I am a WW lifetime member. I lost 30 lbs on the program and successfully kept it off for a year prior to being diagnosed. I gained back 20 lbs during chemo. My nutritionist at the cancer center was thrilled I was a WW member because they promote balanced, healthy eating. I didn't really follow the program during treatment. It was hard when the only thing I could keep down was baked potates with cheese or some other comfort food. I restarted the program in April, but didn't see any loss at all until almost June. It was very frustrating. I find that I have to exercise 5-7 days a week and eat the low end of my points. I am now within a pound of my goal weight, but it's been much slower going this time around. My onc said it can take a year to get back to where your body was, sometimes longer. The exercise I do is walking. I walk 3 miles/day. I am going to try the Core program once I get back to my goal weight, which is still 9 lbs over where I was when I was diagnosed. I want to try to lose a little cushion weight after getting to my goal, but I'll just be happy to be at my goal again.

Chris--I love the pictures of your kids. (How is everyone doing that???) Good to hear your nutritionist likes WW's. I consulted with one from Sloan who also highly recommended WW's. You're doing great--I was told the same thing about it taking a year or more to recover from chemo and radiation.

I had a weight loss this week, lost the 1.6 I had gained the previous week plus another .6 pounds. Janet you're right--slow but steady! Another phrase I like is "inch by inch it's a cinch!"

Patti--loved your quotes, they cracked me up. I have the same WATP's DVD that Marsha recommended--got it at Target too--really like them!

Marsha and Lois--congrats on the continued weight loss and on sticking with your exercise programs--you both inspire me!

My family took my husband and I out to dinner last night for my birthday--and I was so GOOD!! Ate only 1/3 of my meal and just tasted my sister's cheescake--I'm on a roll (no pun intended), and I've got to keep the momentum going.

A woman at my WW's meeting tried the CORE program last week and lost over 7 pounds! I'm trying to incorporate more CORE foods, but still recording points.

Got to run my kids are fighting like cats and dogs!!! Got to go play referee!

    Have a great week everyone.--Eileen

Eileen: Congratulations on a great loss this week. Love your quote. I've been trying to work in the CORE foods too but still find that plan too restricting. We'll see what happens this week.

Chris: I'm also a lifetime WW and have kept off about 20 lbs. for 2 1/2 years. I'd like to suggest to you something my WW leader suggested to me and it worked. One day a week, kick up your points for the day. I'm usually 22 points, she recommended 30 on Saturday. Apparently my body needs a little "kick" to get the metabolism working. It's worked for me. Thought you might like to try something like that. The CORE program is too restricting to me so I'm sticking with the Flex Points. ALso my leader told me it was going to take a while to lose the lbs. again (even without chemo, just rads) due to what our bodies have gone through.

To all you talented ladies, I love your little picture and icons next with your names. I'm lucky I can post here, let alone add a picture.

This coming weekend should be tough for me since it's Parents Weekend at my daughter's college. Nothing but eating out all weekend. I'll have to be really good the next four days. Hope all you divas had a great weekend. - Janet

    Hello Divas,

Eileen, you did real good at dinner - boy I'm impressed and lost weight this week - whoo hooo.

I think I gained a pound this week. I think the double scoop Baskin Robbins didn't help and I pigged out Friday. But I did walk 1 mile Sat and 2.5 Sunday. Going to try to some more walking in the evening this week if weather is cooler. Got to get that pound off!!!!!! Drink lots of water!!!!!

Janet, good luck with Parents weekend.

Marsha, I'll see you in a couple weeks. My brother was telling me about a place in Oceanside he goes to for breakfast. Said it's the best place in town for breakfast. I think it's "Beach Break" ???? It's on Coast Hwy. We could meet there for coffee and "low cal" breakfast. Although, you have your walk the next day and you're suppose to load up on carbs before you walk - good excuse to have something yummy!!!!! LOL Besides we have to celebrate our birthdays!!! I'm real good at finding an excuse to eat!!

Patti, how was your week? I'm looking at a candy jar on my desk that is filled with chocolate and I'm resisting (for the moment)!!!

    Got to get to work.

    Hi Divas
Thanks for the shout out Patti - I'm back. Took me a bit to get used to this new format, doesn't take much to confuse me these days. I will spend some time later catching up with this thread as well as some of the others. Just wanted to say hello.

    Patti,

For Memorial Day I made some marinated shrimp - really easy. It called for uncooked shrimp that you marinade and then grill, but all I had in the freezer was frozen tail on cooked shrimp. So I thawed it and marinated for several hours and served it chilled. It was great. I'll try and remember to bring it and send to you. It was marinated in tequila!!!!!!!! So you know it had to be good!!!!

Patti: I do have a shrimp/lobster gazpacho recipe. I think I posted it here. It's very easy to make. It can be both ww and regular. I originally had it at a dinner party as an appetizer. I'll try to think of more ideas but thought this was a good one. - Janet

    Hi,

OK, I have to put my 2 cents in. I have two great recipes and boy are they easy. You just have to bear with me because I never measure anything.

The low calorie one is Bruschetta.

You take about 5-6 italian or plum tomatoes, chop them into small cubes, add one red onion chopped finely, a big handful of basil chopped up. Add salt and pepper and about 1/4 cup of olive oil. Let it and it will get juicy.you can cut a french bread baquette(?)thinly and toast it. When the slices are all toasted you need to rub the slices with a clove of garlic. You could also add fresh veggies to dip to make it low fat.

The fattening one is delicious. Get a large round sour dough french bread. Cut off a cap on the bread and take out all of the insides. Make them bite size. Get a large round of brie and cut it up very crudely and put it aside. In a sauce pan, mix butter and garlic. Once the mixture is melted use a brush to coat the inside of the bread and all of the bite size pieces. Place all of the brie in the inside of the round bread and place little bite sizes pieces on a cookie sheet with the round brie stuffed bread. Place in oven at about 350 until bread is brown and brie is melted. You will then dip the bread into the brie. Boy is it yummy. People ask me to bring this all the time.

I hope these directions are clear. If you have any questions just email.

    Good luck.

    Patti,

Here's the recipe for the marinated shrimp. As I told you, all I had was frozen tail on shrimp so I just marinated it and served it chilled. But you'll also note that I said it had tequila in it, I like to put my own little twist on things so I sub'd tequila for the oj and of course omitted the bell pepper and added some chopped cilantro. My recipe was also downsized to serve 6 as appetizers.

But here is the recipe as written:

Recipe Box: It's Shrimp On The Barbie

    September 15, 2004

Sit right back and you'll hear a tale... a tale about a simple-to-prepare succulent "grilled" shrimp recipe! There's no need to fire up the grill. Your shrimp will only taste like they've been grilled. We are saving you the fuss and muss by suggesting you broil these decadent kebabs. Marinated in a citrusy-sweet glaze with just the right amount of zest from jalapeños, these flavorful -- not to mention protein-packed -- crustaceans are a surefire winner.

For a different taste, you can substitute chicken or pork for the shrimp.

    Shrimp Kebabs with Jalapeño-Lime Marinade

4 lbs. large shrimp, peeled, deveined, and butterflied
1 cup thawed orange juice concentrate, undiluted
    2 tsp. grated lime rind
    1/2 cup fresh lime juice
    1/2 cup honey
    4 tsp. ground cumin
    1/2 tsp. salt
    6 garlic cloves, minced
    4 jalapeños, seeded and chopped
4 red bell peppers, cut into 1-inch cubes
    Lime wedges (optional)
    Cooking spray

Combine first nine ingredients in a large zip-top plastic bag; seal and marinate in refrigerator 30 minutes.

Remove shrimp from bag, reserving marinade. Thread the shrimp, bell pepper cubes, and lime wedges (if desired) onto 12 skewers.

Prepare grill or broiler. Place skewers on grill rack or broiler pan coated with cooking spray; cook four minutes on each side or until shrimp are done, basting frequently with the marinade.

Note: You can substitute three pounds of skinned, boned chicken breast or pork tenderloin, cut into 1-inch cubes for the shrimp if prefered.

Makes 12 servings (serving size: 1 kebab). Nutritional values per serving: 217 calories (10 percent from fat), 2.4g fat (0.4g sat, 0.4g mono and 0.9g poly), 24.2g protein, 25.1g carbohydrate, 0.7g fiber, 172mg cholesterol, 3.7mg iron, 269mg sodium and 80mg calcium.

Patti: Congrats on the 1 lb. FYI - My WW leader says that ANY 15 minutes of any activity (excluding eating) counts as 1 mile of exercise. So fall cleaning definitely counts. I lost my vacation weight gain this week (1.2 lbs.) Have a great weekend. - Janet

Patti, congrats on the 1 lb. loss!!!!! You did better than me, I'm back to the "two-step". I did really bad this week. I do good during the day, then about 4:00 I get really hungry. I'll have some fruit, but by the time I get home - wow look out!!!!! I'm still on the steroids and I guess I'm just going to blame it on them, because I wasn't like this before I started on them. Of course, I had my weak moments but it wasn't like this!!!! House cleaning is good exercise, unfortunately for me, I don't clean house!!!! I leave that to the cleaning lady. LOL But I do the fall and spring cleaning, which I haven't done. Did some last weekend. I was also planning on some house upgrading when I got BC - I had new carpet, hardwood flooring and painting in the plans. I'm going to wait until after the holidays now to start my upgrading.

Janet, congrats on your weight loss! My scale doesn't measure in ounces. I think I should get a new scale. Maybe I didn't gain 2 pounds this week, maybe it was only 1.5!!!

Hey Diva's....How is everyone doing this week? I have had an awful day..I fell down my stairs this morning( Twinkle toes at it again )I am in lots of pain tonight..I hit my head and every inch of my back and arms while I managed to hit every single stair on the fall down..ARGH!!! I am starting to feel sore....Oh well keeping my fingers crossed ...

Lois,Janet and Judy thanks for the recipes...I made all three !!They were a big hit at the party...

Lois I am going to make the shrimp dish for dinner tomorrow night! I love shrimp and that was a great recipe!! ...You are doing well Lois..The steroids bloat us up..I had such a hard time when I was taking them..I give you lots of credit..You are doing great!! We all have slip ups..I know that I do and I am not on Steroids.. You are doing just fine!!!

I have to work extra hard at this weight loss..Fall is always hard and I have a tendancy to eat more..I have been doing better since I added breakfast to my routine..I was never much of a breakfast person..I find that it helps...Oh well..........I have to weigh in this week....Wish me luck! I was so bad yesterday....xoxo,Patti

Divas!! I'm back!!! And hopefully to stay. I had thought I would be regularly working out, but then a few weeks went by with something coming up... meetings after school, dr. appts, a toe infection then a bad cold. Finally got back to the pool yesterday afternoon and discovered they are now open for my favorite swim hours, ie 5 a.m.!!!! I know that sounds fanatical, but somehow I can get my arse out of bed to swim and it is ever so much harder to do it after working all day. I just came from there, have had my oatmeal for breakfast and am ready to face the day.

Now that I have my fave swimming back, I'm going to quit Curves. I just feel like I get 100% more of a workout from a half hour swim than 3 circuits of Curves and the swimming is free for me. I have been eating healthy, other than my one big vice, a big bowl of ice cream as I'm watching my trash TV shows at night. So these chubby pounds BETTER start coming off!

All of you that are posting your losses, however small they may be, I am soooooo envious, you are inspirational... and of course, I LOVE how human you all are by giving in to chocolate or whatever. I hope to be posting my own very soon!

Hilde, welcome back - glad to have you here. Yep, we are human and you'll see alot of loss of will power especially with me.

Patti, so glad you enjoyed the recipe. I'm going to have to try it as the recipe was written, but I did love how it turned out with my twist!!! I'm so sorry about your fall, been there done that myself. You will be sore, you might want to try doing some stretches for those sore parts. I also have a tendency to eat more in the fall, must be cool weather and the food gives you cozy comfort!!!!!

I walked Sunday (didn't walk all week), walked Monday and going to walk again tonight. I'm being weaned off the steriods and I am feeling much better - no binging!!!!!!

I freaked out Sunday when I weighed myself. I knew that on Thursday I had gained my 2 pounds back. For some stupid reason I decided to weigh myself after my walk thinking maybe I could have lost a pound since Thursday. NOT - I had gained 12 pounds!!!!!!!!!! So I started freaking out - thinking no way - got back on - yep 12 pounds!!! What the he!!????? Sudden depression sets in. Depressed all day, trying to figure out what happened. So later that night, I get back on - thinking maybe the scale was acting up - no still 12 pounds. Then it hit me - the cleaning lady was here Saturday - she must have cleaned the scale and when she did she turned the adj. dial!!!!!!! Sure enough that's what happened. I went to the Dr. Monday and weighed and then weighed when I got home and reset the scale. Boy was I relieved!!!!!! I'm going to go buy a new scale, one that doesn't have the adj dial on top and one that weighs me in ounces.

I'm planning on meeting Marsha Saturday - where are you Marsha???? I'll be bringing my Mom back home with me to stay the week, that means we'll be going out to dinner a few times while she's here. Plus my birthday is Tuesday, I HAVE to have some chocolate cake or raspberry cheesecake I'll just have to compensate by walking more

Lois: I'm glad it was just the scale that was off. I would have been going crazy too. Just so you know, I weigh in at Weight Watchers on an electronic scale that's why I know my gains and losses so precisely.(It is nice getting a .2 lb. loss sometimes I have to admit.) Coming off the steroids should help you. I still remember about 10 years ago when my daughter was taking steroids. She has always been a picky eater, then the steroids. She ate everything!! Keep up the good work with the walking. Even without losing you will definitely be toning. I just got back from walking 2 1/2 miles. Enjoy your birthday, definitely have the raspberry cheesecake, you deserve it. - Janet

    Hellooooooooo, Divas,
It's been a tough couple of weeks for me. I had my one-year scans last week and didn't find out the results until today. Consequently, I've been very demotivated and eating way too many calories. I even missed a couple of days of exercise...the first days I've missed since I started my program in June.

BUT...I'm now back on track. My scans were all clear. Thank you, God. I do have osteoporosis, but I will start Fosamax on Saturday to begin reversing that. I plan to see Lois on Saturday and to do the Komen walk on Sunday. Monday, I have movers coming because I have to heat treat my garage for termites and the garage has to be empty. Tuesday, the pest people come. Wednesday, the movers will come to move stuff back into the garage and Saturday, my parents arrive for a week's visit so I have to clean house and do grocery shopping before then. As a result, I probably will be out of touch for another couple of weeks.

So...I hope you all have terrific weight losses while I'm gone and no problems. I'll be praying for Kimmy and Niki and Marissa. Blessings, ladies. See you in a couple of weeks.

    Hello Patti & others,
I found out in June that I had Diabeties Type 2 and was (still am) overweight. I went on the internet and found a web site called The Diabetic Diet.com It is fantastic! I have been on it since June and so far have lost 20 lbs on it. I feel much better. I am doing light exercise since I had breast surgery last month. I start radiation next week for 7 weeks so I don't know how I will feel. I hope to be able to stay on this diet. I forgot how much it cost to sign up but it's worth it. It's not just for diabetics. Answer all the questions and "they" figure out the diet for you. Right now, I am on about 1100 cal. eating 5 times a week. Love all the receipies I've had so far. Please give it a try and let me know what you think. Good luck to you all and congratulations on your weight loss.
    Lots of Hugs,

    Hello Divas,

I met Marsha with morning for "breakfast" - I don't think we overdid it, we still had food left on our plates, of course, they do give you tons of food!!! It was nice to finally meet her and we are planning to do it again and I hope often.

I need to get back on track with my diet, but with my Mom here this week, it might be kinda tough. But I will get some walking in so hopefully that will help compensate for the extra indulgences.

I hope everyone is doing well and losing!!!!

    Dear Kay from Boston,

Thanks for the web site. That looks like a really good way to balance your diet.

    All you other Divas,

I hope you are having a great weekend. I did the Komen 5K walk today. It took about 1-1/2 hours because there were 15,000 walkers. It was so crowded that you couldn't really walk very fast...kind of like the freeway at rush hour. They gave all of the survivors roses and strings of beads. The beads promptly faded onto my neck when I got sweaty while walking. I thought I had gotten sunburned, but when I got out of the shower, the pink had disappeared down the drain.

Lois and I had a good time at the Beach Break Cafe. It was really busy and the server kept trying to get us to eat quickly and leave so that she could seat some more guests at our table!!! Eventually, we had to leave and we walked down to a doughnut shop to have a place to keep visiting. We were such good divas though. At the doughnut shop, we just had bottled water! Of course, we'd just had a 15-point breakfast...

    Have a good week, everyone!

    Marsha,

Congrats on the walk!!! I hope it wasn't too hot, I know it's been very warm here the last two days. I can't imagine what it's like to walk surrounded by 15,000 people!!! So breakfast was 15 points, that's alot isn't it??? Well, I did well at dinner just some grilled chicken and 1/2 cup of rice and some veggies, fruit for dessert! Pretty much the same today and walked 2 miles before going to the commissary this morning. I made a veggie pizza for dinner tonight. My mom bought a pecan pie at the commissary and she cut me a piece after lunch (I didn't know she was going to do that) so I had to eat it - right??? My only bad for today.

I have to admit that I have not been too good myself. I have good days and bad days. I'm now completely off the steriods so I can't use that as my excuse. I'm hoping to be doing better, I think that maybe I'm just tired of eating "healthy". Janet, I need that whack on the head too!!!!!!

I love the quote, so true. My torturous scale told me I gained 3 pounds this morning - how cruel is that???????

Patti & Lois: We all seem to need a wack. I've been trying WW CORE program this week. I did good the beginning of the week but then the past two days I found myself craving lots of foods (and giving in to the cravings). I think I'm going back to the old Points program. That way I could have a cookie or some ice cream if I wanted and not feel guilty or deprived.

One thing I learned at WW is that if you are having trouble sticking to program, try to take one part of the program (i.e., drinking the water, eating the foods, weighing/measuring, etc.) and make sure you do that every day. The rest will come. Also remember to take it one day at a time. Also Patti the actual weekly meetings do really help to keep you focused and gives great support and ideas.

Also I'd never wack you ladies, you're my divas. Remember we are in this together. Good luck this week. - Janet
