Kath, That's clever. I never thought about taking advantage of one way streets.
Daffodils did great in the cold snap. Right now they're taking over the front yard. I enjoy the view.
-
Shep - You really ordered it?! Let me know what you think of the final chapters where the history of Jesus comes in.
Lover of Life - LOL That is quite a load. Shep packs like that? I always have this dream of traveling, one month here and three months there and so on. All over North, Northeast. Cottages, cabins. I too would pack like that even if the places were furnished. I am a nester. So I think Shep must be a nester. And Junie pushing it to being a nester if not full fledged already.
People - I just ate 6 sliced peaches w some cottage cheese. And now I am eating half a sandwich. Why? Because 3 nights ago I chose to forego the aromasin. hmmmm Been sicker and weaker for weeks now, barely able to sit upright in a restaurant, too weak to open bathroom door..... and now I know why. It all runs together. So I see my oncologist Tuesday and we will hav to come up w a plan. My qol has to be the priority.
Wonderful experience - last weekend we went to a buffet - when I needed out of the bathroom had to knock on door so Hubby who was waiting outside door could get me out, heavy wooden door. Instead a young woman and her little girl knocked back at me then opened the door for me. Second trip to the bathroom, I went in the room and of the two stalls the handicapped was occupied. I had not thought of that problem. But this wonderful young woman came rushing in and called to her daughter, Dixie, did you start peeing yet? Daughter answered, no. The lady had her use the smaller stall, told her to always use the little stall. And I was able to go in handicapped side then. I thanked her so much for noticing and caring. Was refreshing.

Wren, daffodils are more of a cold/cool weather flower. I’ve found with mine that if they bloom when we are having higher than normal temps and the sun is bright they don’t last as long. Only thing to worry about when you get snow when they’ve bloomed is the intensity of the sun afterward. Sun and the reflection of the sun off the snow shortens their life quite a bit.
Lover, I see you’re up to mischief again
-
That is nice. I'm pleased when a young person offers me a seat on the bus, especially if they're sitting in the spots for seniors and disabled. I take them up on the offer and thank them profusely.
Last night on the bus I was seated across from a neighbor I don't see very often. We were both eyeing the other and trying to decide if she was the neighbor or not. When we got off at the same stop, we started talking about it and laughing.

Kath, I found an interesting article for you. Hope the directions for the steroid drops is a taper one.
Yeah, DH is a work in progress ( as I am) by the grace of God. He went to Costco and bought eggs, milk, fruits, and bread for us days before. He worries that we will run out of food. Hah! I reassured him that I haven’t forgotten how to drive to the stores. He is good most of the time. I think I will keep him. Thank you for the prayers.
The girls are doing well in school. DD is in Southern Cal at a swim meet, so it’s just DD2 and I home yesterday and today. DD is still not sure if she wants to study kinesiology as she hates Calculus and Physics (probably “weeding classes”). Math is not her strength. Doing well in Anatomy and Physiology, which by the way has one third less students than when they started. She likes writing, history, and psychology. Will see where she is heading. I know definitely not business like her dad.
Blue, I guess you are right....Shep is a nester. She packed breakfast items, water bottles, tea, utensils, you name it, she probably had it. Bless her heart for thinking about us. I would love to visit Northeast during autumn one of these days. BTW, I am still waiting for the PM from you regarding your book. I guess I can ask Shep for the title. Now you make me even more curious.
QOL is important. Love it when people show their love/compassion with actions rather than words. The moms at the restaurant indeed were teaching their girls a valuable lesson. I still can’t believe what your friend said to you about salvation. I am sure she thought she was helping.
Ok, got to get my lazy bum up and start cleaning. Hair hair every where. Good thing we only have one Mitzy. Always ready to play ball.
-
Loverly. Mitzi is beautiful. The only other time I have heard that name was a German shep my mom had. Very protective.
-
Loverly - Mitzi is so beautiful - she looks very regal in the 2nd photo. Would love to play ball with her and stroke her beautiful black fur. What fun!
-
Lover, thank you so much for the article. It did answer a question I had. Definitely need to read it again. It has raised some other questions which I will address on Monday. No tapering on the steroid drop and I've read that being on it 1-3 weeks shouldn't be a problem to stop abruptly and in the next sentence it said after several weeks you should taper. I'm on that prescription for 1 drop four times a day for 2 weeks Much appreciate you taking the time to find this for me. I'm at the point that I want to delay the second eye surgery to at least six weeks after the first to make sure there are no adverse effects. Right now I have it scheduled for four weeks later.
-
I guess I might not be a nest maker. I was a travel agent for 20 years and pack carry on only. The only trip where I've taken more was to Russia in December when I did need more room for all the sweaters. DH takes everything he might need, eg,. 5 coats to visit our son in Oregon for the weekend. At least we're in a car then. My theory is to take one coat and something warm to put under it if it gets colder. If it gets warmer, I can take off the coat and wear just the warm layer. Of course, I could probably get the coffee into my carry on. Can't function without it.
-
Kathy, I envy you gettting the cataracts done. My doc keeps saying "Not yet". I can't drive at night. Colors are getting worse. The one take away from Moms cataracts. Was she was prescribed macrodantin post op. She said her eyes felt prickly after 24 hours. I held the drops and got her in right away. Of course, she was having a reaction that was considered unusual. But continuation could have caused much more serious problems. SOOOO, if you question anything. Hold and call with direct answer from the doc , not the nurse. So, hope you are enjoying the colors with the one eye. Then when both are done let us know
Good Luck
LOverly, Nice update on the girls. A&P is simple memorization. But it's allot of memorization. The physiology is perhaps more difficult because it's about how things work. I liked it and thought it quite fun. Easier when you think it's fun. There is an old book that might be available on Amazon. "Studying and Testing" Standford University Press. Written I think in 1940. Subsequent printings, but discontinued maybe in the 60's-70's. The precepts are as valid today as then. I first received it from my SIL. for use with my Paramedic students. It's the nuts and bolts of how to approach both. i.e the mechanics of studying in a reproducible manner. Even though she has been a highly successful student, the books approach may have value for her when a subject seems much tougher for her. Did wonders for my students.
Best to Hindrik and praying for a good mission.
-
LOverly,Mitsy has turned into quite a handsome dog. I forget what the vet thought of genetic origins. Certainly some hound. Like a sight hound of ancient Egypt. She definitely has a beautiful confirmation vs genetic soup. Would it be too much to ask for a pic of her when she first came home to you. I remember her as being very skinny. She looks soooo healthy. Please, also, the story why you choose her. Has her anxiety abated? MY two are making me nuts with allergies. They love rolling in the grass. Grass has the yellow pollen from the trees. etc. Donnie washed both this weekend. I think a weekly bath will be good.
-
Mags, sorry to hear the news. Wishing you comfort and good options.

Hi Ladies
Still up at 4:30, and eating junk food. Mostly Girl Scout Cookies. Daughter has been in Scouts since a Daisy. I've always loved to eat, and I lost my appetite after my mascectomy, but not for long. While doing radiation, and even when I finished, I did not want ANYTHING. I was so happy, I lost weight. Then, I started to think oh, no, do I have a reoccurrence? Loss of appetite and fatigue were my only symptoms of radiation.
Well, I've been on Tamoxifen for a year, and I crave sweets all the time. I eat a good, healthy breakfast, then it's junk food. I can eat a box of those GS cookies in five min, and I do. I was wondering if anyone of you has, or is taking Tamoxifen, and did it increase your appetite? What about weight gain? I have really put on pounds, and I'm 5ft 1 inch tall, so it shows much more. Grrrrrrrrrr😂😂😂😂
Kath
Thank you for sharing your story about your son's years at a catholic school. I have to say, I thought it was funny too. When you said you were on vacation without him, you didn't feel all at ease. Yep, that weird feeling something is up. And I think that inner feeling, or intuition is always right. Did your son think you wouldn't know? The fire extinguisher was the kicker. Lord have mercy🙄🙄🙄🙄. More important, I think your son learned a lesson.
In the triad of NC, there's six Catholic schools from pre K - 8th grade. We have only one Catholic high school. The whole school is maybe 400 students, less than what Reece has in her 9th grade class.
So, I'm going to take a deep breath, and stop arguing with my exhusband to put her back in private school. He tried to tell me all along that alchohol, drugs, anything that goes on in a public happens in a private schools. So your post was very much appreciated. How many sons, and daughters do you have? Are they in college, or are they finished with their education? Also, how are your cataracts doing? Are your eyes better?
Loverly
Do your daughters like school? Are they both in high school? Well, I think one is because she's the same age as my Reece's pieces(nick-name). Ninth or Tenth grade? Is one in college? Any sons? A good point, money is needed more for college. Was it you that told me some young girl got alcohol poison? You probably told me, how did she get access? Come to think of it, probably not that hard. Sigghhh. Your daughters seem smart, and have a good head on their shoulders. When it comes to our kids, their foundation has to come from their home environment. Thanks for your input as well.
Oh, now am I hallucinating, or did someone mention a sub was at her school, and students were actually throwing desks, and hitting? I think that was a TaRenee. Am I right, and you teach? If you told me before, I apologize. I try to remember everything.
-
Oh Loverly
Mitzi is a beautiful dog. Hmmmm, I bet she's not spoiled😁😁😁. I have a crazy, fun, and bipolar cat that could keep Mitzi good company. Just a little on the wild side, but friendly. I could arrange, well to send her to your family on the west coast. Haha. Dear daughter would never forgive me. I love Nicole(cat), however she is what these generation of kids call "extra" I can barely sit, or lie down, and she's all up on me. A little much.
Oh, since I mentioned animals, do any of you have a cat, or dog, well, or any other that actually CHEWS your hair. This is the only cat I've ever had that does this. Is it normal? Eww -
Junie
Hi, been thinking of you. How are you feeling? Are you having any relief from your back? I saw you were going to post a few days ago, then it was deleted. Please touch base. -
Can anybody give any latest updates on Mags, and Patty? Wondering how they are?🙏🙏🙏
-
Jayme it was indeed me who said the kids were throwing desks with the poor sub. This week they are taking the keys out of the keyboards of the chrome books. I took 8 down for repair that had it done to them today. NOT IN MY CLASS by the way. That would not happen in my room. The teacher doesn’t have the kids assigned to a specific number so there is no way of telling who did it. But they will not have them to use at all if they keep that up. Poor tech crew is gonna flip out
-
Jaymeb, the girl that ended up with alcohol poisoning was at a party one of my girls was at. Luckily, a call was made quickly and she was ok. Some of the kids made a stop at a liquor store and got someone to buy beer for them. There was a store in the suburbs that was notorious for selling to underage kids. The county tries to catch them. A few years back, the county hired some underage kids, sent them in wired to try and buy beer and catch the stores that way. Don’t know if they are still doing it. I have three children. DS is 43 and has lived in Japan since 1999. Met his wife there and they have a boy and a girl. DDs are 37 and live here in the city. One got married about 1 1/2 years ago. As adults we have taken them out for dinner for their birthday but this year they wanted a home cooked meal. I got a chuckle because ever since they could tell me what they wanted for their birthday cake they’ve always wanted different ones. They did it again! Brought back memories from when they were little.
First eye will be done on the 26th. Second eye has been scheduled for a month later but I’m thinking of rescheduling it as DS and family will come in the weekend after. I think the eye drops schedule will be hard to maintain while they are here for two weeks. Plus, the first week they are here I’ll still be using an anti-flammatory drop in the first eye. At that point I won’t panic if I miss a drop or two since it would be the last week for treating that eye.
Patty has been quite on her page. One of her sisters came to be with her the other day. She was waiting on a biopsy report but has not posted since hearing results.Another sister is due to arrive.
-
Jaymeb - Thanks for asking. My back is still the same. Since the bus accident I've been having more nerve pain down the front of my right leg. I see the neurosurgeon next Tuesday. Finally! However, if I end up having surgery, I'll have to stop the Ibrance for 3 weeks before & 3 weeks after.
I met with an Attorney yesterday regarding the bus accident. Apparently there is a Law that covers individuals who have medical issues like I do. It is called something like the "Egg Shell Law"? Anyway the man who caused all this chaos is still in jail and the DA's office has called me several times to inform me of any scheduled court appearances of the defendent. Unfortunately, since the man is a transient and has ZERO money or insurance, a claim may be made to the insurance company of the Bus Company. It all seems so complicated.
My poor sweet Kirby had a major freak out on the bus this evening. A man carrying a skateboard got on and it really freaked Kirby out and he barked & barked. I was afraid we'd get kicked off. Fortunately we were only a half mile from home if that had happen, but it didn't. Then as we walked up the driveway another man on a bicycle rode by and Kirby acted terrified, pulling on his leash trying to get away. I do not know what caused this reaction. He has seen both before.
kathindc - So your first eye is healing well? I'll bet you're really looking forward to seeing your girls. I hope you have a great time.
Loverly - How are you doing? I really enjoyed seeing the pic of Mitzy. She's looking very pretty. How is your Dad doing?
I am listening to a news report right now on T.V. about how United Airlines mistakenly sent a woman's' German Shepard to Japan rather than to Portland. Instead a Great Dane that was supposed to fly to Japan ended up here in Portland. Apparently United Airlines has a very poor record in transporting passengers pets. Very disconcerting!
Blue - How are you doing?
Waving to everyone!
Ok, I will say goodnight and wish you all a good sleep tonight!
-
Junie, eye surgery is in a week and a half, ugh. Had the pre-surgery check up yesterday. One DD lives a mile from us and the other lives in the downtown area, about a 20 minute drive due to lights and traffic. They use our address for package delivery since one works for a credit union and they aren't allowed packages delivered to their work site due to security reasons and her rental office only holds packages for a short period of time and she doesn't get home from work until after they close and the other daughter uses it for large items that she can't get home on our subway system. Definitely looking forward to seeing the grandchildren when they come at the end of April and their mom that I haven't seen for eight years. Toko and I get along so well. I knew the minute I met her that she was the one for my son.
-
Home from my 1st Faslodex injection, labs and hydration. Tomorrow is an ultrasound of liver and the mass on my left carotid artery / vocal chord nerve. Saying that, you can see the appt w the oncologist on Tuesday was very positive. I got everything I thought I needed and he believes it is definitely worth the try. He said, "This is your time now." That is good bedside manner speak for you may end up in hospice but we're still kicking the boulder down the road. I don't mind. He is a gem of a doctor. And he given hugs and remembers names. He is maybe 40 yrs old if that.
The new oncologist team takes over April 1st, finally. Under Dr. B's lead, he is a research and trials for cancer in Fort Wayne.
Worn out, cannot stay, already was in one thread and have some to go for reading. But I did read everything here.
Mitzy is so sleek and healthy.
Junie - on Dog Whisperer, he desensitizes dogs to their fears. I love that show, was how I trained Danny Boy after we rescued him. Wish I had known about his program before we got Brigadoon, but then we might not have Danny Boy. Big B was not neurotic, he was psychotic and dangerous due to his many fears.
Hate to, but have to go.
Diane

Hi Loverly, Junie, Kathindc, Sas, Patty, Renee, Shepkitty,Blue,Wrenn, and Mags😘😘😘😘🙏🙏🙏
I think I got everyone. I did lurk on Patti's posts. Wow, she is so loved, and has such a great support system. What a positive and sweet lady. As bad as she feels, she reads all posts, and still manages to respond. Her boys is who I worry about, I hope they have a support system. Do they get along with their father? Lord, I hope so. I didn't understand all of her recent diagnosis, but it sounds like she has some options. Apparently, if I read right, she has her2 positive which gives her more treatment options. However, there was some worry about her blood and platelets. I really don't know some of this medical jargon. Sas, are you reading on her forum? I know you'll understand all of this. When you can, will you explain it to me?
Also, ladies, what is going on with Mags? She's supposed to move in her new beautiful home the 28th of this month, I think. I hope her plans work out for her. I watched her video of the house again. Lol.
-
Okay ladies, I'm going to talk about animals. Yes, I know we have a cat thread, and a dog thread.
Although we love all animals, my daughter and I have two cats, Nicole and Mary. Nicole is very friendly, and wide open. Mary is obese, and weighs 24 pounds. Yep, don't know how to get her weight down. She is the sweetest cat, so mellow. She sleeps with Reece, and Nicole sleeps with me. I just want her to stop chewing my hair like it's grass, or hay.
When I was diagnosed with BC a year ago, Nicole constantly wanted to be around me. Everywhere. Tripped over her a few times. After I had my mascectomy, she would lay on my tummy, and put her paw on my chest. She was stuck on me like glue during radiation. After the reconstruction, she's putting her paws on my chest.
Have any of you had your furry friends know something was going on? How did they react to you? I've read several stories from women who swear their beloved cat, or dog found their cancer. I know certain dogs can sniff cancer, not sure about cats, even with their strong noses, and great hearing. I think cats are intuitive, and just know. Same way with dogs.
Did any of you all have pets that constantly showed you love, and wanted to be near you a lot? I would love to hear some stories from your beloved pets when you were going through your journey fighting cancer, also, women who are still getting treatment. How much love are they showing you, and in what ways. Thanks -
Doing okay but tending to my furbaby Princess who has a cold.
-
Jay, there has been research over the years on cats and dx'ing BC. On STFU I did a survey and somewhere around 7 were alerted to their BC by their cat. Dogs were in the mix. There is a researcher in England working on it for years. Google Breast cancer and animals identifying cancer. Maybe "English researcher and animal identification of breast cancer.
Many have identified as you have their furbabies our very attentive to their illnesses. Dogs are being trained to identifiy many forms of cancer. Melanoma and prostate are two that come to mind. There may be more now, I haven't looked at it in several years.
My last question to Patty waas for a clarification Re: the new hormone status, plus a few other things. I just found out last week that the reason Patty and ExAH. Split up b/c he had an affair. Analpore.
Queenie, I woke up today and the E button is gone. That makes E,A, and B gone. I know I need a new unit, but stilllllllllll doing that stupid bathroom. Plus, twin has an HP. I have delusions I may be able to help her and thinking having the same unit may be useful. HOW is your class going?
Blue, sorry all is such a mess. Eating is one of our greatest joys. My go to drug is pepcid complete. I prefer it b/c the H2 blocker works rapidly and the calcium is a two for one drug. I don't take it often, so the Ca++ isn't enough to cause constipation. The twofer part. Quells the acid and I'm taking Fosamax.
Waving to all Hope we all have a great weekend
-
My late kitty Charcoal (my avatar pic) and my Sheltie, Jackson stayed very close to me when I was going through chemo. They were my comforters when hubby was at work, especially when I would go throughout crying jags. Now my precious kitty, Princess, joins her brother Jackson in being my comfort when I am in need of it.
-
A such is memory. Left here to find that lady in England re: cats and got diverted. BBL
Mommy, Glad your furbabies have alwys been so comforting. Also, thankful that you keep W&F's flowing . HUGE HUGS for that

Welll, not getting much more recent stuff, but I may not be asking google the right question either. I'm going back to STFU and find what we worked on then.
-
Did a Psych. paper in college on how animals are good for both physical and mental health.
It’s my pleasure to keep W&F’s going. I always get funny stuff sent to me.

Mommie
Ihave been looking for the survey and I found this old picture
This is a headstudy of a German Wirehaired Pointer done by Rien Poortvliet in the 60's. It was as if my Schatzi was posing. It's not Shat's but it's almost her
