Hi everyone!
I had a mastectomy with sentinel node biopsy on March 5, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia. I am currently undergoing chemotherapy. I live in Plymouth which is fairly near Garden City and Livonia. I would love to meet some of you for lunch or dinner. -
Hi everyone,
I finally signed up for the Race. Cant wait. It was a great time last year.
Welcome to all the new ladies. Sorry you had to join the club but glad you found us. I hope you can make the Race or our next get together.
Winggirl Congrats on finishing rads!
Trish So glad to hear youre feeling better. Remember to try to not do too much. Rads can be really tiring.
Mary - we'll definitely do another team photo. I'll be glad to take it. :-) I hope we can stick together during the walk also. Especially since I was stuck on the trolley last year.
Im off to pack. I have to go to Indiana for three days for work. Yay.
Take care,
Irene -
Hey Irene...I am in OH for four days of work. Go figure!
Team...I was downtown today and checked out the area. There is a park about two or three blocks away...with a tent in case it rains. But...we would have to keep food on ice for several hours. Hockey Town seems likely...should we try to bargain with them on holding a place for our team? They didn't seem too busy last year...and probably would welcome the business.
Bret and I are walking this year...to keep with the team. You gals are awesome!!! -
We have 30 members as of this morning! Irene - I was wondering when you were going to sign up and glad you did. My friend, her friend and daughter signed up last night. I can think of two more friends who are planning on joining.
Sure hope 3Bears and her family still join us. How about our Candian buddies?
Hope all is well with everyone.

Nancy -
Irene Sure glad you signed up for the race. I was just telling Bob yesterday afternoon how many Team members there are so far this year and he asked about you. I told him you hadn't signed up yet, now I can break the good new to him.
Mary -
I was getting worried about Irene also since she is going to help me pack up the t-shirts!
Mary, I think we will have to meet in the "Team Meet" area this year because there are too many of us to meet at the survivor's tent. This is the area where they have professional photographers taking the team pictures. (You can't weasel out of getting in the picture, Irene). So, I think we should do a team picture. We will be fine if you and I don't stand next to each other! I mean, your big head will only accentuate my little head! I'M KIDDING YOU KNOW!!!
It would be nice if those of us not running or taking the shuttle, walk together. It is hard to do though but that is the plan! -
Nancy You are too funny.........I forgot about the big head/little head thing. I agree, my big head is not getting anywhere near your little head in any picture LOL
-
The deadline is at midnight tonight. We have 31 members. And my brother and family are joining as well.

Hey everyone, do you ever check out your fundraising page? Rockysmom received an anonymous donation today of $100.00!
Please thank those who are contributing, if you know who they are.
Speaking of thanks - THANKS KATS. I have two new kittens and one was very sick. Thanks to Kats, I have her eating a special diet of fresh food and she looks like she is going to pull through!

Nancy -
Looks like I missed the deadline. I actually got myself together and drove my daughter up to Mackinac Island where she will hopefully be working all summer. I know I can't walk 3 miles because about a mile on the island almost killed me, but is there any way to sign up late for the team? Is anyone else going to ride the trolley? Is there a handicapped parking area closer than the 1/2 mile I had to waljk last year? If I can't do this, I'd still like to be included in any get together since I missed the last luncheon. I had a small victory last week. My breast surgeon from Henry Ford whom I loved had refused to prescripe a lymphedema sleeve because I didn't have lymphedema. He said I didn't need one since I wasn't flying to Australia or India. That kept me from flying anywhere since 04. Last week I went to see the onc. (against my pcp's wishes) at Beaumont. He wasn't in, but his nurse wrote the prescription & now I have the sleeve! Maybe I can see friends & relatives down south & out west now.
Ann -
Hi Ann,
You have plenty of time to join the team. The deadline was to save you $5.00. You sound like you are doing great. I cannot imagine driving all the way to Mackinac Island. Big or small victories - enjoy them!
We have several new women who are still going through treatment so I imagine you will not be alone on the Trolley.
We will meet by the 'Team Meet' area this year. I'll try to find out how far it is from the trolley pick-up point.
My kitten is a little punky again. Little thing is eating good but breathing funny. I'm taking her back to the vet.
We should have sunshine for a few days - whoohooo! -
Hi all, just dropping in to say hello, and getting excited to meet you all!
Nancy- that donation was from a friend of mine- he gave me cash as he doesn't use computer payments. I entered it with my credit card and just put anonymous on it. I have already thanked him profusely!
I was hoping to be able to get donations from work, but I'm still laid off. Trying to see if I can get into the plant with a visitor pass and go ask my former coworkers! -
Judy - It will be nice to meet you also! It is nice to have such generous friends. Thank him from all of us.
I got this email today and according to this, you can still sign-up for $25.00. It may be a team price but, I'll look into it.Quote:

I see there are some new members..welcome.
Just putting a bite out here to see if anyone is interested?
Lorie Anne -
I do....I am open 5/19 and 5/20.

I'd be open to meet on those days but ideally, June 3rd would be good since I'll have all the t-shirts by then.
I promised info about the Trolley but this was all I could find. I don't see on the map where the pick-up place is in relationship to the parking lots.
Also, after the frenzy of getting everyone to sign up and save money, it turns out that team member still get the discount rate!Quote:

Thank you, Laura Zubeck, Survivor Trolley Chair, and Mrs. Irene Walt, Honorary Trolley Hostess! If you are a breast cancer survivor who is registered for the Race, but not feeling up to a 5K or a One-Mile Walk, you can ride in style. Call (248) 351-1861 to reserve a spot on the Survivor Trolley.
As of today we have 37 team members!!!
Welcome Gayle and Jeanette! -
I will be joining the team tomorrow morning when I have my credit card info downstairs. Right ow it is upstairs & I am not. This may not seem like a big deal but at 10:30 a.m. with my back and kne pain, it is. I think I'll try to recruit my daughter from Kzoo. I'm trying desperately to get in shape to at least walk 2 mile. I'm trying the aquatics class approach since Rochester has the best senior center in the state with Core Strengthening and Healthy Joints classes every weekday. After 2 classes yesterday plus extra walking in the pol, I was a wreck.
Does anyone now anything about health care in the Kalamazoo/Portage area. My elder dauhter and and her husband want me to more there. It will be so difficult to lave the great friends I have here, but it may be the best thing for my 26 tear old who hasn't had much success. I don't think her father will let her mmove back into his huge house and Rochester can be isolated if you haven't got a good car & lots of money for gas.
I'd love to do lunch anytime. Just let me inow when and where.
Ann -
Anna - you are number 38 to join the team!
I do not know anything about the Kalamazoo area other than it is nice to drive through. Hopefully someone else will chime in from that area. -
For some reason they charged me $50 instead of $25 to register. Does anyone know how to undo this? I went off the pain pills to see how my back really is. I'm pretty sure that after a year my sacrum hasn't healed, so it may be the trolley again. Also is there any handicapped parking in lots that aren't far, far away from the race site?
Ann -
Anna,
You are shown as being a member and having a $25.00 donation in your name. I think what happened is that maybe you hit the link for "Online Donations" by accident when you were signing up? That link is on the same page as the one to sign up....
http://www.active.com/framed/event_detail.cfm?event_id=1416438
This is your donation page set up that show a $25.00 donation:
http://www.active.com/donate/detroitRFTC/kdARogers3
Here is the team page that shows you as one of the top fundraiser's.
http://www.active.com/donate/detroitRFTC/kdNB
I'm not sure how to undo this. You can write or call racelady (Jan Tabelman (248) 351-1861) raceforthecure@karmanos.org, send email or call the Active Help Desk, Toll-Free - 1-877-228-4881 option 1.
All of that sounds like a real pain in the rear. If you don't mind, I'll send you a check for $25.00 and donate the money to your page. All donations are for the team anyway. Let me know what you prefer.
Edited: I went ahead and sent the Active help desk email but still don't mind doing the donation if this is too much of a hassle. -
Thank you. They gave me back my $25 which I probably will now donate myself.
Ann -
Ann, I just got this email also so it looks like it is taken care of.
Quote:
I have refunded the $25.00 online donation that was made during the
registration process. You should see this on your credit card statement
within 7 business days.
Thank you!
