Lori Anne I went to Egypt with my old teaching partner and her husband and a tour group. It is not a country you do on your own. 15% of the country is in the army, police or tourist police. They all have automatic weapons. They are very serious about not letting anyone kill the golden geese (tourists). Armed guards sometimes ride on the buses to places like the pyramids. It doesn't feel funny or threatening. The people you meet, especially if you know just a little Arabic (my vocab. is hello, how are you, good bye, god willing, no, and thank you and counting 1-10 from years of teaching Chaldean and other Arabic speaking children) are so friendly. They all say, "We love Americans; we just hate your government. Vote for someone else." They don't quite get it that Bush can't run again, but boy do they hate him. Our tour group seemed to be mostly liberals, lots of ex-teachers so we agreed. When I wore a Hillary shirt my girlfriend had given me, it started discussions about whether or not a woman could run a country. I would sort of like to go back sometime, but my son, God willing, will be studying for his master's in international politics in Germany next year, so I will go there if possible.

Cool! Last time I checked the michigan board, there was nothing current! Nice to see there are others in michigan on here!
Anyone doing chemo this month?
-
wishiwere - Sorry you had to join our club. Welcome to our MI site.
Anyone from Utica/Shelby Township? We are moving my daughter from Mt. Pleasant CMU to Shelby. She will be starting her student teaching there the first of the year.
Happy Holidays to all.

Thanks winggirl2.
Tell shelly Good Luck with her student teaching. I can't believe the # of teachers they put every year here! Where do they all go I wonder?
-
Thank you wishiwere, I will tell my daughter Lacie not Shelly you wish her well. She is excitied about the move. Not sure where all the students end up at. She is prepared to move out of state for a job if necessary.
Some of you were talking about your christmas trees. I wanted to share my idea. I decorated mine all in pink and even found a Hope ornament. I call it my HOPE tree.
Hugs to all

Thanks to Mary and Pat, I'm coming out of hibernation. Ok, let's do it. I've been thinking I've had enough of the Komen walk and what it seems to have become. But, it doesn't have to be that way if we put a spin on it. I don't care who is leader and will start it up if no one else wants to. But, this is our team and we are in it together. So, as you probably know about me by now, it's all or nothing. I'm all in!
I don't mind the carnival atmosphere and actually find that having the Komen Race as our "Michigan Mardi Gras" is something fun to look forward to. I just don't like that we are being used to sell products. They herd us up to the front of the stage, play Amazing Grace on bag pipes (which I happen to love) but, there is not a dry eye in the house. Look at the pictures they posted, the cameras panned in on our pale, crying faces. That bugs me. We are not weak, we are dragon slayers!!!
Chris planted a seed in my head about mentioning a dragon theme. I'd love to go with that theme this year. We could have our banner as a dragon with swords being the poles that hold it up. I have a dragon hanging in my office named ‘Erasmus B. Dragon'. (Say that fast and think about it - ok, I borrowed that from Car Talk but still think it's funny.) It has beautiful wings and we could keep our team name of "Wings of Hope". We ALL could have our own signs if you want with swords as the sticks. Put your favorite saying on the board. This is your chance to speak out.
I have several things I'd LIKE to write .... Examples
One side - We aren't here to sell toilet paper. Other side - Find a Cure!
One side - F***** awareness. Other side - Find a Cure!
One side - We lost 40,000 sisters this year. Other side - Find a Cure!
I did say I'd ‘LIKE' to write, hee hee, I don't want to get dragged out of there and arrested. Anyway, you get the idea that I'm getting geeked about it. Anyway, I'm borrowing the ideas from the post about the March in Washington. There are many good sayings being suggested and if no-one cares, I'd like to borrow them all! After all that, how is everyone? I miss you guys and it breaks my heart to see new people and how many we have lost since I've been AWOL from the boards. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas.

Hi,
I'm a new Michigan survivor. I live in Washtenaw county and work in Detroit. I would like to participate in the Komen walk but agree that I wouldn't want to go as a poster child to sell pink products and ribbons. I like the sign ideas suggested by Nancy and would be interested to march in a group carrying these signs and perhaps pictures of the pink ribbon upside down so it looks like a noose, which was suggested on another thread about the Washington march.
-
Is everyone staying away because of the Holiday or did I scare you off with my radical ideas? Just because I like the idea and those suggested for the Washington march doesn't mean we have to go that route. I do like the noose suggestion though, Lolita. I may come off as being a little too angry for the Komen walk which I don't want to do since that would be like biting the hand that feeds you. After all, they are raising money to help us even if I don't agree with their sponsor's motives.
Should I set up the team?
-
Happy New Year!!!
Nancy...I'm in...let's get the team started. My friends want to walk as well.
Lorrie...sorry I did not get back with you regarding the tree. Although this news is too late...we cut it at Candy Cane in Oxford...an award winning environmental tree farm. I have to say...we have had the tree for over a month now and it has shed little. I really need to get it down. Something to think about for next year though.
In north Oakland County...we got over 15 inches of snow yesterday...truly a winter wonderland.
Cheers!
-
Chris - you still didn't get your login name back I see. I like your avatar.
The team, Wings of Hope, is set up!
-
Hi All -
Happy New year!!
Lolita - I am in Washtenaw county too! Near Ann Arbor......

The lighthouse is Sturgeon Point...on Lake Huron around Black River.
Nice job on the team!
No response on my old name....oh well.
-
Our Team has 2 new members!
Maybe we should have a get-together in Washtenaw County? I work out that way also.
Can you believe it is going to be 60 today!! Maybe Bella will get a much needed walk. I lost her picture that was on my old avatar. I hope Opie, Bebe and the back of Cala will do.
-
Lolita - Saline here...I got to ypsi everyday for rads...

Hey All,
Nancy long time no see girlfriend! I'm game if you are to meet somewhere in Washtenaw. I am free next weekend! Does anyone have any ideas where to meet?
Welcome Susie & Lolita:-)
Chris, no problem about the tree-but we will definetly use your suggestion next year!
Anne, loved your short story about your trip-anxious to hear more.
Ok..let me know about lunch! Jeeeezzz...it is raining so hard-The SNOW is gone!
Lorie

Lorie - Good to hear from you! Do you mean the weekend of the 19th? I'm good then. This weekend is hectic for me. Suggestions? Anyone want to join us? C'mon Susie & Lolita, we don't bite. I know there are more around the Canton area that wouldn't be such a trek to Washtenaw County.
Of course all of you East or North siders, would love to see everyone again. We need to have a pep gathering to get out of these January doldrums. Candi - are you around? How is everyone? I know, it is my own fault for being away from the boards that I'm not up on everything. Where the heck is Adrionna, Irene, Geri and kats!?
Nancy
-
Oh a get together would be great! I can drive to Canton too....would we meet for lunch or what?

I would like to come as well. I have a bridal expo in Nov on Sunday at 12...nothing going on Saturday. Which day are we thinking about?
-
Hi All:
I would like to come as well, but the only weekend I can't make it is the weekend of Jan.19-20th. (Going to Chicago for my grandbaby's first birthday). Anytime after that is good too. Of course, if everyone can make it on that one weekend then you should do it!!! I'll catch up at a later time then. Hope you all are doing well!! Would be great to see everyone.
Hugs,
Pat

Canton would be good for me. Saturdays probably better than Sundays. What about the weekend of January 26? I'm new, so I lost this thread for a while but I'm glad to have found my way back...Lolita
-
Morning:-)
Hi Pat good to see you post! Wish I could see your avatar better-love babies!
January 26 2008 is good for me. Anywhere is fine. I mentioned that Bravos in Livonia--they say it is fantastic.
So, Chris how about one of your polls? Looking forward to seeing you all!
Lorie
-
I may be able to join the get together too. How far is Canton from Ann Arbor - I'm an hour SW of Ann Arbor and not familar with Canton.
Bonnie
-
Hi Bonnie - My guesstimate is that Canton is about 30 minutes East of Ann Arbor. Livonia is North of Canton about 15 minutes or so. Livonia is a good middle ground with Chris, Pat, Kay, Ann (ArmyNavyMom), Geri, Irene and more coming from the opposite direction. Notice how I'm assuming we can twist their arms to come join us? Candi is downriver and I'm hoping she is lurking also.
Anna, you moved to the West Side?! Please pm me with your address so I can send your t-shirt to you if you cannot make the trek to join us! I can't believe I just found it in my mess of a closet and didn't know I still had it. That's one for the 'can't get my act together' post.
The weekend of the 26th is good for me.
Nancy
-
Either weekend is good for me. I wish I could do a post, but I don't know how. How about it ladies?
-
Hey Friends!
I'm in with the 'name change' that came about with the 'new and improved' boards!
Adrionna is now 'neesie'.............which is better than what they gave me!
Hope all are well in the New year!
Let me know when and where you decide for lunch............keeping in mind that I can't navigate more than a couple of turns without getting lost!!
I can "charm" all of you with pics of my brand new Grandson!! (JK)
Hugs,
Denise
-
Hi All:
Nancy - the weekend of the 26th is good for me too.
Hugs to all of you!!!
Pat
-
So it sounds like everyone is good with the weekend of the 26th...correct??? Saturday???
-
Is Livonia the meeting place on the 26th?
I am at least an hour and half away from Livonia.
Like Denise after a couple of turns I get lost also.
Plus I live on a dirt road so anything with more then one lane is a challenge to me - haha.
I will have to study map over to determine if I can navigate drive alone.
Chris I think we lost the "poll" feature when they updated site. I sure could not find it either.
take care everyone
Bonnie
