The funny thing is... at the Super Bowl parade most everyone was fine....friendly, no one was bad.......the problems were the night they beat the Vikings for the Conference championshisp....always a few nit wits in the crowd.....and yes they were all drunk.....and they get that state store courage.....the nice thing is you seldom see faith and religion in any sport today, but this team has that, and call me goofy, but I swear the good Lord was cheering for them too ....LOL....
After the game they were in the locker room, and they all knelt and said The Lord’s Prayer......normally they are throwing champagne all over each other.....in this crazy world today......it was refreshing to see that.......we’re happy...
\Weight loss is a plus....not a lot, but evry little bit helps.

Ducky, just about every city winning its first championship in a sport in a long time (or ever) has its share of young drunks blowing off steam, and not always harmlessly. (When the Bulls won their first year of their first three-peat, some people were actually standing up in their cars shooting into the air through their open sunroofs as their buddies drove, and some rioted. Surprised that Cubs fans were as peaceful as they were last year). But the yahoos are never representative of the vast majority of their cities' jubilant but well-behaved fans. As to your health, you are the poster child for "not getting older, but better."
I was so hopeful this afternoon--our snow guy did a great job yesterday, and the streets were beginning to clear up after we got about a foot or so over the past few days. We stayed home tonight rather than attend an Indian banquet out in the burbs, because Bob reported patches of black ice on the freeway and I have a cold. Made tagliatelle alla Bolognese with broccolini, and watched Get Out! on Amazon (five Best Picture nominees down, two to go). Just looked out the window, and--uh oh--at least 2 more inches, maybe 3-5 by morning. And we must drive out to Oak Lawn tomorrow for our friend's birthday party--another reason we blew off the banquet tonight. Sigh.

Gratefulness brings joy to my life. How could I feel joy in what I take for granted? So I stop taking for granted, and there is not end to the surprises I find. A grateful attitude is a creative one, because, in the final analysis, opportunity is the gift within the gift of every moment-- the opportunity to see and hear and smell and touch and taste with pleasure.

You are so right Sandy about the behavior of many when championships and other things like that come to town. Just as in the fact that some neighborhoods are less desirable then others each place has its potential troublemakers with VERY rowdy behaviors. Though things of that nature are pretty good here I still enjoy the solitude of living out of town right in the front edge of the woods.
Not sure what we will get today. A bit on the slippery side outside and it looks like my windshield has some ice I will have to melt off via the heater and defrost before I make my trek into town. Sigh !!! Knew it was coming but more than that I dislike the grey that is a part of it. Course, if there were sun the solar radiation would clean my windshield.
Not a lot planned for today. Taken to reading lately a website that I find pretty informative which is Eat This-Not That and enjoying the accompanying info that comes along with the choices. I need to continue to make myself aware because I'm far too much of a procrastinator many times on health issues. I often eat better food, but then don't follow with some of the exercising/walking that is a major enhancer to good food choices. Sigh !!! We are all here to learn so I will keep trying.
Hope all of you will have a good day and stay very safe if you must go out in bad weather.

I watched the Sunday morning news shows this morning, the last one ending at 11 am. By then the rain had stopped and the sun was peeking out. So I made myself presentable for venturing to the supermarket, got into my car, backed out of the carport and--it started raining. So back inside.
I'll wait for another break in the rainy weather and make another attempt.
My yard is a swamp. The good news is that spring is about to spring. The trees are on the verge of budding out. The big tulip magnolia in the front yard is about to pop into bloom. The late-blooming camellia tree by the carport is in full bloom. It's 70 degrees today.
Well, it's getting brighter outside. This may be my opening.
Happy Sunday to all.

hey guys it has been a while! Have a question been having some itching no specific place just off and on. Has anyone had this issue? Been on armidex for two years. Not dry skin. Please help. Shuf
-
Hi shuf ..I have been on Anastrozole for almost two years and notice that every morning, about 90 minutes after I take my pill, my back starts itching like crazy. It subsides in about an hour, but I know that it is a SE for me.
-
Wow !!!! It was slip and slide till I got to the highway. It is only a mile to get off our backroads and onto the highway but times like this morning when going 15 mph is on the fast side it feels like such a long haul. Dh's truck did not do any better than my car. In fact, he waited for me where I feed the feral cats. We went on into town and had some breakfast and then I did a Goodwill run as long as I was out. Then onto Walmart for some grocery type items, then back home. The roads in town were fine. I don't think the city put anything on them either. They apparently stayed warm enough that the sleet could not ice over, but just melted.
By the time I got done in town, the roads out here had de-iced so not a problem though I was nervous about the trip home and carrying groceries in as well. We park and come along a long walk-way to the deck -- so if slippery it is a long slow walk. I imagine it will freeze again overnight. Not liking that and Dh has to go to Marion tomorrow. I think by that time it should be okay.
-
thanks! Shuf
-
Shuf, I took arimidex for 5 years and didn't notice itching as a SE. I have had scalp itching at night for years. It's weird that my scalp seldom itches during the day but every night in bed, I'm scratching. I have used different prescribed products including shampoos. Nothing really helped. Now I just accept itchy scalp as my night time normal. Weird, huh? One of my sisters takes an allergy med for itching. I take an allergy med for allergies but it doesn't help the scalp itching at night.
It's gloomy outside and I just heard a rumble off in the distance. DH and I are going to the gym this morning instead of tomorrow morning because our YMCA is closed tomorrow for Mardi Gras. It has been a rainy Mardi Gras season this year. The New Orleans parades will be telecast tomorrow on the network stations so those staying home can watch if they choose.
Not sure what I will do after the gym and back home for breakfast. Depends on the weather. I need to buy a curtain rod for the bathroom. I have some window treatments that I made for my office some years back and the fabric matches the new color of the bathroom perfectly. The room that was my office is now a large guest room with different window treatments.
Off to the gym. Have a great Monday.

Your right Sandy.....there are fools who show up ..they come right out of the woodwork...thank God it is just a crazy few, but so sad how that is what makes the news, and not the peaceful crowds of more then 2 million who were so grateful for the win........
FYI.......LOL.....hardly the poster girl.....bum knees, bad back, scalp psorisis, and should I keep going.....the weight loss is a plus. I must admit that....always dizzy and off balance and that drives me nuts......oh and did I mention the hearing loss.....I just keep trying different hearing aids but can't find one that works for me........I have a narrow ear canal on one side, so it isn't easy to fit..........and actually “if you want a laugh.....2 weeks ago I went to a hearing center to be fitted for the 3rd time, and the Dr. looked inside and said “do you realize you have a hearing aid dome stuck in your right ear....had been there for 4 months..which was when I returned the 3rd failed pair of hearing aids..........funny now, but it wasn't then.......all I could say was “only me this could happen to"......
Lost another lb this morning on the scale...good news....but like I said...I have to lose a small toddler.....so I will keep trying.....but for anyone who wants a bit of a heads up..........I cut out sugar, all but 2 spoons in my coffee in the morning.......and also I ate a lot of Pasta, cause it was an easy meal......have stopped almost all pasta other then....Organic rice pasta, which is excellent...and I rarely eat pasta anymore...I think that was a huge part of the problem.......
So this is long which I did not mean it to be.....crappy weather here, rain, gray, not too cold, just miserable...can't wait for the Spring...hugs to you all

Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love.

Hope Ducky that your ear issues get settled. I fell in love with my hearing aids ( sorry Dh ) from the first moment on. So many things can be taken for granted because until it changes -- it is simply there, pretty much unnoticed as long as it works okay. My hearing loss took a while, but seemed most evident in the fact ( I was acting as Sec/Receptionist ) that I had extreme difficulty writing out numbers correctly.
I've only lost a 'dome' once and Dh got it out easily. There are different sizes of domes etc. but I'm sure you probably ALWAYS get the smaller ones. People can also have a sight allergy to the 'plastic' of the tubes and dome in the ear. Sometimes the ear just gets a bit sore, but it is only a minor annoyance when it happens to me.
Bread tends to be my worst downfall -- for some reason it really packs on the calories/Lbs. I do love pasta, but try to parcel it out in smaller increments -- its the darn bread that tastes so good ( butter garlic toasted ) with it.
-
Your right....I got sore somtimes too...my left ear was no problem...now they are going to try a “molded in the ear type”...although my ENT said you may never find one that works, but the in the ear molded might be ok, so try that one.......he showed me why....he said the hearing aid has to go in the ear and rest very close to the ear drum and the sound is amplified and that is how you hear.........in my case iwth the right ear the hearing aid goes in, but becaue the canal narrows you either have to leave it where it sits (which when you eat talk it moves), or you push it through, and then you have to worry because in most cases when you take hte hearing aid out....the dome can pop off from you having to pll it past the narrow area......so we will try again,.....LOL..also had trouble with background noise..........they could not seem to get rid of it without also cutting down on the ability to hear conversation too.....but will keep trying
-
Hi you guys.... I know I'm never around, just trying to get through this Winter.... But I read you guys... Ducky.... about your hearing aids...I've been lucky with mine I guess....
I lost my hearing due to a small stroke near my 8th cranial nerve.... Woke up one morning after about 1 1/2 years on Tamoxifen. I finally quit that ototoxic drug, but this doesn't happen to very many women.... just if you have a certain "gene"...
I've had 2 pairs now... For about 7 years.... Both Bernafon.... sp? I get them from Costco.... for about $2500, and that includes cleaning, new domes, and hearing tests.... These new ones are great!!!! No more feed-back, which was driving me NUTS!!! AND I quit using Ear-Candles to clean the wax out of my ears!!! Those were a big mistake!!! It was not any wax from my ears, but from the candles themselves!!!
If anyone needs more info, let me know.... And the batteries are only about $8....for 40 of them from Costco.
My ears... WERE sore in the beginning.... from the little plastic tubing.... but I finally got used to it.... and they quit itching! I use "calm-ear" sometimes.... just make sure you keep them dry, and don't take showers with them.... Hah!
Carole.... I LOVE your little hats! How cute those are.... I've made quite a few also, but my thumb has been so sore, and tingles all the time, from all the blankets and scarves have made by crocheting...
Yes.... so cold here! One day it is nice, then like 12 degrees all day today! I can hardly wait to start my gardens!
Hey Jackie.... Love you! xoxo
-
Chevy, Thanks for stopping by. I was thinking about you the other day and intending to track you down. I think we're all ready for Spring. Seattle has a huge garden show Feb 7-11. DD calls it 'flower porn' and I think she's right. DH went and brought home a lot of plants and seeds. He does the garden.
-
Chevy, it was fun having you "appear." Glad you're doing well.
I celebrated Mardi Gras (fat Tuesday before lean Lent) by staying in bed until 8:30. The news reporters in New Orleans are out talking to people set up to enjoy the day at Parade routes. The people bring coolers of beverages and food. Some bring grills and cook food similar to tail gating at sports events.
I will be attending the parade at the nursing home with my mother. There is always a king and a queen elected by the residents. The employees in charge of celebrating holidays do a good job. There are always decorations.
Happy Mardi Gras to everyone. Here I am flinging some beautiful beads to you!
-
To be glad of life, because it gives you the chance to love and to
work and to play and to look up to the stars; to be satisfied with
your possessions, but not contented with yourself until you have
made the best of them; to despise nothing in the world except
falsehood and meanness, and to fear nothing except cowardice; to
be governed by your admirations rather than by your disgusts; to
covet nothing that is your neighbors' except their kindness of heart
and gentleness of manners; to think seldom of your enemies, often
of your friends and every day of Christ; and to spend as much time
as you can with body and spirit, in God's out-of-doors--these
are the little guideposts on the footpath of peace.
Henry van Dyke -
Happy Mardi Gras to you Carole and your Mom and family too. The beads are great. What fun. I think the smells of food ( a lot of it being cooked ) would just be so tempting. We do have some of that go on, in Oct. here for Halloween Parade. During the day there are chili-making contests so a little happens. The night parades ( likely the day too but I don't usually go down then ) have Funnel cakes being made---those sinfully wonderful and full of millions of calories, cakes. If we do go, I usually get a cake to share with Dh. The other time of the yr. ( Balloon Fest time ) is when the balloonists come to the park. I usually don't do the funnel cake there unless I didn't do it at Halloween. I'm pretty cautious -- won't have them twice in one yr. as that is how calorie laden they are -- along with being fried in hot oil.
The sun is shining bright today and hoping it stays. Got my car washed yesterday but a few spots still there. It was damp as I was flying along the highway with a couple of trucks passing me and kicking up 'salt' from the road. Hwy. dept put it down really thick due to the ice storm during the night. Just yikes.
Took Dh to Marion yesterday so that he could have some extra x-rays done. A Dr. he is seeing for his leg issues here needed them. Long drive for the x-rays, but nothing to be done. Hopefully this will be clear enough to make some/any determinations about the whole thing. Dh has trouble walking sometimes and is once again having to sleep in a chair rather than his bed which he says it not comfy. It is a hospital bed so I'm not sure why he can't 'find' a spot. So I am hoping these x-rays will reveal enough to bring some answers.
Going to day to stay with my lady on the highway. Will be nice to see her again and I think it will become a weekly thing. Maybe just enough income for me. Not looking for too much work at my age because keeping up is something I need to address now. Don't want progress here to get away from me.
Hope you are all having sunshine. Chevy -- hope you don't stay away too long. Love ya' too.......
-
Overcast but warmer today. Throat slightly better now that I began taking Mucinex (knocks the crud off my vocal cords) and Robitussin gelcaps to keep me from coughing uncontrollably (which kept me awake and also irritates my vocal cords). Can hum intermittently, but when I speak I still sound like a broken foghorn. Still, that's progress.
Got my car washed today, too. Sunday my car's tire pressure sensor light came on in my dash. We tried to get as close as we could to the air machine in a nearby gas station (too much snow), but the hose was too short; none of the tires looked low, and we couldn't get my digital tire gauge to work (the screen lit green, which meant w/in normal limits, but the digital readout was illegible--gotta get an old-school tire gauge). Tried to bring up the program on my car's menu to see which tire it was (my housekeeper's Chrysler has that) but I couldn't find it. Got to the Subaru dealership, and it turns out all four tires were evenly underinflated. And the 2014 Outbacks don't have the "find the flat tire" feature, though the 2018s do. While I was waiting (after I finished a free a cappuccino & tangerine), I walked around the showroom. There's a 2018 demo model (my 2014 was a demo & lease return, whose owner was suddenly transferred to Germany) on the floor: all the features mine has, plus that "name that flat" app, blind-spot monitoring, and cross-traffic alert. New, it lists for $36K, but the Buy it Now price is $33K. (Mine was the same deal, but we wore them down to $30K). I wonder what the net cost with trade-in would be. But Bob would put his foot down--he loves his Fusion Hybrid and doesn't want to inherit my Outback. And it's white, which I know from experience shows all kinds of schmutz except road salt. Anyway, when my car was ready, I found that they'd washed it! Looks really sweet now with all that road salt gone.
It's silly season again: seems like 1/3 of the commercials on TV are for prescription drugs, 1/3 for cars & trucks, and the rest political smear ads by everyone on both sides of the aisle. Robo-calls are coming fast & furious. Local (very local) candidates, mostly judicial, are ringing doorbells. They're looking for more election judges (which I've done a few times years ago, when the pay was $47). Pay is $175 now (how much is rising farmer-early, staying late to pack up the voting machines, and 13 hrs. of stultifying boredom in between worth)? Primary day can't come too soon. BTW, the TVs in the waiting room at Evanston Subaru have placards beneath them: "Until the political climate has mellowed, viewing of MSNBC, CNN and FOXNews is prohibited." (Could definitely use a rule like that in rural hotel breakfast rooms and airport bars).
-
Good for the Subaru dealer! I agree that this should spread to more venues.
GS #1 just celebrated his 28th birthday and is starting a job after looking for months and months. We celebrated at a really nice Greek restaurant. GS #2 is in the army stationed in Korea. He said it's really really cold. He wasn't able to get any tickets to Olympic events and probably couldn't find a place to stay if he did.
I tried to watch some of the Olympics, but it was 5 commercials per 18 second clip and I got bored and turned it off. I watched a video of Kim's snowboard performance. I don't think I could be the Mom who's kid did such a dangerous sport.

My L wrist is hurting like a mofo. (For those of you in less "urban" areas, the word has four syllables). It's been hurting off & on for weeks, ever since trying to open a recalcitrant pill bottle. When I was getting back into the car today after picking up a prescription this afternoon, I tilted the steering wheel down with my R hand and forgot to just anchor it with my L arm while reaching beneath the column with my R hand to bring up the locking lever. Instead, I instinctively used my L for the lever and not only did it hurt, I felt something snap. Now whenever I rotate my hand & forearm, it clicks. I didn't break anything, because it's not red and hardly swollen. But the topical Voltaren (gel & spray), Bio-Freeze and lidocaine roll-on are no match for it. Hate to take an Aleve before bedtime, because then it'll be reflux-city all night. Looks like I'll be cancelling tomorrow's mani-pedi and going to Immediate Care instead. (Doesn't merit an ER visit).
-
If everybody did just one thing. Just one thing. Not even a great thing. Not a world-changing thing, just one blessing, just one act of living kindness. The effect of each caring action, no matter how seemingly small, brings blessings into the lives of others. There may be no greater or more important thing that we can do at this instant.
Donald Altman -
Sandy, sorry for the wrist issue. I think sometimes -- golly, it was so easy when younger to bounce back and now hate to say it seems there is always some PART that just ain't quite right !!!
Rained last night and we have had some lightning ( somewhere, but didn't see it ) but did get the thunder and more rain. It was a slow rain, thank goodness. Still, though it is warmer outside for it, I'm not fond ( at least this time of yr. ) of rain and the gray colors that come with. Well, you all know that. I'm always the first to gripe about it. So, lights on in my room making me feel okay gray-wise but annoyed when I look outside. Not sure what will happen the rest of the day. It is a bit lighter outside which may have a good meaning, but just as likely to cloud up again.
Hoping you all have a good day. You too Sandy. Hope your Immedia Care has a good fix for you.
-
My DH just brought in 5(!) giant heads of cauliflower and 2 broccolis! HATE when everything ripens at the same time! Unfortunately, I am experiencing chemo-induced taste aversion to said veggies. Guess I will cut into flowerets and put into baggies for the neighbors. They are the colorful (orange, yellow, white and green) cauliflowers, so it should make a pretty package.
-
Sandy, I hope nothing is permanently damaged. It's awful to have problems when you're a musician and need that hand to function. I had a tendon make a snapping sound once and it was really loud. Fortunately no lasting damage was done.
-
Well, the swelling's down a bit and it's not snapping. Didn't go to Immediate Care--gonna keep up the regimen of Voltaren gel (gotta buy more in Rome this coming April), Zim's Max-Freez roll-on (menthol + arnica), and 4% lidocaine roll-on. Studies have shown that menthol + 4% lidocaine (both OTC) are as effective as prescription (and pricy) 5% lidocaine patches. Seems the menthol helps absorption of the lidocaine, so it stands to reason it should help with the Voltaren too. (Why topical Voltaren is OTC everywhere in the E.U. but not on this side of the pond is beyond me. In Europe, it's right out there on the shelves along with the IcyHot. And in Italy, France & Spain I've been able to buy Ventolin inhalers and brand-name Celebrex OTC, and cheaply at that. No such luck with Femara, but I have a low co-pay for letrozole anyway).
Still sound like the illicit love child of Marlene Dietrich and a foghorn. Going out for Valentine's Day dinner in the 'hood in a little while. It's mild out, but foggy-drizzly. And snow-melt water is ponding like crazy on the deck, as fast as we can try to sweep it on to the lawn. Hope it's gone before freezing temps hit again. Gonna be a lotta flooding around these parts (though small potatoes compared to Houston, FL and PR).

Positive thinking is not the destination; it is the journey. An optimistic person will be constantly challenged – by external circumstances as well as inner fears and doubts. Always remember that these tests are like a ladder you must climb. As you move past each rung, your optimism strengthens and your confidence begins to flex newly found muscle that you might never have developed otherwise.

Low 80's here today. Too hot and too humid for February. The tulip magnolia tree is in full bloom. It's really pretty. DH put a picture on Facebook.
I had my every-five-weeks hair appointment today at 11 am. A trim and color on the roots. Then this afternoon dh and I went to see the Churchill movie, Darkest Hour. It was well done but intense, as you can imagine. Great performance by the actor who played Churchill. Wren, I recommend the movie.
The movie was at 1:55 pm. There were two other older couples in the theatre! You can tell who the audience is for that type of movie.
Tonight we're going out to dinner with another couple. It's a restaurant that they heard about and tonight is a steak special.
Happy Thursday to all.

The best way I have found to follow my true desires is to pay attention to my intuitive sense. We all have great wisdom within us, a part of us that knows exactly what we need at every moment. We are born with this intuitive sense, but most of us are quickly taught to distrust and ignore it. We have to relearn something that should come naturally. Fortunately, it's not too difficult; it just takes some practice.
