Sheri, I too am knitting and have "redone" some squares after a few inches because it was (usually) too wide. Just subtract a few stitches and try again. Every yarn is different. Some want 26 stitches, a few only need 21 stitches per row.
If we get sick of afghans, maybe we can make placemats or car accessories (tire cover anyone?)
Have 5 beige-y squares completed. Moving on to a skein of white, might get 3 or 4 from that. -- Donna in VA -
Oh my goodness, our computer crashed and you all disappeared...I was so upset.
We purchased a new computer and have it partially up and running....and will try to catch up with everyone as soon as DH loads all the programs in the new computer.
Madison -
Great, it looks like we've gotten a few new Knitters/crocheters! The more the merrier!
Love and Hugs,

Well I was thinking. Maybe someone would really enjoy an afghan made of TRIANGLEs. I got the love, I got the want to, I got the time, I got the yarn, I got the sisterhood way down deep in my heart! What I don't have is...talent. But I got alot of tips from you girls today and i appreciate it. I'm keepin on keepin on.

I would be willing to take some yarn donations. If you would like to send it to me, pm me and I'll send my address. I'm hoping my squares were ok. I've tried crocheting, but like Cheri, my squares don't turn out very, well, square. With knitting, you do have to adjust the number you cast on depending on yarn.
-
Cheri,
You crack me up! Love Triangles! (no dirty minds here!) Send them on, I'm sure Vickie and Madison can turn them into a square!!
Hugs,
Denise -
Cheri, yes please send me your triangles - - because actually the squares aren't really squares (they are 7x9 rectangles).......We work all the different shapes into the afghan by anchoring them with a black stitch around..then stitch the rows together.
Madison -
Cheri, like anything else, it takes practice. Fortunately, you are not making a garment where it has to measure exactly. We all have Vickie and Madison to even things out. I have made soem that are not exact size and I have been crocheting for over 30 years! I also put in my rating to help get this topic's rating up. I never knew about the rating system.
I have been a little achy lately in my lower back so I have not made many squares. I also have a project to finish before my niece has her baby in May. I am sure we will be happy hooking for quite some time yet! I only wish we didn't have people to send afghans to, you know, that there weren't the bc patients out there. -
Thanks for the rating Beth. We got it up from 2 stars to 3, but this community afghan thread should be a 5 star thread.
Nicki -
Sneaky little program, won't let you vote twice! teehee I gave her a fiver. Would've done it again, but wuoldn't let me.
-
I rated it a 5, too. It definitely should be.
-
Okay, I rated us! Forgot to do it the other day. I have quite a few more squares done. Let me know who needs them, or if you want me to split them again. I'll mail in a couple of days.
Love and Hugs,
Denise -
Here is the afghan going out tomorrow...lousy picture but it's really bright and pretty...and it is straight...I'm a crooked picture taker today!
-
GREAT AFGHAN Vickie....I love the colors.....
I have a new one 3/4 of the way completed....with 3 extra squares left over....I actually crocheted a few to go in this one....
so I will be needing squares soon...THANKS YA'll....
Oh, please, please PM Vickie or I with suggestions.....We really, really need their screen name, real name and addresses....I will need some names this week as I will have one ready to go out by Wednesday....and I know Vickie is working on another afghan.
My computer crashed yesterday and I had several names stored in Word....well the computer techs can't recover any data from our hard drive...so please re-send any information that was sent earlier....grrr computer problems....
Hugs, Madison -
I just gave us 5 stars too.
Great afghan, Vickie!! I just showed the picture to my daughter, and she was so excited to pick out the squares that I made. I'm teaching her how to crochet because she wants to help make squares too. She's made a couple of triangles too, so she's a little frustrated, but we're working on it.
Hugs,
Sue -
I have 3 squares done, and am hoping to get a yarn donation from my MIL when I see her next Saturday, so hopefully I'll have enough to mail soon. Sorry, I've been a slow worker.
I never worry too much about the stars, but I gave this one 5 to do my part.
Anne -
Vicki,
The afghan is so beautiful! I would like to donate $ for the shipping and or yarn would you pm, thanks!

Vickie..looks great...thanks for all you do
-
Vickie - gorgeous as always.
Cheri - I mailed your CD priority mail earlier today. Hopefully it will get to you soon.
Madison - I mailed squares last week. You should get them today.
Hugs
Liz -
Thank you all for the compliments! You are the very best. It's funny, this afghan is so brightly colored and cheerful that it looks like Easter. In the mail today.
Love and hugs to all
Vickie -
Vickie, the afgan is gorgeous! So colorful!

Well well well. Hmmm. My dd just came in and woke me up to show me a beautiful square she'd taken 22 min. to make....on the Knifty Knitter! I got up & while we were talking she'd made me another one! She loves that thing. She'd ran out of the yarn she liked for her blanket so she just whipped up a couple of squares for me. Sooooo, since I gave my Knitter to her I'm sending her to town this afternoon to get me another one and some heavier yarn and she's going to teach me how to make them. So, I should actually be producing good ones.
Madison, Vickie, I still have 10 or 11 triangles that I 'crocheted' if you all want them. lol They are funny! But I am continuing to try to crochet as well so Thanks Liz for sending the cd I'm going to use it. I WILL learn this. But I'll use the Knitter so I can send squares quicker.
Vickie, beautful afghan, I'm going with some different colors. I like the brighter ones.

Cheri I wish I could say I had crocheted a triangle but I cant get that far so be proud of what you have done!
Amy -
You girls are silly ....
I think a triangle blanket would be wonderful, as long as you dont expect me to learn a triangle!!!!!! although come to think of it I have done something very close to those while trying to makes squares in the past but not sure I would call them a triangle either, guess we will have to make our own word for them....
Vicki, Madison,
I have 24 squares done and ready to ship 1/2 to each of you....hopefully you can make them work....most measure 7x9 but as I was laying them out last night to mix the colors up for you I noticed that some looked smaller...they were 7x9 when I made them, dont know what happened....Im sorry if they arent usable
Now that I have mastered the square ones again I will continue to crochet and ship....I hadnt worked with yarn for years.....I love to crochet but I mostly do the fine lace doilies that my grandmother taught me.....
Take Care everyone

The afghan is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!! I've got about 10 squares done and will try to finish a few more and get them in the mail for Madison this week.
Jule, mine seem to shrink a little sometimes, too. They will be perfect when I measure them on the needle, and then,poof--they aren't quite right. Vickie and Madison are so talented, they make all of our efforts look so good.
Vickie, who is the recipient of this one? Are you telling? -
Beautiful Vickie, I can't believe how fast you two are putting these together! I will be sending a shipment this week! 12 or 15 a piece.
Hugs,
Denise -
Cheri,
I just PM"D you. Whoa, I tell ya, the knifty knitter is a great tool. Especially if you have wrist problems, like I do!
I don't do one in half an hour, but..........I sit and do a few rows, put it down, come back, etc.
Good Luck! Are you guys using the straight loom? Do you still want pictures?
Hugs,
Denise -
Dear Madison and Vickie,
I know you are wanting suggestions for the afghans. I can think of so many (like everyone!), who would love one! I've come up with a couple of ideas, will try to help you out with suggestions real soon.
I'm gonna do a few more squares and then will put them in the mail to you both.
Hugs,
Denise -
My dd taught me how to use the Knifty Knitter. I worked a couple of hours on a square tonight. I MADE ONE!! She made 5. Plus I have about 11 of not so god crocheted ones. Wow, you can really tell a difference in the crocheted ones and the knitted ones. Course we used a heavier yarn for the knitting but they are sooo soft and fluffy and the crocheted ones are tight, coarse and flat. How in the world do you girls put those two types together?? The knittd ones are much looser than the crocheted. Anyway, I am on my way as far as the Knitter but I don't enjoy it like the hand crochet. So my dd is going to help and we should have squares and triangles ready real soon.

Squares and Triangles from Cheri!! Love it!! I was worried about the loose knit with the knifty knitter also, but our "girls" tell me they are fine. (I think Fine means workable!!) Enjoy, that's one of the purposes of this project! Your DD did 5 in 2 hours? Dam# Sam..that girl is hauling butt!
Love and Hugs,
Denise
