Gee it's fun when you lose a long reply post...barrel of monkeys! Arrrrg!

Ingerp - What sweeties you have! Assorted sizes and colours! The big black dog looks exactly like my childhood pet...Norton, after Ed Norton of the Honeymooners. Lucky you to have such lovely pooches!

DearLife - A rescue kitty, how cool is that! Poor thing, shivering on the porch, so glad you found her and took her in. You must miss her. The lion...so majestic, the raw power! It must have been an amazing sight live. So you're a traveller..awesome. My mother has trekked through Tanzania several times, as well as most of the Middle East. I come from a long line of travellers, have done quite a bit, but not Tanzania...yet. Thanks for the link, I'm delving into IF further, and we should do a Part II...today's posts were interesting and fun...reading peeps views/experiences/input is so important...and there is always more!

Vamp - Stellllllllaaaaaa! Lol what a cutie-pie she is, and paleo!! Love her hat with matching shirt and tie...old school gangland style, all she's missing is the 42 Ford with suicide doors! Btw, no earth worms for this girl, meal worms are more like grubs (yeah I know, not much better lol), but I do have insect standards! :)))

Warrior (paleo unicorn) - Funny dog pics bring a big smile to my face too! Question for you...what does a vegan feed their dog? Meat dog food?

TwoH - ROFL!! omg girlfriend....my momma didn't raise that big of a fool! I never get political here, too contentious, but will have to say NO WAY!! Bombastic is the word that comes to mind. Not that I'm enamoured with our fella either lol. Maybe we can share Clooney cross border on weekends and holidays...I'll still throw in a case of brewski. :))) nice IF stats, btw....as I said, we have to have a part II.

Pixi - remember Ford? Do we need another??? LOL! Even George isn't worth it! I'm holding out a Tim Hortons franchise...heh heh, our secret weapon.

Everyone - don’t forget it’s Foodie Friday tomorrow..drag out those recipes, stories etc...anything cooking related.

Thank you cave chicks for sharing your pics...it's so nice getting to know y'all beyond our eating styles, means a lot to me.....not a bad apple in the bunch! Well, maybe I am :)))) group hug!!

Yes meat dog food! 😉 I believe everyone should have the opportunity to make their own diet/lifestyle choices and she’s chosen meat food! Lol. But she does love her fruits and veggies, especially bananas and peppers!

Warrior - Stella's a great name isn't it! Your Stella is so flipping adorable, I just want to cuddle her. lol

Ingerp - you certainly have your hands full with 3 of them! Love them all. If I could save all the dogs in the pound I would, husband only lets me have the one....unfortunately she's cute, but a nutcase when there is thunder, fireworks and gunshots. Very frustrating!

Awe DearLife - so sorry about your kitty, you can have mine! lol She brings you left over's for dinner! Maybe I should be sending her to Egads?

TwoHobbies - No Way you can keep them all, we don't want Trump here! There is not enough hot men or money in the world IMO! lol

Last Night's Dinner was a hit with the family. It was super easy to make and honestly to me it was basically eating salty ground beef and every once in awhile you would get one of those browned onions....ummmm

Just a word on the third pup. Our Corgi has degenerative myelopathy (ALS for dogs) and something in me wanted to bring another dog in before we lose him. He's had fun with the new guy--actually running around in the backyard (he's still pretty good on the straightaways, not so good on the turns), so I think it was a good call. And I guess it's just as well the new guy is chewing up flip-flops rather than fur-lined boots. . .

Vamp - Looks so yummy! Would it be a good cabbage roll filler with leftovers?? I can’t open your link :( I needs me sum of dat onion...so good!

*Rubbing hands together*Oh Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy Oh Boy, it's………..

    FOODIE FRIDAY!!

Post your latest culinary creation, new culinary equipment, fav recipe, success, flops….even new kitchen paint job….WE want to see and read about it!

This week, my entry is titled 'Redemption'.

Last week's insect fest went over like a lead ballon lol (it tasted good, really!). So this week, while still bordering on the slightly weird, I'm posting my Beetroot panna cotta with lemon mousse dessert. Inspired from a similar dessert and reproduced via Bon Apetit mag, and various paleo sites.

    So, with no further delay…..

    TA DA!!!!

    image

    Ain't she purdy?

Taste? Distinctive but light beet taste. Takes a bit to wrap your head around beets as a dessert instead of savoury. Paired with the lemon mousse made it a wonderful summer treat. The panna cotta on it's own, I think would take getting used to...as a mousse would be more subtle.

I had to make paleo lemon curd for the mousse, coconut whipped cream for the topping and the panna cotta. Yeah, fussy but not difficult. The small red beet specs in the panna cotta aren't detectable at all when eaten. Carby because of the beets, weekend treat.

Hello, Paleo ladies! Nice to see so many familiar faces here. Ok, here is my rap: I was on Dukane diet for about 3 years. Worked great, then one day it just stopped working. Pounds came on, stress went up. Added more gym hours as a result and hurt my back. Survived a back surgery. Ha, I thought that was the worst time of my life, little did I know... Tried Keto diet, failed. Was constantly nauseous from the fat. Moved to Mediterranean on advice of my husband’s cardiologist. Fast forward 3 years and a wrist surgery, cancer made its appearance in January of 2018. Melanoma in situ, excision, given a clean bill of health. Went to check everything else, just in case, and hello, BC!

I am an Ashkenazi Jew from Ukraine. I don’t think there was any point in Jewish or Ukrainian collective life times when these people didn’t eat the grains. Joking, of course, but not really. I know I can live without the carbs, I also know that my body doesn’t like it too much. Ergo, I eat quinoa, buckwheat, brown rice and sprouted bread in addition to veggies, berries and some fruits. I found that these are the only foods I can stomach during the first week after my chemo treatment. I don’t even bother with seasoning, just salt and butter. Love me some fish and tofu. And goji berries! Red meat is out of question most of the time. I exercise every day now. Mostly walking, elliptical and light strength training. Lost 12 lb since my diagnosis. At least 4 of them were my boobs (joke, too).

Please take me in! I love you, healthy people! 🙏😜

OMG! I was offline for a couple days and there is soo much to catch up on, I'm not even going to try!!!

Inna, Welcome! we have fun here!

Egads,.. will you come and be my chef?? I will try your crickets if you come here and make for me!

Only made it to the gym one day this week... stupid chest heavies.. on and off.. my angel chemo nurse advised me to take it easy. Went back last night, but it was leg day, so it was easy on the cardio... we'll see if I'm up to kick-boxing today. Its just weird, on and off, not really strong....sigh..

forget about food this week! tried to get back on the wagon... holiday did me in.... but I am definitely paying for it.. feeling crappy...

But, LOVING all the new posts! I'm keeping Clooney, but I want all those Ryans too..trade you Trudeau for Trump??? please??

oh, and we are a cat family, (sigh.. not my idea) I have 3. Floop (Floo powder), Moody (mad-eye moody, he has one eye) Tonks (she's orange) who can guess the theme? Oh, and Moody, black and Tonks orange were adopted together on Halloween....

Inna - Shalom & welcome!! Take you in? Hell, we held a strategy meeting last week deciding how to get you here (probably using Clooney)....thanks for making it easy! :)))) I just love you gals that are giving it the ol' college try during chemo....I ate myself stupid....which has become a permanent SE Har! As I've said before to those in treatment, do what you need to do right now, and by the looks of things you're doing pretty good! It's a hard road. I have plenty of time to try to convert you out of that grain LOL, joking of course....kinda. ;) Thanks for the kind words about the dessert! Delicious is questionable, the lemon mousse side is a dream, the beets, well, still wrapping my head around the taste. Yes the ladies here are hilarious, and we make fun our first course....glad you joined us to make it even funner (yeah I know, that's not a word). Looking forward to seeing you post....you seem a perfect fit! :)

Map - Welcome back chickee....wondered where you'd gone. Awwww, rotten luck with the breathing issues. I suppose the heat and humidity isn't helping! Leg day is my go-to in times of peril (lol), I'm proud you went! Let us know how the kick boxing goes tonight please. Crappy food, well, put it behind you and soldier on. Funny how quickly bad food sticks a finger in your eye when you move into it's zone. It's not worth it in my case. Does a dance on my tummy.....the Mexican hat dance!! Be your chef?? You might want to reserve judgement....Firestone is interested in my pot roast! :)))) Tell ya' what, you can have Trudeau, but you have to keep Trump too. The Ryans? Nope. They're staying north of the 49th parallel. Cool cat names! Harry Potter? Glad you're back, missed ya!

I'm going to confess early about my trip to Vegas. One of my coworkers/friends retired after 37 years of working where I work and so they had a lunch celebration complete with cake. One of my other friends at work is the one that coordinates things like that and went out of her way to have the best cake maker in the land make the going away cake as well as having her make some gluten free cupcakes just for me. I would have liked to have refrained but knew it would really hurt my friend's feelings after all the trouble she went through so I caved. Not sure if it had dairy in it but guessing it did so not good for my hopefully dairy elimination plan but it was delicious. The rest of my meal was mostly okay...brisket, salad (I grabbed my Primal Kitchen dressing to use on it) and a small bit of baked beans with bacon (pretty sugary and beans I know are a no on paleo). Anyway, back on the wagon I go. It's grilled ribeye and roasted veggies for supper and no dessert.

The cupcake reminded me of Egads crickets as there was real vanilla bean in the frosting so you could see these little black specks in it. While it was delicious, it really was too sweet for me. Maybe I am getting better at not wanting something so sweet. Really, it didn't make me feel that good. I think there is a saying, "when I eat crap, I feel like crap". That is definitely true.

I did not realize that Fridays we need to post a Foodie Friday. I will post one on Sunday on a new recipe that I tried Wednesday that is made in the oven but I did it on the grill. It was a broccoli bacon (I always use uncured) contraption. It was yummy!

Cowgirl - Vegas happens eh? I completely see why...not easy to turn down a good friend! Something great has come from it... a pretty cool observation...sugar is waaaay sweet after you go without it for a while. I was a sugar-holic before. After all this time I can’t handle it, blech, too sweet...oh and the tummy probs after..not worth it. You also got a full hit of how yucky ‘regular’ foods make you feel. I often think that I walked around for years feeling crummy and didn’t even know it! I have a friend that just celebrated 12 years of sobriety, and she says that she didn’t realize how bad she felt until she dried up. Kinda the same as us lol! Ribeye and veg...nice way to jump back on...and farm fresh you lucky so and so lol!! Foodie Friday is voluntary, but would LOVE your recipe on Sunday!

Good afternoon cave peeps! Hope your weekends are going peachy!

I'm going for another clean week, carbs at 60 max, workout 3-4 days, at least 9 moves weights per, 3 sets each, cardio 40 mins per.

Who's with me in a clean week?

I exercised every day this week except Fourth of July and have almost six hours of exercise in, due to being off work this week. Feeling OK about my eating generally but definitely doing a lower red meat content next week. I feel less great having eaten sausage, ribs, hot dogs (twice) and bacon this week. I haven't eaten that much red meat in a long time, and I just feel sluggish. I'm looking forward to a new week with my usual shrimp and chicken and lots of salads.

I purchased some Enlightened ice cream bars - salted caramel. They are dairy but have erythritol and monk fruit as sweetener. Dang they are good. Not truly Paleo but come in handy on the low sugar plan if you have a craving I still like So Delicioius almond milk and cashew milk ice cream too and one of those is pretty reasonable carbs for a treat. Summer is my danger zone for ice cream and mango bubble teas from the local Thai restaurant so its nice to have a replacement treat handy in the freezer if I am really tempted.

Egads and TwoHobbies - no one likes a show off. 😁😂😜🤣

Well other than my yucky pizza day my net carbs have been under 35. (Still think I am doing something wrong.) No exercise due to no energy. This cold is sucking the life out of me, got a little depressed yesterday due to that fact. I can't even make it past 7:30pm right now before I pass out, mind you this darn cough wakes me up hourly I swear!

Made pancakes for the men this am, thought I would try Keto Flappers. They were delicious, and I ate them plain! https://docs.google.com/document/d/10bA27-5OglQuHe...

P.S. I did fix the other link...

vampeyes, I'm been suffering with a miserable cold since Tuesday. Starting back to exercising anyways, did some yoga yesterday and weights this morning and I had maintained my house pacing for activity. I fear pneumonia and blood clots. 🙄

I need to try vampeyes pancakes!

Here's the mini frittatas I made for lunch. I just heated spinach, uncured diced ham and mushrooms in a pan and wilted all of the spinach down. Then drained off the liquid and put the mixture in the bottom of my olive oil greased muffin pans. Then I just beat enough eggs to cover the mixture and baked for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees F or until a toothpick comes out clean. You can put whatever goodies in it you want and whatever herbs.

Vampeyes, the only reason I got that much exercise is I was off work.

I think that cold has hit about 98% of people by now. I didn't have the coughing version but was mightily sick and everyone in my house got it. It took me about 12 days of get through it and feel better.

Recipes look good! I should try those egg muffins because you can take them and heat them up when you need them.

DH has challenged me to eat like him next week - which will mean I can't do 80/20, The funny thing being that he never listened to me for the 5 years I've been doing this, but now that he's lost 49 pounds, he's got the religion! He thinks I can't do 100%, so I have to show him.

I made a crustless quiche yesterday with extra egg whites, veg and sun dried tomatoes. Will try it in muffin pans so I can freeze them.

TwoH - Nice exercise numbers!! I hear you on the red meat thing, For the most part I'm a fish and chicken gal myself...sprouting fins and feathers soon, like some weird morphed out Paleolithic creature lol. I've done the So Delicious products..great in a pinch. Unfortunately they leave my tongue happy but tummy in knots LOL! This time of year basically leaves us singing 'I scream for ice cream!!!' :))) You go show the DH the stuff us chicks are made of!! I know you'll do 110%!

Vamp - awwww, hate that you're under the weather. Summer colds are the worst!! tell ya what, I'll do your workouts for you this week if you give me the next 5 days at 60 carbs, lower your fat intake and up the protein. That might make the diff. Worth a shot. Besides you need more protein when you're sick for repair. Your pancakes look awesome...very fluffy, the family must have been happy!

Cowgirl - how pretty are those egg muffins!! I keep a couple of dozen in the freezer, great for everything. Gorgeous bakeware too! All my pans look like something they fix pot holes with lol! Way to jump back on the wagon.

Pixi - So sorry you're suffering too, totally stinks! Your dinner looks fab! I'm just trying to figure out what isn't paleo about it? Looks pretty much paleo to me....not to mention delicious!!

Inna (Godda Davida lol) - Heck ya, yay you! You turned down the bad and went for the good...in a rather luxe way...lobster, look at you allllll fancy on a Sunday...nicely done!!

DearLife - The quiche sounds yummy, looove sundried toms! Not sure if you've frozen them before, but I notice that if I sauté the veg before cooking they freeze better. Without the sauté, mine always defrost 'wet'. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, not sure. Share the recipe? Please? If you're going to Pixi's for din-din, I'll swing by and pick you up...I want in on that action! ;)))

Tonight I gently poached skin on chicken thighs and gave them a quick finish on the grill using a chilli lime garlic oil....Daikon, green apple & purple onion salad with citrus dressing, steamed asparagus. Very summery meal, ate on the deck. Neighbor started to cut his grass with his very LOUD mower...oy vey...we fled back inside, plates in hand. Life can't be perfect, but we had food, all ended well ;))

Cowgirl - Those do look delicious, what a great idea to make extra and freeze for later! Use to have a recipe that had salsa in the mini egg cups, lost it and they were sooo good!

Inna - Nice job on passing on dessert, I think it gets easier?? lol

TwoHobbies and Egads - you girls know I was kidding about the showing off, right?

Pi - I am with DearLife and Egads, that dinner looks amazing, what time should we be there?

Egads - Do you mean 60 regular or 60 net, what would be the reason to increase? I don't feel bad with the way things are going, I think that's what makes me feel like I am doing something wrong it's because I don't feel hungry. All those other diets I turned to lots of diet pop and water to fill the missing food gap, now I don't need to do that.

    Morning good peeps!

Vamp - Dude! No way! I laughed hard at your comment.....There is nothing better that getting so comfy with folks that we can't poke & tease em' a bit. Funny comments are part and parcel of this thread, so bring it!! Keeps it real.

As for the carb increase, I only recommended because you were talking earlier about the scale not moving downwards and thought you might be frustrated. The lack of hunger is a natural reaction to adjusting to low carb, the fats are keeping you full. I'm the same way, and it's going on 4 years now. I only get really hungry after working out. It's the beauty of this regime, you're rarely hungry and turns the whole thing to a way of life instead of a dreaded diet. Diets don't work.....I put diets on the same playing field as torture. If you're happy, I'm happy!

p.s. if you, DearLife and I do the road trip to Pixi's place, I call shotgun!!! :))))

Morning, I'm just a visitor, not dieting. I think it was Px with a cold. I have a suggestion.

Years ago DS did a science research project. It was my idea b/c for years I wanted to know the answer. His science was excellent. He should have published the results.

First year: "Could bacteria be reduced on the toothbrush by putting it in the dishwasher?"--yes. Second year: "Could bacteria in the mouth be reduced by putting toothbrushes in the dishwasher?"--yes. The average person uses a toothbrush from 3-9months without cleaning it.. His research showed that toothbrushes are a hotbed of bacteria. Washed in the DW it reduces the bacteria to ZERO and the bacteria in the mouth is reduced progressively over  3 weeks of using a DW cleaned TB. The mouth reduction may be even greater, but the testing period was done on weekly intervals for 3 weeks. Actually, his results were huge. Hence, my encouragement that he publish. OH well.

I use a toothbrush for one day, then it goes into the DW. I haven't had a cold in years. Commercial UV lights are available, but can be costly. This is especially good during a reduced immune state.

Sassy - Visitor?!?!?!?! No. way. no. how. You're one of us... we wouldn't all be here having fun n' games if not for you! Doesn't matter what place you're at, you'll ALWAYS BE A CAVE CHICK. so cut out that 'visitor' crap...'nuff said.

    HugHeart

My mother used to soak our brushes in a bleach/water solution when we were sick. Gotta be honest, the thought of putting my toothbrush in the DW is a wee bit yucky.....like putting undies in the laundry with face cloths and dish towels. It does make good sense though as they are a hotbed of bacteria (running right now to disinfect toothbrush!). I also go over door knobs and light switches with antibac cloths when someone is sick at home....and on a weekly basis. I HATE touching grocery cart handles (especially during flu season). Thankfully the stores have a antibac station now. Who the heck knows what the guy before me had on his hands!

I'm not a germaphobe, honest!! LOL I just try to attack the more obvious places, especially in public. Building immunities is important, but no way do I want an avoidable flu/cold.
