashes: individually applied lash to lash, VERY expensive to start, like $300 and you have up keep since the lashes fall out.
I hate to admit we've never taken a pic in all this time! I get kids from all over town (admit it's a small town) not just the neighborhood. It is great fun. We also have a full skeleton that they see as I slowly open the door. LOL
WARNING: I just discovered, and should have known, fake fragrances and make up are on Ebay!!! as are name brand brushes and creams, treatments. Not all, but a good HIGH percentage.I thought those prices were too good to be true and they were! Glad they have those "guides" on the search page to ck out things.
-
Ok, will try bronzer over the powder. Has anyone tried the misters?
-
Hi, girls, back from surgery. I'm happy to see so many hints and activity! Tomorrow when I come back to spend a little more time I'll read them all over.
BTW, hospital air makes your skin like an alligator's. I even was smearing on J&J baby lotion all over my face! At least it didn't make it break out. Good for my face or a baby's butt. Is nothing sacred?
Tina
-
tina! Welcome back. We missed you. How are you feeling? And no, nothing is sacred
. -
Thanks, Raye! So nice to be missed.

I'm feeling dandy. Was in the hosp for seven days and THAT was no fun, but being home is great. I never had one ounce of pain from abd or chest. Can you imagine that? I must not have enough sense to feel pain! I was prepared for at least abd pain and swelling, of which there is none. My fat pants are two sizes too big. (Well, THAT IS a good thing.) Only downside is the hard foob but I am willing to wait for progress. Check my post over on the fashion thread to give me some advice about balance.
Tina
-
Tina, welcome back ....... fat pants that are too big is wonderful!
-
Of course, I wait a day to post this, and now I can't think of this chics name...
the model who was booted off dancing with the stars first last season... was it Josie Miran or something like that?
She came out with an ENTIRELY organic line of makeup that is still luxurious and beautiful, with no parabens... apparently they have the only mascara on the market which is paraben free, while still making your lashes full and plump.
I'll look for a link in a little bit.
-
That sounds cool, Beth. Mascara is the one thing that I've never found paraben-free. Let us know the name of the line or the link. I'll buy it just to support the anti-paraben effort. I buy Avalon Organics as often as I can too because they were one of the first companies that I'm aware of that changed their products midstream and went anti-paraben.
On another note, I thought of you, Raye, today when i was looking at the colored Rimmel eyeliners in Walmart. I ended up buying one in "Hurricane Grey" because I think it will apply easier than the pencil I'm currently using. But they had an assortment of blues and I'll bet your dark eyes would look fabulous with one of them!
And welcome back, Tina! We really did miss you! I'm so glad to hear that you're on the way to a good recovery!

Girls, try this website for natural cosmetics, including mascara. They do have a brief review/assessment of the various products. I have never ordered anything from them.

Thanks for the good thoughts, Marin.

WAHOO... I finally got the max factor mascara... I got the black on one side, and the plum/rasperry/fuscia type color on the other side.
First, I want to say that I love the mascara wand itself. It really seperates and defines lashes. I wish the colored part showed up more on the tip of the lashes, but I think once I have full eye shadow behind the lashes it will pop more.
I highly recommend giving it a try. I want to try the brown/gold one next.
-
Hi Girlz -
Remember me? lol I have been really busy...too busy! I miss you all and just wanted to wish you all a beautiful and glamorous day! lol
Hope you're all doing well!
-
Hey, Laura, long time no hear. I'm glad you're doing great and too busy to visit.
My frickinfrackin eyelashes seem to be shedding for the FOURTH time. Oh, this is getting so old. I saw someone post on another thread that her onc told her not to wear mascara during chemo and that would prevent them falling off from the weight of it. Personally, I think that's a crock, if I am permitted to say so. Vive la mascara! I'll have to try that colored stuff. Where do you put the color, on the top of bottom lashes?
I'm feeling that old "I need some new makeup" feeling. You know the one. Maybe later this week I will venture forth to the local mall and do some shopping. My phys. asst. told me last Friday I could drive but I have not yet done so. It'll be three weeks Thursday from the recon and four less days from the hematoma evacuation. I don't want to push it. Still, beauty calls.

Anyone want to report on some great, new product?
Tina
-
Tina- just put a soft pillow between your abdomen and the lap belt when you drive, and DONT STOP SHORT. tee hee
I really like the max factor mascara, but other then that I've done no makeup shopping.
I'm focused on my hair right now. I think I want to color it. I have some gray's -- no bright silvers in the crown of my head, and I really want them gone. I was thinking of going a shade darker brown with very subtle highlights in the front.
I figure if I do it now in case I hate it I can fix it before my engagment party in Sept.
Soooo I get to meet emelee this week!!!
-
Tina -- I saw that comment about no mascara as well, and thought it was a crock but was too polite to say anything. I didn't wear mascara during chemo (eyes watering too much; out on medical leave, so didn't need to dress for work) and I still lost my eyelashes!!! I think that I'm lucky in that I only lost ALL my lashes that once. Since then, I've shedded lashes, but they've been staggered enough that probably only I notice it. In fact, I'm going through a shedding stage right now, having lost eight lashes last night (boo hoo!).
As for colored lashes, I remember doing that back in my 20's ... I really liked a purple mascara from Lancome that I would wear for parties.
Laura -- Busy is good!
Beth -- Go for it ... as soon as my hair was long enough (basically three months after chemo), I was having it colored by my hairdresser. It took a couple of tries before we found a color that worked (looked good/didn't fade/didn't get brassy). My hair grows fast (a good thing), which means that I have to get it colored often (not a good thing)!
Hugs,
Hillary -
I have tried 'all' the mascaras and still come back to Lancome. I get the one that makes them fuller-definicles, or something. The stuff really works, esp. now that the Revitalash has worked and I actually Have lashes.
-
Yes..Beth and I get to meet....you will have to show me the max factor mascara...
The only sad thing is I'm used to marathon shopping - 8 hours at a time..but I don't have the stamina now

Oh well..I think I will browse for some makeup when I go to the mall - I want to get my mom some goodies for Mother's day and her 5 year cancerversary is coming up Anyone have ideas for that?
I already got her some cookie mix from Stonewall Kitchen where some proceeds benefit BC...and a little thing for her croc shoes that says Save the Tatas....and I'm putting all our pics from BC walks over the last 5 years in a photobook...anything I'm missing??
I just got some eyebrow gel from Bobbi Brown in blonde - loving it!
-
OK, girls, can I get a recap of makeup recommended for aging/blotchy/washed-out skin? And then what's been recommended by you all as a concealer for dark undereye circles on skin that's paper thin? I have a very limited budget, but have decided to make a few specific purchases this weekend to launch me into my renewed dating frenzy (that's me- ever hopeful!). So my plan includes buying the Smashbox photo___? and my favorite foundation, Clinique's Nearly something (I need to look at my empty tube before hitting the mall). So what else would help me to look less like an aging corpse and more alive and fresh? I VERY SERIOUSLY mean it about the concealer....I know we discussed it aways back, but I found it confusing and wasn't clear on a particular brand that goes on smoothly and doesn't cake up or settle into wrinkles. Come on, y'all, help me make up my shopping list....please!
