For all you crochet buffs out there:
I am using G hook, starting with a chain of 27, then double crochet in third chain from hook, then every chain thereafter....
Chain 2, turn then double crochet in next chain (remember your chain 2 counts as a double crochet), then dc across until it is 9".
I have been crocheting in only the back ridges in the last 5 squares for a different look.
Madison -
Ok, I am good with the crocheting. I use an H depending on the weight of the yarn. I have gone up a size if I use two yarns together. I chain until it measures 9 inches. First row is singel chain, at end of row I chain 2, turn and double crochet. At the end I chain 1 turn single crochet. Repeat until 7 inches.
But I could not get into my head for what to do for knitting. Thank you so much Lisa for posting what you have done. I will have to check what my guage is to ge to the right size. I have been crocheting for over 30 years, learned when I was a about 11. I just learned how to knit last year and really love it too. My mom is the one who was teaching me until she fell and is now in assisted living. It is difficult getting the extra time to be with her and get knitting tutor time in! Lisa, if it is ok, can I ask for your help on a project if I get stuck? Thanks. -
Madison...thank you for posting how many to chain and the size hook you are using. I have had a tough time getting the correct size and I can crochet literally anything!! I have been adding the borders to the squares I have and they are truly beautiful!!! I know I promised a picture...just exhausted lately...been a long week and it's only Wednesday.
Love ya ladies
Vickie -
Woohoo ladies,
Squares from Donna arrived today...I know I said I'd post pics but I am simply exhausted tonight. The squares are beautiful Donna and I hope to have an afghan done by the end of the weekend to ship out!!!
hugs all
Vickie -
Vickie, I just emailed you and I don't which you will see first. I mailed off about 10 squares. They, like me, are not perfect but pretty colors and combos. When I did the one with the eyelash yarn it looks like a chia pet yarn! Well, I hope it gets there in one piece. Larry took it to the P.O. for me at lunch.
Will continue to make more and I may try my hand at knitting a few. I need to finish up a project here first. -
Yeah Beth...I haven't seen your email yet. We have had the auditors at work all week and it's been a zoo!! I can't wait to see them.
I wanted to share a pm I got from Vicky the who makes the quilts as we were worried that we might be "stepping on toes" so to speak.
Hello,
Sorry this has taken me so long to respond to but I have been nursing a cracked rib so spend very limited time on the computer.
First, you could never hurt my feelings by doing a good thing. The more we can give the better world we all will live in.
I would be very honored to accept one of your blankets. It's been 40to50 below here with the wind chill the past week. I never seem to have enough blankets around.
The surprising thing is that I have made quilts that have traveled far and wide, but I have never made one for myself. Always seems to be someone more in need when I do get one done.
If Lilia didn't send you a list of names, let me know and I will send you one!
Thanks
Vicky
Isn't she the sweetest!!! I am really hoping to get two afghans done this weekend.
I am going to take some pictures now and will post them in a bit.
Hugs all
Vickie -
Pics of squares I haven't put borders on yet
Pics of some of the ones that I have put borders around
I have many more but too many to get pictures of and they are all beautiful!
hugs and love
Vickie -
I am SO excited! They look beautiful!!
Hugs
Deb C -
Ha ha, I see mine in there too!! Thanks for the pics. The crochet ones are really cool. I will have to learn crochet sometime. I tried it once long ago but went back to knitting as it seems to require less concentration (there are people who can actually knit with their eyes closed, I can almost do it without looking too often.) -- Donna

Madison: Thanks for the directions. Chain 27 - yeppers thats good. I have my own favorite popcorn stitch so I might put a little twist to it.
I have so much really cute, left over yarn here. I was also thinking about crocheting in pictures like a shamrock or a heart.

You all make me want to do this so bad but when you say its easy you havent met me. I might just have to go by me a book and see what I can do.
Amy -
I'm Sooo glad they got there. I'm started on another batch. I will send those to Madison. I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures of the finished blanket.

Deb C -
Amy! Im fast! I'll make 6 for me and 6 for you! Right now I have to go into all the closets and finds all my bags of yarn. And somewhere is my crochet hook. I made hats and scarves for 20 different people last year, so I have lots of colors. Just gotta get off the darn computer lol.
Nicki -
Vickie,
Boy, that was fast mail service! I'm so glad you got them. I just logged on to ask you a question. The ones I sent you had a right side and a back side. Were they okay? I think I've learned how to make a double side so you can't tell the front from back. Let me know cuz I want to get back at it!!
Hugs,
Denise -
Hi Amy,
Trust me, I feel your pain! I was born with 20 thumbs and no coordination! I was determined to help with this project and someone suggested the Knifty Knitter. I bought it, left it on the ottoman for a week, read the directions and thought never in a million years. I got it out, and love it. Trust me, if I can do it anyone can. That is not just a cliche, it's true. I trip on my own shadow, can't chew gum and walk, etc. etc.
Buy one....you'll love it!
Hugs,
Denise -
Nicki--
You're fast? Wouldn't want that to get around if I was you!
Jeannie -
This is the official first afghan!!! LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL!
-
Jeannie: Hee hee hee. Sure dont want the reputation of being too fast.
So last night after I had a few glasses of wine, started looking through all my bags of yarn. Couldnt find my crochet hook. Gave in to the booze and went to sleep. Gonna look for it again this morning.
Nicki -
Ya know....Walmart has lots of shiny new crotchet hooks!
NS that is absolutely gorgeous! -
Jasmine: yes lol, but I wont be going out this week-end! With port removal, not driving til Monday. Plus it makes me crazy. I have more than one crochet hook somewhere in this house!
Nicki -
I was just teasin you, Chemosabi. I'm sure you'll find the ones you already have at the house.
-
Vickie,
I've been working on another project, but it's almost finished. Do we have a deadline when we need to get these to you? I'm starting some this weekend. -
Sheri,
There is no deadline.....so happy you can join the "mad square makers"....
You can send squares to Vickie or myself....when you are ready send us a PM and we'll give you our address...
Thanks and Love to ya, Madison
