Hi Ladies,
Turns out I can't make it on the 11th; I am so sorry to miss it! Have fun, and I will try to meet up with you in Sept ... my son, girlfriend, and daughter are all coming home, and my daughter has made several wedding related appts. August is crazy at our house!
Melia -
I have a babysitter so I am still planning on coming. Sure will miss you Melia and you to Shirlann.
-
Question:
Did any of you stop losing your hair before it was all gone?
I think mine has stopped falling out. -
I shaved my off soon after it started falling out. My head did eventually get smooth but there was still some stubble for a long time.
-
All I get is "Welcome, Shirlann", and then I see the others type, but I have no where to type and just sit there looking stupid.
Hugs, Shirlann -
SDStar Lisa - Yes, my hair did exactly that: it began falling out in earnest on Day #17 and came out for a few day and I thought I was a goner. But then it just stopped.
I didn't do any vigorous blowouts or anything, and since it was short, I would just finger-fluff and style. But I had been blessed with very thick and naturally wavy hair, so I could lose a whole bunch and still have plenty to wear around. I figured any day without a wig or scarf was a good day. I ended up getting the clippers out for my daughter's custom buzz-cut on Day#31, well after what I had expected. And even then, we were both astounded at the volume of hair that she kept plowing through. But it had started getting really thin at the temples - and wouldn't you know it, that's the one place my new five-o'clock shadow is not really kicking in yet, either.
If yours has stopped falling out, enjoy it while you can! Even after my buzz-cut I had several wild hairs that held on and grew the whole time and had a gentle fuzz in most areas, but was for all intents and purposes, BALD.
I have enjoyed not having to worry about shaving my legs and arm pits. I do think the legs may be coming back this week or next. When the sun catches it at just the right angle in the late afternoon, I can see a few blonde hairs along my lower calves. Even a few blonde stragglers on my arms, but really only about four . Now I want more than six eyelashes!!!
Lisa -
Oh, Melia, I am so bummed that both you and Shirlann can't make it on the 11th. Two of our founding members! But I guess it is inevitable when summertime is happening - vacations, weddings, wedding plans. SoCal Lisa, you'll be back from Cooperstown, right?
I know you both will be having fun on the 11th - and so will we - just as a more 'intimate' group! Heck it'll be easier to talk across the table to each other this time. I could barely call down to 3boysforme last visit!
Lisa -
I'm still on for the 11th, but will miss Melia and Shirlann. I finally had my surgery last Wednesday and had the drain removed Friday. They did the lumpectomy and the took the sentinel nodes. The surgeon was concerned that there may be more lymph node involvement than was originally thought. I'll find out Friday if it means an additional surgery. I'm doing fine from the surgery except I have a lot of numbness. Did anyone else experience this, is it normal or might he have gotten a nerve?
Anyways, looking forward Saturday ;-)
Lisa #3 -
Yes, I am sorry to miss it too. It's a crazy month for me. Lisa # 3, I am numb in my armpit and a bit of my arm, but I had an axillary, not sentinal. And maybe this will help ... the surgeon took 34 nodes, expecting significant involvement, and they were all clear. Hopefully you will get good results too.
I am hoping to catch up with everyone in Sept; am out of town the 15th, but other than that, in town all month, as far as I know.
Melia -
I'll be there this Saturday. I am sure SoCal said she would be back in time. I can't wait for my time with my bc.org friends. Especially after spending the week at the cyber pinkstock party.
-
GRRRR, I am so annoyed I can't be with you dearies! Dang it! I sit here week after week with nothing, then two things on the same day!
Yes, the back of my arm and my underarm are dead as a doornail. 8 & 1/2 years later. But back then, no SNB, so I had the full monte.
Love you gals, Shirlann Oh! We went to see the bodies and really loved it, it was so interesting. -
Lisa #3, I will be crossing fingers, sending vibes and saying prayers that the node news is good news for you. I had distinct numbness and shooting pains right after my nodes were done (only 3) and it pretty quickly settled down to much less and now is just shooting, zinging pain if my arm is fully extended over my head.
SDStarfish/Lisa - How was your chemo yesterday? Starting to get the hang of this routine? Drink, drink. drink some more and get lots of rest. Even if you don't think you need it yet. It'll help when day 3 and 4 hit. {{HUGS}}Hope we get to see you on Sat. Let me know if a ride would help you.
Shirlann - It took me a moment or two to figure out what you were possibly talking about. BODIES?!? Then I remembered. Glad you had fun.
Lisa -
I am home at last..and will be there!!
SoCal -
Thanks for asking, chemo # 3 is still rough. Main problem is my ulcer, which seems to get worse with each treatment. But no migraines this time, since I refused the Nuelasta shot. Really hoping to see you all tomorrow. I should be fine to drive.
-
Hi Ladies,
Thanks for the invite. I got here too late to get ready to meet some of you. I will bookmark this thread and pop in once in a while. I can see we all live in paradise! -
Here we are again..so good to see everyone..
BMD, 3boys4me, LisaSDCA, and SoCal -
Great job clipping that pic SoCal. I had such a relaxing time with you all today. We sure did miss the ones that could not make it but I think we were a bit quieter this time.(LOL)
We tentatively scheduled for Sept 16th at El Torritos on Villa La Jolla Dr at 11:30. It is a Sunday for a change so we sure hope everyone can come. -
That's the only weekend in Sept that we are out of town, so I guess I will try to catch up with all of you in Oct. Our daughter's wedding is Oct 6, but other than that, I think Oct is open.
Missed you all today!
Melia -
It was so fun to chat with my San Diego BC.org sisters again. We've all got so much happening. But the rest of you were sorely missed, indeed. Thanks especially, SoCalLisa for managing to make us all look so good in our monthly group picture. You can almost tell I've lost 5lbs. of my chemo weight!
Darn it Melia! I remembered that you said the 15th was out, which is one of the factors that pushed us to the Sunday for this date (and to save Brenda the sitter $$$). Also, we knew that Shirlanne and I get special dispensation to miss church once every six months if we are spending time with Breast Cancer patients.
Okay - it was just a tentative proposal date anyway. Let's try again. How about same time, same place, weekend of 8th-9th, or 22nd-23rd? Any preferences or conflicts? Please check in and say. I've been PMing with another San Diego sister, nash, who is trying to work us into her schedule who thinks the 22nd may work for her. I am supposed to be going to the Monterey Jazz Festival that weekend, but I think my being up for a major hoopla 4-day weekend are slim at best.
Lisa -
Hi Lisa..you always look good in our pictures...
You have that sparkle in your eye..
the last Sunday will work for me actually any Sunday..I have to work on that last Saturday but Sunday is OK...any Sundays in Sep work..
Everyone please check in!!
Hugs, SoCal -
Sorry to have missed you today. Sick from chemo...A-GAIN. Looking forward to September...can't do 15th or 16th, but if you schedule any of the other weekends, let me know. Maybe you can help me celebrate being finished chemo!
-
Hi sisters! I am planning to be their in September, NO MATTER WHAT!
So, which off ramp and which direction form 5 North?
Love you all, Shirlann -
Hi,
I can do any time in Sept except the weekend of the 15th ... pick an alternate date and I will be there. Glad you all had fun, and you look wonderful. I missed you, but the weekend has been jammed with wedding planning tasks, which had to be done.
Melia -
O.K. girls so the 16th is out. We have another bc.org ladie that will be in town from OK from Sept 18-23. Jan/Wildabouthorses is coming into town to see her son. She will be staying in Old Town. Maybe we could meet with her on the 22nd. Socal you said there was a good mexican place there. LisaSD you can get something there that you will like I promise. So what do you think? I emailed Jan and asked her if that will work for her. If not maybe a couple of us who can go during the week can meet with her while she is in town. I will figure out the babysitter $$. You all don't need to be concerned with that.
-
Just bumping for you all to read last post. SoCal maybe you could email that post to everyone on the list. I don't have anyone's email address' now.
-
Brenda..I will do that...
-
Hey, I've even been to Acapulco restaurant before and had a chipotle lime chicken something-or-other. I'm not a total honky! My favorite Italian restaurant in the whole city is there (and not as pricey as all of them in the Gaslamp) Jack & Guilio's. YUM! But you kind of have to scam on the parking. It is easier at Acapulco.
It would be great to meet a visiting bc.org sister while she is in San Diego. I can do the 22-23rd weekend or maybe join a smaller get-together weekday since I am only 10 or 15 min. from Old Town. I have a surgeon's appointment on the 20th, but it's in the early morning, so even that day is do-able.
Let's see what we can put together!
Lisa -
O.K. this is the plan. Jan/Wildabouthorses is going to meet us at http://acapulcorestaurants.com/map.aspx?locationID=35
at 11:30 on Saturday Sept. 22. So far I have 6 people. I will check to see if Jan's husband and son will be joining us. We may need a reservation for this luncheon girls. How fun. I hope more of you can come. Shirlann I have not heard from you yet either. I hope you know we moved the venue. Nash I hope you can join us too. Oh just everybody come. I can't name you all right now. -
Don't forget about the underground parking.
-
Sounds great!
Melia
