Philly get together

Thanks, Mar, for the narrative of who's who in the pix! Great idea since not many people know who we are!! It was such a wonderful afternoon!! I believe Cheryl is Rockvixen. I don't think Marie is a chatter. Hope all is well, Mar.
Hugs,
Shelley -
Oops! I completely forgot to put the names on there! I will go back and edit the pics! Sorry girls.
-
Has anyone heard from Beth or her husband about how her surgery went?
-
OK, gang...I am here back from surgery in case anyone missed other reports. Hillary, I am fine although still in pain. Drains are still in. have not gotten a path report back yet. The surgery was long and they needed to go back in a 2nd time because the right side developed necrotic tissue. I will PM my phone number if you want to call. I go to the ps this afternoon and find out what is next.
-
BTW...the next get-together is coming up this Saturday! It will be back at the Cheesecake Factory in K of P at noon. Please post adn let us know if you are going. I will be playing it by ear.
-
So glad to hear from you, Beth! I'm keeping you in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
I'm sorry I have been absent. The pictures on my camera from last month didn't turn out very well - the flash didn't go off for one picture and the angle the waitress took the other picture from was bad. I'll have to check with the family, but if I go this Saturday we can try it again.
Jen -
Hey Beth, I have wanted to call but my schedule with this clinical trial is chaotic. I'm an hour away from Philly and my hospital (U of Penn) and here in the last few weeks, I'm there 2 to 3 times a week. My trial is done Monday..yea but my nerves are binging off the walls knowing in one week I'll have my surgeries (right mastectomy, DIEP, lift on left breast and belly button fixing).
I am so glad to hear your feeling up to the get together. I was wondering about it and had it penciled onto my chaotic calender. I have every intention of attending but I have two potential problems that might cause me not too. My dh never goes to the office on Saturdays but may have to this weekend. He's trying to get out of it because he knows I had plans. Well even if he succeeds, my 7 year old son is teetering on being sick. He has a cough that I'm convinced is croup and nasal problems. I'm trying to combat it with some medicine but only time will tell if it's working.
All that said if I can, I will be there. I should know for sure by tommorrow evening.
Praying for your speedy recovery.
Hugs, Cheryl -
hi guys. I am not really feeling up to it tonight to take the drive out to K of p. probably in June. Please elt Shelley know. I hope she peeks in here! I will call her too.
-
Hi Ladies.
Beth - I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Hope you're doing better quickly.
Cheryl - You're going to be fine!
I'm not well this week and won't be able to go tomorrow, either. I'm planning on being all better by next month, though.
Jen -
Hi everyone. We're going to have to re-schedule tomorrow's get-together. Jen and Beth are both not feeling well. I sent e-mails to Nancy and Marie. Don't have Cheryl's phone number, but hoping she sees this post. Just spoke with Beth and she suggested we just re-schedule for a date in June - at Cheesecake Factory. Mary mentioned after last month's get-together that she probably wouldn't be able to make it tomorrow because they go to the shore on weekends during the summer. Hope all are well. We'll talk real soon. Hugs to everyone. Cheryl - we'll be thinking of you next week. Gentle hugs to you and Beth!!!!
-
Thanks for posting Shelley. I am sure I will be feelign better by June. If not, we have a problem, Houston!
-
Love and hugs to all ... turns out I'm home this weekend, but only because Den's father is in hospice and we're doing the death watch (sorry, but that's how it goes) ...
To Cheryl and Beth, major gentle hugs. Looking forward to seeing both of you again for fun deserts!!!! -
Hi! I just had my last chemo on Tuesday 22 May!! I'm looking forward to meeting you all at the next get together.
Beth -- So glad all went well ...
-- Hillary -
Hi Philly ladies! I just wanted to let you know that my availabilities for a June get-together are either June 2 or June 23. June has turned out to be a busy month for me. Hope everyone can coordinate calendars and we can meet again at The Cheesecake Factory. I'll keep checking for everyone's availability for June. Hugs!! Shelley
-
I won't be able to meet in June. We have bought a puppy and are picking her up in N.Y. on June 23. Please keep me posted about the next get-together.
-
Hi you guys. As of today, if I had to commit to a June get-together, I couldn't do it. I feel really lousy and long car rides are not in the cards. This infection has me so tired all day long. And the PICC line is annoying as all get out. Hopefully by the end of the 2 weeks on Vancomycin I will be feeling better. Sounds like it will a last-minute for me.
Shelley, congrats on the new puppy! Need me to save newspapers for little piddles?
Cheryl, when you get home we will catch up. You didn't have an easy time either. And Jen, keep feeling better. Mar, hope it is an easy time for your FIL and keep us psoted. Love and prayers to everyone. -
Beth, hope you're feeling better these days - shoot me an email if you get the chance and feel up to it. Shelley - what kind of puppy??? Hillary - how wonderful to be done chemo - congrats!! And updating about my f-i-l, he died this past Wednesday. Services Sun night/Mon morning. Thanks for the prayers. It wasn't a terribly sad event, we all had time to say goodbyes, which makes so much difference. Okay - hope to see you guys again before the end of summer.

Hey I did an updated post on the reconstruction board. My simple 4 day stay, mastectomy and DIEP turned into 9 days with 3, yes you heard me right, 3 post operative complications. My right lung partially collapsed, I sent off all sorts of bells and whistles when my breathing become labored and the air ratio was poor. Pnuemothorax had moved in and I was on oxygen for several days. On a chest Xray due to my lungs misbehaving, they found a small pulmonary embolism that wasn't there a wek prior during my study tests. I'm on rat poison or should I say coumidin for the next 6 months. Fun, fun, fun. Now as far as the reason I was actually there, the mastectomy went well and the reconstruction, well I haven't looked this good since I was 25!!!! NODES ARE CLEAR!!!!!!!!! All that said, June is tough. I am having a slow recovery due to my breathing. I have been asthmatic nearly all my life but this is just plain scary. Besides I on a 5 speed mustang and I still can't drive it. Love to see you all soon and thanks for the well wishes and prayers.
Beth I hope you're doing better. Hillary, we never met ut congrats on finishing chemo. Shelley, have fin with the puppy. Ours turns one next month (english setter) and Mar, so sorry to hear but take comfort in knowing he is at peace now.
Love and hugs to all and let me know about July.
Cheryl
"Dream until your dream come true" Aerosmith -
Hi you guys! I hope to be up to going out in July. I got rid of the PICC line last wednesday and the ps put me on Levaquin for 2 weeks. the infection is between the skin and the allowderm and it is ot the implant. He says he is being "cautiously optomistic". I just feel so lousy and so tired all the time. Both docs tell me it is the infection and the low-grade fevers I run all the time. Still have Larry wiping the incisions and the one drain site with betaddyne after my shower.
Good news, I can bathe by myself except I need help with my hair because of the last drain. When they took a culture, the ps took a big lenght off so it has a short leash, so to speak. Being the clown I am, I had named the 4 of them after the Beatles, and Ringo is the last to leave. He has to be under 30 cc's for 48 hours before ps pulls him. I also named my new girls, laverne and shirley, Laverne is on the left and of course, that is the one more shapely but giving me trouble. They have graduated from blobs and are now bloobs since they are not exactly looking like reagular breasts yet.
Shelley, check in and give me a call. Mar, hope you are all getting back to normal. Cheryl, glad to hear you are contmeplating going out. Jen hope you are feelign better. Hilary, yeah, no more chemo!!!!
Hope we can find some time when we are all up to it to get together. Soem of the gals from south jersey want to meet over on City Avenue because it is closr for them. Like Houlihan's or Friday's or Chili's. Let me know! -
Beth --
Glad to hear that you're getting better -- you had me worried for there! I've started rads, 2 down 34 more to go! Getting together in July sounds good and City Avenue is great for me! Hope you continue on the mend ...
Hugs,
Hillary -
Hey all...I could make a Philly get-together too. I'm only an hour away. Hillary, I'd love to meet another FCC!
-
Hey Beth! Glad you're doing better, but sorry you're still dealing with crap! I named my new girls, too. Dixie and Daisy. Todd said I need a tattoo of a flower on one and of the rebel flag on the other so he knows the difference. )
I'll probably be out of commission for a while yet as I'm now going in for a total abdominal hysterectomy on July 2. My ovaries, which we thought had shriveled up and died between chemo and Zoladex, have come back to life and my estrogen levels are high. Not good - so I'm getting everything yanked. *sigh* Two years of this stuff and I'm ready for it to be over!
That said, when I CAN get out and about again, I'm willing to drive to Center City. I loves me a road trip! LOL -
Oh Jen, we may not go that far into the city, just City Avenue, Rt. 1. I hate paying for parking rates in town so we will hit the hills of the Main Line and maybe get some new faces! Sorry you are still having more surgery. I had just the ovaries out 5 years ago and now in hindsight maybe I should have had the full enchilada!
Here's a cute little guy (?...I didnot get to check under the tail) to keep you company as you heal and get back to us! -
As for you, Cheryl, here is a warrior kitty to help you keep on the good fight too! Call me any of you guys and we can talk. I have regional calling so if you don't I will call you back. Love each and every one of you!
-
Beth & Cheryl - how are you girls doing?
I had my surgery not quite two weeks ago and I'm feeling pretty good.
Do we have a date for the next get together yet? -
I've really been keeping to myself the past half year, dealing with a plethora of SE's and frustrated beyond all belief.
I find it unfathomable that medicines meant to help can create so much havoc. Anyway, having chucked most of them AMA I am feeling like a veil has been lifted and wonder of wonders may finally be able to make it to the next get-together.
Anyway, If it is in the KOP area, you may want to consider a new chain with a good reputation for lunch. It's called Legal Seafood and is in the Court--apparently filling Houlihans former place.
Here is Craig La Ban's review
http://www.philly.com/inquirer/columnists/craig_laban/20070722_Legal_Sea_Foods.html -
Having spent six years of my life in Boston, I can attest to the reputation of Legal Seafood. It's quite good! I totally agree with Craig LaBan's review -- stick to the tried and trued seafood dishes ...
I'm almost done with rads (two more weeks) and then this long saga is over, except for the ongoing doctor's visits and scans to make sure that the beast doesn't return!
Hope that I can meet the Philly girls crowd soon ...
Hugs,
Hillary -
I live in KOP. Count me in.
-
Well, here is a call out to everyone in the Philly area. I think it may be a bit tough to get people out during the summer months. It is vacation season and camp for the kids and gosh knows what else. So ho wabout we plan for September.

Narberth Mom (Hillary)
Jen
Beth
