Sue...Jump in the water is just fine. The more the merrier and the more squares the more afghans and so on!

I am going to stop trying somplicated crochet patterns and do something with different yarns that I have a ton of.

Keep on hooking! Well, you get the idea!

WATCH OUT LADIES....................DENISE HAS PURCHASED A KNIFTY KNITTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I even dared to purchase a couple Thingys of yarn. Now, I will tell you that I had my doubts when the Saleslady (don't know her, but she is a 10 year survivor!) told me that she bought one for her 10 year old grandchild and she caught on and loves it!! The pressure is on!

I've got two done and I'm halfway through my third square. I lost power last night because of the ice storm, so I was crocheting by flashlight. I should probably check the squares to make sure they look ok....

    Hugs to all,

Just finished block #6. When I was crocheting it was only 7 inches wide....well, after i let it sit a bit I swear it GREW! It is about 7.5 inches wide...I hope you can still use it. If not it can be a pretty hot pad!

    Deb,

That happened to the square I was making last night too! I'll send it along to Vickie, and she can have a set of hot pads to remind her of her BC sisters!

The squares will be ok if they are off a bit...I can ease them in and it will be fine.
Still looking for my knifty knitter to help Vera know how many pegs to use...if anyone knows...please help! Buying a new knitter today as it's faster that way. I'll probably buy it and get home and find mine in plain site LOL.

Ha...bought another straight knifty knitter board...still can't find my old one and it's driving me nuts! Me and Nathaniel have been on a major cleaning spree so everything is organized, clean and taken care of (even the closets!!!). Guess we should have left things alone...we'll never find anything now!!
Off to make some rectangles...hope everyone is having fun.

    Vickie,

I think I am going nuts!! I thought I had just posted a question and then "poof" it disappeared. I guess the cyber-space creature has eaten another post.

So I guess, if you can bear with me, I will repeat my question:

I have been doing the 7 x 9 crochet pieces and I see some are doing the knifty knitter board....so what is easier for you - the crochet pieces or the knifty knitter pieces?

Let me know because I can purchase the knifty knitter.

    Thanks, Madison

Hi Madison...I lost my straight knifty knitter so went out and got a new one. You can also use the round ones. I don't really know which is easier. For me the knifty knitter is as it's easier on my hands and arm. I found that you need to wind ten pegs to get the 7 inches and then "knit" down to the 9. Need to pm Vera and let her know this.

I'm spending my weekend making squares...how is everyone doing? I have five done now. I will post my address tomorrow.

Oh...one more thing ladies. I pm'd dressmaker and Lilia to tell them what we were doing here and to let them know that we are in no way trying to take away from the wonderful thing that they are doing. I received a very sweet note back that they are happy with what we are doing and honored to be included in our efforts.
Hooray for the two of them. They work so very hard and do such wonderful things for those in need.
    Hugs all around.

Thank you Vickie for contacting dressmaker and Lilia. I am so pleased that they realize we know how hard they work and we are NOT trying to take away from their efforts. I really was worried. I don't like hurting anyone's feelings.

well I taught myself to crochet when the power was out. My rectangle kept growing. so at the end I just pulled and pushed till it was 7x9. It looks kinda like the ones in the pictures. I hope I'm doing ok. I didn't use any pattern, just single crochet on all the rows.

Maybe I should try a machine!! this is fun.

Hi Vickie ... not sure if I mentioned this elsewhere but I posted a flyer where I work and at the local craft store. I have had a LOT of people contact me who will be doing squares for our afghans. I have a few made but I'm slow due to joint pain.... will let you know when I have enough to send on to you. Thanks for coordinating this for us!

Don't forget the Christmas card people already have it. Does that mean you don't need a check for yarn to put these together? You're still going to need postage money, girlfriend.

A knifty knitter question: if I'm using a round knitter and only going partway around and then going back the other way, how do I turn around? Like, how do I wrap the last peg? Also, I'm finding the finished piece pulls in to a much narrower size. Am I doing something wrong or do I just need to use more pegs and expect the pull-in? And the texture isn't quite like knitting -- there's an extra twist to it. And there's a right side and wrong side, yes? And finally, since my aim here is to teach this to my two disabled young-adult kids, is it possible to wrap and loop over the pegs one at a time rather than wrapping the whole row first? As far as I can see it's sort of like giant spool knitting...

Does any of this even make sense!?

    Thanks,
    Binney

Hi Binney! Nice to see you here.
I use the round knifty knitters to make hats and I use the rectangular one to make squares and scarves so I don't know if I'll be much help but I'll try.
On the round ones the squares won't come out flat...don't know why but I can't make it happen! When you get to the last peg, turn it around and wrap the last peg again and go back to the beginning. It is like a giant knitting spool and the concept is the same. I'm sure someone will come along with easier directions!
I'll see if I can find a link to the rectangular one. They are sold at Michaels and ACMoore (along with WalMart).

One more thing ladies...Michaels is having a super yarn sale right now until the 27th...all the fun fur, fancy fur...etc...the really expensive yarns are $1.00 a skein!!!! HUGE savings!

Vickie, I saw so much on sale the other day when I went for stuff fo mom. I went a head and bought some funky yarn to make a new scarf for my dil. I must have made 5 or 6 by now for her. She looks so great with them and she is so sweet I can't resist doing for her.

Also found a Dollar Store that always has a good supply of Lion Brand yarns at, yup, a dollar! So hard to resist and they always have directions for something on the band.
