Janet, Congratulations!!! Keep up the good work. I know it will be tough with Tamoxifen, but I know you can do it. Glad you liked the poem. I loved it, too. I think I am going to print it on a nice piece of paper and "frame" it for my fridge. Maybe it will keep my hands off those popsicles...lol.
Hilde, sorry you are having to go back to work so early. I never understood why Texas schools started so early especially since they have such miserably hot weather. I would rather start a little later and finish up a little later in June when it's not boiling. -
Hey Ladies - just wanted to pop in and say Hi. I needed a little inspiration - my friend's wedding is this Sat. and I really neeeed to be good so I can wear my dress. Weddings are really a very hard emotional thing for me..so I will reward myself with food as I am the designated driver for the evening. As for now, I want more then anything to drown my sorrows in an ice cream sundae, but instead I go out walking when I feel weak.
What has been working for me is I just simply don't bring it into the house. I know this is hard for those of you with families. Also when I found I was going for food and wasn't hungry, just bored, I got on the floor and did some crunches and leg lifts while I watched TV. The feeling past and hopefully something got toned.
Well that's how I have been trying to do things.
Hey I just wanted to share the wonderfully sensative thing my Aunt said to me the other day....she told me a friend of hers is on Tomaxifen and said "Yup soon as she started taking it she just blew right up. Don't even recognize her" Thanks Aunt Dee luv ya too!
I have a family gathering in Sept and I WILL be toned and at my target weight for sure.

Sounds like you're back in control!!!! Yep, I agree about the don't bring it home. I sometimes get weak when I'm grocery shopping and buy something indulgent, then I think I better eat this all up so I won't be tempted. I can't seem to just treat myself every now and then lately.
I'm sure you'll look wonderful for the wedding and your family gathering!!! Keep up the good work and positive attitude!!!!
I know about how in-sensitive family can be. After I was dx'd, my mom called me at work one day, to tell me she heard on the news that being overweight can be a factor in breast cancer. I was silent for a moment - thinking to myself - thanks Mom - then I said "Oh well, too late now!!!" (I'm already fat and I already have breast cancer!)

I laughed at what you said about buying something and eating it all up. I do the same...I feel if I eat it quicklly - the calories won't count as much. Thanks for all the kind words...I needed a pick me up today!

You guys are great! Every day you are working to lose the pounds. Some days you succeed and some days you don't, but you keep trying and don't give up. That makes you heroes.
Ignore the downer people. We all have them in our lives...and they are often our mothers...LOL. I think that's why I always loved the "Cathy" comic strip.
I did a six-mile walk today and six popsicles. Hmmm...is that a balanced diet? LOL. -

It's funny you should talk about removing your rubber boobs . . . I had my onc appt. Tues and knowing that I get weighed there, I weighed myself in the morning - totally naked - then weighed myself dressed (with boob in pocket) and I was 3 lbs heavier. I instantly had the thought that after I took my shoes off at oncs, I would also remove my boob as well before I got weighed!!!!! Ben and Jerry also live here in Calif., they're not allowed at my house.
I have some good news to report this morning . . .
drum roll . . . I weighed this morning and the 2 lbs. I gained over July 4th were gone this morning!!!! During the last month, I managed to lose 1 only to gain it back - I did this a few times. So now they are both gone and I feel motivated again to stay at this loss and move on to losing more. I have the SF 3-day in just 8 weeks and I really would like to be at least 10 lbs thinner by then. So for me I think I just have to get back to the exercising routine 4 x's a week instead of "nada" like I have been for the last month!!!!!
Marsha, you go girl with that walking!!!! (and popsicles) It's great that you walk 6 miles!!!!! (especially in this heat)

I remember after I got the pathology report from my bilateral mastectomy, I had to convert the grams to ounces because I wanted to see how much weight I lost just from the removal of my breasts!

Hi Ladies,
This was not the week to start WW's! With the stress of the bone scan, and then celebrating the good result--I used all my flex points within 4 days!
I invited Ben and Jerry over for a little post-scan celebration (Do they sell Ben & Jerry's ice cream outside of the Northeast??).
Anyway, in addition to excess celebrating, I got fitted for a prosthesis yesterday, and wound up having to get one for the side that still has the implant as well. (It did not come out well, and the shape was so unnatural that it could not be matched--so I've got a "shell" prosthesis over it).
The kicker is that these two fake breasts weigh at least 5 pounds combined--so I'm going to weigh in on Sat with a huge weight gain! I was joking with my husband that while some women like to remove their shoes before getting on the scale, I could just whip out my 2 prosthesis!! That might be good for a few laughs :-)
You are all inspiring me to get back on track--now that I can shed my blanket of fear!

Hi Divas. Glad you are all losing a little weight. i definately am feeling better since being sprung from the hospital but some of the 5 Lbs came back.
I am now banned from the Gym for 2 weeks so will have a hard time losing any. Not even a few mins on the treadmill. The good news is i had my nipple recon done so its for a good cause. Meanwhile i will try to stay away from the fridge and put the fruit bowl out instead..... Have a great week. Hugs Floss -
Welcome home Floss--glad you are recovering well, be sure to give yourself some TLC for awhile.
Had my second weigh-in yesterday. Even with the addition of my 2 prosthetics I lost 1.6 pounds! I guess my mid-week crisis wasn't enough to counteract the other days when I tried to eat well and walk more.
Went to a block party yesterday afternoon (in the drizzle thanks to Charlie). I ate so light in the morning so that I would have plenty of points to eat and I even saved up some points for desert. Passed on the ice cream, cookies and cup cakes, but did indulge in a piece of home made crumb cake that one of my friends had made. I was shocked when I looked it up this morning and found that that little square of crumb cake was 8 points!!!
I'm so impressed by the spirit of you ladies here. You don't give up, even if you have a bad day, and I think that is really the key to success. I didn't want to go get weighed yesterday, because of the off days I had, and then the added weight of the prosthetics, but I thought of all of you here and I went--so thanks for being here and inspiring me!

Raven, What a great weigh-in!!! Congratulations!!! The Weight Watchers have a saying, "Write it before you bite it" which means find out the points before you eat something. But, luckily, you had lots of points to spare for that crumb cake. I'm so glad you enjoyed yourself at the get-together and that you didn't miss your weigh-in.
My weigh-in went great this morning. I'm still losing at a steady pace of 2-3 pounds a week. Next year at this time, I should reach goal!!! LOL.
Floss, so sorry to hear about your setback, but I'm glad that you are home and healing. I hope that you feel better very soon. -

Hi Ladies
I made it through my friend Jeans wedding. My tummy flattened out and I was able to wear my long black dress with the long slit. Weddings are very hard for me as it is a HUGE reminder that my parents are both gone, I dont have anyone in my life, I am not a great dancer as my equilibrium is off, yadda, yadda but I did make the best of it and socialized with those that I knew and even some that I didnt.
Everyone was so kind. Many saw me right after surgery or during chemo, so to see me all dressed up with my new boobs is a drastic difference for them. They had a lot of kind words which really helped to pick up my spirits.
Jean did a really sweet thing too. The Friday before her wedding the girls went to go get their nails done and while we were there, she handed pick BC ribbon applicatiques. We wore them on our ankles on her wedding day in honor of me! I was so touched.
I have had house guests since Friday so the food has been abundant. To make matters worse my neighbor invited me over for a Thanksgiving feast in Aug of course I said yes, right down to the ice cream Sundae.
Starting tomorrow its back on the wagon. I had my fun, hopefully I didnt do too much damage. I refuse to weigh myself until Thursday.

My shorts feel at little loose today!! Guess it's working--will find out for sure on Saturday.

Well, looks like I'm back on the exercise track. Made arrangements with a gal to walk Tues, Weds & Thurs for 1 1/2 hrs and longer on Sundays. We will meet tonight, she's walking in the LA 3-Day and needed a training partner. I think she might be a little more advanced than me but that's ok - it'll just push me to catch up. I can see the pounds falling off now!!!! Whoohoo!

Good morning ladies. Well I stayed the same this week but it's still 3.2 lbs. in 3 weeks so I can't complain. Tooooo many parties. This week will be tough. Today's my 25th anni., daughter's 20th birthday tomorrow, and taking her back to college on Sunday. Next Tuesday's weigh-in should be fun. I'll have to "try" really hard this week. I have been enjoying some awesome salads this week.............I have been adding fruit(strawberries or blueberries and a tadd bit of shredded coconut and a few walnuts( and a few dried cranberries to my salads..Awesome............ I use a little balsamic vinegar and olive oil dressing for this salad...Yum!!

Well, I went for the walk. My walking partner arrived a little late so we only walked for an hour 2.3 miles. Where we walked was uphill, downhill and uphill again. Very undulating - getting me in practice for SF. They are having an ELEVEN MILE (count them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, "11") walk on the 28th - I'm going! Farthest I've walked is 3.5 and that was a few months ago. Hope I make it!! or should I say hope my feet make it.
Today's my weigh in, one of those pesky pounds came back. I'll probably go back and forth with that one for a bit and then maybe I'll get past it and shed a few more now that I'm back to walking.

Patti: Thanks for the congrats!! It definitely is hard to believe 25 yrs. Here's a great recipe I got from a relative. It's delicious and easy to make. I checked with my WW leader and she says it would only be 2 points per cup on WW. (I've never actually made it but I'm planning to):
Gazpacho with lobster and shrimp
1 large garlic clove
kosher salt and ground black pepper
1 medium red onion, diced
2 medium red peppers, diced
4-5 kirby cucumbers with seeds, diced
3 lbs tomatoes, diced
1-(2) jalapeno pepper seeded and minced
1 qt bottles tomato juice
juice of 1 lemon
2 chilled lobster tails
8 chilled cooked shrimp
chopped chives
smash garlic clove with flat of heavy knife, cover with salt and let sit 5 minutes. Work into a paste by alternately chopping and mashing. In a large bowl, combine garlic, onion, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes, tomato and lemon juice. Stir. Season to taste. Allow to sit for 2 hours. To serve, slice lobster and shrimp into medallions, add to top of bowl of soup, sprinkle with chives(I just mixed it all together, it was easier...)

Hey Diva's - this is short but sweet as the auditors will be knockin at my door any min now.
My friend heard the following:
If you eat fat free dressing with a salad - the benefits of the nutrients do not get absorbed as well as if you had some fat with your salad(i.e dressing, cheese, nuts) So, if this is true-do we get the green light for dressing???? I always put in nuts or cheese or something to make the lettuce more enjoyable anyway.
Perhaps at the the next WW meeting one of you Divas can pose the question.
It sounds like wishful thinking-huh!

Diane: I've been a WW member for over 6 years now. My leader does not recommend using fat free dressings since apparently the extra sugar they put in for taste counteracts the dressing being fat free (same goes for peanut butter). Also she indicated it is not good to cut fats out of your diet. Fats are needed to help with digestion. She recommends dressing on the side, dip the fork in the the dressing first them take some salad. Apparently this method helps to hit the taste buds just the right away so you don't realize you are using less dressing. It works for me.
If you have any other WW questions, feel free to ask. I've been going to WW for so long I could probably do a meeting. - Janet -
Thanks Janet - your response makes me feel better about my dressing choices and I know my friend will be happy to hear about it too! I will do the fork thing-especially when I am eating out. It's great that you have followed the program for so long-it's really a life style change - when you eat good you feel good.

Hello Divas got a big challenge weight wise and need all yours help. As you know i have been on the G.I.diet since May and have lost 25lbs. I go to the gym daily and do treadmill and some weights but have really bad arthritis everywhere, i wear 2 knee braces so cant run.
Heres the problem i have 2 large abdominal hernias so any kind of situps etc are out of question. I was in to see surgeon last week but because of my history with infected expander this year. on antibiotics for 6 mths he isnt willing to use Mesh to repair(scared i will reject it and become infected) this would be a disaster. He put it to me that if i can lose 25lbs in 12 weeks he will go ahead and try and repair without Mesh.
Most of my weight is on my belly. no where else. As I said its a huge challenge. So i signerd up at weight watchers and will see if i can do it.

Floss,I just finished chemo so I'm starting back on the weight watchers program.I've done it before so I hope it works again.My belly is my biggest problem too.I lost 20 pounds between finding out I had bc & now.I'm sure most of it was stress.I walk the mall everyday for an hr(4 miles)but I need to lose 30 pounds.Start rads next week.I love food so eating less is hard.Good luck everyone on there weight!!

Hey, Floss, You might try talking to a personal trainer. The really good ones will have great ideas on how to work different muscle groups while taking into consideration any physical limitations. Twenty-five pounds in twelve weeks is at the upper end of healthy weight loss. Good luck with your program and with getting those repairs done so that you can exercise without so many limitations.
Well, I did nine miles this morning of WATP with 1-pound weights. I'm getting prepared for that 8-1/2 point slice of pizza that I am planning to have for lunch...lol.
Patti, I'm still not sleeping well. I think I might break out the Benedryl and see if that would help. Thanks for the sleep vibes. I need them. Have fun with your company this weekend.
Janet, I'll be curious to see your take on whatever this new program is that WW's is introducing on Sunday. I hope it doesn't change very much. I like the current program. Hope you had a happy anniversary celebration.

Hi Divas--been a busy week with the kids. But it felt soooo good to be running errands and doing more around the house. I'm actually starting to feel "normal" again.
Weighed in this morning--lost 1.8 pounds for a total of 3.4. Slow but steady. I refuse to give up this time, even if I have a bad day or week!
Janet--congrats on your anniversary. Time goes by so fast! (My DH and I just celebrated 18 yrs. in May). Hope you did something special to celebrate. Happy Birthday to your daughter too. Are both your girls in college, or is one still in high school? Please do try to come in December. Would love to meet you.
Lois and Marsha--I'm so proud of how much you both are walking. That's awesome. Lois I know you can do the 11 miles! Marsha you have inspired me to go do my WATP's tape!
I'm not sleeping well either Marsha--but I did notice on the days this week that I went out for a walk I did sleep a little better. My 4-yr.-old has been waking up every night. Think this is a delayed reaction to not seeing me for nearly 2 weeks. But hopefully this phase will pass soon. Hope we both can catch some zzzz's.
Patti--great to have you back. Maybe I should start banking points now for December!!!
Diane--thanks for mentioning the salad dressing. I just started using the fat free variety, but now I'm going to give Janet's fork method a try.
Floss--good luck with your hernias. I'm sorry you have to suffer with that. I don't really know any quick weight loss tips, but I think a personal trainer was a good suggestion.
