Not only is it HIGHLY annoying to have to keep signing in, I can't find anyplace on the home page that says "log in." And if I'm not logged in, whatever topic I click goes to the first page, not the last, and THEN I'm directed to log in, then lather, rinse, repeat, all in slow motion. Are you trying to thin the herd by discouraging members from participating? Utter garbage.
-
Not friendly at all. Too white, font too small. Gives a cold vibe.
Trying to logout and can't figure it out. Wasting too much time on simple things like that. Not a good selling point.
-
The "Site Map" link that is at the bottom of the "community pages" returns a 404.
And, yes, the site is currently very slow. I'm hopeful that will speed up as the developers get things tuned.
-
I agree the presentation feels "cold" and clinical. Also, I cannot see all of the posts written as the legend on the left takes up too much space, so it compresses the data I truly want to see.
-
Agree, new version is cold, slow, grey text with small font less than user friendly, changed from direct link to my favorites to now a two-step process. I had to edit my preferences because new default was to not show peoples avatar. Lastly, my email setting was set to public and there is no way to change the public email setting. I think everyone should check their personal setting information. If you cannot change email from public to private, then make up an email address as that is doable and protects your privacy.
-
Trying to view the previous page on a thread leads to an error page.
I agree that the new format is not user-friendly. I find myself not coming on BCO as much because the small font gives me a headache, and it's awkward to keep making the screen larger with fingers on a smart phone. I hope this is a work in progress rather than the final format.

Can't figure out how to read all of these comments, but I want to say that I agree with all of the negative ones that I can read - especially Alice Bastable's above! Also, I am not going to become some sort of computer expert just so I can send "meaningful" suggestions to your tech people about how to make this better. I'm not a tech person, I am a person with breast cancer looking to connect up with others in my situation. You've just made that 100 times harder than it was before.

OMG, just getting in to be able to post....
Yet again, when I clicked from this thread to sign in and reply, as soon as I signed in, I was back on the home page. Then I had to click to get to Active Threads, then I clicked on this thread and then twice I got Application Errors and had to go back and try again. Finally I am here and able to post, 6 minutes later.
I am now signed on here on my PC, which visually is a bit of an improvement vs. my iPad, at least in terms of what I can see on a single page. On my iPad I couldn't see the column indicating who started a thread; on my PC, I can. Considering that the explanation for this revamping of the site includes this statement:
"Many of you use your mobile devices to access information while at the doctor's office or from anywhere you may be. The new site design now offers a much better experience by showing you the full breadth and depth of our educational and support resources."
it seems to be inconsistent that the site is more difficult to see/navigate on my iPad. I also just noticed that when I pasted the above quote from the BCO information pages, although I did not highlight the following type, the paste included this statement:
"This information is provided by Breastcancer.org.
Donate to support free resources and programming for people affected by breast cancer." (I have removed the links associated with "Breastcancer.org" and "Donate").Seriously? I absolutely hate when websites do this and I avoid using those sites for references. This means that I will no longer be including any quotes from any BCO pages in my posts here.
And what is with the the long submit button on the right side of the entire post when I view a Preview? On my PC, it appears as a long grey rectangle. On my iPad, it's a stretched out ugly grey oval that takes up a lot of space on the page. Seriously, who came up with this? Who thinks it looks attractive and appealing?
Looking at the site, I can't help but wonder if BCO got a discount for a design with no color and no graphics. It is kind of astonishing, when you think about it, that the site is so slow without having any intensive graphics. It takes talent to achieve that, I think.
Lastly (for now), with all these useless and ugly changes, one thing not fixed is the indent capability. I tried to indent the two italicized quotes - the indent function hasn't worked on this site since the last update, I think - and guess what? It still doesn't work.

Visually impaired individuals will have a difficult time reading text on stark white backgrounds. Please redesign to make pages more ADA compliant.

A couple of things:
One, I really don't like the new welcome page at all. The giant welcome and picture seems very commercial. One thing that impressed me on my first visit to your site was the concise menu of resources. Unlike other pages I saw, I loved being able to easily self navigate to inform myself. Being asked to immediately "tell me about myself" would have been a turn off. Can we get a page for registered users that doesn't look like a pharmacy company welcome page?
Two, I primarily use my 2021 iPad Pro's Safari app. Prior to the update, it was a seamless user experience. Now it's a scrolling around mess. The main page seems even more giant than the desktop, and I have to scroll all over the place to see the links to content. The three line menu link in the top right corner is tiny, and it doesn't seem like it has as many options.
Three, the forum side bar where I can select "active" topics is missing. By hunting around, I've found ways to access that, but it's cumbersome.
Four, I've filled out my profile, but I still get a message that you don't know enough about me to provide good recommendations. I think that if there is a learning algorithm that results in improved results as we use the site, that is good, but the message I have implies I've not filled in enough blanks.
Five, When I set up my profile, the birthdate would not register the correct date. I had to select the day after my birthdate to get it to display my actual birthdate.
Six, It's been a day, but it seems like there was at least one profile question that just didn't work. The drop down didn't have an option for something that would have been a common response.
Last, the site latency is now very pronounced. Where I used to fly through from page to page, the delays are almost enough that I'd just leave the site if I didn't know there was good content coming.
I know that these issues will all be resolved in time. But this rollout was not as seamless as I'd have expected. You have the BEST content I've found. Let's keep it easy to navigate, and make sure that those who use tablets and smartphone have a good experience. So many of us will be here during doctor appointments or other times of waiting. It's important to make sure that desktop experience doesn't override accessibility to all.

Mods - Thank you to magiclight for bringing up the public email issue. I clicked a few usernames and didn't find any email addresses visible.
1) Please enable changing the setting from Public to Private.
2) Set EVERYONE's setting to Private.
3) Please add an email notification to the current and new email addresses when the address is changed. That didn't happen when I changed mine. I checked my junk folders. There was an option to verify my email address before changing my avatar at least.
-
magiclight, you're right.
CHECK YOUR SETTINGS, everyone.
It appears that all information including our email addresses have been set to be public. And there is no way to change it. I tried inputting a fake email address but I suspect that since I won't be able to verify the address (seeing as it's fake), I may be shut out of the site as soon as I sign out, and won't be able to sign in again.
My "public" private info was wrong anyway. The one thing that I'd checked off (yes, I've had genetic testing) was recorded as a "No".
Not only is the site screwed up for posting and viewing, but they are violating our privacy too??
-
It took me a while to find out how to log on and that is required every time I visit even if it is only 10 minutes. Of course I kept being sent to the DONATE page. It is no longer worth it to try to find what I am looking for.
I think BCO should just have shut down until they got it right and maybe should still do that to avoid losing "customers". I would rather being told to come back in a few days than to keep trying to deal with this nightmare. Hopefully the donated funds weren't paid to a website designer.
-
I imagine many reports will be sent in about a website sharing our personal information including email addresses publicly. This is not good.
-
I've clicked on user names and the email is actual NOT public (displayed), but that's not what my profile page says. That's very concerning. The last thing I want is a bunch of emails from drug companies who scrape this website.
This is something that needs to change immediately. Also, fields like my name, I have no option to input that without it being public.
Another thing, my Avatar is blank on the new profile page, but it still shows up in posts. and my signature is still from the old profile. I didn't update it, and it all still looks the same as it did on Monday.
-
I will second virtually all of the feedback that’s been posted. True, my email addy does not appear to be publicly displayed but settings do list it as public and it can’t be changed. Genetic testing is listed as No, so I tried to change it but could not. What happened to the edit function ?
I only use my iPad and don’t feel these changes did anything to improve the experience for mobile device users. The basic white background and small font is stark, cold, and very dated looking. Just scratching my head…
-
I have had access denied on several occasions. WTF??!! Reading a long posts of things I WANT to read is gong to burn out my retinas. The format now looks like a computer savvy 12-year old set up the webpage for his parents. I agree that the DONATE button seems to be the most visible.
-
Like Beesie, my online name also has capital letters. Why don't they show up? I view this site almost exclusively on my PC. When I am "sitting at a doctor's office" (interesting assumption about breast cancer patients) or elsewhere out of the house, I do not spend much time on my device at all. I try not to, but only check for anything that is urgent or an emergency for the most part, unless I get real bored. I look at this site on my PC in the morning when I am doing my usual coffee and news read, I look at it on my PC when I take "work from home green tea breaks", and I look at it on my PC sometimes in the evening just to see what's there before I go to bed.
I have osteoarthritis and neuropathy in my hands and fingers and do as little typing as possible on a small device. I like my PC and full keyboard. It all works better with my aging and drug affected eyes, brain, and hands and fingers. It's also a lot better for drug induced back pain and general posture health. These changes are not friendly to anyone much less elderly, disabled, or those who are affected by drug side effects. Did these "web designers" ever take in the possibility that some of us just don't feel all that good a lot of the time? Do they know who the "target audience" of this site is? It seems like a beginning web design class could have come up with something better. It also looks like they created more space for ads and donation requests to the detriment of user friendliness to those who need this site the most.
Perhaps I missed it, but I also don't recall any prior notice being given that this big change was coming. It's nice to let people know of coming change in advance if possible. Whatever made anyone think it needed to be changed in the first place? If it ain't broke, don't fix it - especially if the "fix" is just going to be even more broke!
Please switch back to the old system and get a new design group if you really think you need to change it.
-
Definitely not iPad friendly!!! Got the access denied message several times trying to post. This new rollout should never have been done without extensive testing on ALL devices. And has no become one of the most frustrating websites I’ve ever had to use.
-
Moderators please address the email issue quickly. I am not pleased at all with a "public" status which even though it isn't showing on my tagline, that has to make it available for companies to data mine. A big fat raspberry on this whole thing. To echo another poster it looks like someone's high school project. I know that is harsh but it is honest.
-
rah,
You’re not being harsh as it does indeed look like a very basic school project. Where the heck is the log in button? I need it frequently since I keep getting logged out!
-
Got it figured out. We can't log in on the community home page, we have to slog all the way back to the main site home page to do that. After logging in, I tried to change the setting for email to make it private. Nope. Tried to change my user name to capitalize it, and hit SAVE CHANGES button. Nope. Tried to enter my real name in the appropriate area, and hit save. Nope. Mods, how did you ruin a site in just a few hours, but you can't fix any of the problems? I got on using my PC and it looks exactly the same as on my phone, but due to eyesight problems, I have to lean forward and squint, so I'm not doing that unless my phone's in the shop. Used to be, I'd look forward to getting on here, one click on an app and I was ready to go, and I could do it several times a day since my login was saved. I found myself dreading it today, knowing I have to go through many more steps to be able to feel a part of the community, and too cranky and disgruntled once I'm here to want to look for other topics. This "new and improved" should be used across the internet as a glaring example of what NOT to do.
-
This is horrible. Takes forever to load. This is the first time I could actually access the site and it took 20 minutes and constant refreshing. I don't understand the purpose of listing 4,978 unread posts under each topic either but that's the least of the problems. I'll check back in a week!
-
This is amusing… could not sign in on my iPad, access denied message, but was able to sign in on my phone! I have been signed in on multiple devices before so that’s not the problem. Of course, whether I have signed in or been denied access it’s painfully slow
-
debal,
If you are signed in, the number of unread posts in each thread has always appeared, unless you read them or just access the thread.! It’s been this way for the 10 years that I have been a member.
-
I agree with a poster above who said this should have been tested across all kinds of systems and devices before ever putting it out, and that's been one thing I've been wondering about too. Did they ever even test this at all?
-
I just got an "access denied" error 4 times as I was trying to submit a response to a post. My response finally posted on my 5th try.
Mods, wrenn is right. Shut the place down until you get it working. The appearance issues are one thing, but the load times for pages is unmanageable, especially when combined with the convoluted way that we have to navigate and the frequency of application errors and access denied errors.
And how about an update on what is being done? Is anyone hearing any of this?
Okay, now let's see how long it takes to submit this post....

Okay, now let's see how long it takes to submit this post.... 1 access denied... 2 access denied... 5 minutes to post and then it posted twice.

Even in the days of dial up on e you were finally connected things were good. This is never good. Impossible to find where to log in (every 15 minutes) and then start over once you are finally in.
This is too hard on blood pressure so will take a break.
Maybe someone needs to start a forum on one of the sites where specific groups can join free. WW people did that after they did away with discussion boards.

My entire name should be capitalized. Also, this started happening before the new look, I have to backspace when I start to post otherwise I don’t get a capital letter. Plus, my last punctuation mark at the end of the post I have to go down a line or it ends without the punctuation.
