He sent me a photo last Tuesday of the rest area in Abbington VA that was covered in snow. Unfortunately (or fortunately), depending on if you like the snow, we are just below the levels that get the heavy snow. According to wiccipedia Hudson is at 1200 ft elevation ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hudson%2C_North_Carolina ) and the snows are usually above 1500. If you head up Hwy 321 just about 30 miles to Boone, NC (home of App State - who beat MI in football last year) they get the big stuff. Last week they got about 6 inches of blowing snow and we got rain. Though I am not complaining about the rain, we were down in rainfall last year about 18 inches and so far this year we are about 2 inches behind. The rain last week took us out of the extreme drought category to severe. There is still no car washing at home, watering grass, or filling swiming pools.

Sheila....why is it drought if you are in Winter...are you droughting ..why though xxx
I am feeling much sympathy for you all with that snow,,,geez it is lasting for ages!! Lisa you need some nice sunshine!!!
-
Sue, the water table levels are still low from last years lack of rain. The rivers are down a couple of feet still. It has been a dry winter, we have not gotten the rain/snow/ice this winter that we usually get. Actually they are even talking of putting the homeowners who have wells on some sort of restrictions. They want people to conserve water at home. I am trying to conserve as much water as possible. I keep a large pitcher in the bath and when I am running the water to get the hot to the faucet, I catch it in the pitcher and use that to water my plants and fill Penelope's water bowl.
They have upgraded the drought condition from extreme to severe. In Feb 99% of NC was in the extreme, now I think they said that now 75% is in the extreme but the rest is in the severe category.

! I want to share your spag bowl! Gosh I love Spagets. And that pie oh my gosh! PLEASE send me the recipe! I have to try that. Did you enjoy being a vet receptionist? I would love to do that , but the pay isn't very good here. Oh one thing I wanted to share , is I like to draw. I will share some of my drawings sometime.
Lisa , well at least you will be getting something. At least its in the works. Hang in there sweetie. Soon it will be spring. And we'll be outside planting flowers , doing yard work , grilling out. Its just around the corner now! Don't forget to turn your clocks this Sat. Spring ahead.
Yes , I was so shocked our electric didn't go off. Everyone around us did. Over 30,000 people have been with out power. Some was turned on last night. But some people are still without. They opened some "warm" shelters for people to get warm and some , for them to sleep there. And now , another storm tomorrow. YUCK! Think spring , think spring...
Jane , good luck with the house. Boy , I sure hope you get it. Have a great weekend. Fingers crossed!
Shirlann , all I can say is WOW! I would love to spend time with you and hear of all your adventures. How interesting your life has been. I am in awe.
Wren , I didn't know or I forgot , that you are a teacher also. You and Jane have that in common. I love Christmas Vacation too. Sooo funny.
And I watch What not to wear. Oh yea Shirlann , I watch Little people , big world , I couldn't for the life of me , think of the name of the show!Nancy , sorry you have to postpone your port placement. Hope you're feeling better soon. Oh , I love the cheese bagels too! Gesh , don't know why I have a weight problem
!lol Good luck getting you're daughter really for college. Does she have a major yet? I wish her the best.
xxxx Melody

Oh Sheila , how is Penelope doing? She is such a sweetie. Can you post some more pics of her? I hope so.xxxx Melody
-
Mel....I love to draw too! I have done it since I was a very young girl. My dear Godfather, when I was young, used to always buy me drawing supplies as a Christmas gift. Those are such wonderful memories. Some day...I will become a dabbling artist....like I have always dreamed of.
Going to get a bite to eat.
All of this talk of wonderful foods have made be hungry. I have been lazy since the court hearing. Just going through mail, and reading. Oh...what is wrong with me!! I hate this!! No get up and go!!!!!!!
Sue, I am glad your mouth is better than before. I pray that it does not get worse this next tx. I remember mine only hurting after the first 2 tx of taxotere.
I want Banofee pie!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my gosh.......that looks sooooooooooooo good! I love caramel!
Mel...I can't wait to plan our girls day...when the spring finally arrives...we can make a day of it!! Lunch, shopping (well...window shopping for me..haha..no $) but that is fine..I love to look! Looking forward to it. I need something to look forward too.

Banoffee Pie

This is arguably the best dessert in the world! A delicious layer of thick caramel on a biscuit base, topped with bananas and cream.
Serves 8-10
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Chilling time: 1½ hours
Cooking time: 5 minutesIngredients Method Base:
100g (3½oz) butter
250g (9oz) digestive biscuits, crushed
Caramel:
175g (6oz) butter
85g (3oz) caster sugar
85g (3oz) dark brown soft sugar
397g can Carnation Condensed Milk
4 small bananas
284ml carton double cream, lightly whipped
cocoa powder, for dustingIn a large saucepan, melt 100g (3½oz) of the butter and stir in the crushed biscuits. Press into the base and partly up the sides of a 19cm (7½in) loose-bottomed cake tin. Place in the fridge to chill while preparing the caramel.
To make the caramel, place the butter and the sugars in a non-stick saucepan over a low heat, stirring until the butter melts and the sugar dissolves. Add the condensed milk and, stirring continuously, bring gently to the boil, to make a smooth, golden caramel. Spread the caramel over the biscuit base and chill for about 1½ hours.
Slice the bananas and arrange most of them over the caramel. Spread with whipped cream. Decorate with the remaining bananas and dust liberally with cocoa powder. -
Hahaha! Somebodies hungry! Looks great Sue, and I hope you've made it.
Hmm, I can almost taste the caramel and banana combo now....

Hi Ladies -
Glad you liked my questionnaire. I could have added to allot of the answers as well.
Shirlann- you definitely win the prize - my guess is being a travel agent made it easy to go places. I also watch Little People,Big World, its a great show.
Mel - I forgot all about Steel Magnolias and Seinfeld reruns. UB & I watch Seinfeld EVERY night. LOVE IT!!!
Wren - I am also a big fan of What not to Wear - the way I dress I would be an excellent candidate for the show. LOL
Nancy - WELCOME - sit a spell and chat with all of us.
Lisa - HGTV is the channel I watch the most. My fave's are Design to Sell & House Hunters. I loved Clean Sweep - I wish they would bring it back.
Sue - OMG- that pie looks FABULOUS!!! I forgot about Dirty Dancing - I've seen that movie a ton of times - every time I watch it UB makes fun of me. LOL. He thinks its so "gay". Did you all hear Patrick Swayze was just dx with pancreatic cancer?? So sad.
By the way Sue UB is upset you haven't answered his email. Everyday he asks me if you have been online. LOL. He's such a man - he says he doesn't like to talk with anyone but when someone reaches out to him you can't shut him up!!!!
Love you all, bbl,
AE
-
DAH - just read Lisa's post about Patrick Swayze.
It is very sad.

ahhhhh ...aunty Em ...it is so nice to see ya...but I cant stop I am off to mail UB....and give him what for about gay dirty dancers!! I mean Dirty Dancing ...xxx
TENDER .... I am making bannoffee pie tomorrow ...I cant wait....there will be few crumbs for the boys when they get back from school....
Sisters...I never want to work again...I need to win the lotto....I am having such a well earned rest.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what time shall I get up tomorrow....mmmm lunchtime maybe lol
Anyway ...off to my vip email ...bbl xxx
-
I love Patrick Swayze.... hes 55 now how time flies ....he must have been my age or bit younger when he did dirty dancing xxx
-
Sue...are you on holiday this week?? I am confused...what's new!! If you are....I guess I didn't realize!
If so......ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I heard about Patrick Swayze on Good Morning America. I'm shocked and very sad for him and his family. I love "Dirty Dancing". I know that pancreatic cancer is usually a death sentence, but I guess his was caught before it spread, so who knows? Gosh, I hope he doesn't end up like Michael Landon. Stupid bootface!!
Wren, I could have used you when both of my kids were babies! I could not breastfeed for the life of me. I just didn't produce any milk! I did see a lactation specialist with Chase. She told me that some women just aren't meant to breastfeed. I sat in her office and cried. It was one of the most frustrating experiences of my life. My boobs have always been a source of frustration. They're flat as a board, I couldn't breastfeed, and now bootface!!! Grrrrrrrr!!
Shirlann, what a world traveler you are! I'm so jealous!!!
Jane, the lizard story was so cute! I used to freak out around lizards the same way I do with snakes. Not so much anymore. Tiny ones don't bug me at all. I think the bluetongue would have startled me a bit. I imagine you're so used to them though that they don't even phase you. How big are they compared to an iguana?
I saw reports on tv about the ice storms in Ohio. Yuck! We had them several years ago and I remember going outside and hearing nothing but crackling. It was the branches breaking off of trees. I hope Lisa and Mel get some relief very soon! It's been nice here all week--sunny and near 60 degrees. I have daffodils coming up!!
Well, the court hearing was very uneventful. She asked to see my registration--which shows that I went and bought my tabs the day after I was pulled over. Then she dismissed the case and told me all I had to pay was $25 in court fees. Yippeeee!!
Not so good is my radiations schedule. I was supposed to start today, but the table I was to lay on to get zapped was broken. Now I don't get to start until Monday. I was kind of disappointed. I want to get things going so I can be DONE!!
Love and hugs,
Karen
-
Sue, that pie sounds scrumptious!!!! Thanks for posting the recipe, but what the heck is a digestive biscuit?? What about caster sugar? Caramel and bananas--who would have thought? Sounds yummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't there another dessert that combines bananas with caramel? What's in bananas foster? I've seen it served in restaurants, but haven't tried it myself.
xoxoxoxo

Karen,
I am sorry about the delay in your rads! Darn it. Look at it this way, at least it's only a few days..and not any longer. I still can't believe you are through all your chemo!! And have hair growing! I wish I was around to help you with your breastfeeding. I nursed all 3 of the girls at least a year each. I had plenty of milk. Alot of it has to do with relaxing and making sure you intake alot of fluids. Poor girl.
Woohoo...sounds like the judge showed you some mercy!! Was it a woman? That is probably why! Good for you...so glad it went your way.
I just got a beautiful email from my oldest daughter Danni. She has an internship with a company in Chicago called Trial Graphics...and she has been doing research and compiling data for a big project for them. Well one of the lead consultants in NYC sent an email to her supervisors and consultants in Chicago...complimenting her on all of her hard work, detail, organization etc.. It was really a nice letter. The really great news is, that she will do all the follow up on this project, analyzing all the data..and it will get her PUBLISHED in LAW JOURNALS!! This will be so good to put on her resume!! She graduates from Grad school this May!!
Sorry...had to brag...I am so proud of her!! She has paid for all of her grad school, most of her undergrad, and has held a job for most of her college years! She deserves so much!! Very proud!
Ok..off to do bills.....
-
....I just realized the subject of the email she sent said this....."just wanted to share how wonderful you were at raising me".......
-
ok...I am crying now!

Karen, Caster sugar would be similar to confectioner's sugar. Digestive biscuits are very mild cookies, kind of like Uneeda Biscuits. I think you could probably also substitute Vanilla Wafers, but they 'd have little more flavor.
One of my local supermarkets has an international aisle sectioned off for about six or seven different countries. The British/Irish section sometimes carries digestive biscuits. I'll check the package to see what the main ingredients are. But I think you could substitute any really bland white cookie.
Nancy
Edited to add: It looks like the port insert is still on. PCP gave me an antibiotic and said go ahead. I suppose the surgeon could call it off tomorrow morning at the hospital if he doesn't like the look of my glands, but here's hoping the meds do the trick! Funny, I never usually get swollen glands. Now I feel like my whole body is letting me down. :-(
-
Wow, Lisa. You must be so proud. What a testimonial to you and the excellent way you raised her. You go ahead and cry happy tears! I'd be bawling too.
Love and hugs,
Karen
-
Thanks Nancy! There's an international section in one of our local Safeway stores. I'll have to go look for that type of cookie.
Hugs,
Karen

Karen....oh my...your answers made me realize....how could I have forgotten..the #1 place I have always wanted to visit is Australia!! Maybe we both can barge in on Jane!!
I too love Desperate Housewives..and LOVE Little people big world, and Jon and Kate plus 8!!! My g/f and I are huge fans of Kate!!
Thanks...I am very, very proud! Especially after seeing their Dad in court today, telling the judge how he is not working, and now going to AA, etc, etc...has nothing, no car, no job, no home..nothing. Then there are all 3 girls..working, 2 going to college and getting good grades while working! It's all very sad. But..yes...I am very proud of all of them! As, I am sure all of you are proud as peaches of your children!
-
Nancy good luck on getting your port. It's one of the first steps. I hope you start to feel better.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
xoxo

Good luck with the port insertion, Nancy. It was a pretty quick procedure for me. The port site felt tight for a week or two, but now I forget it's even there most of the time.
I'll send positive healing thoughts and prayers your way.
Hugs,
Karen

Hi dear sisters, my daughter-in-law died 2 years ago of Pancreatic Cancer. They were going to do the Whipple, but she had already meted out in her liver. So they just closed her up. Get this, the Whipple procedure (it involves taking the "head" of the pancreas off, re-routing some things, and is a very drastic, complicated surgery) was developed, get this, in 1935. My mouth dropped open when the surgeon told us this. Carmela lived just 8 months. She worked for 7 months. So awful. Poor little thing, just wanted to watch her kids grow up and play with her grandchildren. But for the first time, I got to do what I SHOULD have done with my dad, mom and grandmother. I held her in my arms, we were flopped on her big bed, and I cried and told her what a wonderful daugter-in-law she was and what a wonderful mother she was and how much we were going to miss her. My sister came with her zither and we all sang songs, we went over all our pix albums, she got on the Internet on her laptop, and I am not kidding, picked out her urn. She was amazing.
I still miss her. And boy, her kids do to. Her son was 15, her daughter was 17.
So sad, hugs, Shirlann
