    I made some squares today, and messed up! But sweet Vicki told me what to do, sooooooo maybe I'll figure out what to do with them!! OK at least i'm trying LOL. Love this ladies, xoxo Puppy

    Don't worry Puppy...I can fix anything and its the love in the squares that count more than anything.
    This is so great...so many ladies joining in...if I missed pming anyone my address just let me know. Madison has also said she can help with putting the squares together.
    Got a special surprise in the mail today from someone but I can't tell you who till I get her permission...just a sweet dear lady that I love so very much that wanted to help out.

    I was thinking about Melissa today....I have an afghan started (made with popcorn hearts) and I couldn't help but think about all of you wonderful people...and the one person who brought us all together....Melissa....and how we needed to do something special for her...

    I believe you meant to type Marisa, not Melissa. Melissa & Tami are the board moderators (and they do a fantastic job), however Dr. Marisa Weiss, not Melissa, is the founder of bc.org. Because of Marisa's outstanding efforts on behalf of the entire breast cancer community, she should definitely be presented with an "honorary" afghan from all who are willing to share their talented skills.

    You are right about the founder....Marisa...I was watching TV and it hit me....the founder is Marisa, not Melissa....

    just to give you an update.
    I still only have one rectangle completed.. got a knifty nitter today that makes rectangles I think. I will have lots of time starting next week. this is such a great idea.

    Vickie, I am working on my squares. I thought I measured correctly but one is a little bigger than the others. Hope it is OK. Let me know and I will take it out and redo. Mixing yarns look terrific. I will post pics before I send them.

    I have to admit I have 2 projects going....one is a full size afghan started long ago, and the other is the 7 x 9 squares....

    The only problem I am having is my BAD cat is trying to catch and eat the yarn as I crochet AND NOW my maltsu dog thought that looked like fun and is now trying to catch the yarn.....

    Geez, I spent more time last night trying to get yarn away from my critters than I did crocheting.....

    I am going to crochet again today.....maybe my hands and yarn won't come under attack..

    Madison, my cats both were ok with the yarn unitl i mixed in the other threads. The smaller balls were so much more fun for them to chase than a big ole skein of boring sinlge color yarn, LOL. So I spend a little time picking out the stray cat hairs before I put the finished squares in the bag to go to Vickie.

    Madison: After hearing about the happiness and joy that NS felt! Well, Im gonna put my kleenex box aside and will be crocheting today myself. I have so much yarn here. How many squares do we need? Or how big do we want the afghan to be?

    Oh and I have 2 bad cats. They dont like any cat toys. There would much prefer chasing my yarn.

    Each afghan takes 49 squares but that doesn't mean you have to make 49!!! Make as many as you wish...with all of us working it will be great and we will make as many as we can.

    I had scads of sport weight yarn left from all of the baby sweaters I made last year. Have discovered that two skeins of sport weight crocheted together equals the worsted weight gauge so now I'm busy playing making "tweed" squares. You get some interesting combinations that way and they're nice and soft.

    Haven't sent anything yet Vickie. Made so many squares they didn't fit in the box I had---new box is BIG so have to make more. BWAHAHAHA----the Mad Crocheter stalks among us!

    Jeannie, thank you for the idea! We, mom and I, have a lot of baby yarn leftover. Never is enough to do anything with but too much to discard. Throwing away yarn is like tossing out clothing. Just finished a real pretty one. Got to chase Shade off of the pile!

    Jeannie has become the mad crocheter!!! Me too...isn't it grand. How is everyone doing. I hit the Michaels store today and thanks to our anon donor I bought 10 more skeins of yarn. She used to be a regular here and has moved beyond but checks on us often to make sure we are all ok. She is a doll but wants to remain anon....soooo....love you anon sister!!! Your the best and Happy Valentines day to you too.

    NS, you crack me up! My thoughts exactly when I bought the knifty knitter! The directions are to basic for the craft challenged. It sat on the ottoman for atleast a week and then I took it out. I have knitted this round thing that is quite nice. I just don't have a name for it yet! I haven't figured out yet how to get it off the loom! I think I put a brim on it, but I think I put it at the top instead of the bottom! Before the day is over, the thing is coming off of the loom . If it gathers, I will make a Pom Pom and call it a hat! This is a trip, if I knew how to post pictures I'd send it for all to see!!!!!
    I'm going to check some of the sites about directions and then I hope I can make the squares for the afghans!! Keep me posted!

    Vicki, thanks for posting the instructions for the rectangular loom. Do you find it easier to use the rectangular loom than just crochet??

    Well, Denise congradulations. What does the hat look like?

    I knitted a rectangle today. I begin to see the advantage of crochet, since presumably the crochet rectangles are reversible. I made stockinette, per the directions on the Michael's site, so there is a right side and a "wrong" side. What are the other knitters doing? If everybody else is doing something like moss/seed stitch for the knitted rectangles then I will change over to that.

    Also, do we have to pre-wash them to see if they shrink? The yarn I am using is pretty thick and I'm on size 8 needles so it is pretty solid, but I don't know what will happen in the washer and dryer. -- Donna

    Hi Donna,
    I am planning to knit some squares and I thought I'd do a bunch in garter stitch, but your idea about seed st is a good one. Since I have lots of Homespun left over from prayer shawls that's what I'll start with,and then move on to work my way through my stash.

    Okay, you ladies are getting way over my fried head with all this talk of different stitches and thickness' and needle sizes!! Remember, I'm a real ROOKIE!! If I can manage a 7 x 9 square (doesn't sound square to me!), I'm sending it on............It just may be the focal point of one of the afghans!!

    can i just puleeeeze send somebody a care package of yarn?

    there is no friggin way i'm going to even attempt to learn this!!!!!

    somebody tell me what to buy (and be very specific) and while i'm out tomorrow i'll buy whatever ya'll need, and mail it to the first responder (but remember.....be very specific.....buying yarn to me is very foreign lol)

    i want to participate so that is as good as it'll get from this "craft challenged chick"!

    i'll check in the morning and purchase/mail in the afternoon if i get any takers!
