    Hi all-

Denise you're right this thread has been very quite for a while now.

I heard from Nancy, she's been busy with her job and house so that's probably why she's been AWOL.

On the Detroit Race for the Cure site there are pictures posted of the race. Debbie and rockysmom there are some real nice ones of you two and there's a couple of my granddaughters too.Smile

I'm going to try to post a link to the pics, don't know if it will work with this new board format:

    www.detroitrftc.dotphoto.com/CPListAlbums.asp

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Greetings MI friends!! I am attempting to copy-cat your gathering and have invited fellow chatters to my home on Sunday afternoon for some fun and support. If any of you happen to be in the central OH area for any reason, we'd love to have you join us!

This first effort may be small in numbers, but we'll be mighty in our care and concern for each other.

PM me if you'd like specifics, directions etc.

It's interesting to be back-to-the-real-world. I'm glad to be back to my school visits. Start some big travels next month.

Take care, all my best for the journey.

I did not think that I am computer challenged..but I guess I am.  I cannot figure out how to get onto the website...unless I ask for my password  and then can only log in as a SecretUser.  If you can help Not Me...please email me directly at ChrisFromOxford@charter.net.  In the meanwhile....I have been reviewing some of the pictures from our outings over the past few years...I  miss everyone.  We need to meet... tried to get a picnic together but that did not work out.  How 'bout a luncheon?  Ladies?

    Hi Everyone!

Well, I hope the reason it's been so quiet here is that everyone is enjoying the last bit of summer.  I can't believe how lucky we've been with the weather.

Faith - congrats on the twins!

chris - I have no idea why you're having trouble.  Have you tried emailing Melissa/Tami?  Or checking the bugs/problems thread?

I'm up for a lunch.  How about Canterbury Village again?  I'd like to see it in the Fall.  From their website, it looks like they've decorated for Halloween.  I'm assuming all the little shops that were closed in the winter are still open.  Here's a link to their website:  http://www.thexmasshop.com/

Any weekend is good for me. Saturday or Sunday.  Except Oct 27.

Hello, sisters.  You're right, Faith.  I have been so busy I haven't had time for breakfast, much less email.  And, my computer is on the blink.  I'm sitting in my husband's office, stealing his--he won't mind, I know.

I've been working outside like a maniac.  I hve gotten all the things done that we planned to do since we moved in.  The place is beginning to look very nice, actually.

I'd love to do a get together.  After the 19th of October I will be back from Charleston SC.  The friend who loaned me her bedroom when I had my mastectomy invited me down for r&r and I'm leaving Saturday morning.

Haven't time to catch up on everybody, but hugs to you all.

    Hello,

Kay - love the new avatar - who's the pooch?  Adorable.

I heard from Chris, who is still blocked somehow, and the only day in October that she can make it is the 28th, which is fine with me.

I also heard from Gerri.  She can make any weekend and Canterbury is ok with her.

So how does the 28th at Canterbury sound for everyone else?

    Hi all!

I've been AWOL for a bit. I'm recovering with meds and therapy from a bout with depression. But we are moved into our new house and while there are still boxes to unpack they're all in the basement. Sadly, we've been dealing with more sad stuff at my house as my FIL passed away 3 weeks ago. DH is doing okay, as am I but it seems like there's been so much to handle this year!

Thanks, Nancy, for the head's up about the get together. Sadly, I'm already booked for the 28th. MIL is coming to celebrate her birthday. We're doing everything we possibly can to make sure she's got all the support she needs while she adjusts to being alone, so much as I'd love to see you, I'll have to wait until next time.

    Love you all!

I haven't been posting because I have been so busy getting used to my new community (Kalamazoo).  When is the get-together?+  I don't know if I can make it, but would like to know just in case.  I have to be in the big D this weekend for a reunion of the teachers from the school I taught at for 25 years.  The expense of the gas keeps me from coming more often.  I'm missing the Kalamazoo Breast Cancer walk.--good time of the year, no danger of suns stroke or overheating.  Thank you for the heads up Nancy.  You are a sweetheart.  Kay, I think of you often.  How are you?  I have been healthy since moving to Kazoo!  Doing a lot of exercising and taking too many classdes and activities.  I can't find any ortho who is willing to replace my left knee which really needs help.  They look at my record of cancer, chemo, resistant staph, C Dif, repeated pneumonia and say no.  I'm going to have to fight my insurance company to try to get sent back to Troy Beaumont to my great ortho there.  Is there anyone in this forum from the Kalamazoo area?  How about the news on Taxol.  That part of chemo was so agonizing and now to learn that it's likely I didn't need it!!  I certainly had a lot of company too.

    Love to all!

It looks like we're rescheduling the lunch.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a date in November?  Pretty much any weekend is good for me.  Hopefully, we can get a good turnout this month.

Hello fellow women, this is my first visit to this site and am very new to the whole cancer process. I live in East Tawas, according to my children "the middle of no where" To make my story short and sweet on Sept. 14th I noticed that my left nipple was inverting inward. I just turned 40 but received mams due to my grandmother had BC at the age of 68 but was a survivor. I am originally from Dearborn, so when I noticed my nipple I immediately called Beaumont for a Mam. Last year I had one up here by my husband is also a Dr. and it's kind of odd going to Dr.'s where you sit across a table with and have dinner with. So anyways,  BMH took me right away, did the mam and noticed an image. I was then took into another room for an immediate ultrasound that confirmed that I needed a biopsy. I then went down again the following week for a Stero-biopsy and had the results within 2 days. I was positive for DCIS in stage 2-3. What a shock since I'm lucky if I fill an A cup. I have been in perfect health, 5'8" 138 lbs. and don't drink and just smoke under stress. To top it all off my Dr. from Tawas then requested the same procedure on the right breast due to the mams and calicium deposits. So again, 2 days later I was back at the Image Center for another Stero on the right. At this point I already had the reference of a wonderful Breast Surgent and a Plastic Surgent with her team. Again 2 days later those results came back neg. I had my first appointment 4 days later with the main Dr. and she also scheduled the routine blood work, chest x-ray and MRI for the same day. (165 miles one way is quite a drive) I had already decided that since the good Lord did not endow me with the first set and I need a bi-laterial Mass done, I would just assume they take them both and reconstruct at the same time. 9 Days before my surgery date (10-16-07) I received another call to come down immediately because now the MRI was showing images in the right breast. So down I went again with my husband in tow for an ultrasound biopsy that afternoon. The cheif Rad. could not detect the image so I was then again scheduled for a MRI biopsy that I would not wish on my worst emeny. These machines are not adapted for small breasted women. I now know what a cow feels like while milking and pulling on their utters, no wonder they look at you during milking:) With only 4 days left before my surgery everything was a rush. 2 Days before the surgery I was told all was fine so they would not need to do a node test on the right, just the left. So on Tuesday of last week I had a bi-lat double done with expanders put into place. As it turns out I was on the table for over 6 hours!!! No wonder my back still hurts. I was sooo scared about the surgery because I have never even had a broken bone let along surgery. Now I'll never worry about surgery, just the after effects. I have 3 drains still in place but thank the Lord that I have been draining well and they will be removed this Wednesday. BMH was just wonderful. If anyone ever needs service go there....I was treated in the outpatient area even though I stayed the night and they gave me and my husband a private room. They let me go home the next morning due to the fact that my husband took the week off work and like I said before is also a Dr. so he would know the what and why's if an emergency was an issue. The bottom line of the last 30 days is with this being breast cancer month, all you ever hear of are the lumps people feel. I had none of those symptoms, no lump, no discharge, just a small inversion. This is the word that women also need to know. Thanks for letting me tell others of my story. If anyone lives in N. Michigan I would love to know of a good support group. My node tests will be in tomorrow and even though they were neg in the surgery room the final path test will now determine my next option.

    Sharon,

Welcome to the group.  I am so sorry to hear of your journey down this road.  You were so lucky to have been in touch with your body and hence found the cancer.  It sounds like Beaumont has been treating you well...I also use Beamount (my cancer dx was over 3.5 years ago).

I do not know of a support group in Tawas...but I do know Tawas!  My folks have a place in Harrisville, so we drive thru Tawas on a regular basis.  I also spent some time in my childhood, on Tawas Lake.

Please take care of yourself and I wish you a peaceful recovery.  Perhaps with your husband being a doctor, you might be able to have some treatments upnorth?

Our MI group consists of ladies of all ages and walks of life.  We have been meeting every so often, for a few years now.  We even walked in the Race for the Cure as a team.  I hope you will be able to join us for an upcoming event.

Hi to all and welcome to our new ladies!

Gosh, November will be here and gone before we know it!  I'm not coming home until the 9th and have to get pics done on the 10th.  So, don't plan around me!  I think the 17th and 18th are clear and the next weekend is Thanksgiving!

And the first couple of weekends in December if you all aren't to busy then.

Let me know what you come up with!

    Hugs,

    Sharon,

Sorry you had to join our group. You will find this site a useful tool. Just know we are here for you. I live in lower MI but have visited the Lighthouse in Tawas. I too had DCIS almost at my one year surviorship date (Nov. 1). Best wishes on your path report.

Not Me - Glad you are back on board with us I like your lighthouse avatar. I love to visit lighthouses, we have been to several in MI. My kitchen is decorated in lighthouses.

I have PM Susieloo she is another newcomer from MI. She just returned home from bi-lateral surgery. I'm sure she would like to hear some "well wishes" from her MI sisters.

Susie we are thinking of you and hope you have a speedy recovery.

    take care

Hi everyone....The new kid on the block (that's MeCool) just received my path report on the nodes....Everythings good!!!! My doctor said she does not think it's necessary for any additional treatment, but still would like me to meet with an Oncologist for a second opinion. I guess this is just a precauction measure because even sentialnode testing is not 100%. Has anyone you know ever had chemo in a small dose as a preventative measure, or is this not done?

As for my drains, the PC took them out at my appointment on Wednesday, what a relief, I feel like I can breath again. It felt so weird when he was pulling them out, not at all painful, just a weird, wonderful type feeling. I had expanders put in place during the first surgery and they are still painful and hard. Anyone have any suggestion on stretching or massaging before my first fill date in 2 weeks? At the first procedure the PS put in about 5 oz. on each side. On a funny note, I feel bigger now that before the surgery since I was not even an A cup, now I have these moundsLaughing. Thank you for this wonderful site, it is a pleasure to have someone to type to at 5 a.m. when you can't sleep. Sharon

Linda, did you get my message?

Irene, how are you?  I miss seeing you SE MI ladies, but my trips to Detroit don' seem to coincide with get togethers.  Maybe I'll do better in the future.  Since I wrote last, I've had pneumonia twice, once almost fatally, needed two units of blood too, but I finally realized a lifelong dream--a trip to EGYPT!  As a history teachwer I always wanted to see the temple at Karnak and the Nile, and now I have.  It was fantastic and worth spending Thanksgiving in the hospital.

Susan I'm sorry you had to join this group, but believe me it will help a lot.

Faith and fifty-Thanks for checking in on us!

Luckyanna-Fabulous!   What an awesome trip for you.  Did you go with family or friends?

Everyone else...happy holidays.  Its my favorite holiday...I love Christmas.  We actually cut our tree last weekend as it was the only time our daughter could be home.  The house is decorated and we have even been to Frankenmuth.  I still have to get out those cards though.  How is everyone???  Smile

Question? Where did you cut down your tree? Larry and I would like to do that-gotta love Frankenmuth too!!

Wow..Anna would have loved that trip; so glad that you could enjoy it!

Hope all is doing well. Does anyone know if/and around this area anyone does sleigh rides? My son is coming up from Atlanta, just thought it might be fun to do that assuming we have enough SNOW!

Chris, great to see you post. By the way what is that avatar of? Reminds me of the lighthouse up north?
