Trying hard to lose the pounds!!!!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for the nice anniversary wishes. Next week my DH is taking me to San Diego for 5 days as an anni. celebration. I can't wait. It was a very "off program" week for me but only gained .6 lbs. so I'm happy.
Eileen: You asked about my daughters. I only have one, she's an only child and tomorrow is starting her junior year at Villanova. Even after 3 years I miss her terribly when she is away and send her nightly hugs & kisses over the internet. Boy would I love for her to be little again.
RE: NYC Gathering. I haven't made any commitment yet. I'm hoping to be able to attend. I live on Long Island so making the trip isn't the question. I'm going to have to look at that post again to see all the details. It would be so wonderful to meet all of you.
RE: The new WW program. Tonight was my meeting. I'm not sure I like it. My DH says I'm so bad about change and I've been doing the points program for so long. I'll give it a try though. But it might be hard since I know there are some things my DH will not eat (such as whole wheat pasta even though its good for him) and I'm not cooking two different meals when it is just the two of us. But at least I can still stay with the points plan which has been so successful for me for 2 years. I actually might have an old WW recipe that I figured out includes all core ingredient foods. I'll post it here when I find it.
Well I've taken up enough space here. Good luck everyone this week. Enjoy the new plan. - Janet -
Eileen: I forgot to ask. Are you, by chance, doing the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Jones Beach in October. I just got info about it at work. Since you are also on Long Island thought you might be interested. I've done it in the past (my daughter's lacrosse team did it twice when she was in high school). The walk is the 2 1/2 miles each way along the boardwalk.

Hi Diva's...I am busy trying to read up about the core plan on line...............Then I will decide if I want to continue with points system or change.......What do you think of the core plan Janet,Diane,Marsha and Raven,Lois and Dawn ??????I hope you are all doing well..........I have to run...I will check in soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! xoxo,Patti
-
Patti: As of right now, I don't like it. Seems like too much of a "diet." I really feel like Weight Watchers is selling out and afraid of losing money because of Atkins and South Beach and jumping on that bandwagon. It seems "too" limiting to me. Plus you only get 35 points (besides the core foods) to eat a week. There are so many "healthy" foods I've gotten used to eating that now would total more than the 5 pts a day. I think I could do CORE for dinner no problem but breakfast and lunch would be a challenge. I've done too well with the Points system and am probably going to stick with that one. What's your opinion? I too am interested in what you other ladies think. - Janet
-
Hi all--hope you're all doing well.
Janet--sorry, I'll blame it on chemo-brain--thought you had told me you had 2 daughters. I'm sure it must be hard to have her away. I wish they didn't grow up so fast!!
Have a great time in San Diego! It's beautiful there and the weather is always comfortable! Hope you can make it to the luncheon in December (on Sat. the 11th).
I'm very interested in doing the Jones Beach walk, but I haven't seen any info. If you don't mind, please PM with some details or if there's a number I can call.
I'm just getting the hang of the points program, and now it's changing!! My meeting's on Saturday, so I'll see what it's all about. Janet is it more complicated???
Have to run my girls to their check-ups at the pediatrican. Have a great day everyone! -
Hi Divas on the run here, I started WW last week and liked the menus then i go for my weigh in today and see this new program. Looks very much like GI diet i was on.(I did lose weight 25lbs on it) but too much room for error)called overeating.........
So I am not a happy camper.anyone have any copies of weeks 1 (menu plans) etc of flex points. i would be happy to send you mailing and copy costs. the people at weight watchewrs wernt alot of help and frankly i wasn't impressed. I did lose 9.4 lbs last week but i Know it was a lot of fluid as i tend to retain fluids. So obviosly being back at gym every day helps me. Have appt with personal trainer next week. Nipple is looking good....
Hugs Floss -
Sorry I menat week 2 onwards
floss -
Floss: As I've stated before I have been a WW member for years. Let me know exactly what you are looking for and I will be more than happy to send copies to you. FYI- I've decided to stay with the Points program. After carefully reading over the Core Program, I don't like it. Too much of a "diet" (unless I'm just not "getting it"). My lifestyle at this stage of my life doesn't need that much structure. Please, let me know what you need. Always glad to help out a fellow WW. - Janet
-
Lois - DON'T GET DISCOURAGED. The weight will come off. Just think positive thoughts. Remind yourself that you did the walking and how good that is for you. Two years ago when I first started WW and the gym, I keep losing and then gaining back the same darn 1 lb. for 24 weeks. I never gave up though because I was losing inches (only wish I had measured myself - something you might want to try besides just looking at the weight). Just keep good thoughts. YOU WILL DO IT, I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN YOU. (Boy, sorry don't mean to sound so much like a WW leader). - Janet
-
Janet,
I must have gotten that same darn pound from you!!!!! That's what's been happening to me. Although I have to say I had indulged for a few weeks on and off. But I'm over that and thought I'd start losing again with me getting back to walking. I haven't measured in a while so I should do that tonight - but not sure I want to find out that that hasn't changed either!!! I was in the mood for my favorite mexican today for lunch, but . . . . I ate my Lean Cuisine like a good girl!! Yeah for me.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Hugs,
Lois -
Hey Divas..I have been having trouble getting back on track..
Lois Hang in there...You are training and that some times adds muscle...You are doing great........Hang in there Lois..You are my two step partner and we are going to do this!!!!!.YOu Rock!!
Janet thanks for keeping us all focused....We need to do that for one another...I am not crazy about the new plan....But I have to give it another look over...Maybe it is just me...
Floss I am a member of WW online...I am not too crazy about the new plan either..But the jury is still out...I have to finish reading up ....You are on the right track with the personal trainer..It sounds like you are doing good !! YOu bounced back fast and we are so happy to have you back.........
Hey Raven busy getting the children ready to go back to school?? Good luck with weigh in on Saturday...........Is it December yet?? LOL!!
Marsha where are you?? I bet you are out training !! You will have to whip me in shape..Keep me in line!!!!!!!!!! How are you doing with sleep issue's?
Oh Diane where are you..I am nervous when you are so quiet!! Are you in the chocolate again???????????? LOL! Check in we miss you....
Rosebudd where are you?????????????? I bet you are off on another vacation!! Good for you!!
As for me.....I am determined to get the rest of this weight off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I lost 1 pound in 2 weeks.........I do not care how long it takes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am going to do this........We all are........Our motto..."Aint no stopping us now" We're on the move!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aint no stoppin us now we got the groove" Have a great weekend Diva's!! xoxo,Patti -
Eileen - Tomorrow when I get to the office I will PM you the info on the Jones Beach walk. I don't have it at home.
Patti - I love the motto. When I go for my walk in a few minutes I'll be singing that song the whole time. What a great inspiration. Thanks.
Janet -
Hey Patti,
I love the motto too!!!! If I could sing, I'd be singing it on my walk tonight!!! As it is, I'll just say it under my breath.
Lois
my new "pudgy pixie" icon -
Lois--I think you are doing great. Hang in there, keep on walking and eventually the pounds will start to come off! (Love your new icon!)
Patti--what a great motto! That's my belief too--I'm just not going to give up, no matter how many times I stumble, no matter how long it takes, I'm going to stick with this!
Did a bunch of laps around the mall tonight, after picking up some school supplies. I remember when I was on A/C and had to go to get a present, I could barely walk the distance between a few stores, and now I'm doing laps! Feels good to have come this far!
Have my weigh in Sat. morning and will get a look at the new program. I like the points program, so I might just stick with this.
Have a great weekend everybody!! -
Divas,
I've been such a good girl, no indulging and I've been walking and do you think I lost any weight - NOT!!!!!!!!!!! What is up with that????? Last night walked for an hour - 2 1/2 miles (I did that 3 times last week) and tonight I'm going for 3 - and maybe 6 (once around the mall is 3 miles and if I can make it 2 x's that'll make 6)
A little discouragingwhen I've been so good for 2 weeks and doing my walking.
I know it's probably muscle gain, but I'd prefer fat loss right now!
I hope everyone else has had a better week.
Hugs,
Lois -
Hello ladies! Can I join your group?
Today I just finished my treatments - lumpectomy, re-excision, port in, 6 months chemo, port out, 33 radiation treatments.....and I am thrilled to get this behind me!!!
Speaking of "behind", mine has gotten way too big - too much comfort food and not enough exercise over the last few months. Actually, my husband and I were on a weightloss program at our church called First Place last fall. I told him that the first place I'd lose any weight was my bustline - it was and that's how I found my lump. Sooooooo, I went off the diet (I had lost 12 pounds and was so proud of myself) to get through the treatments.
So, now that THAT's done, I want to get back on track! I need to go back and read all the posts here to date. In the meantime, just thought I'd introduce myself and tag along! (I also want to learn the emoticons while I'm at it! They are a scream!).
Take care and have a great weekend!
Wendy -
Welcome Wendy. The Divas are a great group to join... Off to the gym and then going to try and figure out what to have for lunch. Floss
-
Hello, Divas...
Sorry about the absence, very busy week.
Wendy, welcome, welcome. We've all had to face losing that lovely chemo-related weight so you are definitely in the right place.
Patti, I love the motto. Congratulations on your progress. You will make goal because you won't stop until you do!!!
Lois, AHA!!! You've lost a bunch of inches. WOW!!! So you are obviously building muscle and getting rid of fat. Good for you!!! BTW, I left you a little something on your 3-day site. *giggle*
Eileen, Laps around the mall are fabulous. Like you, I still remember the few months right after Taxotere when I couldn't even tidy up a room without sitting down every three minutes. I'm so glad that horrible feeling is GONE!!!
Janet, you would make a great leader. In fact, I hereby nominate you as our BC.org WW leader. There! It's official!
I hit my first 10% star this past Sunday. Woohoo! I only need to do that about six more times to reach goal! LOL. Unfortunately, I will be lucky to not gain any weight this week. I'm not sure why, but I seem to be eating everything in sight this week. It's all healthy, but way too many calories. I'm still walking, walking, walking...
Have a terrific weekend. See you ladies next week. -
Lois - Congratulations on the inches lost. Those are just as important. See I told you not to be concerned.
Marsha - If I can truly help, I accept the nomination. Congrats on the 10%. Keep up the good work.
Eileen: I am PM you the info on the Jones Beach Walk.
I hope everyone has a great weekend. - Janet -
What a great thread!
Some resources that have worked for me:
1) THE BUSINESS PLAN FOR THE BODY, by Jim Karas. Has everything you need to know, all foods are allowed in moderation, exercise is critical. You will love the feeling of power you get from being in control.
2) Anything by JOYCE VEDRAL. My doctor actually wrote out a prescription for one of her books when I was diagnosed with thin bones! Vedral is 60 years old and a weight-lifting expert. She has books and videos, and a website.
Best blessings,
Sunflower -
Hey Wendy...We are so happy to have you here with us.....The more the merrier!! Congrats on finishing treatments....As you will see we are al trying hard to loose the pounds..We stumble and fall but we always get back up and back on track..............WE have a great group of women here!!

Floss you are so dedicated! You go...I am walking and trying to stay focused on that for now...It really makes me feel so much better...
Diane welcome home....We missed you....Hang in there we all have our moments....You have lots of stress at work right now and that does not help.....................
Eileen you are so good doing extra laps around the the mall...You have come a long way!! I am glad that you have your energy back...It is so nice to hear such wonderful reports....Good luck getting the girls ready...
Marsha congrats on your 10% milestone.. You should be very proud.....It is not easy....I know what you mean about having weeks where hunger is such an issue......What is it.. Can we blame it on the M word.....M-E_N_O_P_A_U_S_E ?? I would like to add the word FORCED to that....!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hang in there.....You are doing so well.................I second your motion to elect Janet as our official BC>ORG WW Leader!!! And I would like to nominate you for assistant Leader!!
Janet thank you so much for guiding us all along this path!! You are such an inspiration to all of us and we thank you for your support...Do you have any good recipes for us to try???? I think that is key..Variety..Keeps us from getting bored and we all know what that adds up to ................Straying!!!!!!!!
Wishing you all a safe and happy weekend..Be well and remember "Aint not stopping us now"...I have been playing that song every day!! It pumps me up!!! And so do all of you............Love you all!! xoxo,Patti -
Welcome Wendy,
Yep, this is a great support line for weight loss and bc!!!! I'm doing Ediets online and they have support groups too and I haven't even thought about joining that group. I love it here.
Janet, thanks for reminding me to measure. I measured this morning (last one was 6/20) - ready for this . . . . I lost 2.3" in my waist, 1" in my fat butt (hips) and 2 5/8" in my thighs. Whoohoo!! I do feel better now, plus I cheated and weighed today and the pesky bouncing 1 pound was gone - hopefully for good!! I do the 11 mile walk tomorrow - well let's say it's an 11 mile walk, and I will participate.
Patti, if I can get back on track so can you - just remember the Diva Motto.
Have a great weekend Divas!!!
Lois -
Hi Diva's - I haven't been negleting ya all- just been working my butt off..the auditors finally left and the financial package is on it's way to Germany...Hooray!
I just wanted to congratulate all of you on the wonderful job your doing. You gals are such an inspiration-I love the motto.
Yesterday I was trying to cram in some errands on my lunch hour and I stopped for a Mickey'Ds. You know-I didn't even enjoy it and wished I had a salad instead...yup that's right a salad! Go figure.
Keep up the good work ladies!
Luv Ya - Have a great weekend!

The grapefruit diet is back in the news again:
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=571&ncid=571&e=4&u=/nm/20040827/hl_nm/weight_grapefruit_dc
I don't know if this would be worth it to only lose 3+ lbs in 12 weeks. Then again if it works we won't be putting on 3+ lbs in 12 weeks. -
Hey Divas,
Just a note to tell you I "participated" in the walk today - the 11 mile walk that was actually 12.4. You can read all about my adventure under Get Togethers - SF 3-Day. I got "swept" today at 7 miles due to a little "heat stroke". I was dissappointed, I think I was the only swept walker today - but I didn't survive breast cancer, to die from heat stroke and because I got "swept" I'm able to tell you all about the adventure.
I can't wait to get on the scales tomorrow and check the weight loss - surely I had to lose a pound or two today. But maybe the lunch at Marie Calendars on the way home from the walk, countered the weight loss especially since I had the broccoli chicken fettucine. We were loading up on carbs because we read that you needed to carb up after walking to prevent the muscle stiffness. We all had the fettucine today!!!
Well, I'm going to get myself ready for bed and sleep really good tonight!!!!!
Later,
Lois -
Way to Go Lois.... You deserve chocolate cake for the next week. Would put in lots of emotions but dont know how to do them. So HUGS CHEERS.. Hugs Floss

I hope all you diet divas had a great weekend. I know a lot of you have been asking if I have any good WW recipes. Here is a favorite of my family (both my daughter and hubby like it alot and didn't realize it was a ww dinner).
Chicken and Broccoli Stir-Fry (Old Weight Watcher Recipe from Freedom Plan, 1996):
Saute 2 minced garlic cloves (0), 1 cup broccoli florets (Core) (0) and 1/4 cup each sliced carrot (Core) (0) and green onion (Core) (0) in 2 tsp. olive oil (Core) (2). Add 1 uncooked chicken breast (Core) (3) cut into 1 squares, 1 Tbsp. teriyaki sauce (0), 1 tsp. reduced sodium soy sauce (0), and 1/4 cup chicken broth (Core)(0).
Cover and cook 15 minutes or until done.
Serve with ½ cup cooked Brown Rice (Core)(2) OR ½ cup cooked White Rice (2).
NOTE:
If using Core Plan, entire meal is included in Core Plan (as long as you use brown rice).
If using Flex Plan, the points for this meal are 7
Hope you enjoy it. - Janet -
Hi Diva's - just had to share this e-mail with ya-
THE POWER OF PRAYER:
>>
>> After starting a new diet, I altered my drive to town
>> to avoid passing my favorite bakery. I accidentally
>> drove by the bakery this morning and there in the
>> window was a host of my favorite goodies.
>> I felt this was no accident, so I prayed, "Lord, it's
>> up to you . . . if you want me to have any of those
>> delicious goodies, create a parking place for me
>> directly in front of the bakery."
>>
>> And sure enough, He answered my prayer. On the eighth
>> time around the block, there it was! -
Hi Divas, Welcome Wendy and Sunflower.
Lois--you did terrific!! (And you deserved that fettucini!)
Diane--I liked your bakery story!! Needed a laugh today!!
Well, weighed in on Sat. a.m. and lost 2.8 lbs--BUT--I've been straying ever since! Got really bad news regarding a family friend, and have been numbing my pain with M&M's. I did better today, until about 1/2 an hour ago--the M&M's called (I know I shouldn't have them in the house--but I was bribing my 4 yr. old with them--"If you stay in bed all night, you can have some M&M's tomorrow". The bribery worked, she now stays in bed all night, and has even stopped asking for the M&M reward--which means there's lots left over for me to drown my sorrows in).
I will regroup--I know this is not making the problem any better--but it is hard to shed old coping mechanisms!
Hope you're all doing better than me right now!!
Janet--thanks for the recipe, I'm going to give it a try--it sounds really good and something everyone in the family will eat!
I think I'm sticking with the Points program, and I'll try to incorporate more Core foods. Just too many restrictions on the Core program--no bread or cold cuts from the deli=no sandwiches. I don't think I could live without ever having a sandwich for lunch!
Have a good week everyone. -
Lois - Very impressive, 7 miles, way to go. Hope your recovered ok.
Eileen - good job with the 2.8. I agree with you with staying with the Points program. CORE is too much of a "diet".
I had a surprisingly great week, lost 2.6. Not sure how. For some reason Dunkin Donuts was calling me all week and I visited. Not a good way to use my points. However, I was good for lunch and dinner. Now I'm at a respectable weight for my trip to San Diego. Hopefully I'll be able to stay in control there. I've been working real hard at this since I started Tamox and I've lost almost 6 lbs. in 6 weeks so I'm real excited.
Hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend and I'll check in when I get back from my trip. - Janet
