Update - my RO called today to see if I spoke with MO re: chemo. I told her I'm not totally on board with chemo. I want further testing, MammaPrint specifically. Since my MO is on vaca, and I'll have completed 2/3 of my rads by time she's back...I'm opting to go ahead with the Accelerated radiation. Start date 12/26.

I know its reverse of what's normal. But prior to knowing my Oncotype score, the MO said: the worse case scenario, we do your chemo after rads. And with a score of 19, I'm still sitting on the fence if I'll do chemo at all.

I've got my supplies ready: 100% aloe, Aquaphor, Dove unsented soap, and Crystal roll on deodorant. I'll go back thru posts to see what else you ladies recommend.

Costs - my insurance covers rads, and most everything else, but I have a $20 copay for each rad treatment. Onco place bills you weekly, so $100 a week.

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays to you all. Hugs too!

Cindy, so good to hear from you. I recommend adding calendula cream, any brand, which you can get from Amazon or in most drug stores that carry "natural" products. Miaderm, which has calendula and aloe, is something I've used as well. I did the accelerated course and am only now (five days from my final treatment) getting a tiny bit of an itchy rash. I'm using a cortizone cream for that.

Rljes - thank you girl, I'm doing okay and this is a great group.

PVM - I'm hanging in here, I met with my RO today, he thinks my skin is doing fine, hope he is right about that !

Amy - I ditched my bra long time ago also.

11/30 today and lotion myself as much as I can, 🙏🙏 for my skin to hold up well.

I FINISHED TODAY!!!! I had a double treatment yesterday (that was exhausting) so I could finish up today. After today's treatment, the technicians presented me with a diploma haha and we all gave hugs. I got in my car and just started crying. I can't believe it's finally over. I also can't believe how I'm such an emotional mess right now. Crying with happiness of course. All the stress over the last few months and not knowing what's going to happen. I got this. I kicked cancer's butt and I got this now .... we all got this!!!!! We are all warriors. I pray for each and every one of you and I thank you all for sharing your stories, sharing your emotions and encouraging one another.

I'll be visiting my MO the first week of January to find out which medication they'll be recommending for me. But I'm not going to stress about it. I'll see what happens and deal with it when/if I have to. I also signed up at the hospital's survivorship center for a 6-month long "Nutrition for Weight loss" program they are offering to cancer survivors. I'm actually really excited about that. I already told my husband he better be prepared to eat healthy!!! I feel like this has been a wake up call and I need to take better care of myself. I think I need to go and buy a superwoman shirt today I'm feeling so powerful right now haha!!!!

Thanks for listening ladies. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and holiday with no SEs or worries. Hugs to all :)

Ellyn that is awesome!! I have been thinking of you and so happy for you! I am on the same schedule roughly but met with my MO last week and know I start tamoxifen Jan 1.

I forget who found the T-shirt but I love the expression "Cancer touched my breast so I kicked its ass!" Like you I feel very powerful today. :)

Ellyn - Congratulations on finishing. My technicians all came in the room on my last dose and threw a bunch of confetti in the air. So sweet that they seem to understand how hard this is to do.

Georgia1, that tshirt idea was mine haha!! They told me I won't get Tamoxifin because I'm post menopausal, so we'll see what they recommend.

A HUGE congrats to all who finished treatment this week, you are my warriors and guiding light.

I spoke with my RO and he said my 'other symptoms' are not rads related. I'm also finding that I'm soaking the sheets in the night this week. Weird.

I'm looking forward to this 3 day break. Next week is 4 boosters for me and then I'm joining the DONE group. Skin is slightly red. Swelling where lymph node removed really giant compared to last week. I was told that besides annual mammograms, I didn't have a follow up visit for completion of rads unless I had severe skin issues.

I met with an oncologist today as I'm slightly PR+ and HER2+ and he doesn't recommend any further treatment. Says taking chemo pills will only add 2% to my success rate of 95% so I'm choosing not to go this route.

I'm still very emotional when thanking someone for support or talking about having BC and or thinking about future events. I just try to breathe and allow it to pass.

    Happy Holidays everyone.

Hi CindyNY, my Oncotype was 22, my Oncologist said that chemo would only give me a 4% benefit and said it wasn’t worth the SE‘s both short and long term. I’m on Tamoxifen now and she wants me on them for 10 years. I’d have been even happier with a score of 19!

Just finished my final 20th microwaving today, went with my kids and husband, got a huge celebration hug from my 10 years old when I came out 😊 love him! I too felt a little emotional, I cried to my mum when I got home...feeling a little vulnerable and ‘on my own’ (medically) apparently this is a normal feeling??

Got my first blister today too, let’s hope it’s only one and it stays small!

Huge well done to all you brave wonder women who have finished, and huge big supportive wishes to those who have a few more to go. All the best for the festive period and here’s to a healthier 2018, 2017 can clear off!!

    Xxx

Ellyn congrats that is amazing, i am sure i will cry up a storm when im done as well. You are so right we are all warriors & i pray for good health for all of us.

Jellybean - thank you so much for the motivation & i could not agree with you anymore, we are definitely strong. Im glad you finished & had your loved ones around to celebrate.

Redhead - hope you get to relax this weekend & your SE are not that bad. You are almost at the finish line yay!

Paulette & Amy - i counted the zaps today & i believe it was around 18, i may be getting more zaps as i am also getting under my arm. I hope both of you ladies are doing okay & your skin is holding out & the SE are minimal. Paulette i hope your LE does not get worse, i don't have LE & to be honest so do not wish to end up getting it but one never knows but i am trying to do as much as i can to not get it.

Happy holiday ladies & not sure about you ladies that are still doing rads but i shall be getting a 4 day break here in Canada which i think will be good for my skin. Happy long weekend of non zapping ladies & wishing you all happy holidays filled with wonderful blessings & for those that have finished wishing you a wonderful start to the new year. Like one of my very good warrior friends said its like being reborn :)

Ellyn that's so funny! I actually went to the CafePress website, where you can design your own mugs and stuff, and ordered two aprons with "Cancer touched my breasts so I kicked its ass" on them for some friends/warriors/mentors. So you are responsible for some amazing Christmas presents! I loved that you can choose your own color and font there. Also - fyi - I am post-menopausal too but chose Tamoxiden over an AI because I have osteoporosis. My MO said I can always switch in a year or two but Tamoxifen actually helps build bones while the AIs do the opposite.

Jellybean, it is funny that I feel a little medically lonesome too. So weird! I don't see my surgeon or MO until March and my RO appointment isn't until September because she wants me to be seen by someone every six months. So unless I have terrible side effects from Tamoxifen (knock wood) I am free of medical appointments for quite awhile. What will we do with all of our spare time? Ha!

Happy Friday, happy weekend-free RADS, and happy holidays to one and all.

    congrats Ellyn! Woo hoo

    Treatment 9 today

I am not sure how to count the zaps? I just hear a continuous sound that lasts like 20 seconds on each side.

No real visible side effects , but I don't feel good at all, just feel really strange and out of it. Does that make any sense? I am going to tell the Dr when I see her on Tues. I have 2 short weeks coming up with the holidays which stretches this out a bit longer .

cindyny, I posted on the other board but I am happy things are falling into place for you

my machine moves and then makes a buzzing noise for about 10-15 secs and then moves again. Counting just helps me stay calm and know when I'm almost done. I am getting my under arm zapped as well sbd it's pretty red under there. Brought my techs some gifts today, they are so nice

Ellyn27 and Jellybean68 yeahhhhhhh and CONGRATS on finishing your zaps! That's awesome. I'm so happy for you but mostly proud of your strength. You ladies TOTALLY ROCK!

I'll be done zapping on Wed.

I'm sooooo not superstitious, but everyday I go to the same dressing room, use the same key locker with the pink band and sit in the same chair. Well yesterday the pink locker was taken, and I had to use the green key. And I had to sit in a different seat..well guess what, the machine was down! I'm like noooo way! So my 1130 ended up being 1230.. I got so nervous because it was my first boost and I didn't want to mess up my schedule. They put a piece of cord on my incision so that they'd see where the surgery cavity was before they zapped, interesting...

All ended well, I GOT in, all zapped and out. But I told the nurse tech...im never doing the green key again... it threw my mojo off. Lol

But, I did get a good RO report, skin doing very well, but he said continue to lotion for 2wks because the rads will be coming out of my skin and may show some flakiness or hot spots. Praying my skin stays intact..

To each of you, you truly are the strongest, and brave people I know. In the face of this, you continue to press on. We're human so our emotions will get the best of us...but in spite of We Win! I thank God for all of the info, support and shoulders that you bring to this site. I really appreciate you all so much.

Yeah for a zap free weekend.. and I wish each of you a very Merry and Blessed Christmas... and most of all a VERY HEALTHY and HEALING New Year!

So happy to have three days off from zapping, done my 12/30 almost half way there. Breast swollen so does my arm, tonight I need to work hard on my manual massage hope that help to drain the fluid.

Lifechoices, you are almost done, congratulations! Oh yea, we are control by our emotions, I have my ups and downs during this whole journey.

Wish all of you Merry Christmas!!!

I started radiation on the 18th. Scheduled for 16 whole breast and 4 boost sessions. I've literally had four sessions and it already hurts. It hurts to move my arm and the pain kind of rolls along the shoulder and to the triceps. I'm not sure if this is from the radiation or the position of my arms while it's being administered. The nurses/therapists said it might be from swelling and my husband did say it looked swollen, but I can't tell. Does anyone else have this? Glad to have an extra day of rest this week.

Dubs22 I'm sorry that you are getting swelling & pain I am into 7 sessions & am feeling a bit tender but no pain. I was warned that rads shrink/damage cells as well another possible side effect is LE so they told me to do stretches to get my arm moving & for it not to be stiff. Maybe you should see PMT to see if they can help with the pain. I hope the weekend allows you to get some relief & you feel better by the time rad 5 comes.

Thanks for the response! I am seeing a PT once a week. She's given me some exercises, so I'm trying to do those daily, but sometimes it's hard to fit them in. Maybe I need to spread them out through the day so they provide more relief? I see her Wednesday so I will ask then.

Dubs - I just do my stretching whenever I can so my muscles won’t be sored. I had 12 sessions my breast swollen a little and I put lotions 3-4 times a day.

Georgia1 - I think your friends are going to love those mugs!!!

Lifechoices - I know what you mean about using the same lockers, etc. I always used locker #5 and dressing room #1 and I'd almost be mad when they weren't available!!!! Funny how we get that way.

I agree with what someone above said about us getting "microwaved". I even mentioned it to my techs and they agreed. Microwaves cook food from the inside out, so our insides probably are getting hit first and that's why the delay in redness. Just remember it's hitting not just the bad cells, but the good cells too. So it's VERY important to eat protein rich foods to build up those good cells so they can go into battle. Eat healthy overall. This is the hardest thing right now with the holidays coming up. Thanks so much ladies for all the nice comments. Finishing up my RADs was so emotional for me and I cried for quite a while. I told my friend I need to get a superwoman shirt or one that said "I'm a badass". Not sure I'd wear them in public - maybe to bed haha!!!

    Have a good weekend everyone.

Paulette, I'm sorry you're feeling tired today and hope the break will restore your strength and appetite.

Lifechoices, Hooray for hitting the home stretch! The holidays messed up me getting started on RADS, but I'm sure it is just as frustrating to be delayed in the middle or end of treatment like many out there. Stay strong and have a blessed Christmas.

Ellyn, thanks for the nutritional reminders. I have read it and read it but need to keep hearing the same message so I can stay on track and help my body heal to the best of its ability. Keep it up, ladies!

Dubbs, I'll be praying that the break decreases your SE's substantially and you are ready to go again next week! Maybe it will be easier to do your stretches throughout the day once Christmas is over and things calm down a bit! Last night the only stretches I did were reaching for the wrapping paper and tape!!

Here's looking forward to Santa being especially nice to us warriors, ha.

Ellyn27 - I would totally wear the 'I'm a BADASS' shirt in public. It is so true so why not? Wear it with PRIDE!!!!

Jellybean68 - yes, microwaving, you have this right. I'd like some popcorn with mine.

gigibee - since my treatment started I've been funny in the head too; forgetful, words not coming to me, etc. This too will pass.

OCDAmy - my machine does the same thing, buzzes then moves to the other side and buzzes again.

PauletteK - the swelling under my arm increase drastically during the 3rd week of treatment, sounds like you are experiencing the same thing though a little earlier. I lost my appetite in the 2nd week and now it is back so hopefully this is short term for you. Don't give up!

Dubs22 - so sorry you are feeling the 'effects' already. I also had this type of pain in my first week. I had injured this same shoulder in the past so I was thinking that the shrinkage was affecting this. Have you had an injury in this shoulder before? I felt my range of motion was very good during my first 2 weeks but the 3rd week brought an end to this. I now also have pain down the inside of my arm to my wrist. Today is better than yesterday so I'm so thankful for this extra break right now. I'm not sure I could continue with my boosts next week with the amount of pain I was in and knowing it was only going to get worse. I hope you get relief soon. I also have a lot of massage/stretches to do and I do these whenever I am sitting down or laying in bed.

Hi everyone. I've completed 28/30, so only two more scar boosts to go. I've had notable fatigue since the second week. My skin is very itchy now. I use Miaderm with lidocaine. I used Aquaphor once but I didn't help and in fact made me more uncomfortable so I probably won't use it again. Rads has been tougher than I hoped.. but surgery and chemo were easier than I feared, so you never know. Hormone therapy has been its own journey too. But I'm really looking forward to turning the page on this year.

Emmy - I’m using Miaderm alsoand my RO wants me only use Miaderm and forget Aquaphor. I’m surprised you found chemo was easier since you had AC+T that isn’t an easy journey for me. In fact I’m still suffering from neuropathy, could be you are much younger than me so your body is much stronger.

Redhead - I think because they are rads on my lymph nodes so I lost some appetite but it is still better than my chemo time. I even able to gained couple lbs back. I’m sorry to hear that you got that much pains, how many more session do you have to go?

Down - I’m so happy for the three days break, I slept well now I got my energy back, and my skin is getting better also.

    Here is my baby ......

    Merry Christmas Eve everyone!

Omg...thats a cutie baby! That face alone is enough to brighten your day.

Emmy; I've only used miaderm and aquaphor and they did great on my skin. But in seeing the posts, I think it depends on the person.

Dubs22, I didn't have pain but laying in the prone position I felt my right arm/shoulder was sore the first week or so. I guess just having to stretch and hold in that position.

The buzzes...lol... I've been trying to count my boost buzz because they are diff than my whole breast. I still feel the machine rotate over my back, but I can tell that it stops in a diff position because of the area targeted.

I have 2last sessions Tues/Wed and on to Tamoxifen...let the games begin!

I'm not sure how I'll feel not having to be on a rads schedule after having done this for weeks. I will try to get more exercise in because my YMCA schedule has become nonexistent...oh, did I mention I was also working there PT... not sure when I'll go back to that...i think I just need a mind and body break.

My nephew surprised me today with my car window decal; I love it!

For those of you still in rads, stay strong and encouraged. And on those days when emotions are high; we're here! We share, we cry, and we uplift! The end of zaps is near and YOU GOT THIS!

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas!
