I am going for a bath and then I am going out for a midnight walk ...or I will never sleep...catch ya all soon...have a lovely day xxx
-
Sue, regarding the numbness, nerves heal much more slowly than other tissues. The little ones will start "waking up" in a few weeks. Larger ones will take 6 months to a year. There may be spotty areas that will always be numb.
The sun just came out. Your plans for a walk made me think about doing the same. My dogs would love a turn around the little park nearby.

Thx Towhee...all this advice is great.....yes a lovely walk ...I will have to take my torch out tho...lol....I love walking a dark peaceful night....I will go for another tmw ...I hope it doesnt rain...it always rains in the UK whenever I plan .... take care everyone....

Wow - a midnight walk! I love walking at night too or early on fresh mornings.
Sorry to hear that you have an infection - I've had similar and the antibiotics seem to work really quickly.
I felt very emotional on the 4th day after surgery - the day after I came home. I think it was a reaction to the drugs, surgery, the whole emotional roller coaster plus I had an infection in the SNB end of my wound.
Perhaps you might get some funny DVDs to watch over the weekend. I'm a great believer in the healing power of laughter.
hugs,
gb

I want to sign up for the xmas card exchange too! I love Christmas. Don't know how much fun it will be this year since I'll be knee deep into chemo, but I'm hoping for the best.
Sue, I'm sorry that you have an infection and that you were feeling a little low today. It's totally normal to be depressed after surgery. Your body has been through a trauma. Having an infection on top of it all doesn't help. You poor thing. I'm glad your doctor didn't insist on seeing you before he prescribed you an antibiotic.
Rest well, sweetheart. Tomorrow will be a better day. A nice walk may be just what you need to help you feel better physically and emotionally.
Love and hugs,
Karen

I am SOOOO proud of you Sue! You are already up and about and offering support to others on the boards here! Didn't we tell you what a strong and exceptional person you are? Absolutely incredible! I can't believe you went and checked in with everyone at the Subways. I can imagine how shocked they were to see/hear from you. You are going to make it through this whole ordeal with flying colors. You are an inspiration to us all!!!
Love and hugs,
Karen
-
Karen xx ya maketh me
........thankyou....all of you inspire me..
Thankyou runs deep from me to you all.....there isnt a tunnel deep enough for it xxxx
-
Sue, OMG you are one tough cookie. Out & about all ready!!! And helping others as well. Just goes to show you that you had "it" all along. You just needed to believe!!
One of the weird things about going thru this journey is that life goes on. Meals need to prepared, cleaning still needs to get done, bills need to be paid, the boys will still have homework to do,etc. you get my drift. Meanwhile, the treatments become rountine and you wind up living your life as "normal" as possible. It truly is a unique experience.
I'll be leaving tomorrow on holiday as you British say and will be returning next Saturday. I will definitely miss being on the boards but my thoughts and prayers will be with you.
Valerie
-
Valerie....so nice to hear you're going on your holidays....I hope you have a lovely time ...... leave your troubles behind ..... I will look after them....haha ....I will be awaiting you...no doubt knee deep in rambling posts xxxx
And you are so right life does go on....I stuck my tongue out today in the direction of the hospital lab on my drive to work.... Mr Boil in a bag bootface C^&*#R...Today 'I did it my way' ...ha ha Frank Sinatra..what a beautiful song...must get that on my MP3..
Rambling.......again
Much Love xxx

Now, see I will never look at boil in a bag food again without association...and its not bag its testube so I will stop putting things into my head xxx lol sorry x

What a joy to wake up and read your wonderful posts! I love your creative terminology Sue! Maybe we should start a special thread for unique, creative, insulting terms for this disease! Some of it would be unprintable so I had better not write what I am thinking of right now!!
Loved hearing about your going back to work - wow - you did shock the pants off them there! And here was I thinking you would spend a restful day! Not our Sue - the dynamo is back - lol!
I have to go and help a friend who is having a garage sale (I think it is called a car boot/trunk sale and lots of other things overseas) and he wants us to be there by 7am so I had better get going.
Poppy, hang in there - am thinking of you. And Valerie, have a wonderful holiday.
Love to all

Hi gb xx
Hope your have a great carboot today! And that you make loads of spondoolies.
You dont half get up early! Tell me when you are next online what the time difference is...are you behind the UK ...I always get confused...
Yes it would be great to vent our insults at the boil in a bag ...I have a way with taking words to the edge.....we could create a whole new dictionary of phrases... lol...
Have a lovely day ......
Going for a bath xxxxxx zonked out xx
-
Sue , hope you had a lovely bath and are sleeping soundly. I just grilled a couple steaks for me and my SO. Its Sweetest day here , so I thought we'd have grilled steak one more time before the snow starts to fly! Hope you are having a calm , peaceful night.
Oh , I do have a question , what is a "spondoolies"!?
Hugs , Melody
-
Oh Sue, I love the "torch", we call it a flashlight, and the boot, we call it a trunk. hahaha it is so much fun and you are quite a gal! Up and running around so soon! HOOORAAYYY
Lets see, a few others. We DO speak the same language though. You are a shining love to us all and you will forever have to log on and tell us what your life is doing. We will never let you go.
Oh, here in San Diego, you are 8 hours AHEAD of us, the Eastern gals, you are 5 hours ahead of them, New York, Philly, etc. I think?
Love you, Shirlann -
Hi Sueps,
I, too was 38 when I first discovered a small something in my breast. My doctor said it was nothing and a year and a half later, that thing being bigger, it was diagnosed as cancer. I was at stage two. It has been two years now. I did not do a mastectomy as I was not ready for it, but I see why it is better. I now have to worry about doing mri's, and mamograms.
-
Keep on surprisin 'em Sue.... it's great to feel good enough to go out and about!!!! Wear a pillow in between you and the seatbelt the first time you do drive though!!!!

Hi Sue,
It's great to hear that you are up and about - life does go on. I was the same - although it took a little longer for me as I had a double mast. But here I am 9 months later and through the other side!!!
I think you are about 7 hours behind Oz.
Love

Hi Sue , thanks for letting me know what spondoolies are! I'm sorry your still on the emotional roller coaster. I'm still in the mits of "chemo brain". I thought it was sweetest day yesterday , but its not until next Saturday!!
I could of swore when I left work Fri. , I looked at my desk calendar , and thought it read the 14th. Oh well , The steaks were good anyway.lol
Sue , I'm not sure how long the pain lasts. I had reconstruction with my mast. and I was on my back along time. It was soo nice when I could finally lay on my side or stomach.
-
Melody ....it is the 14th today! your calendar said right.... god save the Queen when I am on chemo brain .... and sweetest day sounds lovely .... what is this...it is halloween here at the end of the month ......and then bonfire night...do you celebrate these....they are so much fun!!
I feel I will never lie on my side again in my life....everything today feels like it is cutting under my arm ...but theres nothing there...and I have an itch for the bits that have gone, its making me v v cranky to say the least.
Much Love xxx
-
So sorry to post again but is there anything I can do about the pain under my arm...like use ice or something...I feel like a knife is cutting into it ... its making me sob with misery...SO SORRY
-
Make sure you are taking something for that pain Sue first and foremost. Although it is important to exercise it all and stretch gradually, you also need to rest it. If you are like me you are over doing it because it is just what you do and you want to be back to normal. They healing process takes time - make sure you are not wearing anything restrictive either - even armhole sleeves aggravated me at first. I drove for the first time at a week. I went to work in two weeks but was still limited with my mobility. I would reach for something out of habit (also right handed) and then go WHOAH wait a minute. It was three weeks post op before I could lie on my right side - but you gotta remember I also had a drain in for 22 days at home too. So it may be less time for you.
When my "pit" was throbbing I would lie or sit down move my arm a bit away from my side and have a pillow supporting the weight of my arm. Sometimes on my lap if I was sitting but in a semi lying position I could really put it up on pillows so it stopped rubbing against itself and was elevated with my elbow crooked. Does that describe it?
But don't be a hero - take something - if it was not prescribed for you then buy some over the counter stuff - I think you have paracetamol there, or equivalent. Just eat a bit before you take them so you don't upset your tummy on top of everything else.
