kathindc - Great minds…? 😎
The white background is harsh to me even with brightness turned down. The font sizes on the page are different than before. The signature (in italics) and profile texts were smaller than the post text. Makes reading more difficult.
And the pages are loading much more slowly. I noticed default avatars where there were none before. Could that be adding to the loading time? I see no value in default avatars that’s just a circle with the first letter of the username.

I've been going back and forth between an iPad and a computer and did find the iPad very hard to navigate (computer marginally better). I am surprised at the slow speed. It take ages to click through to a thread. I haven't tried the search function but will be disappointed if I can't search by member name as I use that feature a lot.
-
Thank you all for your messages. We are working hard to resolve glitches as fast as possible. Moving forward, please send us a PM with the glitch you're experiencing, so that it doesn't get lost in the shuffle here.
As always, thank you for your patience as we improve our Community.

So no public complaints?
I think it is good to let others know what we are experiencing so they don't wonder if it is just them. I was relieved to read in this thread that the site is really slow now and not just my computer.
-
Wrenn, you're welcome to continue to post here. However, we can't guarantee your issue will be viewed/reported to the tech team unless it is sent by PM to us. So, in order to make sure it's addressed, we decided the best way to capture all issues is to have you send us a PM.
Thank you.

Or you could use the email notifications on this thread…
-
Thank you for your suggestion. We'd appreciate if you sent a PM. Thanks.

How do I know what is a glitch and what is intentional?
I did just notice that when I clicked on the above post to sign in to post a reply, after I signed in, I was back at the home page. I had to slowly find my way back here by clicking Active Threads, clicking on this thread and then clicking to get to the last post. That's a good way to discourage replies.
Edited to add:Given how painfully slow it is to navigate the site, No, I will not go to the effort to send a PM if I find a problem. That's asking me to do a lot more clicks and waste more time. The Mods and the developers should be reading this thread since this is where we've all convened to raise our concerns. That seems more reasonable than asking that we flood them with emails.
-
I'm starting to wonder if you just found a way to get the impatient among us to go away. LOL.
-
Why are screen names not capitalized, if we put them in with capitals? My screen name is Beesie, not beesie.
-
FYI, the new layout and font are not user friendly, certainly not to me. Font size too small, too much glaring white space! My personal information either is loading extremely slowly or has disappeared. I am being asked questions about my basics of my BC and what I am interested in as if I have never been on the site, or am a new member. Navigating the new site is not intuitive.
-
ok so one thing I just noticed on the laptop is that the up arrow floats so is always present on the screen so you can go to the top of the page & menu from any post. On android mobile it doesn't float and you have to search for it at the bottom of the page - that should be a feature on mobile as well.
And yeah, everything is super slow on both devices.
-
Beesie - I noticed that some usernames have been switched to lowercase, but not all. Weird.
Is sending a PM instead of posting on this thread part of the redesign? This requires more work for someone on BCO, doesn’t it? Email notifications for this specific thread can be redirected to someone who only deals with tech issues. It could be directed to an application that automatically creates tickets. PMs will have a variety of subjects not isolated to tech issues. Why make it harder?
-
Not impressed with new format. Slow. The screen is painfully bright on my large PC. Searching for topics or members is confusing. Maybe it is just me. .
-
Yeah, my name doesn't have caps either. It is Elderberry - not elderberry.
-
That name thing is a bizarre glitch. Why would capitals disappear in the names? I wonder what it will do to combinations of numbers/letters. Ha!
-
I had faster internet service thirty years ago with our super-cheap dial-up. This totally sucks. I'd hate to be one of the new people, or someone with a new recurrence or other issue, desperate to communicate and having to wait so long to load a page. If I still smoked, I could inhale half a cigarette waiting for a page. And the tiny font is horrible, especially for older people. This looks like a bargain basement website before anyone had graphics on theirs.
-
OK, I'm glad I'm not the only one who really hates this. I agree with the comment that this isn't formatted like a discussion forum at all. WAY too much white space; the small font is ridiculous, and there's no way to see the forum topics without scrolling for days.
I imagine that "they" are still working on this which is why the pages are loading so slow, but really... the work should have been done before going live. This sucks.
-
I usually pop in several times a day to check new posts and replies to existing ones, and to reply to anything that interests me. I just noticed that I had to log in AGAIN to respond to a post. Bullshit, I'm not doing that. Mods, please fix all the things you ruined or you'll be losing loyal members.
-
"This looks like a bargain basement website before anyone had graphics on theirs."
AliceBastable (or is it alicebastable now?), that's it. You nailed it.
I just glanced at the Active Topics list. I think BCO hit a record for least number of posts in one day. A sad record. And yes, I feel bad for someone who is newly diagnosed or newly worried about something and has come here looking for support.
-
Have an uptodate Mac with Chrome. When on profile page, I can't scroll to edit my profile that has been coming up incomplete since the platform change. Whenever I back page, I have to re-log on. Hope can be fixed.
-
Using my computer now for commenting.
Much harder on the iPad than on my Mac.
Arrow does not float on the iPad so you have to scroll for it.
Left margin is almost half the page due to the menu bar and ad. Really!
Taking the brightness down also affects the printing. So the way I see it, the background needs to be tweaked by BCO.
Painfully slow.
Were the changes not tested on various devices? Apparently not by our responses. I worked at a university and when departments web pages were incorporated each department was responsible for its content. My department was one of the few that used Macs. I had to be given a PC because one thing we noticed was formatting for one platform didn't always look the same for the other and that was over 15 year ago.
BCO is now definitely not user friendly!
Edited to add: Tried posting to two forums. Got access denied two times for one before it went through and once for the other only to find out when I went back to it that it posted.
And one forum I had to make the page larger so the right side could be seen in its entirety. Sorry I don't remember which one and was not about to go through to find it due to the slowness.
-
I don’t have a problem with the design but was nothing learned from the last release?
1) Communicate the change before it happens.
2) Give stakeholders a voice and input during the design process
3) Do adequate testing on a test server before a production release.
4) Fast performance is essential. (The site is terribly slow.)
-
WOW!!! BCO has done it again!!! Awful, awful!!! Making unwanted changes no one likes, without notice to members. Did you ask us if we wanted glaring white pages with tiny text? Did you ask us if we wanted slow loading, barely functioning pages? BCO tends to think it know better than users and has done major changes in the past only to have to change it back to something functional that members can actually use. BCO seems to wonder why traffic is less and less each year--it's probably because of the changes your long-time users can't tolerate!!! The only graphic which is clearer and brighter is the "Donate" icon!!! Trust me, I won't be supporting you if I can't read the pages!!!!!!!! Change it back NOW!!!
-
Not a fan of this redesign. Sorry, IMO. I always wonder why when something is working so well why the need to change everything. This site is slow and lagging. I will not continue on this forum when it takes so long to find my previous discussions and everything seems so spread out and time consuming to find my posts and responses? The old site was working!

I totally agree. What IT genious folks came up with this? I will not continue on this site unless major changes are made to go back to how easy it was on the former site. Why? Why the need to change when something was working just fine???
-
I just spent 20 minutes waiting while the pages loaded so I could read three new posts. Then it took about 5 more minutes to return to this thread. Why would BCO EVER have launched such a poorly functioning update!!!!??????? Why any update without asking members if we wanted or needed it!!!!! I will check back tomorrow, but will not be back to post on any threads, other than to note if this discussion board site still doesn't function by tomorrow. This is like a 1990s basic html page!!!!! BCO tried non-functional updates in the past, failed then too, and went back to something we could use. Back out your update--it was A HUGE FAILURE!!!!!!!!!
